I think why red Sprite still kind of remembered today is mainly because it was the manga that took the place of bleach when that ended so people felt like it was gonna do what my hero did for Naruto when my hero took Naruto place when it ended
Ohhh honestly nobody had really brought that up tbh, a lot of people seem to fondly remember it just due to its setting and ideas at least from those who i've talked to
It's amazing how similar Red Sprite's opening is to Promised Neverland's and they only debuted a few weeks apart. Also WOW. I was playing The Great Ace Attorney 2 right before watching this and didn't expect to hear that music again so quickly.
Ahaha I just finished TGAA 1 so I felt like the music fit! Also yeah I guess their openings are a tad similar! though due to oneshot release dates its likely just a big coincidence
Stuff like this makes me wish I lived in a different world-one where both *Iron Knight* and *Red Sprite* were successful manga. Can you imagine a timeline where even *E-Robot* lasted as long as *My Hero Academia*? Imagine if *My Hero Academia* had been the series that bombed, while *E-Robot* became the breakout hit, dominating from 2014 to 2024. I can’t even picture how an *E-Robot* anime would work. Who would animate it? Studio Bones? Oh no... that could be a disaster. Maybe the aliens currently invading New Jersey can abduct me and take me to that *E-Robot* timeline so I can find out.
Things like that are always interesting to think about! Potentially any manga could have gone on to be much longer, though E-Robot is a pretty deep cut!
@@TrentinArt This is such a deep cut, but imagine that rare timeline where E-Robot became a successful underdog story, running for hundreds of chapters. The mangaka behind it even recently wrapped up a 100+ chapter series, which is wild considering his recent work was essentially an NSFW gag about being a mangaka. The key difference with E-Robot, though, is that it was aimed at children, so I could totally see it evolving into a battle shonen-like My Life as a Teenage Robot but with a Japanese twist. Even the original manga had some villains for her to fight, so who knows what could’ve happened if E-Robot had found its audience instead of being axed. We’ll never know, but it’s fun to think about what could’ve been.
Red Sprite did not feel like it should have been a weekly manga. Very fun Skies of Arcadia esque setting but the story about so-called "good" nations relying on poverty and destabilizing other nations to stay as an industrial power was maybe too much for the blistering pace and younger demo that weekly shonen jump asked for. Still an enjoyable read with a satisfying enough ending
I really did enjoy this one even if it felt like the pacing was sped up at points. Also really loved the Magonia name drop in the series as it's got a very interesting place in folklore (and also mentioned in one of my favorite books on UFOs/Aliens ever, Passport to Magonia), fits both literally and symbolically. Very much feel it could have gone on for a fair bit longer but the villains really did need to be toned down a touch and humanized, at least the human ones.
Oh god the Sprite Cranberry gag got me, i legit thought someone was knocking at my door lmao I never read Red Sprite (it was around the time i stopped reading most new Jump manga) but i did read Iron Knight and i remember really liking it! Id have to revisit it but it was one of my first experience with a cancelled Jump manga and i remembered being really bummed about it. This one seems really cool world wise and has a lot of fun concepts, but it seems to falter a lot in the art and writing department. Along with all the stuff you and your fans mentioned, another thing i think killed it is that it premiered in the same batch as The Promised Neverland, and both series have VERY similar beginnings. (a group of kids living a seemingly ideallic life in an orphanage find out theyre actually being raised to die for the villains sake) Main difference is that TPN exceled much better in both writing, art and tone and its first arc was focused on escaping with the action and liberation themes coming after. I do hope Yagi can get another full series to show off more of their potential (i forgot about the oneshot from earlier in the year) but i think they might have better luck in another magazine. Great video as always!
Yeahh I remember liking Iron Knight too, TPN definitely executed some ideas better initially though its a shame since Red Sprite did have some cool ideas! Im really interesting to see what Yagi does for a full series since their recent stuff feels more solidified and mature!
I think a reason for Red Sprite being remembered fondly is that most of it's fault can be easily attributed to it's struggle for survival in Jump, while all it's positives could really shine with length.
Potentially, give anything enough chapters and it'll likely fix itself eventually though. It does have clear issues from the onset though so I can see why it was cut so quickly
The MC's do kinda look similar! Red motif, military hats! A Higuma Axe File would be pretty interesting tbh especially since its a series I rarely think about!
I actually loved his first series Iron Knight. Was highly disappointed when it was axed, as I saw a lot of potential in it. (Too many people were comparing it to Attack on Titan, which I found as equally annoying as it’s cancelling.)

Okay that Sprite Cranberry skit startled me
WHY YOU USE SUCH REALISTIC SOUNDS BRUH 😂😂😂
That Sprite Cranberry caught me off guard.

I remember when that one dude jumped out of his skin. That was pretty cool. I wish this author had more time to cook.
Red Sprite?
is that a drink
Wanna Sprite cranberry? :)

I use to confuse this with Hell Warden since both those Jump Manga were popular back when I first joined the community 😂

Our Sprite
Of course Comrade!! ⚒️
Such an interesting manga, I'm definitely gonna write an essay when we get to the ginka and gluna axe file lol
Heck yeah!! Love hearing from impassioned fans, and GG is one of my favs!
I actually loved his first series Iron Knight.

Same Iron Knight was pretty cool, it'll be interesting to revisit it at some point to gauge how people feel!
Can you do Ice-head gill next
I'd love to do Ice Head Gill at dome point in the future!
I haven’t read to much of Red Sprite. But the concept is a good one as I like the idea, but they need time to work on their writing flaws.
