      What a great question! Truth is it’s different for everyone. I personally feel my wrists working together as one. My lead wrist will generally orient the club-face on its approach to impact, and my trail wrist of course will provide the speed as the lead wrist stabilizes.
      I would dial into your own proprioception by closing your eyes and making some swings without a ball. Pay attention to what it feels like to you!!

    Andrew: 71 years old, 6 handicap, lifetime golfer. Been using your methodology for last 2 weeks. Iron play much improved. Fairway woods improving. Still coming over top too much on driver. Any drills or swing thoughts to drop arms and extend thru ball for driver?

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  4 місяці тому +2

      Very rarely do I see enough golfers align far enough right with the driver. You have to take into consideration whats called dynamic plane. IF you want to hit a draw you need to be 5° inside out. That’s a lot easier with an iron and a hybrid.
      To be 5° inside out you’re gonna need to align 5° to the right to shift your swing direction. Bear in mind for every 1° you swing up on a golf ball the club exits 1° to the left. The opposite applies for an descending AOA.
      In addition aligning further right will slow down your spin phase and give your arms more time to work under the plane and of course out to the right!

    Like how you explain tension. Only thing missing in your explanation is where the tension actually comes from. Tension comes from failure. Theres weeks i play well no tension at all & weeks i can't hit the ball at all. This is where the tension starts. If i relax without hitting the ball correctly tension is going the reoccur. Keep up great videos, thanks.

    Great lesson Andrew. Any tips on keeping the left arm from collapsing? Having trouble keeping the left arm straight and making a full turn in the backswing. Thank you.

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  5 місяців тому

      Larry - Golfers are obsessed with keeping the lead arm extended in the backswing which very often creates excessive tension in my experience. The trick is understanding that even if the arms get pinched at the top, IF you delay the bodies spin phase you can unpack them vertically and in fact create more arm speed!
      Having said that most golfers get narrow because they haven’t hinged and folded their trail arm earlier enough in the backswing!
      You’re likely collapsing because you have to - to create any arm speed! I’ve attached a video that talks about the role of the trail arm. I hope it helps!

    Andrew: I love your stuff!! Now, I'm 73 years old and play to a 6-8 hdcp from the Blues (6800 yds) and I was really concerned that my distance and speed would soon decline. Frankly, it did!! So, after watching your videos I went and tryed your speed techniques and it really worked for every iron in my bag except the 5 iron. The real problem comes with the driver, fairway woods and hybrids---these clubs are longer and I just can't seem to "take the elevator" without being too steep. I believe in your thoughts with every iron but I need either a visual or a thought to create the longer distances for the woods. My irons, I have increased the distance by 15-20 yards but the woods and longer irons (5,4,3) just don't want to cooperate---and thoughts?????

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  5 місяців тому

      At 73 you’re handicapping yourself by not having a 5/4/3 hybrid in my opinion! I don’t use a 3 iron and I have crossovers for my 5/4 iron……It’s like cheating. The misses are better, the trajectory is higher and you can stop them on a dime. They’re easy to hit from both the fairway and the rough also.
      Having said that it’s likely that your swing is a little steep and to be honest. Without seeing your swing I’m throwing darts blindfolded! Happy to help if you would like to invest in your golf game! Coach A. 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🙏🏻⬇️

      You need to give your speed a home so absolutely you should allow the club to re-hinge with the Driver. As you get wider and start adding more speed it’s critical that you create depth and avoid spinning as you change direction. That’s where virtually everyone goes wrong with the Driver!! Still struggle with being too steep and OTT at times. Any suggestions on how to do what you are teaching based on that issue?

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi Jeff, it’s quite likely that you lack external trail shoulder mobility. Unless you’ve been tested you wouldn’t know. In any case Fred Couples and a number of great players have flying trail elbows. The key is repositioning the trail shoulder/arm on the approach to impact!
      I like my students to feel like their trail palm is pointing more towards the sky at the top of the backswing. IF this is a swing issue and not a mobility issue then this will definitely help relocate the trail elbow at the top!
      If you lack mobility I would suggest perhaps looking up sleeper stretch, and wall angels. These are good exercises that would help. Like all exercises if you feel any pain do NOT proceed with these exercises.

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  5 місяців тому

      Raymond! You’re talking about ‘Ground Reaction Forces (GRF)’ which is helpful for sure. Force production is all about moving into and out of the ground in order to sling the club head faster!
      My advice - Do NOT work on this unless you are seeing a qualified golf coach! It’ll likely do more harm than good. Focus on educating your arms and wrists first and then marry that leverage system to your body dynamics so you have a sequenced golf swing.
      Ground mechanics are of course important but putting the cart before the horse is the easiest way for your golf to go sideways! Best, Coach A. 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🙏🏻

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  3 місяці тому

      You have a huge advantage!! A great drill is to hit golf balls left handed off a tee. Make smaller swings first and build up! Allowing the club to hinge and unhinge through the ball. Most golfers don’t have ANY left hand control. It’s harder than you think, even if you’re a lefty but it will help your swing a great deal!

    So it's ok to bend the left arm on the backswing.

    • @AndrewEmeryGolf
      @AndrewEmeryGolf  5 місяців тому

      Extending the lead arm in the backswing has destroyed a lot more swings than it’s helped in my opinion! If you lack mobility and/or strength I encourage flexing the arms (to a point) at the top so that you can unload the arms on the approach to the ball.
      Not everyone has the ability to transfer energy and speed kinematically from the ground to the club head! You have to help each student based on their individual needs.
      In any case I much prefer feeling like your trail arm is a little more extended at the top to create width! You want to maintain ‘structure’ but importantly minimize ‘tension!’ It’s a tight rope that I walk every day with my students!

Clueless as to what I’m doing that’s so different with the driver. Also seems like pulling the arms down fast and not dragging the club thru impact is contradictory. The swing is happening so fast how do you slow down the arms and transfer energy to the clubhead so that you don’t drag it thru impact. Seems like it has to happen on its own. Thoughts please. I notice in a lot of your videos you choke down at least an inch on your irons. Why?

      A creature of habit! Helps me ‘feel’ the club head more. Best, Coach A. 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🙏🏻

    Yes arms are the major speed producer but Sequencing is the key All pros like you started as weak kids,the club is very heavy,its milliseconds but the arms move last Most golfers start as strong men they move the arms first to take the club away then body
    Agree with everything in video,i do right arm only swings and strikes But warning you need some physical conditioning or u may injure yourself,use a tennis racquet first
    PS doing left arm only swings has turned me almost ambidextrous!

    Golf comment: Funny… as a right-handed person who plays golf left-handed, I find lead side, one-handed swings easier than trail side, one-handed swings.
    None-golf comment: “Conflate” means to fuse into one entity or merge. It doesn’t mean to confuse or mistake.

      That makes sense! Always easier with your dominant hand. Best, A. 🏌️‍♂️⛳️🙏🏻

      I too am right handed playing golf left handed. I've had to learn to neutralize my right hand and arm during my swing. If not, I tend to pull shots to the right. Practicing trail arm swings only is a benefit. I focus on more left (trail) arm movement through impact to finish.
