House really knows how to push people's buttons.
Anti-social Personality disorder. Also known as a psychopath.
House, one of my heroes.
I mean it's pretty low hanging fruit to pick on people in a psyche ward.
He does seem gifted with it. I’m sure it helps to have next to no inhibitions.

Man I always cry at the end of this episode when Alvie is watching House leaving Mayfield and then he goes to ask for his meds and says he wants to get better...it's so touching. And I love how House even though his pain almost always sends his thoughts to a really dark place, he always gives a little light everywhere he goes.
Yea this season was good

I think I could watch a spin off with House dealing with nothing but the insane.

Then you need to see “Chance”. It’s Hugh Laurie playing a shrink 😉
@@codyeble0713 I know right 😂
Yeah when he told that chick she's a failure for not killing herself it was so cool I want to see more of it!!!
I like how he starts with asking her to break a very small rule (leave the lid unlocked) and escalates from there.
I like how people break down stuff in the comments. It's literally why I watch these short videos despite already having watched the show xD
I'm such a nerd
As someone who was recently hospitalised in a psychiatric hospital, I can say with confidence that Gregory House is asking to be assaulted by another patient with all this provocation.
They're all debilitated by their mental issues, they can't even fight back properly
He's just being cruel because despite being there voluntarily he doesn't want to change
@@haddy106 Do not forget about the "fight" in "fight or flight."
@@haddy106 What indication do you have that a guy suffering paranoia and a claustrophobe couldn't hit him?
@@arthurjeremypearson
Fight, flight, FREEZE.
He was grumpy, sure, but he also was making a point that their therapy was a joke. They simply were dosing and coddling the patients.
By prodding them House was showing how they hadn't addressed their actual thoughts/minds.
That story arc really got to me. I have a close friend whose husband killed himself, and it just... broke her. She became someone else. She ended up being committed into a place like that, and she's still there. She's paranoid and terrified all the time, thinks the doctors are trying to hurt her, outbursts of anger and panic, messaging me in the middle of the night pleading with me to help her because she's being "held captive". I ended up contacting the hospital and offering to share all this with them as it seems I'm the only person she will open up to. Maybe I'm the only connection left to her real self. It's almost like her husband and I are the only people she even remembers having a positive relationship with. I agreed with the hospital that I don't mind talking to her, and I would discreetly share anything worrying she says with them like if she's threatening suicide or something because she just refuses to talk to them about much of anything, just paranoid ranting. But it's weird, when she talks to me, sometimes I get the same stuff, but occasionally, it's like she becomes her old self again for a little while, but then the next day, she will start sending panicked messages again. It's really awful to see a friend in pain like that. I hope one day she will recover.
Not many people care about them when they've lost it, You're genuinely a great old soul. God Bless you
That's awful. I don't know your or her situation at all, but those kinds of places vary hugely, if you can, it might be worth trying moving her somewhere else to see if it's any better for her.
Help her don't go complaining on youtube.
@@gishena what are you smoking, guy is just sharing an experience, that's the furthest thing away from complaining, maybe pick up comprehension skills goddamn
How do you know they are treating her nice? Do you actually visit, or is it just messages?
Days, weeks and months of therapy went down the shitter as soon as House entered the court.
The occasional bits of confronting are healthy. When the rest of the group's stable, you let out negative nancy.
I bet the actor who who played Alvie didnt think he would be responsible one of the greatest Broadway musicals ever made.
And don't forget the writer of the two best Disney songs you're welcome and Shiney
He was writing it during this, he even had hughs input on King George's song
@@haddy106 THATS SO COOL
Lin was fresh off his run of In The Heights
I mean he's the one that proved others that he never touch his balls
I worked in a State Hospital for 30 years and no one got sent to a rubber room just for being disruptive, they were just told to leave the group.
Ex patient here, can confirm. Most likely sent to your room, depending on what you did. Pull a house and blurt out everyones problems tho, especially mentioning suicide, and you get lockdown 1 day (still not the rubber room, but full lockdown no contact with people except the occasional nurse, 3 days of that will mess you up)
Ofc this is from experience, and cannot confirm for the rest of hospitals, wards, etc.
We dont have a rubber room but we have something similar for patients who are violent in which case they are restrained on the bed.
@@HentaiJesus69 3 days of no contact? I'd love that...
What is the point pf the rubber room? It seems to be medieval torture. l cant imagine shutting someone away for days on end is going to help their mental health.
@@theiranfelt that, only contact is the nurses bringing grub and occasionally checking in. one of the rooms I stayed in (I have been there more than once) had a window to the helicopter pad, so 3 days of watching that was fun in a way. I always requested paper for paper airplanes.
One of the best episodes. They could have ended the show right here and it would have been ok (but then the beautiful ending scene of season 8 wouldn't have happened). That's how good this episode is.
The scene where he went in, in fact that whole episode arc to get to that point, was great.
@Wes & TKP 66-02 his leg doesn't make him miserable. He wants his leg as an excuse to stay miserable
It doesn't work that wait. House's pain is psychological (but very real). Even if he cuts his leg, the pain will still be there. What he feels is not "the pain from his mangled leg", but the phantom pain from the infarction he got before.
@@michaelmcdoesntexist1459 dude . I think you're not a medico. The pain will go away with amputation. But he wants his leg, he wants some pain that keeps him feel alive and miserable. House is such a masochist. He wants pain and he feels life is pain.
@@PRAW1N oh, i'm certaintly not a physician, I have just watched the show. It's said and shown multiple times that his pain is psychological and is not as simple as amputing the leg. He is susceptible to placebos (as long as he is not aware he is taking a placebo), and his pain gets stronger the more miserable he is and ir retreats the more "happy" he is. There is also the fact that his pain is worse that ir should be because of his adiction to Vicodin, and he himself says his pain will not disappear even if he gets his leg amputed on seasons 1 and 6.
He doesn't want to be miserable. He is afraid of change, and he is afraid of trying to be happier and failing at that. He chooses to be miserable because he is too damaged to believe he can be something better.
And yes, that is said alotta times in the show. Try to watch it instead of just looking for shorts on YT
Loved the chemistry of House and Lydia, Wanted to see more of them.
"Are you a new doctor on the ward?"
"Technically yes."
I never put it together that Alvie was Lin-Manuel Miranda until this rewatch! What a talent!
i didn't know who Lin was till i knew about Hamilton
his voice is distinct to me
I have a hard time believing that House would be cruel to vulnerable, genuinely disabled people. Dispelling delusion? Sure. Making the professionals look stupid? Yep. But not making a claustrophobic person scares without any reason it would help them.
but that is fair - he shows the inefficiency of the therapy - it is a joke at the expense of the system that was set up there. many of these could be treated as outpatients.
It's house how is it surprising
its perfectly house. he doesn't believe he needs treatment in a psych ward and neither does he believe the others in there deserve to be there either. for him to poke fun at them is for him to NOT believe they are disabled. to me, him treating them harshly, like any other person, shows he sees them as normal people.
@@kzalesak4 being cruel in a B-Ball game does not point to a specific flaw. Even if many could be outpatients, he neither moves them or the system towards that, nor is it remotely justifiable to be malicious to such fragile people as an (entirely ineffective) means to an end. Sometimes he is just mean & petty.
@@CountlessPWNZ But those people being so hurt & delusional with his crude antics shows they are disabled. But at times like this he is not acting for their best interest. In tune with his character yes-sometimes his rough means break through B.S. & reach people. But he also does it automatically, compulsively, regardless of the effect on innocent people.
Lin popping up was hysterical.
House found his place, the place where he can let his intrusive thoughts completely win
I miss House's dry humor. There's no character like him since.
You could watch The Practice, and Boston Legal, starring James Spader (the latter also includes William Shatner as Denny Crane). Lots of good dry humor in that one.
watch Rowan Atkinson in Blackadder. Master of dry wit sarcasm and witty put downs

