MAN did that bring back memories. I saw him at Madison Square Garden in NYC and at the Coliseum in Uniondale Long Island in the early 70's. During one show there was a power failure and we sat in total darkness with only Elton and the piano continuing on. It was totally AWESOME. He was an unbelievable performer!!! Loved this SO much.
Many thanx....I have searched fruitlessly and in vain for anything remotely approaching the skill, talent, and sheer excellence of John & Co. And there are more than a few out there I listen to today...but time is the ultimate decider of what lasts, and I can't think of a single piece of work from today that will be around 20 years from now. Elton and his music will be around 200 years from now, and we're all blessed to have had him about all these years.
It's amazing to see Elton at such a young age, still down to earth, just the way he moves playing the piano is so different from now! Can't believe he had made this song so young, blows my mind!! Love you Elton!!
This brings back great memories for me also. My friend Bob Wilisch, may he rest in peace, gave me this on an 8 track when we were in the ninth grade. This was a truly great album. He was a good friend too.
Tumbleweed Connection is my favourite album. Burn Down The Mission is just one reason!!!! This version is really great. Elton's the cutest cutie in cutie-town! R.I.P Dee Murray!
This guy is quite the best that I ever heard, his melody, lyrics and playing skills are amazing. Our generation was so lucky to have him as an entertainer. Never had a chance to see him live but looking forward too.. KEEP ON PLAYING ELTON. MAP PRIE POU OU
Has it really been over 35 years since Bernie and Elton were so young? I remember going to parties with a stack of albums under my arm! I was so grateful when I finaly got my reel to reel!
as a laura nyro fan i sure missed the boat to recognize that she was a great influence in his timing and style for this song. god bless laura, god bless elton. long live progressive rock and long live the interesting things that come out of different yet divergent modes of thought and intent of style and song.
It is great seeing this version of the song, obviously in its early stages before it was rearranged and recorded for 'Tumbleweed....". Amazing to think that this shy young 23 year old (with great 'Hobbit' hairdo), was to take Amercia by storm at The Troubador in LA a few months later. One of my favorite things about this BBC2 TV concert is seeing Paul Buckmaster conducting his arrangements with the orchestra and Gus Dudgeon smiling in the audience.
This is when I got into Elton John, in 1970! I bought a bootleg of a concert. The vinyl wz like 4 inches thick and the recording LOUSY!! I loved that record, played on my little stereo I got with my moms' S & H stamps.
I was there on May 29, 1971 at the Tumbleweed Connection concert in Miami. My first concert. And to this day it remains the best live experience I have ever had. Incredible.
Tumbleweed Connection has got to be the best Elton album... hands down. Love this one, "Country Comfort", "Ballad of a Well-Known Gun." I could listen them all. Just a great album.
I agree. My favorite song from my favorite Elton John album. This song rings so true now. US foreclosure mills, listen up! Only such a strong team of artists could produce such a timeless work.
Raw, pure and as powerful with a trio as with a full orchestra as in Live From Australia, because it was fresh/new. Dee & Nigel are probably the most underrated rhythm section in rock music. Great post Rockermad
Outstanding. I was in 6th grade when this awesome song came out. I'm with hitcharide all the way! Elton John and his team of artists: for real for real!
...we're seeing the very roots of what became, through the years, a huge tree. And I like the fruits that came from it.. the whole way along it's growth ;-) Yet even long before this video, Elton (obviously) was performing and honing his talents. I'd love to see some of THAT! Really early, young Reggie stuff. Any exist?? I cut my teeth on Elton, back in the day. Now I play professionally for a country star. Thank you, Elton! You'll always be #1 (well.. ok I GOTTA mention Keith Jarrett too! haha)
"Tumbleweed Connection" is Elton's best album in my opinion, and in the opinion of many fans all over. That album just flows seamlessly from start to finish.
I was 14 nearly 15 when I saw this trio early Jan 1971 being supported by Argent at the Hemel Hempstead Pavilion cost me 70 pence to get in. What a night, only the second gig I ever went to. I remember this song as being a lot longer and wilder than this.....
It's a real pity how Elton lost this voice in the early 80's. I remember when I bought 11.17.70 and I already had three of his albums with this super tuned high-pitch voice... remember Empty Sky? wow!
I love Nigel in this...totally hamming it up for the camera. It's fun, also, to read the comments of the kids who have no idea about Elton John and are learning about him for the first time.
