A few take-aways:
1. Plugging a pedalboard worth a midsized car into a cheap-ass micro cube is dope
2. The drop, while being possibly the most budget pedal on your board, stayed with you for years.
3. Video Production is topshelf as always 👌
Thanks! Are you the Schmidt in Schmidt Array? 🤔
@@LivingroomGearDemos Maybe. Maybe not ...
@@silvioschmidt5346 imma say a big , NOT!
The drop is an unbelievable pedal though. I have it as part of the whammy DT but Id say I use the drop very regularly and the whammy itself very rarely.
unlike most of the pedals out there, as of today, there's NOTHING to replace what the Drop does though!
Wow that's drive heaven on this board ! I would to probably something like that for studio use only, well done
Super cool board! Great sounds and it looks great too
Fuzzrocious 420 fuzz is absolutely surpreme!! Wish I still had mine!
Sounds so great - I cannot believe this sound is coming through that tiny little cube!
Haha, I only used that for the sound test. I'm using the REVV D20 for the proper test
Loving the Pre amp Mk2!
It’s already nudged a few of my older pedals off the board. Not just because it’s massive, but because it covers so much of the same ground.
Too many pedals = option paralysis for me. With a midi switcher and an expression pedal, I can do so much with it...but...it’s not leaving the studio. That’s what my other pedals are for.
Hey! Kudos lad. Do you. Always. Loved it. Awesome sounds you've found. Inspirational. Wow! Thank you.
Love the channel. You're a great host and a great reviewer. And a great guitarist!
Thanks!
I enjoyed your video... the trials and tribulations we go through to get the sounds we hear in our heads! The struggle is real! ✌🏼
Thanks!
The Automatone has me in a bit of a quandry. From a live perspective the advantage it offers is that you could conceivably set-up a whole range of boosts, ODs, Fuzzes and EQ's within the one unit. The only thing though, is to randomly access those settings quickly live, the way you can stepping on individual pedals, you need midi otherwise you're stuck scrollling/cycling. When you add a midi controller of course you're looking at more expense and more board real estate.
As a studio tool it would also offer amazing flexibility with access to all those EQ/Clipping options on the desktop with sliders at your fingertips. In the studio though, I tend to use amps as my drive tones and you typically have a lot of great EQ options in either plugs or actual desk/hardware outboard on hand.
Very true. Personally, I wouldn't consider it if I wasn't already using an Empress Zoia with a midi controller. I'd end up just replacing my gain and EQ pedals with the mk II, and downsize to a smaller board in the process.
Yeah, that's totally fair. I do think people sometimes get tripped up with the number of options and may forget about how it's actually going to be used. Obviously everybody has different need out of a drive pedal, so this is just an example of how I use it:
I don't ever use more than three drive sounds in any given sound. Clean on the edge of breakup from the amp as well as medium and higher gain sounds from the Automatone. The Automatone is soooo incredibly pick sensitive that those sounds give me such a huge range of drive sounds depending on setting and pick attack.
So if you just use a couple/few settings for any given song, I think it works great. Especially with the banks/jump options. Taking advantage of those gets me 6 different sets of drive sounds:
Bank 1a: Preset 0, Preset 1 (Jump to 0)
Bank 1b: Preset 5, Preset 6 (Jump to 5)
Bank 2a: Preset 0, Preset 1 (Jump to 0)
and so on...
Does that make sense?
Having three drive options per song (amp and two drives from Automatone) is plenty for the music I play. Having six different options for any given song is even better. So even if I'm using "only" 12 out of 30 available drive sounds in a live-type scenario, I still feel like I'm getting a lot of use out of the pedal. Again, that's just how I use it. Add that to it being an *incredible* studio tool, like you said, I feel like it was a great, though admittedly *very* expensive investment.
@@HomoChomsky For sure. For someone already using MIDI it makes total sense.
@@matthewizen So typically I run a Timmy as a chime/crunch (think Tom Pettyish) sort of rhythm sound, another OD set as a more fat crunch and, I'll post boost either of those with a clean boost for solos depending on the song. The clean boost also gets used on its own for clean solos or parts I want to get to jump a little. There are of course shades of all of these with guitar volume adjustment, pick or no pick etc.
Obviously with the Automatone you could simply save two versions of each OD tone with different volume levels to do the OD+Boost thing I'm doing, and have a separate clean boost setting too. I'm not quite sure I get though how uyou could go straight from one present to another without midi. From what you're saying you can jump to a present per bank but wouldn't I still have to cycle through potentially three sounds to get to the one I want?