It's interesting that this episode really illustrates how corrupt and abusive mental health institutions can be.
Without going into the ugly details, my mother ended up in a scenario like this. She went off antidepressants for a few days, had withdrawal symptoms, and the hospital dumped her in a place like this. She was lucid the first day and yet they held her for seven and kicked her out the second the insurance company stopped paying for it.
We got no say in what happened to her because she had not transferred power of attorney to anyone beforehand. In that scenario, they could do whatever they pleased.
It's a horrible experience to have all your senses and wits about you and be treated like a prisoner, locked up with actual screaming crazy people.
Mental health institutions and treatment need some serious overhauls in some places, as where I am, they basically stripped my mother of her rights and treated her like an animal for a week.
The way House picked them off one by one wow......he's got it down like an art form 😄
Probably my fav episode of the series (also, being a two-part, it kinda felt like a movie).
The movie being, specifically, "One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest"
The soundtrack to these two episodes was perfect
Broken 1 and2 is still my favourite episode of House MD
I'm shocked she let him just talk to other patients like that.
I would be difficult in a ward, too. Pharmacy background, so I'd be looking in the cup going...
"I don't want this, I don't want that. I don't want that either." Naming the drugs as I go along.
When you dispense the same stuff every day, you start to become a human pill identifier.
Also, I work in a (non-psych) hospital. I know what my rights are as a patient. I know what standards they have to adhere to to keep accreditation.
When I had to get my Dad out of one the staff weren't too pleased to have someone like me as family looking out for him.
I'm not much of a lawyer, but I can poke ppl's psyche and body
I'd probably be using those
Love anything with Franka Potente in it.
Having spent a few weeks in a psych unit for trying to end my life due to untreated manic depression (doing better now), this is EXACTLY how I remember it. I love how much they realistically portrayed this environment 😆
Wow, from how they portrayed it here it just made it seem like a glorified prison that would worsen most of the patients' symptoms if anything.

This is why I love house md so much
Lin plays Alvie so well
Never understand why house is in a psych ward instead of rehab
Because in the previous episode he was hallucinating, creating a narrative in his head that varied very differently from reality.
@@CaseNumber00 it wasn’t just hallucinations, it was full blown delusion. He was convinced he and Cuddy were partners, causing him to find increasingly escalating ways to humiliate her, believing that it was how she’ll admit she loved him.
He was suffering from drug induced psychosis.
He almost killed chase by following the instructions of Wilson’s dead ex he was hallucinating lol
Rehab is for things like drugs and alcohol abuse. Not for psychotic breaks.
