The Bay Area has way better transit options than LA/OC. Don’t even pretend that it is comparable: you can get out of your car in Bay Area, and bike / ebike, take Caltrain / BART. Also Caltrain just got electrified and faster! OC has no connection running along the coast, there is a really slow train running inland.
They could convert the 55 freeway into a parking lot near Costa Mesa. It already serves as such. What a horrible planning to end the freeway just before the densest set of traffic lights. 55 should have no business in Costa Mesa. If anything it brings more noise and pollution to Costa Mesa residents. You want to rely on trains and separated transit from other single occupant traffic if you want a sustainable convenience. Orange County does not understand transit.
Costa mesa has lots of traffic. I lived there in late 80s
