If you have any questions or any suggestsions for new videos, please leave them in the comments. I would love to make more videos, but I would also love to make videos that YOU want to see.
Hi Cathy. I have enjoyed watching you flip through your first art journal of 2020 and listening to your comments throughout the video. I would have loved to see a video of you creating the 'fragile' painting. Thank you for your most welcome videos and the encouragement and inspiration. Colin. :)
Hello Cathy. I as well do not watch flip throughs but I completely loved yours. Yes i want to see the yellow and black video please. I want to see them all 🙂
So I have to be honest. I almost never watch anyone's flip through 😩🤦♀️ I don't know why, I think it's because I never finish a journal, but yours I was just mesmerized from start to finish. Your work is filled with emotions! Every one is captivating. I am trying your techniques however I am failing but I keep trying because I absolutely love the process! You are inspiring for sure. Thank you for sharing this! 💖💖💖
Thank you so much Joy! Sit down with a piece of paper and hold the very tip of the pencil. Let your hand move without thinking. When you've made some scribbles, pull out som colors that you love. and paint. Don't think or judge yourself. When you've filled the paper, think about what you like and don't like and then put it aside until the next day. You will be surprised when you look at it again. And thats when you can move in on it and do some more work, either with details or more painting. You will surpirse yourself the moment you are true to you. In art you can only be you!
You’re very critical of you work and I enjoyed all of it. So many images and positive emotions poured into them. I saw so much in what you don’t like. Don’t be so hard on yourself the world will do that for you!
Thanks Rebekah. I am actually not critical at all when I paint, but when doing this flip through I was trying to give an honest opinion about what I liked and didnt like. My art journal is my free space and I mostly use it to try new things. 🌸💗✨
Thank you for sharing your journal with us Kathy, it's very inspiring. I like how you said, " l dont know what l was doing with that one" and "that's not finished" that's me sometimes, and I'm sure many others too. I love the white that l see often in your work. It looks like a shredded tissue with tails, and has an ethereal feeling about it. Xx
THANK YOU! So glad you shared this. In your paintings I saw a dog, a bridge, flowers, heaven and beautiful haunting images. Not scary, just very cool. I found myself crying, I really felt something when I saw some of your paintings. Your amazing and I stumbled across you just looking for abstract art ideas. So glad I found you!
Thanks Cathy, I really enjoyed seeing your journey. Some wonderful paintings. I really like the mustard/black painting, so if you can please would you put up? 👏🖌🎨🥳🌈
Wow!!!! Thank you for sharing, I know I keep saying the same thing, but I really enjoy watching your process, I've created a few that I like, even sold one a couple of months ago, most of the time I think I wind up over working a piece...I listen and /or read your conflicts about a piece, I'll be really liking it, and your not liking the way it's going, it is true, we are hardest on ourselves. Thanks again.
Lovely journal, I say yes please to the yellow/black painting at around 8minutes in the video. The new journal looks great, those pages will take quite a beating!
I love watching you paint. Thank you for sharing your talent and techniques. Your paintings are beautiful. I am struggling to find that journal and am wondering which weight paper will take paint. Most of the journals I find are for dry medium. I particularly love the square format and the fact that it's spiral-bound.
Thank you so much! These journals have sketchbook quailty paper in them 130 gsm and are called wire-o-sketchbooks from Kunst & Papier in Germany. They work well with paint as long as I use a layer of gesso on them first.
@@CathyMevik Thanks, Cathy. I'll be looking forward to them. Being stuck inside is one thing; being stuck inside with wonderful enterainment is another! That's my lemonade :)
Hello! I have just discover your art true this video and it touch my soul.. so Beautiful and deep. I am living in Switzerland and apprecied to be able to discover other artist from different countries! Thank you 🙏🌸 Virginie
I agree with the things you and some people say. Be free and work through your mind and shut down your critical thinking. (paraphrasing of course) I was surprised at how many pieces in your sketchbook you didn't like for one reason or another. Just watching you do what you do is great because I watch while I'm painting and it gives me color combo inspiration. Be easier on your art, remember every piece is a small part of your soul at that given time. ✌🏾
Thank you so much Thomas 💙. I do apprecieate my work Thomas. It's just that I don't put to much of my heart into my journals. They are a tool for me. A place where I can relax and a place where I don't have any pressure at all. I guess I was trying to be honest.
