I loved Grenn's loyalty to Jon he knew it was a suicide mission but without hesitation he told Jon "we'll hold the gate" and then in the tunnel when he starts reciting the Nights Watch Oath R.I.P Grenn you were a real one (also R.I.P. Pyp)
I hope the story of those 6 men and the giant is written in the nights watch history
@@Randomyoutubecommenterbards will sing tales of their sacrifice and women will then of them with their lovers inside them
@@AL-fl4jkW reference 😏
I watched a post episode interview with a few of the actors. The guy who played Grenn quipped that he didn't expect to die as he just bought a house and doesn't know how he'll pay his mortgage. "That's Game of Thrones" 😅
@@psychedelicpegasus7587 I read that article as well talk about bad timing!!
I don't know why but the most touching scene for me is the night's watch in the tunnel, reciting their vow and held the gate even though they were terrified and they succeeded. Save lots of lives by sacrifice theirs.
Grenn was cool, sad to see him go
They are supposed to be a penal colony of scum (thieves, killers, rapists, traitors, orphans, and bastards) but they proved more honorable than the lousy Kingsguard. The Kingsguard ran from peasants, these guys stood up to giants, mammoths and an army 1000x bigger than them.
Ser Alliser is the epitome of that boss you hate but at the same time can't help but respect
@rickking228this isn’t even a spoiler
@@YourMotherAnd420 It is.
@@fakecubed i dont think it is since they watched that already
@@hmp01 You’re saying they’ve already watched season 6?
@@fakecubed haha i might have mistakenly commented thinking this comment was on bj and asias video haha
Sam always finds his courage with Gilly and she sees him for the hero that he is, in his own way. Hope everyone reading this has a Gilly or sees a Sam of their own!
@canceltheapocalypse8190 - that's a lovely comment.
"Im not nothing anymore." This line from Sam always gets me
Its amazing when watching this episode that you realize that its one of the few GOT episodes centered on ONE location. They never cut away from the wall to any other location!
Such a great episode through and through!
In this episode the directors thought the editors sped up jon's sword fighting scenes but he was just that fast
Man i forgot how good this battle scene was so many little details and different characters encountering one another this really is top tier tv
If I remember correctly, Alistor is in the watch for being a Targaryen loyalist during the rebellion. He might be an absolute jerk, but he does have a bit of a reason to be jaded. Especially to a son of Ned Stark.
I know the scene was sad because Ygritte dies (and it was) but I still lmao when after killing her that boy gives Jon that "I got you bro" head nod 😂
"Crows before hoes."
@@jeffreywood924 😂 that's exactly what it was
he did right by himself
remember that Ygritte was the one who shot and killed that boys' father in the village
even though ser alliser is an asshole he know's how to lead and fight he was no coward and the only time i respected him
hes not an asshole, he just have different opinion how to run the Nights watch... and dont like Jon because the Stark name..
yes im pretty sure he fought on the targ side of Roberts rebellion and was sent to the wall instead of being executed @celestialdeath9659
@celestialdeath9659 rule nr.1 is no spoilers. So theres no knee bending at this time! Delete your comment pls.
bro really just dropped the biggest spoiler of the show
Yeah he fought well in this battle
It really got me the first time watching when Ygritte died. Her and Kit are together in real life which is pretty cool
IKR. Jon was my favorite and I just want him to have his girl. But nope! GRRM really took that from me 😭
I tend to forget that fact and it makes me smile every time someone reminds me that they are together IRL. That's pretty wholesome😅
Too bad he cheated on her in real life. Ruins the chemistry imo
@@Cool_beansmh - I didn't know he cheated on her, I know nothing bout their relationship, but to be honest, I never expected it to last, it seemed kind of weird to me, too rushed, almost a publicity move. All these young actors came from nowhere - then suddenly they were big stars, must have been an enormous rush! Bad time to make a decision like marriage. Also I saw a gorgeous photo series with Alfie Allen (Theon), Lena Headey (Cersei), Kit and Emilia, mostly black and white, nothing to do with GoT, modern photo art... spoke it's own language. Dang, I'm sorry, wish I knew what it was called, I'm sure it's still available online, maybe even on YT
The cheating rumours have been unequivocally denied and that rumour was from back in 2018. They're married and have 2 children together, so it's weird that people are still talking about it.