Elton was sawing masterpieces like his off by the yard back then. I'm an English kid of the 70's & might have had this in one ear & Bowie's "Hunky Dory" in the other. I though that was it things were going to be like this forever this was just the start but then the 1980's & people who made music for money came along......
Yes his voice did change, age does that and overworking your voice, I sae him in college 1972- and 1973 and again in the 80's All good but different God I love his music
Elton wasn't kidding about "the biggest drum kit in the world" and it's great see the audience finally catching fire at the end. Fantastic song, and WOW did Elton ever have a head of hair on him in the seventies!~ lol!
It was a little before this time Elton was a session musician - Mr Bloe's "Groovin with Mr Bloe" and The Hollies "He ain't heavy, hes my brother" were two tracks of many that featured his piano playing...
He is very enticing here--vocals are wonderful. His appearance is interesting. very cute in an elfish sort of way. Love the hair and glasses and cute button nose
@CoyotePoet this was NOT a wig! Back in 1970, Elton had just turned 23yrs old in March...yes, this was his real hair at this time frame believe it or not! lol :)
Great stuff. Tumbleweed Connection is a great, mellow album. I have the SACD version of the CD, and play it on a 5.1 surround system. It is really a joy to listen to a high quality audio production of that album. . . .. Too bad high quality audio is out of favor, replaced by convenience. iPods and such are a good thing, but they've created a situation where the MP3 format and playback in cheap earbuds do not (for the most part) warrant high quality audio production, and that's a shame.
Loved this SO much.
played during a power outage....incredible.
When he's playing, it's so easy to see how much he's enjoying himself, and that's just amazing
Many thanx....I have searched fruitlessly and in vain for anything remotely approaching the skill, talent, and sheer excellence of John & Co. And there are more than a few out there I listen to today...but time is the ultimate decider of what lasts, and I can't think of a single piece of work from today that will be around 20 years from now. this song is another of Elton's that reaches my soul. God bless him and the joy he has given the world.
He is angel who is on the Earth
God the end of this song is just so incredibly perfect i have no words
I was very blessed to have witnessed this great performer sing this song in Philly last night and he sounds just as good today as did in1970.
A very early look at the greatness that was to follow.....Sir Elton John
This is music in it's pure form. Just incredible, moving beautiful melody.
Learn, kids, this is REAL music. ☝️
As well as a true musician with class.
Elton is a highly skilled musician and singer.Bernie's lyrics are incredibly rooted in his cultured nature.
This brings back great memories for me also. My friend Bob Wilisch, may he rest in peace, gave me this on an 8 track when we were in the ninth grade. This was a truly great album. He was a good friend too.
He was my hero - what talent, what a voice! Nobody comes near nowadays.
I had Tumbleweed Connection in the early 70s, this was my favorite song on the album.
That album, the most incredible thing I've ever heard! I love Elton with all my heart and soul!!!!
Me to Love all my Heart
Tumbleweed Connection is my favourite album. Burn Down The Mission is just one reason!!!!
This version is really great. Elton's the cutest cutie in cutie-town!
R.I.P Dee Murray!
Before Sir Elton John had cancer and lost his falsetto,,, "Elton John never let us down no matter what"
This guy is quite the best that I ever heard, his melody, lyrics and playing skills are amazing.
I was so grateful when I finaly got my reel to reel!
by far the best version of this great song, with just a trio you can really hear the piano.
One of my favorite videos of him. Quite possibly my favorite.
as a laura nyro fan i sure missed the boat to recognize that she was a great influence in his timing and style for this song. god bless laura, god bless elton. long live progressive rock and long live the interesting things that come out of different yet divergent modes of thought and intent of style and song.
One of my favorite songs... Elton does this wonderfully!
Gotta love that piano solo... Even before he was big, he was a legend! Rock on Elton!
It is great seeing this version of the song, obviously in its early stages before it was rearranged and recorded for 'Tumbleweed....".

My favorite Elton John Songs of all time. It's atmospheric, timeless, capturing anger at injustice beautifully.
I was there on May 29, 1971 at the Tumbleweed Connection concert in Miami. My first concert. And to this day it remains the best live experience I have ever had. Incredible.
awesome
Okay. I see and hear Leon Russell's influence in this video. Thanks for the recent tribute and collaboration, Elton.
tumbleweed connection is one of the best albums ever made
Tumbleweed Connection has got to be the best Elton album... hands down. Love this one, "Country Comfort", "Ballad of a Well-Known Gun." I could listen them all. Just a great album.
