I have two ev in family. Happy for daily use. But for the touring family car, ev with 430km wltc won't do. I did a trip a few months ago in WA in model Y 270km is the longest travel between chargers. Tesla barely did it at high way speed. So for me towing a caravan at least 650km range will make me confident. Even this will not do in some trips like great Northern highway. No charger network. Phev is the only option atm.
Rivian killer.... I have a Polestar 2 and recognize some parts being shared in the cabin... Ford needs to get the Ranger EV on the market with comparable prices now!! Stay safe, Tim in Texas
Tim, agreed! Ford really dropped the ball by not getting a Ford Ranger EV out three years ago. US truck owners are really funny! We buy trucks because we are makers and because we see ourselves as self reliant and independent. Yet most of us haven’t yet installed solar and batteries on our homes. So we are still slaves to corrupt electricity and fossil fuel cartels expensive and dirty gas and diesel. My plan is to get rid of my Dodge Ram as soon as a Ranger-sized, EV pickup comes out. It has been a great work truck for me. But I have solar and no longer want to pay for gas.
Yeah I love my Ridgeline too but EV Ridgelines seem far away. I have been waiting for a decent EV truck and sadly I think we will be waiting a while. If Tesla built this instead of whatever they are trying to sell now, I think that would destroy all North American ICE light truck sales. We love our trucks.
Aussie ute buyers interested in electrification will mostly be interested in EREVs. This won't threaten the Shark 6 - BYD understand what Australians want.
Shark benefit is long range on fuel when needed, but usable EV range. Serves the outback adventuring crowd better than an all EV ute. Still, 450km in the Radar (less if loaded up) is still plenty for local delivery duties. Won't suit everyone but will be a viable option for some. Good news to have more pick up options Sam. Trouble is here in the UK our new Labour government is trying to screw us over every which way. There will be no income tax relief on pick ups from April. Pick ups will be classed the same as company cars, where you pay a steep tax on the purchase price known as benefit in kind. Farmers, self employed etc will be much worse off!
The UK is one of the few places without specific Chinese EV tariffs, just the normal car import tax of 10%. In the EU it's going to be another +18.8% for Geely EV imports.
If you're wanting to travel out of the city, then the range is always going to be an issue. The 6 years road side assist would be nice, but you'll be waiting a while for Roadside Assist to turn up and waiting longer to get sufficient charge to just carry on to the next charger. I'll stick with the onboard generator option thanks.
If you have an EV pickup (ute), just put a gasoline or propane generator in the bed (tray) with a connector and there you go. What does a generator with a full tank cost...a few hundred dollars for a decent one. How about a charged up Bluetti, EcoFlow or similar portable power station - which also have available, very thin (5 - 10 millimeter thick) solar panels which can be roof or tonneau mounted with industrial double sided tape. Many options if you want to get off the petroleum to keep your portable power station charged up.

THAT is why the Shark wins for most people who will go “out of town” even if only just occasionally.
As I learned by the other comments and then using the Google, this truck has been replaced with the King Kong. Which actually looks bigger and better, if not as luxurious.
I’ve been saying it for 18 months now, Geely are going to be the new VW group, soon 😮Volvo, Polestar, Zeekr, Lotus, Smart ❤ yes I bought my #1 Brabus in October 2023 and love it.❤
The plugs showing in the tray all look AU and NZ, are there other countries where these are used?????????????????? As it could indicate they are intended for the AU and NZ markets.
Yes, the more options the better, BUT... the long tray means very long over-hang, which in turn means a poor departure angle and (i suspect) towing issues (it's basically going to cantilever). It's also not a 'real' 4x4 with a ladder frame; it's like the old commodore or falcon utes. It may have "high strength steel", as Sam says, and it uses the battery pack as a structural member, but that's really not the same. So, I'm very keen to drive one, i like the styling, and i love that it's fully electric, but at the moment the Shark seems the better option for me.