Grant Ferstat Yeah. Jumping between more than a couple sounds means cycling through. Without MIDI, your set up is more versatile because you have independent control over three(?) different pedals. If you have three sounds set up on the Automatone (say chime, crunch, and lead on presets 0, 1, and 2...and you have 2 set to Jump to 0), you’d have to double tap the preset switch to go from chime to lead, crunch to chime, or lead to crunch. Does that make sense?
To be fair, I don’t know of many overdrive pedals (save having multiple like you do) that allow immediate access to more than two or three sounds (thinking of Brothers and Sunset but I still think your set up is more versatile because you have independent control over three separate sounds).
To your original comment, it’s definitely a quandary. So many factors make it that way:
1. it’s the best sounding drive pedal over ever played/heard
2. it’s expensive
3. it’s capable of doing so much more than other drive pedals
4. taking advantage of all of those capabilities takes midi...
Thinking about it... another option would be to use an expression pedal. That way you get two sounds out of each preset. Just a thought. I’m definitely not here to convince you one way or another. Just hopefully answering questions and offering useful information. Please let me know if you have any other questions.
Have a great day!
Hyper cool board Sir that vol/ tuner is wicked cool
yeah I love it!
I totally feel you on really hating when stuff like that happens. Being so close is sometimes worse than not at all! Haha
Sick video, thanks for showing us your process!
Great 'board, and excellent video production quality.
Many thanks!
Looks great, fun vid!!
Thanks!
Man I love the background music in this.
Thanks, I made it using this board :)
man your drive section is killer! :)
It is indeed! Some different toanz to choose from
Great board. Im actually thinking about selling my vintage silver jubilee and get a helix stomp
Love the tone around 8min
You see, this is why I’m happy with my GT-1000.
This is one cool board!!! Now to pedal boards and looking for something cool like this just a lil smaller “bass player “ lol
I love how your like building it for like 15 days in all different places.. lol.. setting up pedalboards is like science.
Queens of the stone age tone sounded GREAT
Damn! That's a really cool board. And it sounded great. Also loved your video (and audio) quality. What camera/lighting are you using? I have just started my channel and want to produce better looking content. Thanks (and subscribed).
Thanks! I used mostly natural lighting in this video, but I also use the Aputure 300D a lot.
How do you like the daily driver? What would you compare it to? Keep up the good work. Love your channel!
I dig it. Check my demo of it, I talk about it at the en of the video.
I have an hx stomp but my other pedals are connected to effects loop of HX, is it fine to do it this way?
No switcher...that’s crazy man. Great video!
Never needed one. Tap dance all the way
...but it’s so comfortable 🤓
@@LivingroomGearDemos What about the pedals under the lid?
@@Superstacco curious about this is well.. 🤔
Nice video !!!...
Which cab sim of two notes do you use on your REVV D20 ?
Thanks !!
Very nice video thank you
Thanks!!
so how are you supposed to et the phaser and reverb underneath without a switcher?
Would love to know the signal chain to this rig. Sounds awesome!!
4:19
What model board is this? Thanks, great vid but couldn't see any info on the board size
This is fantastic! What do you use the HX Stomp mainly for?
I use it for everything. Often subtle reverb and delay in front of amp. But I also use the amp sims going direct to my interface. I’ve even used it as an interface, and I’ve recorded guitars directly into Logic from it.
which board is that been looking to get a sa350 but your size looks just right
Excuse me while I clean up my drool.. 🤘
Hehe I said yes on your instagram poll
💪🏻
hello goodnight. The pedalboard is very beautiful.
I would like to know: does the bottom (floor) of the pedalboard have a slight upward slope, in relation to the front and back? or is it flat? thanks.
7:08 that's niiiice
Samuel Jett some tame impala there
The board looks and sounds awesome! Do you think the HX Stomp would be as good a choice as a Strymon Flint to use only for Spring Reverb and Tremolo with a real tube amp? (I own the Stomp and use it for it's modeling capabilities and I love it but I'm not sure if used only for Reverb/Tremolo with a real amp the Flint would be a significant step up or if I just save my money for something else)
Depends on what situation. Live, I would only use the Stomp. But for a recording session I would consider the Flint
@@LivingroomGearDemos Thanks! I'm not playing live so I'll be using it only for recording purposes. So, I guess it is worth saving some cash for a Flint...
