How FOX are making shock servicing more accessible

- We spent a whole day with the technicians from Fox learning best practices in servicing their rear shocks like the DPX, X2 and DH2 etc. We talk tools, nitrogen charging, Andreani Fill Machines and how to really inspect the internals.
Jake and I discuss what we learnt from our time with the Fox technicians, while showing you some great close ups of the service work

Jake wearing a Rock Shox hat in this video is -chef’s kiss-.
I know 😂
If ypu get an SP4 or 5 they have glass tubes in the sides so you can see the oil levels in the tanks, on Andreani pumps. Worth every cent if your doing enough shocks and forks. If you get one and offer a quick turnaround customers will come. Best big ticket tools I ever bought.
very interesting
Thank you.
I do all my suspension service, even on my motorcycle, tbh I love it and I understand it could be a pain for some people but it's really not that hard if you invest in proper tools ...
I've always preferred RockShox for the very reason you can service at home with almost no specialist tools or equipment. If things don't feel good then it's 45 minutes for a total rebuild and a factory fresh feel.
The best tip I got was to apply vacuum to degass the new shock fluid BEFORE it goes in the shock (even with a simple automotive brake bleed hand pump, but it only lasts about 30mins) then follow your bleed procedure
One thing I've added to all service is vacuum filling everything possible, including the shaft area on inline style shocks. Purging any air trapped within the shaft and adjustment rods helps to extend service intervals. Hand bleeding kills your joints doing it everyday. A pressurized filling machine greatly reduces the time to bleed fork dampers. It used to take 2-3 rounds by hand, now it's 5-10 minutes tops, and rock solid.
Let me know if you'd like more information on the specifics.
Yeah. Keen to know more.
loving this channel, honest, no nonsense, great content! :)
what turned out to be wrong with the DPS? (apologies if i missed it in the video!)
It was in the vid. Our regulator was under reading by about 50psi.
That tools to undo the can is called a hook spanner. You can use them as chain whips as well
Just learnt it is the Park HCW5. Hook spanner on one end, 3 prong the other. We only ever had the double hook spanner HCW17
@@Mapdec you could get the hozan locking pliers for better engagement only the the two prongs at the end engage the notches
@@Mapdec I'm pretty sure I bought my HCW5 28 years ago for old school bottom brackets with lock rings. That's the second "old" tool you've shown on your channel that's been repurposed by a manufacturer to service their new products. I'm thinking about that bottom bracket tool you showed to install the Raceface lockring on their chainring and crank. Another 28 year old tool in the tool box. Very cool these companies are using existing tools that everyone might already have.
Pretty curious, unless their products become considerably easier/cheaper to service and the x2’s issues are finally solved I don’t see any reason not to for RS or if you want all out performance EXT or Ohlins.
The cost of Rockshox service kits and replacement parts is generally higher than Fox, if even available. Rockshox kits don't include all internal seals for many models. Their CSUs and lowers are overpriced as well.
Keep the ear defenders on, you've only got one set of ears! Record the pop (and hiss) on your phone and play it back to look for the hiss.
Anso-Suspension sells the vacuum bleeder for much less than an Andreani machine
Hang about, I'm sure I saw this video before 😄
we had to edit a little bit.
is this a re upload?
A bit. We had to edit a little bit. Sorry
Btw, my previous comments seem to keep getting deleted.