Hi mate, my information tells me that the RD6 has been discontinued due to the low sales and has been replaced by the new "king Kong"...cheers, and keeping up the good work
On paper only , Mexicans complained 21 litres per 100 towing, 2.5 tonnes , and won't climb a hill with massive gradient, next month you will see all the problems owning a chinese car including byd
I still prefer the Shark. The big attraction for me with the shark is that it's a hybrid. Australia is a big place, and electric charging is not available in a hell of a lot of places. Can have the best of both worlds in the shark, massive EV power for speed and towing, can also keep some extra petrol in the back to extend your range. Also, the Shark looks much better and more masculine than the Riddara, in fact I don't like how this truck looks at all.
I say bring on the Chinese EVS. While we’re at it let’s get rid of the dealership model. Far too many dealerships ripped people off during the car market shortage. We are entering a new age of vehicles where batteries will last longer than the car. There will be no money in maintenance as the vehicles are very simple. We are going to see hundreds of dealerships going out of business in the next 2-5 years.
It's not 'coming', it's for sale already. And they announced an even cheaper version called "King Kong", yes Chinese naming is that awesome. That's gonna cost US$13,000 in China so maybe 600,000 THB / US$17,500 in Thailand. They gonna wipe the market clean with that one. Never wanted a pickup truck but the RD6 is seriously nice. And they come in decent colors unlike most cars these days.
No one who is an offroader would seriously consider either the shark or the Riddara, for multiple reasons.. Sure, buy one for around town, but that's about it.
This Ute maybe good for some, but towing I think will be its downfall. 400klm range without towing and only 3000kgs. If these are like any other EV your range will reduce by half. So if I live in Brisbane towing my van I’m going to get too Byron bay if I’m lucky.
Although this could be a little way off, or maybe a long way, who knows... my wish list is to have an SUV similar sized to my Ford Territory that is AWD, has a range of 1600 km on single charge, and can fully charge in a few minutes.
He has no idea what the pricing will be in Australia. He's only converting Thai Bhat to Australian dollars. Geely cars tend have their prices inflated in Australia, relative to other markets.
Sticking with the shark. Bigger, better ground clearance, bigger tub, no range anxiety although the range on the top spec is acceptable. Come on already and bring us proper ground clearance, reduction gears and lockers in a duel cab. The shark doesn’t have these things but I still think it’s more suited to my needs and it’s coming right now.
With all these Chinese cars coming to Australia how many are going to be here for the long term and how well do they back their product. They sound good but reliability and durability is the big question
Everything looks great except what appears to be exposed high-voltage cables at 5:54. If they’re nowhere near anything then it’s not an issue but I never like seeing them out in the open.
Geely group is definitely competing with the BYD group... I don't think BYD can beat Geely in pricing, for more than 10 years Geely was focusing on the affordable area in China, BYD also has some low price product also some super power EVs, but as far as I know, there's nothing higher class car from Geely, they just spend everything to make the cars affordable.
The only D-max with independent suspension is the China variant. China always prioritize comfort. By the way on a not related news, a Cybertruck just exploded outside Trump Tower.
Hi Sam, two weekends ago I had to drive 1100klms in a 30 hour turn around. From sea level over 1000 metres and back again with 800 kgs in my Ute and 1000kgs towed. There were two functional chargers on that route that weekend. Until Australia develops a reliable and a efficient charging network in the regions you are flogging a dead horse. For a lot of users EV’s are just not an option.
But for a lot of users they are, don’t project your problem on the masses. This is just the beginning, battery development is going full throttle. Maybe you are flogging a dead horse? 😊
I think that's a you problem. 1100km in 30 hours and 1000kg tow? You would be probably 0.001% of the Australian population. And if you are not doing that extreme trip regularly just have an EV, save money for %99 of your driving and rent a Ford Ranger for 2 days.
Irrespective of an individual’s driving experience - Australia has no future transportation strategy and is dependent on the resource sector and their lobbyists. Even if federal government did have a plan, it would take year for implementation and will be 300% over budget and deliver only 20% of proposed scope.

Any words when this nice truck will be arriving in Europe
I’ve been saying it for 18 months now, Geely are going to be the new VW group, soon 😮Volvo, Polestar, Zeekr, Lotus, Smart ❤ yes I bought my #1 Brabus in October 2023 and love it.❤
I read both Volvo and Polestar going bust.