Oh, man, Olllie finally got his revenge on Ygritte killing her parents. That kid is so wonderful, so loyal and wholesome, I just love him to bits! I hope he grows up to be as cool as Jon, what an amazing adiction he will be For The Watch.
yes, he will be King of the 7 kingdoms. with 3 of his best friends as Small Council.. :)
😬😬😬
Sad for ygritte anyway
8:49 We are all Bridget in this moment. Sweet Summer Children, no more."Where are the White Walkers when you need 'em?" No. Truer. Words.
I am the sword in the darkness, I am the watcher on the walls.
I am the shield that guards the realms of men.
I pledge my life and honor to the Night's Watch, for this night and all the nights to come!
Yeah Aliser wasn't just some incompetent dude that got sent to the wall for crimes. He basically got sent to the wall because he was on Targaryans side when Robert and Ned won the war, so he especially hates Neds bastard. He still takes his job seriously.
Yeah there’s a good reason why he’s so tough on recruits. He knows what they’re going to face north of (or on) the Wall.
This was by far one of the best episodes all series! It’s an underrated battle as well!
This episode is probably one of my all time favs! There is the bittersweet moment of Jon with Ygritte dying in his arms. 🥹🥺 Some of the brothers died too but overall this is an Ex9 that isn’t too bad 😌
Y’all are fuqn rad and I can’t wait for the next episode and seasons to come 💜💜💜
I think this is my favorite battle of the whole series. It's so well shot, the stakes are so high, and the tension is great throughout.
Opening line: "I don't know what to f***ing say". Hear you, sis. I watched GOT when it originally came out, and I saw the Mountain Vs Viper late in the evening and I had to be up for work at 6am. I was, "HOW CAN I GO TO BED AFTER THAT!?" 🤣
Sam and Gilly are just so cute together. And Maester Aemon (Peter Vaughan) is an astonishing actor. The battle scene is outstanding.
Peter Vaughan deserves more love.
@@HuntingViolets Absolutely! He's one of my favorite characters. I admit I cried when I heard of Peter Vaughan's death almost directly after finishing with the show, but then, he died doing what he did best and he played a great character, made him real by his acting and the heart he put into it. He should be remembered with great respect for this role, just as much as for his much earlier work.
I think over the seasons they just get better and better with the battle episodes. This was a good one. Cannot wait for the next one!
I think HBO was willing to give them bigger budgets for battle scenes as GTO got them millions of more subscribers. I’d subscribe just for a couple months for every season
I like the love the show gave it to Allister. It shows that you can be a dick and a great leader for morale at the same time. Remember Allister has all the reasons to hate the Starks/Lannisters/Baratheons since he was exiled to the wall because he fought for the mad king.
Would love to see his face if he knew his Lord Bastard was his true king as he was always loyal to his Targaryen’s
@@angelawilliams9252 remove this angela. Spoiler...
@@FirCorred what do you mean is not? Its absolutely clear spoiler, the biggest twist in the series in fact.
@@krefulin8582 What is? I think we must be talking about different things. I meant that Alliser Thorne having been a Targaryen loyalist is not a spoiler. It never comes up, never is mentioned and never influences anything. Not even the books mention it more than in passing. It's Ser Jaremy Rikker who talks about himself having fought for House Targaryen a bit in the books. Neither Thorne's nor Rikker's former allegiance has any consequence anywhere, shows, books, anything. What is the spoiler you're talking about, please? You got me curious now, I know the series and books by heart and always love hearing new points of view!
@@FirCorred look she said "HIS LORD BASTARD". "If only Allisyer knew his lord bastard is his TRUE KING". Do you understand is R + L = J classic spoiler?
Member’s Early Access was my favourite episode.
(You forgot to change the title/released the video early!)
Can’t wait until they get to season 5 episode 8 “Patreon Exclusive”
this was posted open access by accident, just so you know 😮
Yeah I was a bit confused 😂
Shhhhh!!!!
Sorry not sorry? I love these two lol. Wish I could afford a membership but .... Yay🎉 been waiting for this! Justice for tyron
I ain't mad about it. 😁
I remember the first time watching this I was alone at about 3am and I was so immersed that when it ended I felt like I had been holding my breath the entire time lol
Talked over Allisers leadership speech and cut it halfway. *cries in a corner*
SWEET JUSTICE. Thy boy Ollie killed Yigrette who killed his father in the village.
