I own H2, H2S and X100vi, having started with the original X100. My list of individual strengths:
X100vi - lens shutter and ND filter allows flash on broad daylight and wide aperture when shooting video
H2 - max shutter speed of 1/180,000sec is great in brightly lit situations and the 40Mpxl allows for punching in to provide longer lens shots without loss of quality
H2S - best video and rolling shutter and low light

Another really interesting video. Not only for the reviews but also for the photos. Yet again you have reminded me that I do SO want to go to Lisbon and see those wonderful trams. As to cameras, I love cameras and have never quite found the ONE camera that I feel is the ONLY one for me. So currently I have an X-Pro2, X-T2, X-T3, X-T4, X-T5, X-H2, X100VI and 2 Nikon ZFs. Oh, and I still occasionally use my older Nikon D90 and D7100 and Canon Powershot G9. Each has a different and special place in my affections and I could not bear to part with any of them. But I did love your reviews here. Thanks Roman.

I have the XH2s, 100VI, and the GFX100ii. I'm mainly a shoot still photography so I haven't noticed any issues with autofocus. The 100VI is my daily walk around camera. I have no issues with battery life even though it still uses the older model battery. I tend to flip my power switch off while I'm walking unless I get into a photo rich area. I haven't noticed any of these models getting warm or hot but I am not in a very hot environment and again I don't shoot much video. I really enjoy your videos and comments on your gear. Keep up the good work.

I'm happy to hear you make the IQ comment regarding the older cameras. If you're not earning money with your photography, the older X series cameras are plenty. I still use and love my X-T3 and it's fantastic. I agree with your assessment about the feel of the X-T5 compared to older models is a feeling of lower build quality. I was quite surprised when I held one for the first time. BTW, this also happened to me with the XF55-200 lens. When I picked one up for the first time I was surprised that it was so light feeling. Thanks for the practical overview of these cameras Roman! Have a great week.

As someone who's primarily an a7 IV shooter, I tried holding the X-H2/s in a store, and I'd dispute it feeling "similar". Obviously, it's not worlds apart, but to me the X-H2/s was significantly more comfortable to use than the Sony camera, which still ended up feeling more like a tool, with the Fuji being premium. Otherwise, my Fuji camera remains the X-T30, though looking to move up to the X-T5 as I find the X-T30 just too small.

"Get clogged up with dirt and sand"
Oh yeah! One of the things I photography a lot is winter solstice traditions and celebrations, so lots of stuff falls into it, so it's quite easy for the dials to get a bit stuck, including the power switch.
Speaking of power switch, and this is a design and usability issue, I hate the one from X-T5. It's small and tricky to grip, and I have small hands. I still use a X-T3, it's the backup for my X-T5, and that one has a bigger and much more comfortable switch.

Great to see this comparison video, thanks once again Roman for all the content you make!
Its interesting as I've gone on a similar journey - but with slightly different needs. I have purchased and continue to own all of the following: XT5 > X-E1 > X-Pro 2 > X100vi.
Each camera has a different feel and use case. The X-Pro 2 is probably my favourite, mainly because it feels like an X-E1 (slow, but goddamn *that* shutter sound) but is almost in touching distance of a XT-3 in terms of capability.
I absolutely agree with Roman regarding the XT-5's capability and versatility, and enjoy trying the different lenses; prime, zoom, all depending the use case. Its layout is spot on, everything falls to hand and its got the better battery type.
However the X100vi confuses me a little. It *is* a beautiful piece of engineering and it absolutely is capable, but its missing a few key elements that makes me connect with it - namely WHERE IS THE MANUAL SHUTTER SOUND? I know it seems a silly thing to call out, but it is something that emotionally attaches me to the camera - I understand it is a compromise for the size, but it really does let it down. The smaller format battery is a headache and the buttons are a pain - why takeaway the directional pad?
That being said, they're ALL lovely pieces of engineering and technology that I always enjoy taking shots with, even if I'm nowhere near capable of getting the best out of them.

To me the dials makes me work faster. I’m mostly in aperture priority and don’t have to change them very often, but when I need a shutter speed outside of the parameters I’ve set I can just turn the shutter speed dial, I don’t have to change modes back and forth or change my auto ISO preset.

