Some things that I want to address now that this video is starting to pickup again.
- Robert Harvey did not win a premiership, this is a mistake I made in the script but I can assure you it does not effect the point tally.
- This list is not meant to be taken seriously, the point of the video is to see if you CAN use stats to find the best players, which is up to your opinion.
- I plan to make another one of these videos in the future but with more data and more players.
- I'm currently working on my first video in quite a few months, so stay tuned. It's going to be a long video so it could take another couple weeks to make.

In the 45 years that i've been watching there has been no one as entertaining as Leigh Mathews or could replace him as my favourite....by far the GOAT.
Hard to argue with the names you came up with. However, one eyed or not, The goat to me will always be Bobby Skilton. Also he was in the years you mentioned because he played his last game in 1971. You mentioned Stewart, But Bobby also has three Brownlow medals. A record nine club best and fairests. The biggest stand out of all players in the interstate games that were once played. Would run through a pack of 10 players to get the ball, but never raised elbows like Matthews.
In the years to come if you’re still making such a list I know who the new goat will be. His name is Chad Warner of the Sydney Swans.

Buddy is my GOAT. He's super-ceded what the GOAT'S of the past, players like Lethal and Ablett, have managed to achieve regarding major stats like goals and AA's in a modern competition hyper-focused on defence WHILST having insane longevity, and after taking a full year off footy. He's the truest definition of a freak to ever take the field IMO, and the best the game has ever seen

I can somewhat agree. He has fallen off in recent years, but I cannot deny his raw talent as a player. What always amazed me was his ability to run, for a big man he could outrun a lot of players that should have been a lot faster than him, and like you said, his ability to kick the 100 in a season and to crack 1000 in the modern hyper-defensive game will never be forgotten. I will confidently say that he is the last player to ever do both of those things. However, I still think Ablett Jr. is the true GOAT. Gaz gt tagged every match and even so pulled some insane statistics. He got 54 disposals in a loss to Collingwood, I cant remember when it was but that is just insane. There is that as well as winning 2 Brownlows, but like the video said I think if he wasnt plagued by injury he would have become the 5th player to achieve the triple Brownlow, and dare I say, may have even become the first to win 4. This would have been even more doable if he hadn't moved to the Suns. In 2012 he was 6 votes behind Jobe Watson when the Suns only won 3 games. Again in 2014, Ablett lost the Brownlow by 4 votes after missing 8 games in the season. If he had stayed at Geelong I believe he would have been a 3x premiership player and a 4x Brownlow medallist. But, I can respect Buddy in every aspect and he was absolutely a freak of nature.

Imo you cant pick a GOAT, only a GOTE (greatest of the era).
Footy has changed so much over the years and it is unfair to compare a player like Ablett Sr to Ablett Jr. They were both incredible but they are very different players from very different games.

The problem here is that the top 3 players of all time didn’t win a Brownlow. Matthew’s, Ablett Snr, Carey.
But good you’ve acknowledged that. Good work.
I really enjoyed this. As with the Brownlow Medal, it unfairly rewards midfielders. Scott Wynd, Gary Dempsey, Barry Round and others, couldn't earn a Brownlow today. The closest was Corey McKernan in 1996, but Corey got more clearances than many midfielders and more goals than any ruckman.
As we all know, the AFL cognoscenti list Carey, Matthews, Ted Whitten, and the Abletts as easily the leading AFL GOAT charts. But these numbers pretty much tend to reward possessions, goals, and games. This is a bad heuristic for greatness; it favours those who kick goals 10 times higher than those in the backline who stop many more of these goals. My grandfather played for Carlton and Fitzroy from the '30s to the early '50s. And Laurie Nash was the greatest player he ever saw on the field. He recounted Nash, as a ruck rover, kicking 15 goals in a game and also kicking four goals 17 points. Anyway, we all have different versions of what greatness should look like.
You HAVE to remake this as a 10 year remake. That list will change a bit.

