Not to mention, you pay a whopping $300 just for the 𝙥𝙧𝙞𝙫𝙞𝙡𝙖𝙜𝙚 to access the absolute waste of time that is the Nintendo switch e shop, then another $60-$120 for some games. Idk…switch just feels overhyped. It’s ok as a console handheld hybrid, but once you start to compare it to the 3ds, everything falls apart.

@@SanicConnoisseur_91 That's more of the console experience, the games are absolutely incredible, although the recent trend we've been seeing as more and more games are being released with lacking content that's added later through free updates. As a console it is complete, and it gets the job done. However, as a "Nintendo Console" it lacks all of the little intricacies that made nintendo nintendo, tons of apps to showcase the systems features, just doodling over pictures, and shopping. They made shopping one of the most exciting experiences ever with the way everything was presented. I think most of this is due to Iwata's passing and his influence on the finished product isn't here anymore, the things he pushed for when he was here aren't much of a priority anymore It seems. :(
I do hope things start changing for the better with Nintendo, even if it seems impossible.

The 3DS era really felt like the last time Nintendo felt like "Nintendo", where they were creative with their advertisements, absolutely cared for their older fans by expanding their virtual console on it while limiting some sections if you didnt have the new 3ds, and overall gave the 3ds so much personality and life with how many tools and apps they gave it compared to something like the DSi. Same man. I miss when (most) video game companies weren't so soulless and money driven. Back when consoles and games were designed with love and care, not just aiming to fulfill the basic status quo. Back when companies didn't use predatory monetization tactics like microtransactions to suck every last penny out of players. The rest of my points still stand.
Oh and if you're wondering, I did get my 3DS fixed. Happy days.
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The 3DS will ALWAYS be better than the Switch imo. Actual portability, no paid DLC, no paid online services, tons of little apps that you'd spend way too much time on even though you had actual games to play, and details like this. They didn't have to put catchy music on the Internet settings screen, just like how they didn't have to make a cute little animation for the eShop downloads, or make it so when you blow on the mic the top icon for the game that you had in your 3DS would spin around, but they did it anyways.
My New 3DS doesn't turn on anymore. I'm planning on getting it repaired soon, fingers crossed they succeed. It just kills me to think that all of those memories would be lost forever.

Even the GameBoy could be plugged into the TV for 4 player Co Op in some games, something that didn't work when not plugged in.
Fun fact the DS had free online voice chat in Pokemon Diamond and Pearl when you were playing with friends. Hard to believe it's already been over a decade since the 3DS came to be. I've been through several consoles since the original and I still have the Game Boy Advance games that were part of that ambassador program they did back then. The days when me and strangers I didn't even know too well would send each other doodles on the daily through Swapnote, we'd have a few rounds of Mario Kart, then 2014 rolled around and we'd have Smash Bros nights thrown in. Every screenshot, every recording, every blurry picture of people...man, those were the days.
Also it is my firm personal belief that when Iwata passed, a lot of Nintendo's charm passed with him. In a lot of ways we don't get stuff like this anymore, or if we do it just doesn't have the same appeal.

The Switch is great don’t get me wrong but something’s missing. Something’s different about Nintendo. They’re no longer the company I fell in love with over the past 3 console generations. They used to be bolder, more different, less corporate. From the GameCube to the Wii U their consoles regardless of how good or bad they were had an unmistakable identity. Little things like this were proof of it.

Yeah they care about money now just like other companies even though they could be putting out music for the switch, reviving the 3ds, and stuff but Ohhh NO they have to screw it all up. It's like 1 in the morning rn and I'm getting mad at Nintendo hoping they revive the 3ds because I've played it more times than my switch. Like on Mario maker it says I've played it almost 100 times