Love me some Elton John. I have seen him live 4 times. My first concert was seeing him at the Omni in Atlanta 1984.
Awesome song, awesome album...no trappings...no bling....just Elton, Bernie and the band
and the music
I love the outro where the credits are set against the piano. It's just cool.
Seeing Elton in the 70's on the Yellow Brick Road tour is a memory of a lifetime! He could bring it...
A very old, old favorite of mine from one of his best albums IMHO.
An amazing album, just bloody amazing.
He still does this song in concert...thank God...I love it.
Outstanding. I was in 6th grade when this awesome song came out. I'm with hitcharide all the way! Elton John and his team of artists: for real for real!
I've thought the same thing ever since I got the album in 1972. Thanks for saying it so well.
Now I just want to say " Hell Yeah"
Never heard him sing it like this.
...we're seeing the very roots of what became, through the years, a huge tree. God, what a set of pipes.
"Tumbleweed Connection" is Elton's best album in my opinion, and in the opinion of many fans all over. That album just flows seamlessly from start to finish.
Tumbleweed Connection is Eltons best album...one of the greatest of all time.
one of his best vocal performances
One of the few good things about a teenager was seeing Elton...
This whole album was fantastic! I love the old nes
This song is super awesome.
This has to be my favorite Elton John song. Great version.
Found this record (vinyl) at a thrift store in Port Aransas, Tx, and it's now one of the faves in my collection. Next to Johnny Winter's self titled.
Thank you Sir Elton for keeping it real!!!
I was 14 nearly 15 when I saw this trio early Jan 1971 being supported by Argent at the Hemel Hempstead Pavilion cost me 70 pence to get in. What a night, only the second gig I ever went to. I remember this song as being a lot longer and wilder than this.....
Always loved this Elton John song, among about everything he ever did.
He has the voice of an angel. At least in my heaven. :)
Just great, love this song..
One of my favorite EJ songs
It's a real pity how Elton lost this voice in the early 80's. I remember when I bought 11.17.70 and I already had three of his albums with this super tuned high-pitch voice... remember Empty Sky? wow!
Carlos Martinez. He didn't lose his voice, it just got deep. He could still sing in the 80's.
Love how he gives props to his crew.
I love Nigel in this...totally hamming it up for the camera. It's fun, also, to read the comments of the kids who have no idea about Elton John and are learning about him for the first time.

What glory is this!
early elton john is the best. I love his early stuff in the 70's
Tumbleweed Connection is such a wonderful album. His new one The Union with Leon Russell revisits his roots and is great
He had it right at this time of his career. The Lyrics are great.
WOW...I've been around for a while and I have never seen this video. Thanks for sharing this. Elton John has been one of my favorites for many years.
Classic Elton John. Awesome!
I'm in love with him when I watch this video.
Elton wasn't kidding about "the biggest drum kit in the world" and it's great see the audience finally catching fire at the end. Fantastic song, and WOW did Elton ever have a head of hair on him in the seventies!~ lol!
awesome I went through that space in time too
It was a little before this time Elton was a session musician - Mr Bloe's "Groovin with Mr Bloe" and The Hollies "He ain't heavy, hes my brother" were two tracks of many that featured his piano playing...
this is off tumbleweed connection, my personal fave of the gazillion great albums of elton john
He is very enticing here--vocals are wonderful. His appearance is interesting. very cute in an elfish sort of way. Love the hair and glasses and cute button nose
37 years ago, oh the mysteries of life.where did the time go.was i sleeping.some should have woke me up long ago
he's like "I am Elton, and I will now impact this tune, with my ivories", he is genius...
@CoyotePoet this was NOT a wig! Back in 1970, Elton had just turned 23yrs old in March...yes, this was his real hair at this time frame believe it or not! lol :)
Cool!!
April Wilson I noticed Elton John looked like he started balding in the 80's ...?
@@Souran123 Nah he started balding around 1975.
Sexuality don't matter to me this pure music. I'm 52 years old . they don't make it like this anymore.
Dude! This is like having 11-17-70 on video. About time!
I love that he's shy :3 it's so cute.
Awesome...thanks for sharing

Wonderful stuff, thanks for posting!