@@CathyMevik OK I understand more now. I guess because I watch a lot of painting vids while I paint and for some reason most of the abstract acrylic ones are by women. They mostly seem to struggle with acceptance of their own art. Like it's bad to be too proud of your work. Honesty is almost always a good thing. I still find your color combos better than a color chart for inspiration. ✌🏾
Thomas Tymstone Thanks! Glad I agree! We should all be proud of what we create. And women do tend to be more critical. Glad I am able to inspire you with my colors! Have a wonderful and creative weekend! ❤️
I have been enjoying your videos very much. The skill you demonstrate with blending is amazing. I think I will try a journal.....it takes discipline to go back and revisit old paintings...mine go right in the trash...maybe journaling will help me curb that tendency to destroy unsuccessful work and create a path to follow. You are extremely interesting to watch😊
Thank you so much! Go get a journal and enjoy yourself. Journaling is an amazing way to practice and a wonderful place where you can be free of all pressure. Happy Creating! 💜🧡💚
Isn't it wonderful how different our taste is?! There were some paintings where you were like, you didn't like them because of this and that, and I was like wow! And with others I though "maybe a no" and you liked them :) It just proves that art IS ALWAYS beautiful, it just depends on the perspective you look at it and how you feel in this particular moment. Love your work!
Your art is inspiring ! Thanks for sharing your technique(s). One question, please : do you draw the fine lines with traditional fineliners, or with acrylic paint filled in a special bottle ??? Many thanks for an info ! 🙏
Thank you for sharing your beautiful artwork in your journal. Seeing your journey through the journal is helpful. I really love the idea of making art this way. Do you gesso to prep each page before painting? Also, do you turn any into paintings on larger canvases?
Thank you so much! 🧡Art journaling is a great way of creating alot of work. It gives you an easy way to progress with your painting. I do gesso the pages in this journal because the paper is only sketchbook quality. I have done canvas paintings based on my art journal pages once or twice. I am all about working intuitivly. Hope this helps. 👍
Thanks Robin. I gesso the page I want to paint on before I begin. It dries quite fast, but I use a hairdryer if I want to speed up th process. You can use both watercolor and any other kind of watersolubles on gesso, but it gives a totally different effect than plain paper. Hope this helps! ❤️

I always enjoy watching your videos Cathy. Being fairly new to painting I get great inspiration from watching you work, though I do struggle with blending. My paint always seems to dry too quickly once I have gone over it with a roller (I always use gesso first) & using a brush to blend with makes no impact at all. I have many questions! But one in particular is your use of your white fine liner - is this a bottle you fill with paint yourself or is it bought off the shelf? If you self fill doesn’t the nozzle get blocked with the paint drying? Once again many thanks for sharing your art work - there are 3 artists in particular I watch on UA-cam, yourself (obviously 😊), Dan Tirels & Stuart Noble. 👍
Thanks Lee! Glad you enjoy! Acrylic paint does dry fast and even faster if you live in a warm climate. Retarder is an acrylic medium that can be used. By addin max 5% to you paint, it will delay the drying time, will very little effect on the viscosity and opacity. There is also a slow drying medium, but these will have effect on the viscosiity and opacity. I use Royal Talens Amsterdam painting, so this is the product I am refering to. Different products have different specs, so if you use another brand you need to read up on whats what. ;) The fineliner is called just that. The fineline applicator is an empty bottle I fill with paint and water, but you can also use extender or both water and extender. You just need to mix it to a consistency you think will work for you. The top of the bottle has a small needle point that goes into the nozzle so it stays open when not in use. I love watching both Dan Tirels, and Lewis Noble too. Very inspiring to see the at work.