The Scythe. The Giants, Ghost, all Very mythological. Everything that happened with Jon, (the man really came into his own), all of Jon's Boys, Lord Janos and Gilly (the pussy) and Thorne, Tormund, the Thenn, even Ygritte and Ollie (the kid). All based in mythology. I mean the whole show is just one mythological scene after another. But this one was Soooooooo good! Absolute superior writing at this point.
I didnt feel bad for Ollies killing Igritte since if i remembrr he saw her before when they attacked his village and his family died.. if i can recall correctly he saw her killing with the bow, so... karma is a bitch.
But i love the fact that Kit is married to her in real life.
yes, Ygritte killed his father (S04E03), so Ollie got his revenge.
I really liked ser alliser in this episode
He's a G.
he definitely held it down as much as he could during this war i liked him in this ep too
We all did!
It's Alliser Thorne, no T in his first name. 😊
@@tonismith3707 I know, that's why there's no T in his name in my comment? 😂
One of the greatest episodes and top GoT battles (some amazing ones still to come!).
You guys are great - the show hit many levels in many different ways.
"We're going to do another one, cuz I'm mad." - this ... every damn time
i think this is the best episode in the entire series, it’s so great
Imagine being the only one in your household who watches this show and having to experience this all by yourself
The forest fire was pretty convenient to see the battle in the dark.
Yeah... I'm a member... Just going to... Watch now...
Yeye… same
How do you do fellow members
The way you both were before it started. Made me laugh.
Say what you want about Ser Allister. He gained my respect in this ep.
Sam was simply trying to comfort his friend
The cook with the giant cleaver doesn’t even blink when Widlimgs attack his kitchen. Wildling burgers for dinner tonight!
“It sounds like the fight seen in Mulan” LITERALLY WHAT I THOUGHT
12:34 he's having a nervous breakdown, he knows there's giants, but is in denial, and has basically shut down emotionally.
I always loved that detail. He hasn’t been at the wall very long and really had never encountered anything gruesome that wasn’t being done by his own men as a Gold Cloak. It makes sense that at least one of the “southern” recruits would react this way given their view of what the wall is.
“I SAID KNOCK AND HOLD YOU CUNTS” is one of my favorite lines in the whole show
The forest fire was an accident from lighting the biggest joint the north has ever seen.
Definitely a fan favorite episode Jon snow and the knights watch are my favorite scenes RIP Ygritt.
Cody that wait till you HEAR about audiobooks joke 😂😂😂😂😂
That was so funny
No matter the fact that Ygrid was Jon's girl, never forget that she went south of the wall and started mercilessly slaughtering innocents.
yep, ollie got some justice, she killed his parents and helped slotter an entire village of innocents
Ser Alliser is a straight up G! He noticed Tormund cutting down his lads and charged right at him! What a badass!
"I SAID NOCK AND HOLD, YOU COONTS!"
Watching this with you two makes me so happy! Keep the faith, there is more to come. Peace …
Such a great episode! Absolutely obsessed with your reactions too - I’ve binged your whole GoT playlist over the past couple of days and loved it ❤
16:30 an spin after staggering your opponent into the direction your sword went with your first strike can be a great way of building momentum and going for an risky bu powerful second strike. Long sentance.
And it looks super cool.
@@andrewward5891 that as well
I got to see this episode in a movie theatre. It was awesome.
Ahhh, the episode my teen daughter went from liking Jon Snow to mad passion.
For me, the best part of going into this episode cold for the first time was knowing what the show runners were capable at this point, thats what freaked me out most going in.
The peak of game of thrones right here. as good as it gets. masterpiece episode
The next episode is one of my favorites of the entire series! Can't WAIT for your reaction!
Rest in Peace, Pyp and Grenn 🫶🏼
This battle is just a taste of the good stuff, guys! The show goes into another gear now.
I love you two SO much. Delightful!
Love this episode, it's in my top 5. S4 is incredible and truly stands the test of time, multiple rewatches and it's still so entertaining.
GOT the show that sucks you in and disappoints you in every way but you can't stop watching. LOL
Agreed! In fact: AGREED!
You can say about Ser Alliser what you want but He is No coward and knows what He does.
Yeah if not for Alisser rallying the troops and leading the attack the battle would have been lost before Jon came down from the Wall
Gilly: "Promise you won't die!"
Sam: "I promise, I will never die."
