Seeing an in-depth review/critique of a old childhood game is surprising bit of nostalgic goodness. Sure, you're also ripping it to pieces, but I admit I've got to respect the effort it took for you to get the game running properly. Also because I never knew there were Code Geass costumes or realized how much Asbel, Sophie, and Richard have similarities with Suzaku, CC, and Lelouch. I'm enjoying this deep-dive, and even though I never finished Graces(got distracted with side quests on the final dungeon, put it down for a couple of months, and forgot how to play once I did try to finish it) and Graces is the only Tales game I did play, I am looking forward to the rest of this review.
ironically the trails series by falcom does a variation of the grad system but is much simpler by just giving you 5 points in the original release to spend however you want to unlock bonuses for your next playthrough, incentivizing replayability, with the needed amount of playthroughs going down between the jump from ps3/vita versions of the first two erabonia games and their ps4 versions, I'm in the middle of my second cold steel 1 playthrough but because i played on the vita it just felt so arduous that i keep having a hard time going back to it, despite how much i fell in love with zemuria's world and lore
Trails series reminds me on how it succeeds on most of the tropes Tales of tries to do. the Characters and lore are so much better than most of Tales of imo, but I also love Tales of series even if some entries aren't the best in quality.
@@timidalchemist8475 Unfortunately or fortunately, The Trails games-unlike the Tales games-are all connected in universe meaning to get the full story, you need to start/play through the whole series instead of just picking up a single one and having fun with it. Slogging through Trails in the Sky right now after I stopped halfway through Cold Steel 2.
I respect the effort it took to get the game running with the undub mod….. lucky for me I won’t be going through a task like that when I get my hands on the remaster cuz I’d rather not pull my hair out and because I actually like the English dub cast in the game. Yes, even Bryce Papenbrook, he’s a great VA and I’m tired of pretending he’s not. It neat these characters in Japanese have these actor allusions to other characters they’ve voiced, but I’m gonna be honest, I couldn’t care less. Like, yeah, it’s a neat detail that these characters are purposefully voiced by actors who play characters that are meant to be direct parallels to each other, but that kind of deep cut reference just doesn’t matter to me. Like, yeah it’s cool Joker from Persona 5 is played by Lelouch’s Japanese VA to tie into the fact that he’s a freedom fighter and devious leader to these people who have been wronged by the system…. But I’m still gonna play the game in English anyway, that’s just my personal preference. I’m also glad you won’t be doing a full review of Tales of Symphonia cuz that’s a favorite game of mine and would rather not pull my hair out at a lot of the takes you’ll have for it, especially the take that Lloyd is blamed for a lot of the game’s events and Llyod and Collette’s relationship. Glad we’re in agreement with Sheena being best girl though.
I do NOT know why people dislike this game. I found it tô be near perfection. I had no problems playing the game and I emulated in my Ps3. It was amazing. I didnt even finished Véspera back then and I never actually liked Symphonia due to I already played the World games for PSP and that was almost as Symphonia in gameplay (barren and grinding). Tales of Graces is the only game until this day that I always gofor the ramdom encounters, since there is no SP to maintain, I gone crazy! I always tried todo new things with every character, not only to grind new titles for new skills but because I was always finding new combos with the party members. I loved so much to go beyond 100 with asbel, Cheria and Malik against the dragons, I was mesmerized of how good you can become. My only problem is the Eleth System.. if you retry a boss fight, it resets instead of maintain the level you already had before the fight.

i am looking forward to this because it's the only ps3 tales game i couldn't get nor find before my ps3 went kaput. side note i did not realize tiger and bunny were in tales of the rays (they're the bottom middle characters in that image you showed)
Story remembers of the movie IT'...THINK about it all the characters start off as kids and encounter a mysterious monster that they kill off? but then later it comes back... THERE are differences but the plot is mostly the same.
Knowing that this is a Tales Of Game. I’m wondering Shinta, did you play this yourself, or did you get someone else to?! Cause If I remember Correctly, your hands and fingers do hurt when playing action games. I do remember hearing this when you discussed DMC series and Wonderful 101.
I mean everyone has their favorites in the series. I have played and finished most of all released in america from Legendia onward(minus the portable ones and Zesteria). I do love Berseria the most. I did think symphonia is just ok but that my be just because of my tastes. Returning to the subject. I played this when it came out I hated Aston for all this, but I may have skiped or didn't pay attention to the brother death, now I hate him even more. NO WONDER YOU CAN SKIP THE CHILDHOOD ARC.
Not liking Ahston is fine. but this is a very bad take dude. implying that he got rid of Hubert to make Asbel listen is wildly and willfully ignoring the text. Hubert is the second born son. he would have ended up with nothing. remembering what happened with his own brother, he didn't want strife between them over successorship, and that was their father that banished him not Ahston. so, he thought giving Hubert an opportunity to inherit someone else's lands and power would be good for him. it still ended up being a bad call but don't change the intent. he DEFINATELY made bad choices. but NONE of it was malicious. but yes, he needed to open his damn mouth to more than his wife. and also, the Stockholm syndrome arguments for her are a bit of a stretch too. you had me and were making good points till you said that and the Hubert parts. pointing out his mistakes is valid but jeez.
@@danielramsey6141 I literally did not say he wasn't. Most of Ashton's decisions did not work out well. It's plain as day. Including making Hubert an Oswell. The only reason that kinda ended up ok is because the boys reconcile on their own. But they still end up fighting which is exactly what he didn't want.

Yeah that’s just how tales of games work on RPCS3 before I got PKGI to work on my ps3 I tried emulating it on my PC And Shinta I had the same experience that your having with tales of Grace Also.. have a good one Shinta :)

While I do love Tales series Graces f is one of games in series that I am not that fond of compared to likes of Abyss, Xillia 1 and Berseria.
