ua-cam.com/video/aXDvIm8mlZs/v-deo.html Huge Radiohead fan here, and this song has a special meaning for me, which I'm sure it has for many of you too. I don't see many people covering it but I gave it a go, I hope you'll take a min to have a listen. Thanks a mil, Shane.
I have to admit I didn't know this song before 50/50. My mom had cancer and she beat it, I'm so proud of her. She was given two weeks to live but the chemo suddenly started to work, and now she's cancer free. I feel so selfish, I wanted to take my own life when my mom was fighting for hers. I cry whenever I hear this song.. it's so beautiful. My heart is with everyone who's hurting. Just remember, even though it's foggy, sunshine is right on the other side trying to break through to you.
Thats awesome about your mom ....i also love the movie 50/50 but unless i dont remenber correctly i dont recall this song been in that movie .... but grear song n movie ...
"They're the ones who'll hate you when you think you've got the world all sussed out." That line makes me cry :'(. Thom Yorke is such an amazing songwriter.
"Drying up in conversation, you will be the one who cannot talk. All your insides fall to pieces, you just sit there wishing you could still make love". ❤ I love their lyrics. One of my all time favorite bands. 🖤
I love the songs by Radiohead where the music isn't so overpowering. This song does that well. The music doesn't have to be so crazy and layered and loud you know. I just want a simple tune and be able to hear his voice, to be able to hear the damn lyrics. That's what I like about this song.
There´s still some music like that, i can reccomend Sasha Sloan and 4ever Falling as 2 artists who make this kind of chill music if you want some good lyrics
2 decades later and this is still one of the best albums I have ever listened to. It was the soundtrack to my late teens. Whilst I understood and loved Yorke's lyricism all along, what I didnt know back then is... The Bends is an illness that arises from the rapid release of nitrogen gas from the bloodstream and is caused by bubbles forming in the blood and other tissues when a diver ascends to the surface of the ocean too rapidly. It is also referred to as Caisson sickness, decompression sickness (DCS), and Divers' Disease.
After i found out what this song is about it totally changed it for me. It makes me incredibly sad now. All i can think about is some poor teenage boy, paralyzed from the chest down who constantly ruminates on everything he's lost and can't stand to see himself in the mirror anymore, screaming out that he wants another chance while simultaneously knowing there won't be one. I really can't listen to this beautiful song without getting sad now, like real sad.
I used to Love this song, but was one of those situations i forgot about it for years, i'm so glad 50/50 brought me back here to reunite me with this awesome track! :)
The feelings kick in the more I grow up One minute your a kid playing ocarina of time with the innocence of everything around you and the next your a man growing up with the reality of the world lost in the middle of it all trying to manage
its amazing the power that music has over emotion.....i cannot put into words what i feel about this song, the lyrics have a place in a part of my heart that noone knows about....thank you radiohead

Real and raw and acoustic as it gets for folk country.. This man is an absolute Legend..I wish he would've expanded this song out a few more lines and bars though..He should really remaster this like Something in the orange Z&E version which I think is his masterpiece song..That's the song I discovered him by..Great job Zach we love you man♥️
while your insides fall to pieces, youll just sit there wishing you could still make love. i used to feel this loneliness when i was high. god i was so sad.
My interpretation of the song is that he feels like a misfit in this world, yet very authentic. To fit in he has become a chameleon and broken mirrors to pretend like others. He can see the bigger picture of this world and whenever he tries to express it, they hate him for who he is. He feels very lonely and unloved that's why he stops being authentic and pretends to be someone who he is not. His authenticity is the best thing that ever happened to him and to seek love in this world he's lost it.
ya know....i had a boyfriend.....and he used to come around....leave for me 'TREATS"...(no i no longer take treats..) however...because he had a significant other...and me...he thought "treats" compensated when I was alone.....and he was with her.......man oh man...I heard this song....and yes...cried my heart out...and got rid of the creep!!!!!!!

I don't understand why Thom Yorke thinks this song is really bad.
I kind of do... like, I disagree, I like it, but looking at the rest of their output this is way "poppier" than their norm. Knowing Thom's perspectives on music and the like, it seems plausible why this is hated by him.
this song is very generic and could have been written by coldplay. not saying I dont like it though.
Yeah fair description
maybe the lyrics aren't the best or the music but his delivery and performance makes all the difference.
