The only thing is 3300 for a one pickup guitar. I understand the care it took to build this quality guitar and is probably better the Gibson
For me I would rather take a cheaper guitar and modify it to my liking. I had the Jackson Rhoads I loved it
      And I do love V's . But I can't afford a 1000 dollar and up Guitar.
I've got cheap Guitars which were or are bargain guitars and I make them to play for me. I'm not downing your review. The guitar is brilliant.
But to expensive for my taste.

100% dude. Every guitarist have a good luthier they can call. I buy/sell/trade like crazy and I wouldn't have any of my guitars if not for him.
I had him build a ⅞ warmoth(24 frets/24¾" scale) guitar for me. The wood, hardware, and PUs are all top notch, but I think my luthiers special touch is what made it shine... he used the best wiring, 11$ a piece Russian military grade capacitors, his own technique he created for the fretwork. I spent around $2200 on it and it 100% feels/plays like $2200 guitar.
He's definitely not your average aspiring luthier. Dude's been in game for decades now. The late great Walter Becker owned 17 of his guitars and were his favorite. Dan Vickery prefers his guitars as well.

I got into basic repair/setup work for a while, was working at guitar center for a bit (that's a whole other story). Repeatedly I'd have to correct customers asking "are you the luthier?" , even with a physics degree and considering myself knowledgeable with guitars I knew calling myself a luthier would be simply naive.

Well, as a luthier for over 4 decades, it used to be so, most of us wouldn't dare make a substandard instrument, especially in structure and function, as looks are subjective, but now everyone and their dog is calling themselves a luthier, often before they have a clue what they are doing! The number of times someone brings me some "Luthier" made to order and very expensive abomination with problems so bad, by the time I could straighten the thing out and make it a worth while instrument, the price would tripple, is becoming common. It's also compounded because people do not stand up for themselves and demand things are fixed right, they get the specs they asked for, refunds, or even drag them to court over it if need be like people used to, they get away with it and screw more people!
If someone doesn't have a website with comprehensive information you can view at your leisure, but rather mingles their business with their personal FaceBook page, or twitter... (Very unprofessional), where it's all hype and no substance, doesn't offer anything in writing that's detailed and binding, including how they will deal with any issues... and give you copies, be very very careful, because what anyone says, including themselves in conversation is no substitute and pretty much unenforceable! And never trust anyone on platforms, like this one where they can delete comments, block users at will... because you will not get a clear picture, only the one they want to paint!
If they brag about having made guitars for this that and the other well known to famous players, don't see it as a positive, as musicians are not luthiers, and often get the stuff at low cost or even free just for the name dropping privilege, but rather go look and see if those cats mention and show the instrument preferably look for videos of them actually using it routinely... because if all that is missing which it is quite often, or the prices are really great, then there are normally good reasons: Their instruments suck! I am a big King Crimson fan, and have met and hung out with them more than once, and I have never heard him talk about, nor ever seen him play the guitar the owner Ben of "Crimson Custom Guitars" built for him, and yet he built his entire business on it! I have watched several videos where he botches all kinds of stuff, and jumps recklessly into a build without having thought any of it through only to find out the hard way that he approached shit wrong... and he can afford to, because there are plenty of fools who fall for the visuals who throw money at him in blind faith! He's not the only UA-cam Luthier who doesn't have the knowledge or skills to back up the popularity of their channel!
The product speaks more than words, so unless you can get your hands on one, better yet at least a few examples and especially feel and play them with as low an action as it gets so you can asses feel and function cannot be fooled into a terrible fret job, then stay away! "All it needs is a setup", is a dead giveaway it most likely won't be possible!
If you want custom made to order, put all of the details in writing, respecting also what they tell you they can and cannot do, what can and cannot be done, or should and should not be done, as any self respecting luthier will do and deliver, so you know what you are supposed to be getting and the more of it in real numbers that can be measured, and clear unambiguous text, the better, because you will need it to protect your best interest! If you have to pay for anything upfront, make sure they give you a warranty, and for things like hardware, pickups... that can easily be returned make sure you take possession of their packaging and warranties, and if they purchase them, make sure they filled in the notes on the order page they are in your name, and they are only an intermediary, so you can return them if they go awol! For any materials they use like woods those may not be recoverable, and you shouldn't pay up front for anything but stuff made by reputable companies, nor ever pay for labor up front, because if you don't, they have no incentive to get it done in a timely manner, nor get it right, and again it limits your ability to recover in cases of dispute. No self respecting, luthier confident they can deliver, will charge you up front, not even for woods unless they guaranty a full refund if they mess up! I heard of one who F'd up a $300 piece of buckeye burl, and had the audacity to tell the customer they had to pay for another one or else he wouldn't proceed!