Excellent hobby! Is there room on stage in the pub for it? Or does it stay on bedroom floor😁
Why is it a hobby, why do I play small pubs and why should it stay on the bedroom floor 😁
cool! but why is the preamp mk2 so late in the chain? isnt a preamp normally supposed to be pretty early in chain?
Do you have noise issues with your digitech drop? I tried to use it in the same power supply(voodoo labs iso 5) and just get hiss and noise. I tried changing cables and what not but no dice. I power it separately with a one spot.
Nope, never had. Sounds like a faulty unit
Got it togedder
Sweet board! I don't think my pedals would all fit in a Schmidt array though! My Aux boards certainly could though!
You could always get a bigger one ;)
I had the Pedal Train terra and it was full not one fraction of space and everything went into the Schmidt array 900 and even with the lid was 1/3 lighter than the pedaltrain in its box .
How do you get things so neat? I running a Cioks DC-7 and DC-8 but my cords are a mess compared to yours.
Zip ties and Clip Brackets!
What is a model and where can I get it,
Thanks
Is it not a pain to have the phase shifter under the deck? I wouldn't have thought it would be an 'always on' pedal
Nope. I forgot to mention that this board will be used in the studio, not live. I use it to write and record music. I don't use the phase shifter that often, so it's not a problem to access it under the deck ;)
Do you have buffering? If so where in your signal chain?
I didn't find it necessary, BUT one or more of the pedals might be buffered. Maybe the VP is doing the jobb for me
Yeah Still really don't know how to get started with pedals but that was very cool
You get started with pedals by buying one when you have some extra money. Then you keep doing that forever. It's that easy!
@@jonathanlundquist5845 lol this^
what were you using at 7:10? im assuming it was a combination of pedals but how could i get that?
Phaser, reverb, compressor, daily driver then HX Stomp with slapback delay and vibrato.
Kevin Parker wants to know your location
Exactly what pedals are you using from about 7:11 - 8:00? (not counting the fuzz or the whammy) Such a cool retro vibe.
Starts out with a phaser, reverb, compressor, drive, slapback delay and then vibrato. Delay and vibrato is on the HX Stomp.
@@LivingroomGearDemos Thanks! I'll mess with those things. But this sounds like it might be exclusive to your pedalboard combinations though. It's a very very cool sound!
How much does it weigh?
K&H tube distortion and a Cry Baby wah is all I need.
How do you turn on/off the Holy Grail and Bad Stone if they are under the deck?
I use this pedal in a studio setting only, so I just lift up the deck and turn them on/off.
Maybe I missed something, but are you using the HX instead of an amp?
Nope
Nice music in background
thanks!
Just did my board on db3 had no sound, then found one pedal on zero volume....
On a scale of 1 to Fender Twin, how heavy is all of that?
hah, not too bad actually.
So are the pedals under the board “always on” pedals?
Only the Unit67. The board will be used in the studio most of the time, so I don't need the phaser and pre-od reverb easily available.
Living Room Gear Demos ah! I was looking for a loop pedal to access the phaser and holy grail... now it makes sense!
where did you buy the colored jack nuts?
The ones on the side? I think it came with the schmidt array board
song at 7:31??
Sorry if I missed you saying it, but what schmidt array model is this?
I have a Schmidt Array board too. It’s expensive but the best gear purchase I ever made. Highly recommended! However, I did not like the patchbay, felt it sucked quite a bit of tone, so I just bypass it. Nice video and congrats on the board. May I ask you how you attached the DC7 under the lid? Did you use velcro or some kind of mounting system?
Thanks! Dual lock
Which Schmidt Array pedalboard was this? Thanks!
SA600w!
Are u considering a switcher? Or is this more for studio purposes?
P/s- u've made me GAS hard on that digitech ricochet
No, not really, but it's for studio use yeah. Ricochet is cool!
Living Room Gear Demos no offence intended, but a 13 pedal board with no loop switching so that your signal always goes through all of the pedals whether they are on or not doesn’t really meet the criteria for best pedalboard I’ve ever seen for me. I do love the Schmidt Array board though and the Automatone looks and sounds great.
@@davidburke2132 haha, but the title says "I've ever seen". That's me! In all respect though, this is all about preferences. Yes, if you want we/dry/wet rigs with effects loop and Suhr guitars this isn't the best. But I'm pretty far away from that playing wise and with my taste in music.
