NOTES FROM VIDEO (updated 2024) - The music from the later part of the video got copyrighted, so I used UA-cam's tools to change it. My voice is highly altered due to this and the music is interesting to say the least (UA-cam's non-copyright library is very limited) - The VFL and VFA were not “sister” competitions, meaning they had no relation to each other. They were two separate leagues. However, the Footscray Bulldogs from the VFA in 1924, and from the VFL in 2014, ARE the same team.
Yeah definitely competitors as competitions. VFA didn’t become VFL until 96, running alongside the AFL reserves and then became the VFL we know today in 2000. Great vid man
If you want an absurd ratio. In 1899 Geelong defeated St Kilda 24.18.162 v 0.1.1 Jim McShane kicked 11 goals. Thus he outscored them by at least 6500%.
Awesome video, mate. Well done! Here's a fact you'll love: A player that debuted in 1986 (or 1981 if you'll accept SANFL) and a player that retired in 2021 played matches against each other. The answers are Craig Bradley & Shaun Burgoyne. They squared off in Rounds 4 & 19 of the 2002 AFL Season.
Fitzroy won the 1916 Premireship after finishing with the Wooden Spoon (Finishing Last) on the ladder in the same season. This happened during the Great War/WW1 when the VFL had a number of clubs withdraw from the competition due to the lack of players leaving only 4 clubs remaining for the start of the 1916 season. Fitzroy finishing 4th as in Last on the ladder, were lucky the VFL kept with the final 4 system, and they won the 3 Finals in September in order to win the Premiership.
I notice someone's already mentioned it, but the fact that Fitzroy won the flag in 1916 after finishing last on the ladder has always been crazy to me. Obviously there were only 4 teams participating in the comp that year, but still, you'd think the other teams had their measure
Good work young fella, I’m under the assumption your a Victorian lad but I thought you have shown great respect to the whole AFL competition with your fair and unbiased opinion of Sydney, west coast rivalry. Top stuff I knew a few of the facts but yeah I’m a lot more informed after watching your show..
When I was a kid in 1985 I got a book called "Everything you wanted to know about Australian Rules Football but couldn't be bothered asking" yip long title but it was full of stuff like this. I don't know if its a common book in Oz (I'm not Australian) but gee it was interesting.
Here is a little known fact that will blow your mind, North Melbourne's Ian Fairley kicked a goal with each of his first three kicks back in 1983 (R7 vs Hawthorn) and also kicked a goal with his final kick in the 1996 Grand Final. Ben Rutten wasn't the first.
one of the most underrated footy rivalrys is north melbourne vs essendon it has a really interesting history, can you please make a vid on underrated afl rivalrys? 🙏
Yeah, I can see you're a new and small channel... but the content sure doesn't look like it. Stick at it, I can't see how you won't get a decent following at some stage, at the very least. The passion and interest in your topics show. But an even bigger draw for the channel is it's not cheap, tacky, or overdramatised. Great stuff
I would say Michael Tuck for Hawthorn has the equal longest stint in VFL/AFL between 1971 to 1991. Dustin Fletcher was lucky he went as long as he did considering the stuff he went through.
This is good but not accurate as VFA was not second division. It was the original league and a seperate league to the VFL/AFL. Only in the 2000s did the VFA then become the reserves level. Up to then it was its own league with own rules including only having 16 players
come on mate, west coast / sydney rivalry doesn't come close to the collingwood / carlton or adelaide / port rivalry that has been built from more than just a few close finishes west coast / sydney weren't even the best 2 teams in 2005/2006, adelaide was dominate in those years but missed the grand final both times
You need to get your "Facts" correct. Footscray won their flag in the VFA. The VFA was a TOTALLY separate comp from the then VFL. Not a second division of the AFL as you called it. It was a rival to the VFL.

Robert Harvey debuted in 1988 retired in 2008. Several current players (Hawkins, Pendlebury etc) who played in that year are still playing.

Lance Franklin outscored North Melbourne 13.4 vs 9.5 in Rd 10, 2012.
Gold coast's highest ever finish is the same as geelong's lowest ever finish
New that
Gold Coast gonna get higher in the next few years
@@footyboy4388 but you didn’t know how to spell knew

This is so good mate
cheeers Lachie!
Loved watching the 2005 and 2006 premierships, that WCE and Sydney rivalry was insane!
Great video mate, gonna share it with my mates
Legend!
Good work young fella. Good to see, and great work. There's a bright future there if you keep it up.
Here's a fun fact - Joel Selwood has played in as many finals wins in his career as St.Kilda have in their entire 120 or so year history.
151 years*. im digging my own grave as a sainter here as well so there you go.
Those facts were awesome. Nice work.
Very entertaining video! u just got another sub!
Glad you enjoyed!

@@Winks3oh cheers 🙏 brissie and tiges is another good one too
its crazy to think that sydney and west coast had a 2 point average margine 15 years ago then for sydney to win by 171 this year

Glad to see more foreigners becoming invested with our beautiful game. Hope to see you at a game one day ❤

thats 20 years, fletcher played 22. you are chatting out of your arse
Far out this is elite
cheers Blaze
What are the win-loss ratios with Michael Tuck and Brent Harvey?
Tuck’s w/l is 303-123. Harvey’s was 238-194
good doogkes
more afl facts
Didn't Dustin Fletcher play an AFL game with his own son too???!
This is good but not accurate as VFA was not second division. It was the original league and a seperate league to the VFL/AFL. Only in the 2000s did the VFA then become the reserves level. Up to then it was its own league with own rules including only having 16 players
fair enough
The vfa was never 2 division they didn't want to be the vfl lied
Footscray have never finished a home and away season minor premiers
VFL became AFL in 1990 and VFA became VFL in 1995
That's what I was thinking too
yeh got it wrong
@@Winks3 a couple of minor mistakes, but overall, a pretty decent video
come on mate, west coast / sydney rivalry doesn't come close to the collingwood / carlton or adelaide / port rivalry that has been built from more than just a few close finishes
west coast / sydney weren't even the best 2 teams in 2005/2006, adelaide was dominate in those years but missed the grand final both times
I understand your point, but I was just trying to emphasise how close these games were
are you old enough to remember Essendon's 2000 season
no but one time I saw Essendon beat Collingwood and that was good

Most of these aren’t AFL facts. VFL is just one of the Aussie Rules comps in Australia.
