We love the Horizon Hobby HobbyZone Carbon Cub S+ RTF RC plane so much, Abby wanted to do her own flight video! That's right, Abby wanted to fly it just for you guys. Although Abby has flight experience before, she has recently lost her rc plane flying confidence, and I think this plane is just what she needs to boost her confidence again.
Lets just say, if you've never flown an RC Plane before, you no longer have any reason not to. Happy Flying Friends :)

Hi RC Sailors, thanks for the videos on the Carbon Cub s+RTF. I bought the Carbon Cub a couple of weeks ago to have a go at flying rc planes. I took it down to the local park followed all the instructions and put it up in the air. What an amazing plane i left it in begginer mode and had a blast, i have flown it a couple of dozen times now and advanced out of noob mode and havent crashed at all. I would highly recomend this plane to any begginer to learn by them selves.

RcSaylors - Nate and Abby, thank you oh so much for your professionalism and down right enthusiasm of producing informative videos for the RC community.
I became immersed in the RC hobby in the mid 1970's flying an unknown glow fuel airframe with an Orbit 4CH analog on Green and White - 75.640 Mhz, at an RC airfield in Southern California, known as Mile Square Park.
Some time later I met a friend of my brother, Larry Jolly, who flew RC Gliders / Sailplanes & Helicopters. I'd pester Larry to allow me to tow his gliders aloft at Irvine Jr High, by peddling my bicycle as fast as I physically could towing a 100' line. Good times, great memories.
Through the exposure of the RC community, I joined the US Navy and flew as crew in Lockheed P-3 Orion's & Bell HH-1K Helicopters. I had the aviation bug coursing through my veins.
Years ago, I traded that Orbit TX/RX, along with a Honda ATC 90 and misc firearms for a Baja Bug. Thus began my 30 year venture into aircooled Volkswagens.
Fast forward to the present, I'm back and eager to return to the RC world. My how times have changed. I still have two sets of analog Futaba 2 & 4CH TX/RX's on Red/White and a Gentle Lady balsa wood glider. However, your video of the HobbyZone Carbon Cub S+ has inspired me to seriously consider this platform for my return to the RC community.
I have a 16 year old son who just earned the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. In addition, he is the Boatswain (senior youth leader) of his Sea Scout Ship. Through the RC community, I will attempt to introduce him to the fundamentals of flight. He has mentioned joining the US Coast Guard. If so, I will encourage him to seek a commission and pilot rescue helicopters. Semper Paratus is the Ethos of the USCG, and is a Latin phrase, meaning "Always ready".
I look forward to your future production of videos and evaluations of FPV and Fixed Wing with flight stabilization and OSD.
Tell then, Fair Winds and Following Seas.

Thumbs Up for Abby. Already Subscribed. I used to fly RC until I crashed my last plane and that was it. Many years ago and long before auto stabilization and foam wonders and GPS and Smart Batteries. Abby you have a great personal instructor lots of great plains ready to go. You're young and know all the basics. Just practice and listen to Nate. Keep flying and making videos. You guys have a great channel.

Nice job guys! That plane is fun, and great flying :) First time I flew one, it scared me to death when I hit the fence. We set it up in the parking lot, then walked up to the flight area, but didn't realize we had already logged out "home" position, so we hit the fence prematurely!
Only issue I had with this plane was the highly irregular setup, that DID work, but was probably the most frustrating thing I've done for a while...otherwise it's awesome!
    Good flying Abby!

We've purchased a couple of drones based on your reviews, and my kids have been very excited to fly whenever they can. This model looks like a great way to get them hooked on rc planes as well, and allow them to develop their piloting skills.
Thank you guys for always bringing honest reviews to us, and reviewing RCs designed for the experienced and beginners alike!

Abby makes it look easy to fly. good job! Bucket list for the Saylors, go for a ride in a full sized J-3, you will know the true meaning of fun and slow flying, tube and rag, wood and cables, a nice Franklen air cooled 4 cylinder up front, you will love it, she only holds 2, so the pilot can take up 1 at a time, find a local apt and see if you can catch a ride in one, they are that fun...

Abby, I have the same opinion on elevator trim as you. I always set it up so it's trimmed to glide hands off, and then add forward stick pressure as needed to eliminate the looping tendency when you add power. Then again I spend most of my flights with the throttle in the off position, so there's that. ;)

  • @royoetting502

Nice video. Don't chicken out Abby. I've noticed a bunch of aircraft from Hobby Zone with spoilers on the wing. They probably really help to prevent snapping and it looks like something to add to other planes. It might be a three D project for me.

