I guess it's kind of a moot point now to try and take one of the many Brian May interviews about those days as "that's what he said". It's been more than 30 years by now, those final years were traumatic for all the members of Queen, Brian was at very low points around that time, and I'm sure there's memories that are as clear as day in his mind, while other stuff is more of a fog. What we do know is that they continued recording for quite a while still after finishing the Innuendo album. We can also be quite sure that the last video recordings were probably done separately from the recording of the tracks they're for. There for sure were better and worse days in Freddie's last two years as well, which also has to be accounted for. But hell yes Freddie's voice is killer on that album.

Early Queen is definitely the best way to go (through A Day At The Races, arguably News Of The World). But Innuendo was a fine return to form for the band before Freddie’s tragic passing. By the time they were recording this album, Freddie’s health was already failing, though his voice was strong as ever. But touring by the end of the decade was out of the question for Queen. So they never got to perform this song or album (nor its predecessor The Miracle) live with Freddie.

Great reaction!! You've just checked my #1 Queen song! Talk about going out on top - with an epic, proggy masterpiece! Have always loved Steve Howe's contributions to this, and the general message & dark tone of this piece.
If their heaviness is a surprise, then it's high time to delve into their early years, where it was quite common for them to rock out with a heavy, HEAVY track!
Future considerations: The Prophet's Song (their longest track ever - it's another masterpiece!), Stone Cold Crazy, Tie Your Mother Down, Brighton Rock, Son and Daughter, Ogre Battle, The March Of The Black Queen...for starters!! These guys could definitely do heavy! Cheers.

I bought the CD in 1991 for cheap. Some days after that the news was spread that Freddie had died and the price for every fart Queen ha ever produced skyrocketed. This is the climax of the album but I like the whole album. What a farewell gift that was! And as already mentioned this is their best album since the 70es. But I don't only think about their first 5 albums. I like the following two as well. Especially "Jazz" is an album that is overlooked very often. But I like it among other reasons because there is some satirical stuff on it and with "Jealousy" one of the most beautiful they ever made- For "Bicycle Race" you should keep in mind to watch the video. It is special.

if you wanna listen to their heavier stuff then listen to „gimme the prize“, „stone cold crazy“, „was it all worth it“, „ogre battle“, „white man“ „i want it all“, „princes of the universe“, „fight from the inside“. „i‘m in love with my car“, „death on two legs“, „loser in the end“, „keep yourself alive“, „it‘s late“ and on and on. their catalogue is huge and diverse. it‘s a very steep and deep rabbit hole with many branches😉.

If you want to hear another flamenco guitar duet like you heard with Brian May and Steve Howe, then I'd recommend Imagining by GTR, the band founded by Steve Howe and Steve Hackett. 😊
Or an electric guitar duet between Brian May and Steve Hackett on the latter's track called Cassandra, specifically the 1994 version with Hackett on lead vocals. 😊
May and Hackett worked on three tracks together: this one (which also has an earlier 1986 version with Chris Thompson from Manfred Mann's Earth Band on lead vocals), Slot Machine (both Thompson and May on lead vocals) and Don't Fall Away From Me.

Finally, someone reacting to the music instead of a video. The video is to distracting to appreciate it's complexities and engineering. I turn 63 this year and remember thinking upon it's release, finally something to rival "A Night At The Opera". From the same album "Bijou" should be next, followed immediately by "The Show Must Go On" . Thank You.

I have been a hardcore Queen fan for decades.
For me, their best songs aren't even the radio hits. It's songs like Innuendo, March of the Black Queen, The Show Must Go On, Breakthru, Spread Your Wings, One Vision, Made In Heaven, Too Much Love Will Kill You and do many more.
I am happy to see that people realize there is more to Queen than Bohemian Rhapsody.

Is "Sheer Heart Attack" considered speed metal? Either way, you'd probably like it. The whole News of the World album kicks ass, although I'd be fine if I never hear the first two tracks again...

Some of the hardest rock from Queen
    Liar
    Stone Cold Crazy
    Sheer Heart Attack
    Death On Two Legs
    Let Me Entertain You
    Tie Your Mother Down
    Tear It Up
    *Princes Of The Universe*
    Gimme The Prize
    I Want It All
    Scandal
    The Show Must Go On
I also highly recommend, though maybe not the "hardest" of rock by Queen
    Keep Yourself Alive
In The Lap Of The Gods... Revisited
    Don't Stop Me Now
    If You Can't Beat Them
    The Hero
    Action This Day
    I Go Crazy
    One Vision
    Breakthru
    Headlong

Steve Howe is the only guest musician ever to play on a Queen song. I'm not including Bowie, obviously. If you want to hear some serious May guitar, check out Brighton Rock.

You want some heavy Queen songs? Here I give some to you:
Ogre Battle; Stone Cold Crazy; Great King Rat; Death On Two Legs; White Man; Sheer Heart Attack; and I could go on forever! They started as a hard rock band with great influences on Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, but they quickly developed their own sound in their second album, which is their best IMO. They have lots of heavy songs!

I recommend if you dont know it: 'The March of the Black Queen' (maybe 'White Queen (As It Began)' and 'Killer Queen' if you want to know all the Queens), 'The Prophet's Song' (not so radio friendly songs), 'Death on Two Legs (Dedicated To.....'), ''39' (Brian May vocals), 'More of that Jazz' (Roger Taylor vocals).

    Brighton Rock

Just remember early Queen is far more metal/heavy than the later and radio tracks
Stone Cold Crazy is generally regarded as the birth of speed/thrash metal , the live version is a must watch

the heavier riff by brian may past the end of the spanish intersection imitates it quite good in a heavier way i think. but if you wanna listen to how brian may or john deacon are playing the spanish guitar in acoustic style i suggest you the queen-song „who needs you“. it‘s nearly somewhat reaggae‘ish with spanish guitar.