That is impressive carrying and towing capacity, if true.
Yes about time to see in an ev, will be interesting to see range when towing these weights as that’s what keeps me personally from being interested.
Great car, hybrid is best for Australia currently
I mean this is a light use ute does not look like its anything more than a lifestyle ute, will not do offroad work etc wont replace a Toyota Hilux.
These vids are so much better than you speculating on what Bannon and Elon are bitchin' to each other about (just sayin') Thanks Sam!!
Mr. Viking "You don't want big wheels [the diameter] on a pickup truck."
Absolutely!
The plugs showing in the tray all look AU and NZ, are there other countries where these are used?????????????????? As it could indicate they are intended for the AU and NZ markets.
I sure wish we could buy this in the USA. :-(
Yes, the more options the better, BUT... the long tray means very long over-hang, which in turn means a poor departure angle and (i suspect) towing issues (it's basically going to cantilever). It's also not a 'real' 4x4 with a ladder frame; it's like the old commodore or falcon utes. It may have "high strength steel", as Sam says, and it uses the battery pack as a structural member, but that's really not the same. So, I'm very keen to drive one, i like the styling, and i love that it's fully electric, but at the moment the Shark seems the better option for me.
yeah the prices would be good before the "local distributor tax".
Sam, what's your background
, what are your qualifications in regards to EV's
Did I see Chademo charging?!!😫
I have been talking about this truck for two years now!
I hope it will/can come to North America. Otherwise, I may take a trip down to Mexico.
What does 540-degree camera view mean? (360 is a full circle)
Ford recalling it's EV Lightning pickup for loss of steering. Good thing they didn't sell too many of them
Caveat the pricing is similar in Australia.
HEY SAM 'JUST WONDERING 'HOW MANY EV'S DO YOU HAVE ?
He has an xpeng G6
Is it gong to come in Plug in Elec Hybrid or EV only? Range n charge times. Ta.
Hi mate, my information tells me that the RD6 has been discontinued due to the low sales and has been replaced by the new "king Kong"...cheers, and keeping up the good work
True, I got this info from Sam last week I think.
How many ev's do you own now ? Dozen or so ?
Amazing. Maybe I don’t want the V6 Amarok or Ford Ranger any more.
Once again you are anti BYD , value for money and great cars.
On paper only , Mexicans complained 21 litres per 100 towing, 2.5 tonnes , and won't climb a hill with massive gradient, next month you will see all the problems owning a chinese car including byd
You are mistaking ,is electric only not the best set up for Tradies in Australia
I want one!!!!
Cybertruck currently on fire at Trump Las Vegas entry.
Geely is really going after BYD. That's good
What would they service on an electric car even?
Was that chademo?
I wish there was a fully electric van, as that is what I really want rather than a ute.
Probably safer to stick with the Shark’s PHEV than Radar EV, better range and can run almost like a regular hybrid when battery depleted.
Call em and have them put in quicker charging. That will make it road trip worthy. Throw tent and gear in back and go
Hard to know how to take your advice. Have you driven one ?
Here in USA we could finally import Toyota Hilux Those trucks are pretty nice especially the ones from the early 90s
Overrated
I say bring on the Chinese EVS. While we’re at it let’s get rid of the dealership model. Far too many dealerships ripped people off during the car market shortage. We are entering a new age of vehicles where batteries will last longer than the car. There will be no money in maintenance as the vehicles are very simple. We are going to see hundreds of dealerships going out of business in the next 2-5 years.
Needs bigger wheels and wheel guards. Has it got a spare wheel?
Awesome
Excited....this is the vehicle I've been waiting for hopefully 🤞
Sam are you counting GST with your estimate
When I return to Bangkok I will need shoulder surgery that sadly is the same price as the down payment on the Riddara.
95% climbing gradient is an angle of 42.75 degrees.
in thailand 900000 baht
Awesome I wouldn’t buy one they left out the coffee machine😂
The Shark looks better in my opinion :)
Good car, but I would still get a BYD Shark.
4wd long range version won't be LFP :( unless something has changed.

Thank you
If petrol pump owners were smart, they would install a few chargers in their stationss, but alas...