I really think this plane is the best beginner plane out there as of year 2021. This plane is larger than the current front runner beginner model so it flies better in the wind versus that current contender that seems to weigh a little more than a wristwatch. And once your confidence builds, you have a plane that can do all the neat stuff because it is larger, heavier, and flies like it has a sense of purpose. This is, of course, my personal opinion and we all know about opinions.

Just watched this video of Aby's review of the carbon cub and I probably have the same low confidence when it comes to flying rc planes because I've owned 2 cub sport s's , I've crashed one and reglued it multiple times and the second one I lost in the wind never to be seen again! Aby makes this Carbon Cub look fun and easy to fly and you've inspired me to order one for myself, thanks! BTW, love your channel guys. You two have great chemistry and you guys make a great couple! Keep making great RC videos!

This is always the highlight of my day.
It looks great in the air. In beginner mode, it moves slow enough to be mistaken for a full scale one. The added bonus of its capabilities in the other modes, I think it’s a bargain.
It’s also nice to see how well you’re coming along, Abby. Just as a heads up, you seem to shine a bit brighter when you’re out of your comfort zone. Nathan is correct, you can do it. Good on him for encouraging you! Great loop!

Our flying club is on the North end of Utah Lake. In our region we have some bush pilots called the Flying Cowboys. I think Cory Robin came up with the name. Corey has the real Carbon Cub which he flies on his UA-cam channel. You are flying one today! Twin brothers Mike and Mark Patey in Spanish Fork build all manner of aircraft with incredible performance and engineering. Draco, Mike's prize aircraft was destroyed in a freak takeoff accident, no one hurt. Scrappy is his latest build project made from recycled aircraft parts around a Cub airframe all heavily modified to the extreme. Draco was a 3600lb aircraft that could get airborne in 106ft and land in 102ft. Scrappy is going to perform better than that. And let's not forget Trent Palmer, a professional drone pilot who flies a modified Kit Fox called the Freedom Fox. Flite Test collaborated with Trent to model the Freedom Fox and give it flight characteristics that make the RC model fly just like Trent's aircraft. I can hardly wait for your review of that plane.

If I had a place to fly a plane this would definitely be on my want list. Not only because it is beginner friendly, but also because it looks realistic. I've seen a lot of planes that fly well, but don't really look like a real airplane. With R/C trucks I consider myself a "scaler"; I want my trucks to look realistic, and I try to drive them in a realistic way. If I were to get an R/C plane I would be the same way, I would want it to look and fly realistic. This one does that.

The Cub can be a difficult radio setup on model HBZ3200 with LSI, Flaps, and GPS installed. 3 months and yet to fly. Yours must be the HBZ3250 ready to fly. Your explanations are great. Try a video on radio setup for this plane. I watch you all the time.

Hey guys thanks for the videos, I wanted to get into this hobby.and I watched several of your videos. And in July of this year bought this exact plane. Flying in mins landings not so good but tight take off and landing spaces. I broke a prop in the air , cut throttle and glided for 3 mins and circled down in beginner mode to a half safe landing .but plane is very.tough about 40 flights now one three landing from a big gust of wind one fence post hit,and several bounces and plane still great shape. But glad to see real people flying this plane already gearing up for next plane but love flying this one did my first loop was not as smooth as hers but I'll take it . Keep the great videos coming. Great video! I actually liked this one better than the first - more of the Cub in its natural habitat, lazily cruising around. Looks good!
That nose-over landing was nothing to worry about. When FliteTest reviewed the Cub’s predecessor, the Sportsman S+, they had their own oopsie moment where they found out auto-landing after a hand launch wasn’t the best of ideas. Fortunately, no harm done when it “landed” a little high and gravity took over. 😬

Nice video. I really like the plane. I am quite a beginner in RC planes. I am flying a XK520 VTOL plane to practice and it is a lot fun. I was wondering if you would recommend this plane as my next plane and if I should get it with flaps or without flaps? Thanks again.

Can you guys do a detailed explanation on how to calibrate and setup GPS system? How to calibrate, how to set geo fence. How to activate holding pattern & auto land and especially how to deactivate in flight.

I have this plane but I have a problem that it's always fine by itself how do you turn off GPS or is it simply a function of getting out of the beginner mode in at into expert mode how do you do this?

The included istructions take you step by step, very well if I might add, as to how to turn off the GPS function. Looks pretty easy :-)
