My brothers and I just attempted that hike last weekend, and it looks much different covered in snow! It's so hard to follow the trail and switch backs, but it's also just so pretty. We're going to try again next year.

I am glad you visit all of the wilderness areas of Southern California Some people think that Southern California is just Los Angeles. I am up here in Northern California and I still just love seeing beautiful places in So. Cal.

So many great wilderness areas in SoCal but I think Northern California has the best wilderness areas!

I’m from So cal but I live in Texas right now. We are a military family and we move all over. I really love your videos but they make me homesick, hence my name, lol. Thank u for all your videos. It’s Amazing how many cool things there are to do in Cali!

Thanks for the comment, I agree California has so many amazing things to do! I bet there are some fun spots in Texas as well?

I'm glad that you did both San G and San Bernardino Peak too. San Bernardino Peak is definitely incredibly underappreciated, and based on your videos, it seems like a way more interesting hike with beautiful scenery and absolutely breathtaking views as you get near the top. I grew up in Yucaipa at the base of these mountains and have always wanted to hike up both one day, but never got around to it/couldn't find people brave enough to take on the challenge with me. I've at least hiked up several miles on the Vivian Creek trail and I think the San Bernardino Peak trail we tried is called "Mormon Trail"(?). I can't be sure after all these years. Wow, that trail just went straight up up up. I thought I was in decent shape and discovered I surely was not. Summiting San G, San Bernardino, and San Jacinto is on my bucket list, for sure. Great videos! Keep 'em coming.

I have done this hike 3 times in the last year but only made it to the summit 2 of those as the good old altitude got to me on one of them. Great hike to prep for Whitney

Thank you Thank you. What a great memory jogger. I have done a summit hike 3 times with my boys. Nothing like it. It was so beautiful in 1980 85 and 95 but its a lot dryer now and not as appealing. A two day camp out hike is the best way to do it.

That brought back memories . I did it in 3 days with 2 nights at High Creek Camp and that was over 3 decades ago. I saw big horn on day 1 while walking in at the High Creek Camp across the canyon. You did a good job of capturing it and showing the favorable spots and it looked like a almost perfect day. I don't know if I would do it in one day. I am going to do it again, thank you...

In my younger days I was a frequenter of the San Gorgonio wilderness. A friend of mien and I would usually make a three day trip out of it, that included getting to the summit of San G. We did spend the night on the summit once, and let me tell you it was the most miserable night of our lives. The wind decided to pick up and we lost one of our tents, never to be seen again. That was back in my days growing up in Riverside. I have since moved to Alaska and getting to a summit here is putting life at risk in the worst way. Both elements and wildlife can be overwhelming any time of year.

Thanks for another informative video. Unlike Shasta I have summited San Gorgonio - 50 years ago with my Dad and Boy Scout troop. We climbed it from the other side from Poop-out Hill. But it took twice. The first time we were denied by a late season May snowstorm. The route from the other side is quite scenic and doesn’t include as much elevation gain because you drive up into the mountains to the trailhead. One of the highlights I recall was hiking by the wreckage of a plane that had crashed on the flank. Interestingly, my Dad had previously attempted the Vivian Ck route in the 60s with an adult friend from church when I was little. His backpack had a wooden frame! Unfortunately, they were rained out on their summit attempt.

Josh - really enjoying your vlogs of all kinds of adventures, but hikes are my fave. That is is a beast of a hike! Congrats, man! I've only done it once as an overnight. Thanks for taking us all along and giving me some great ideas for new adventures.

i took the South Fork trail from near Jenks Lake. Its longer (21 miles round-trip!) than Vivian Creek but less steep. I started at sunrise and finished at sunset. The views are incredible.

Well and nobly done! I grew up in SoCal and summited Old Grayback twice. I used to go up the Vivian Creek trail and down through Dollar Lake and to Poopout Hill.
    Two questions:
    1) There used to be the wreckage of a DC3 on the side of the mountain (Vivian trail)
2)There were stone circles on the summit for hearty souls who wanted to sleep there all night.
    Are they still there?

I did this very same hike many years ago on a weekday. I was all alone until just as I was leaving the peak two other hardy souls showed up. I remember the "false peak" where you get to a sharp bend in the trail and lo and behold you find that you have another ways to go. It's doable in one day but you need to be in shape especially if you're not acclimated to the altitude.