I think it's kind of Alliser's point that every new upstart thinks he's clever enough to know what's best. It should be stated that he knows exactly what's beyond the wall. When Jon comes back and is telling them about the giants and Janos Slynt laughts he keeps his face stone. That's part of what annoys him about Jon's idealism, playfulness and desire to be a big hero in the early seasons.
They definitely didn’t need to raise the gate the whole way for Jon 😂
Rewatching it with you guys, I see why you didn't really like Ygritte. But damn, the first time I watched. I bawled like a baby. I just wanted to see my boy Jon happy and they had to kill her 😭 She still haven't seen a castle. 💔
And that bear went on to fight Jaime and Brienne . . .
@BRIDGECO1 Jon Snow played by Kit Harington and Ygritte played by Rose Leslie are a couple in real life who got married after season 7 of GOT and are now parents with 2 children a boy and a baby😍
Grenn had such a badass death. Slept on character.
This episode is so intense on first watch!!
Grenn The Giant Slayer MVP of the whole battle
Gotta love a 9th episode
Of course Ser Alliser is a badass. He fought for the dragon people.
15:32 Drop the scythe
And whats the other thing he says- the maiden
16:21 Al is backing up though
17:33 he said he could fight earlier so ig (oh god right Ollie's one good shot...)
19:12 Like, arrows, etc.?
19:40 AH WAIT ITS THE TRACKING SHOT WITH THE AMAZING TRACK
21:43 you know I'm off to read a fantic where they just are fine
21:54 DAMN TRUE
God this episode is a masterpiece and the nights watch oath while facing a giant is the most metal moment
Love the Salem shirt. I live about 40 miles from.
I love Tormund as a character lol
my fav episode of the show tbh
"we should have stayed in that cave" SOBS
I believe that the girl Maester Aemon was talking about to Sam is Lady Olenna
Unlikely. Aemon is about 30 years older than her. In fact, it was his nephew who was originally betrothed to her.
It's not the Queen of Thorns, but it's a lovely thought anyway
@@FirCorred I know i just love the thought of those two being together
@@simonalexander2354 Hi, Simon - I understand, they'd have made an amazing couple and a front of strength and wit to be reckoned with. I won't say Aemon was wrong in his decision - but I also think (like to think) that Maekar I. knew what he was doing when he called Aemon to court to be part of his and later Aegon the Unlikely's council and court. I keep thinking that Aerys II could have been avoided or kept contained. Rhaegar and, maybe, later on, Daenerys as his queen might have seen Westeros better prepared to deal with the Others. No dragons, probably...
Forgive me, I'm just reading the books again, from a requested perspective from someone who's preparing to make series of videos, so my head is too full of thoughts like this. I hope I haven't bored you... Do we write a story bout Aemon and Olenna before Olenna married Luthor Tyrell? (:
@@FirCorred I'm definitely up for that!!
Episode 9...Another great example of why Season 4 is 🔥! On to the finale and final reason...❤
Seems like I'm always waiting for your GOT reaction 😊😊😊
Me too 😎💯🤟
Ser Alliser, the MVP of this episode
this is def one of if the not the best season.
and the finale is a fucking banger too.
Rumor has it that Tormund's bear was Commander Mormont's sister, Maege "She-Bear" Mormont. And Lyanna Mormont is Tormund's daughter.
Just waiting on Winds of Winter to verify 😂
"I need to process this three episodes we just watched in a row" ahahaahhah my friend wait for the last one.
Grenn always gets me
I dont want to spoil anything, but this is the best episode in the whole of GoT followed by Battle of Blackwater.
This is probably the best episode of the whole show
RIP to Grenn, the Giant Slayer.
I know Ollie killed Ygritte, but I always wondered if Sam felt quilts for making Ollie come out from hiding and joining in😢
Really enjoying you guys on this journey 😎
I can't understand people who freaked out about the red wedding, crying about the Starks, who started a war, without a reason, in the beginning of the GoT apocalypse... I still find Ygritte's death one of the few heroic and painful to watch deaths in this show. She and her folks only wanted a safe place to stay... And they had every right to the lands south of the wall...
Amazing episode..can't wait for you guys to see the finale..it doesn't disappoint!! XO
He's gonna take your man.Yeah she's gonna eff him up for trying.... Lmao the casual confidence with which you said it too. Like it was a forrgone conclusion Ygritte was gonna save Jon ijbol. It's never gonna be what you think it's gonna be. Ever