Living Room Gear Demos I really didn’t mean any offence... just saying that with so many pedals a loop switcher of some kind is a really good idea so that your signal isn’t going through all the pedals all the time. With so many pedals you’re either getting some level of signal degradation or if some or all of those pedals have always-on buffers they will be affecting the tone and performance of other pedals after them in the chain... or possibly a combination of both of those things. That’s the same whether you’re playing a Squier or a Suhr. Good pedalboard practise is good pedalboard practise.
Yassssss
💀
Interesting board, but that Line 6 multi effect stomp thing is begging for a midi controller.
That s what I thought aswell . But very good board overall
7:10 Endors Toi vibe
Thoughts on the Daily Driver?
Love it. Watch my demo, I talk about it at the end of the video:(
Oops wrong smiley, I meant :)
I recently switched to dual lock, you need a lot less and it’s easier to keep your pedals straight.
I use a combo of dual lock and regular velcro for most pedals. I find that to work better than dual lock on dual lock
@@LivingroomGearDemos Learning from That Pedal Show, I see?
Attack synth is the predator! P.s.: this is not a gig pedalboard, right? P.s.2: the left side of the board should’ve cost half of the money, my god.
Helix and analog pedal??? Is it complicated?? Or to much....
Btw nice ernieball wah tuner pedal, i want one...🍻🍻🍻
It's a nice and versatile combo that gives a LOT of sounds ;)

how to buy this pedalboard?
Directly from their website. Link in description!
Strymon Zuma can be a good idea, specially of you decided to expand the board, no need for a new upgrade, just add Strymon Ojai.
Just built a board and thought of that. Its pricey but worth it if you want to expand
@@electricgypsyblues4761 never cheap out on psu
Ciooks have more Mah than the zuma 🍻🍻
@@fedboy21 uuh i saw now, didn't knew about this cioks, but why would you need 660mah anyway?
Why is Strymon Zuma better than the Cioks? The Cioks is hands down the best power supply I've used.
What is the song at 7:30????
It's a tune I made for my Harmony Silhouette review. You can pretty much only hear it in that video
@@LivingroomGearDemos thanks for the reply. Love what you do man! Have a great day.
beautiful board...but WHY did you need all that power?
The HX Stomp takes two outlets. The Preamp MKII needs a lot of juice too. Same with both Digitechs. Then there's the amount of pedals.
@@LivingroomGearDemos do you us daisy chains or do you dedicate one pedal per outlet?
@@0megalul309 that is lower quality than Cioks, Strymon, or GigRig, in terms of mA provided. It's also massive and would never fit in Schmidt array!
@@0megalul309 guess it depends what pedals you have on your board, and how much space you have. I used to power my board with a CS-12 and Aetos. They caused more problems than they solved. I have several pedals that are power hogs, and the Zuma, with 3 Ojai, solved this! 1 Ojai sits under my small EHX aux board. I also have limited space under my boards. Strymon, Cioks, or GigRig was my only solutions to combat this. I chose Strymon.

Omg 90 percent of comment s are on hx stomp
2-tier boards usually require switchers though
Studio use only, so not really.
Usually being the important word
No wah? :(
i bet JHS pedals has something smart alec to say about this....
why?
That hx stomp and Chase Bliss pedal are for shnobbs!
At first I was like "OMG that's so expensive. What are some cheap alternatives?". And then I was like "Mmmm I think I could justify that cost. And not tell my fiancé how much it cost because she would never, ever guess how much it costs because it is insane."
Tbh I don‘t like eveything beeing in front of the amp(at least thats how it seems to be in the video).
I know there is no „right“ or „wrong“ but I think there is quite some mess going on here especially with the line6 device and its reverb ect. I would always try and put these effects in an effect loop. My pedalboard has two sections pre amp and loop. Has to be connected with 4 cables ofc.
But as I said, if it works for you its fine.
I absolutely works for me, if not, I wouldn't have done it 😉 I can see the appeal of using the effects loop to some extent. But as you probably can tell my playing and music style isn't exactly Andy Timmons. I like things to be blown up, messy and kind of broken.
Living Room Gear Demos So if its intended then you built a nice board for your purpose. Have fun with it and make some awesome music!
@@LivingroomGearDemos good answer,funny
It looks very Instagram friendly but can't be too user friendly given how close the pedals are to each other. Don't you find that you're hitting multiple pedals at once with your feet?
Instagram friendly, hah! I've always had pedals as close to each other as possible to make space for many pedals. And I've never had that happen to me.
annnd now you need to invest in a switcher. wayyy too many pedals to be without one. gigrig 2.
don't need it since this is for studio use mostly.