I remember this music, around 2014 me and my family went to a swamp meet and there was a stand with a bunch of electronics, and I saw the Nintendo 3ds, It was a red, black, and white one, I told my parents about and they bought it for me and boy did I use it until it would leave white marks on the A button due to all the times I pressed on it hard, it would fall a bunch of times but it still survived, me and my sisters would take pictures on it and I still have them…😔😔 man I miss those days when I was young I would play on it everyday and night. I would even hide it under my pillow when it was time to sleep, but sadly it stop working ☹️ it would still turn on but once I tried playing games on it the screen would freeze I was so sad 😭 but all goods come to an end. Man. Ever since Iwata passed, Nintendo just hasn't been the same. Everything about the 3DS and the Wii U (to some extent), had this larger than life performance to give to players right off the bat. It had more personality over the formal appearance of the Playstation and Xbox and their way of introducing the consumer to the console, up until the Switch came out and now it's just black and white and has little to no sound other than when you interact with an option.
People like to argue that most of these were just optional by Nintendo, but to me it gave the console a soul. I remember having so much fun messing around with the games and checking out the cool features the 3DS had in store, especially with themes, the many options to choose at the toolbar like sketching and stuff.
I'd lose myself for hours just trying to make the coolest art pieces with the very limited colors to choose from, but even with things like Streetpass, Faceraiders, and the AR game they tried to advertise, I'd always spend time getting sucked into these features on the 3DS, just having fun over everything else.
It felt rewarding walking around just to meet someone who also had a 3DS and giving each other Friend Codes and stuff like that. I'd always go on walks to make sure I'd get the game tokens to hire just one more mercenary in Find Mii and somehow always failing.
I got in a fight and accidentally broke the screen and it legit brought me to tears. I couldn't forgive myself for what I did, and afterwards I still really do, as I had so many things to remember about this console over any others out there.
Not even the Wii could top how much this console meant to me and the countless hours I'd spend playing Animal Crossing and Tomodachi Life. Now that I heard that the ability to purchase games digitally will finally have a deadline, it makes me sad and realize all the games I missed out on.
I continue to remember this, as it was practically conjoined to me once I heard the new of Iwata's death. He played such a big role in developing some of my favorite games on the console and knew how to really make an interesting show with the direct's and E3 showcases.
He passed on my birthday, and knowing this, I couldn't help but make this as a reflection of the legacy of Iwata and what Nintendo has become.
I will miss you Iwata, and if there's one thing I'll miss about you, it would be your willingness to do the most outstanding of work with the company, especially with your refusal to lay off employees.
You will be missed, and I will continue to smile for you as you did for so many others. Rest in peace.

The Switch feels like a soulless, bland, boring computer terminal. I really, really hope that the Switch 2 or whatever the next console is adapts the style guide of the 3DS and Wii U and isn't as boring as the Switch menu. I hope one day they will bring more games from the DS family to switch like a second Tomodachi life for example. 3DS had so much life in it, such as custom themes changing the music, the little spinning game icons, internet access like UA-cam and a web browser, and they just gave the console so much life unlike the switch. I want to have a small gathering of people here, I want us all to go on a journey of 2ds' and 3ds' so we can all sit back and watch the memories, here's my fair share of information everyone's putting down.
So, I have 2DS I got back when they first released, that thing was never internally damaged, but my lord, the back of it is absolutely destroyed. Works fine, the little joystick pad is gone but it still works, my little thing might be injured but she still works to this day and I will never get tired of it.
I still go on it to this day, and enjoy my daily bits of Pokémon rumble world, smash bros, and Pokémon ultra moon (Don't forget the Mii Plaza games!) It's absolutely the best device Nintendo has made in terms of visibility (not sight or what you see, I'm talkin about the design in general) and love, if you take a minute to go on your old 3ds/2ds and look at the system in generality, it marked a piece in you're childhood, as it did with me, there was so much affection and fun with the 3ds/2ds, I remember purposely messing up my touch screen just to play the fun game with hitting the target, talking to the little robot thinking it would talk to me, watching the update and download bars on the main menu and EShop because it was so flashy, cool, and fun to watch as it slowly progressed to the end of the line, there will never, never EVER be a game system like the 2ds and 3ds that has made my childhood this much fun and nostalgic to look back at.
You'd generally spend more time on the apps then actual games, the thing itself was lovable, it was made in a time where Nintendo wasn't money grabbing and ripping essentials, locking them behind paid services as they do now - making the 3/2ds' much more compatible in usage, and if anyone still sticks with them it's understandable why, you wouldn't be the only one out there.
Nintendo won't return to this style, it's a fact, but you can still enjoy the one you have, thanks, thanks for coming to my ted talk.