      @Bob-of-Zoid Рік тому +4

@@kiezersosay49 So what you are saying he sold you a bunch of snake oil, like the circuit, used a neck he didn't make himself, that already comes with an excellent fret job and voided it's warranty by messing with it and did so with a bogus and rediculous "Special secret technique that cannot possibly matter as long as the fret job is good AND STAYS THAT WAY" Many so called luthiers have no clue how stainless steel, or brass Alloy's (Jesco Evo) fret wire must be handled! If they are good today, just wait anywhere from a month to a year after it acclimates!
I would love to know who your Luthier is as you strangely didn't give us a name so we can see for ourselves and check your claims. I want to know in case one of his guitars ends up in my shop to straighten out all the stuff that was done wrong, fell apart, or didn't stand the test of time... Read my above reply.
In addition, I studied electrical engineering and the "$11 ea, Military grade Russian capacitors" cannot and will not do anything any $2 to $3 caps won't do! It's absolute bullshit! As long as they are not the flat disc ceramic type ($0.02 to $0.05 each), because those can fluctuate in value with temperature changes (Hot stage lights, Cold fall outdoor concert) any cap will do the exact same thing and no amount of snake oil can overcome the laws of physics!
If you got a good guitar at what you think is a good price (I have no way of seeing it) then great, but it may have costed less, if it weren't for all of the snake oil which you probably paid quite a bit extra for and got none of the supposed advantages but the placebo effect!

Just picked up a new Jackson Rhoads during the Independence Day sales. The fit and finish is flawless, setting it up today including the FR. It's better than I expected for a guitar that sells for US $849 before any sales discounts.
Over the last few years, I've sold several of my more expensive guitars, and purchased even more guitars in the $300 - $1500 range, and none have disappointed me.
My least expensive was $280, hardtail, bolt-on neck, that is nearly flawless, IIRC I had to adjust the intonation on 2-3 strings and with a string change it was ready to play.
It's your money, buy what you want. I buy gear I dig and use, not to impress friends, family or randoms.

I checked out their website, and I have to say I was pretty surprised at the price point. They were less expensive than I had expected based upon the custom work and number of hours that goes into each one.

That guitar is gorgeous. It's immensely heartening to see you buy something that you really love primarily just for that reason. Versatile and reliable studio tools are great, including workhorse great value guitars, but somewhere in there, it's important to have something that you enjoy because you just love it. Congratulations on your new axe and well deserved!

That is one beautiful guitar, Glenn. Tip of the hat to Goran for such a work of art. I really like this storytelling form of video... Beats the hell out of the usual unboxing and demo video. Of course, not every guitar or piece of gear has an interesting story behind it but when possible, sure, I'd like to see more of this style.

I understand your excitement. I ordered a custom bass about 6 months ago. a close copy of Justin chancellors Wal MK2. He's even making the multi coil pickups by hand! just seeing some pictures of the book matched bird's-eye maple top and quilt maple back got me so excited. It's finally becoming real.

Holy 💩 !!! Those are seriously some of the coolest guitars I've ever seen in my life. Those are absolutely stunning, and the flying V is actually perhaps my least favorite design. I would gladly, badly play the hell out of that thing. That is some of the most beautiful work I've ever seen. Absolutely outstanding.

Sure lots of guitars that could compete with a Gibson, however I still love Gibson guitars and they have a great legacy. Maybe a few bad bumps in the road but that can happen to any company that lasts as long as Gibson has. That said, these are certainly great looking V's!