Funny thing - I started quite late in photography and my first "real" camera was an X-T2, so I learned photography with the dedicated dials. When I first used an X-H, or whenever I have to use a Sony/Nikon/Canon, I'm completely lost! My mind just doesn't work in "PASM" mode, I need to look at each parameter individually and set each one. That's probably because I'm not a Professional, though, so usually take my time and am very deliberate. My only "shortcut" is leaving the sutter speed in Auto most of the time.
Of course, if I exclusively used a "PASM" dial camera, I would get used to it after some time, but given it's the predominant way of photographing, I'm always in awe at how people can actually control their exposures with that. xD
I have the X-T5 now, had the X-T2 and X-T3 before, and I also feel a little drop in build quality. It's not poor, but there's a feeling the buttons and panels are a little bit flimsier and looser.

But couldn't leave the feedback :(. This goes for any camera with dials and I even had to use on the on/off switch of the x-t5. DO NOT SEND FOR REPAIR! It's a £0.01 self-fix! Actually, you do _not_ need that big attachment on your X100VI to make it 'weather-resistant.'
You just need to use a lens filter adapter ring and any 49mm filter. You can do this cheaply and compactly with the Haoge lens filter adapter ring and an ultra-slim UV filter. Those two things total only about USD20.

It's definitely not for everyone, but after a starting period where I didn't really know if I should keep it, I am now at the point where I am questioning needing anything else.
The IV wasn't enough of an upgrade for me, the V lacked weather-proofing and the VI overheats...honestly, not very enticing to upgrade to any of these and they don't have that look the old X-Trans II has.

You mentioned the problem with X-T series top dials getting clogged. The best solution to fix it is to use a dental floss and just "floss" the gunk out if. Doing that fixed the problem for quite a long time. Now I do it every time I'm cleaning my cameras and don't have this problem any more.
Oh and about the build quality... fuji build quality is getting worse and worse with every generation. I have the X-E2s, X-T2 and X-H2s. The X-H2s feels like a toy compared to the other two. I now have it for half a year and use it professionally and the paint is getting off like on your X-T5. It is chipping of on the edge between the shutter button and back dial. I have no idea how that is event possible since I use it only while holding in hand, I never have it slinging around my neck. It's either in my hand or in the bag. The other two cameras I use for daily carry and have them always slinging around my body going to parties, hiking and other outside activities and they are holding up way better. Honestly I'm kinda disappointed with the X-H2s, it's a great camera but it's not like the other two "Made in Japan" cameras, that's why I am stocking up on old fuji cameras 😅

    • @brownbear100
      @brownbear100 День тому

The old x-t2 was a catalogue of build quality issues both externally and internally.
Fujirumors even ran a survey on it to see how bad it really was. Over 2000 responded, with 25% having had to return it for various issues, reading the comments, some had to return it several times. And this survey was too early to catch the screen failings that started happening once the cameras were out of warranty. X-t1 also wasn't problem free, nor earlier x100 cameras, with failed shutter mechanisms, broken not clogged dials. Same with the lenses, the old made in Japan ones often had poor to very poorly constructed aperture rings.
I think people tend to look back on the "good old days" with rose tinted spectacles. The x-h2 certainly felt more solid than the x-t5 side by side, but paint aside the x-t5 holds its own. The dials were made easier to turn clearly on the 5, but the command dials of the x-t2 were not the best - squidgy not clicky. X70 was the same. Also the x-h2 is bigger and heavier, it should feel chunkier! The x-h2 and x-t2 are fairly comparable otherwise.
At least with the 40mp sensors, Fuji went back to the superior colour rendering of the x-t2, that's really where it excelled.
      Here's that survey:

I’m hoping they finally nail autofocus with the X-H3S. If they do I’d be happy to get one… if not I might sell my soul to Sony…. I’d still keep the X100VI as a EDC camera though. Hoping they get it fixed owning the 150-600mm and whatnot

They had good AF in X-H2s before FW 3.0 and their predictive algorithm. In FW 6.0, Fuji tried to push it forward and accidentally broke AF completely

Freeze ups are so not normal. My iPhone never freezes, neither does my Sony camera.

If anyone considers a brand new xh2h right now, just buy a z6iii. If you hate for money, then eh😂
