Zeus' Revenge on Humanity - Pandora's box
Zeus creates a cunning plot to restore the balance that Prometheus upset when he gave fire to humans. This tale is told by Zeus himself, as he weaves a web that will be humanities undoing.
For this plot, Pandora is made. She tells her tale from her perspective, and what could have led her to opening the infamous box of legend.
Living Mythology is an attempt to entertain, relax and educate all in the one place. We are trying to forge narratives so that people can experience the religions and mythologies of the world as they were meant to be. Not as dry academic monoliths, but as living breathing tales and parables as experienced by the peoples who worshipped these beings, in an attempt to make sense of their own lives and the world around them.
This channel is in its infancy, so we hope to improve and develop it as we gain more experience.
All of the tales are taken from very conflicting traditions across many centuries, so there will be many a moment when decisions need to be made to create a more cohesive narrative. If we present something that seems to be in contrast to details, rest assured we have researched many forms of the traditions and come to the conclusions we have done to form the videos.
There will NEVER be total agreement on any of these narratives due to the history and differing ways they developed over the centuries.
These videos are for entertainment and an easy gateway to the subject. If you wish more academic details then please direct your attention to the wide source material and others who perform those types of academic video essays.

Do you think the "fire" is the pendant to the apple of knowledge in the Bible?
I often also like to find traces of the older Sumerian texts and myths in Greek mythos.
This episode is indeed present in Sumerian myth but quite different, as both the first made "a-damu" and his female counterpart ( made from his genes btw) were already born and residing in the "eden" or as I call it, the garden of the genetic lab where they were created.
I think Enki is the source for Prometeus

Though I feel oddly, that Dionysus existing before the punishment of mankind, is somehow out of order.

That's understandable as some versions of Greek mythology, for example Hesiod, decree that Pandora is the very first woman, and all women stem from her.
But he also wrote that ''Zeus who thunders on high made women to be an evil to mortal men, with a nature to do evil.'' - which is around line 560 in his theogony, it felt kind of horrible to go with this version of events. For it makes Pandora, and therefore all women inherently evil. Pandora here, is just one woman. Like some of the other versions of this myth.
As Dionysus is born of a mortal woman he is often placed before the punishment.
However, it is Dionysus who brings Hephaestus back to Olympus - and it is Hephaestus who makes the original clay form of Pandora.
There are far more references to Dionysus bringing Hephaestus home, it is a far more famous image. Seen in all sorts of ancient greek art works.
Unfortunately, sometimes making a chronology of myths that had multiple versions of events, or numerous myths with no solid agreed upon canon, can become entirely contradictory. And choices must be made.
We hope you enjoyed none the less! I hope this explains things a bit too.

I have to say, one thing find myself frustrated with (in a good way) is how you are able to make me sympathize with the gods in one moment, and then despise them in the next. Your videos have made me respect and even like the gods. But after this story, I have to say I hate their guts. Cheering and laughing as they plot to ruin the lives of beings far lesser than themselves for crimes outside of their control. There was no attempt to provide guidance, and no teaching moment. They went straight for punishment and cruelty. Pandora and humanity didn't deserve the curses of the gods.
A job well done to all of you!

The fact that you can almost feel the gods described around you during and after these videos is outstanding. Im loving the Greek myths as i did not know overmuch of them before. Though i must admit i am curious to hear Lightbringer and Baldermort as several of the norse Gods. I would also enjoy seeing how you deferentiat Odin/Freya from Zues/Hera. As it seems to me Odin and Zues would be quite similar, save Odin being more war-like and perhaps more patient (He is the All seeing, All Knowing All-Father after all). Fantastic work as always you two. My regards to Editing boy for the superb image choice too. You must keep him in that cellar for weeks, working on these. 😂

I for one refuse to take responsibility for others around me and I am a sovereign being and love me some me even if I am hated by the world for I know myself my heart and my intentions are good for all who walk the Earth it is my hope that we can all get past our differences and come together as one being of light and have all live the most important rule of all that is why it is golden! It sums up every commandment ever given if only done in truth from the heart!

In another version I read, all the gods indeed gave her a gift hence her name:
Hephaestus created her from clay with Aphrodite as the model.
    Zeus breathed life into her.
Hestia taught her how to cook and keep house.
Demeter taught her how to farm and tend to a garden.
Athena taught her crafts like weaving and sewing.
Apollo taught her to play music and sing
Both Ares and Artemis taught her how to defend herself from attention from wild animals and unwanted suitors.
Poseidon gave her a necklace and promised that she would never drown
Aphrodite taught her the arts of seduction, flirting and how to "keep" her husband (wink wink)
    Hera gave her curiosity.
And Hermes gave her the box and in his usual teasing fashion, warned her to never open it.

Fascinating! I would love to read this version - I found some lists but none this properly detailed, what source is this?
Thank you for watching and commenting - it helps us a lot and I love to read people's thoughts or learn more about the myths!

@@livingmythology1405 sadly it is a book I borrowed from the library...one of the many that you can found that "rewrites" the myths to catered to young readers. So it is not straight from a source like Homer, Ovid or Virgil.

Zeus had it correct, humans couldn't handle the destructive nature of fire. Still can't. Fire is what brought about the Atomic bomb which will end all of us sooner or later.