Ablett snr was insane considering he only played full forward in the last part of his career

ye I do watch a lot of JxmyHighroller and I do like making these kinda videos. This video was by far the most effort I've put into one of my videos. I've got some more ideas, and I'll be working my ass off to get them out soon

G Ablett Jnr is the goat period. Here’s the most complete player I’ve seen kicks goals, set ups play, offense/defence pressure , can mark the footy if he needs to just Awsome to watch
And also L Franklin from 2008-2011 was just unbelievable to watch a guy that tall that moves so well and fast his in my 5 top of all time

Why Leigh Mathews is the GOAT:11 times in top 3 in Hawthorn B&F between 1971 to 1982,including 8 wins,in a top side.Only missed 1979 because he missed 9 games.Skilton and Murray won 9 each but for lowly sides.
could derm be considered for the premierships category? he probably wasnt as good as those other boys, but he would be close and he did win 5 premierships for a reason.
I remember when we played north, it wasnt how north were going to play, but how well carey was going to play, that was the concern. If carey was on, we werent going to win. As an essendon supporter, one of the best teams at the time, it was right off, that one player could pretty much beat us. Never been concerned about one player, except carey
I hate stats, based on the eye test and a player having an aura about them it's Gazza all the way, Paddy Dangerfield's also the best burst and clearance player I have seen, Dusty the most important player to their team, the nicest smoothest easy to watch player was Nicky Winmar tied with Andrew McLeod

If we go off the numbers he'd go up to 5, 6, or 7th. But based off my own opinion, honestly I have no idea. Would he be considered better than Dunstall and Lockett now? It's very possible.
Sorry i disagree with some if stats and accolades such as goals kicked (different eras) premiership (team accolade not personal) brownlow (midfield award) and other stats such as games played which doesnt truly reflect the greatness of ones ability. My criteria is simple just two. AA and BF as they are fair to every player in all positions and i will only choose players from 1990 onwards (players that i have seen played)
Clear cut top 6 players based on total AA & BF from 1990 are Ablett Jnr, Danger, Harvey, Carey, Judd and Buddy.
As a deciding factor i will use the eye test such as impact on games, ability to play different positions, footy skills and WOW factor. And my opinion came down to

Banger Harvey wasn't fast, couldn't jump, couldn't kick it over a jam tin. BUT, he was averaging 30+ touches a game when that was unheard of, read the game like a book, broke tackles for fun, played 380 games as a midfielder, won 2 Charlies, should have won a flag in '97 (fk u Jamie Shanahan) and is the best St Kilda player of all time (just in front of Plugger). He's not in the top 5 GOATs though.

There is no goat of the AFL not yet at least.. every player that is in contention just feels like there missing something to stand out from the rest either it be from consistency to brownlows to flags. I feel like in this new age of AFL of young players like sam walsh and andrew brayshaw could have a good crack at becoming the goat just gotta wait and see.

Firstly, Stats are completely and utterly meaningless, and this shouldn't require further explanation. And "Maffs" is a Science, surely....
Gazza is the best l saw...nuff said. It's almost impossible to separate Mattwews, Daicos, Winmar, Blight, Barker, Jarman, Flower, Jezza and Hunter so l won't try. Suffice to say that it's Skill that separates these guys from the rest. I like Selwood and Dusty but as good as they both undoubtedly are, they aren't anywhere near the class of these other guys.
The game isn't anything like it was and has been absolutely destroyed by the endless, mindless Interchange.
And no, Junior couldn't kick properly and doesn't even make my best Cats 18

Most are surprised about Junior not making my 18, but that doesn't make it "stupid". I'm not saying he's a poor player but he's very overrated given his inability to find a leading target from 35-40, constantly leaving these passes agonizingly short of floating just out of reach. It doesn't matter when ur beating a bottom side during the season but he did it twice from two attempts in the 08 GF. Selwood would Captain my Cats 18 and Buddha would change with him out of a Pocket. Bartel would ruck-rove, Couch is Centre and Turner and Bruns the Wings.
