    According to Steve Howe:
I was moving around Switzerland at the time, doing some recording. I had some days off and I went to Montreux because of the memories of [the Yes album] Going for the One being made there. I was in a restaurant that was slightly below the ground. A guy walks by that goes, “Steve!” And I look up and it was a Queen crew member that used to be a Yes crew member. I think his name was Martin. He said, “Do the guys know you’re here? Can you come down to say hello?”
I finished my lunch and went down there and it was a setup job. I walked in and we chatted a bit and they said, “We want to play you the album.” I was like, “I’ve got loads of time. Play me the album.”
They play the album, but they save “Innuendo” for last. When it finishes they go, “Do you think you could add some guitar to that?” I said, “I don’t think you need any. There are some great parts there.” They said, “No, no, no. We want something more.” I said, “I’ll give it a run.”
They had a Gibson Chet Atkins guitar, which was a solid Spanish guitar. That is what Brian [May] had used on it. I used one of his and over a couple of hours in the late afternoon, we took a few takes, took a break, took another take. It really was just improvisation. That’s what they wanted. They didn’t want any structural type of functions that I could do.
They were just like, “Play anything.” That has always been something I’ve been able to do. I don’t know how or why, but thank God because it’s something that I love to do. Very good things happen in that process before a producer can wear you out by saying, “Can you do another take?” “Well I’ve done 10! What do you want out of me? Blood?”
The guys were really cool. They wrote me a letter to thank me for doing it and gave me a credit. That was it. It was a wonderful time to meet the guys, before we lost Freddie. I found that, particularly Roger [Taylor] Brian and Freddie, they were really kind. That was really a band. They were so tight. They sat together; they agreed. They were so similar. It was a beautiful thing.

I love that Queen songs can’t be really categorized and that both the melody and lyrics are always so complex yet pleasurable to the listener. Such talent! Who could guess the magic they could create by combining 4 talented musicians who were also college graduates with degrees: a biologist ( Roger), an electrical engineer (John), an astrophysicist (Brian) and a graphic artist (Freddie). All four into music, able to play multiple instruments, perfectionists, highly intelligent, experimental musicians who took their artistic craft seriously and were able to make use of each member’s strengths. It doesn’t happen often that people are able to create such unique music that is so universally recognized and loved. We lost so much talent when Freddie passed. RIP Genius.

I guess it's kind of a moot point now to try and take one of the many Brian May interviews about those days as "that's what he said". It's been more than 30 years by now, those final years were traumatic for all the members of Queen, Brian was at very low points around that time, and I'm sure there's memories that are as clear as day in his mind, while other stuff is more of a fog. What we do know is that they continued recording for quite a while still after finishing the Innuendo album. We can also be quite sure that the last video recordings were probably done separately from the recording of the tracks they're for. There for sure were better and worse days in Freddie's last two years as well, which also has to be accounted for. But hell yes Freddie's voice is killer on that album.

Early Queen is definitely the best way to go (through A Day At The Races, arguably News Of The World). But Innuendo was a fine return to form for the band before Freddie’s tragic passing. By the time they were recording this album, Freddie’s health was already failing, though his voice was strong as ever. But touring by the end of the decade was out of the question for Queen. So they never got to perform this song or album (nor its predecessor The Miracle) live with Freddie.

I bought the CD in 1991 for cheap. Some days after that the news was spread that Freddie had died and the price for every fart Queen ha ever produced skyrocketed. This is the climax of the album but I like the whole album. What a farewell gift that was! And as already mentioned this is their best album since the 70es. But I don't only think about their first 5 albums. I like the following two as well. Especially "Jazz" is an album that is overlooked very often. But I like it among other reasons because there is some satirical stuff on it and with "Jealousy" one of the most beautiful they ever made- For "Bicycle Race" you should keep in mind to watch the video. It is special.

If their heaviness is a surprise, then it's high time to delve into their early years, where it was quite common for them to rock out with a heavy, HEAVY track!
Future considerations: The Prophet's Song (their longest track ever - it's another masterpiece!), Stone Cold Crazy, Tie Your Mother Down, Brighton Rock, Son and Daughter, Ogre Battle, The March Of The Black Queen...for starters!! These guys could definitely do heavy! Cheers.

In the 80's Queen was patchy, but for their swan song album as a complete unit, they banged out a solid classic LP a perfect way to go out.

P.S. And bear in mind, this album came out 10 months before Freddie died. That album was the best they'd done since the old days, and you cannot tell that Freddie had so much as a cold. Less a legend than a Titan. RIP Freddie.

Queen has a lot of heavy songs....Gimme The Prize, Stone Cold Crazy, Ogre Battle, Tear It Up, Brighton Rock, Sheer Heart Attack, Was It All Worth It just to name a few. They could rock very hard.

Finally, someone reacting to the music instead of a video. The video is to distracting to appreciate it's complexities and engineering. I turn 63 this year and remember thinking upon it's release, finally something to rival "A Night At The Opera". From the same album "Bijou" should be next, followed immediately by "The Show Must Go On" . Thank You.

Queen did a Thrash Metal song in the 1970’s before the term was invented. Check out their live performance of Stone Cold Crazy. It was at The Rainbow or Hammersmith Odeon.

Also, check out ‘These Are The Days of Our Lives’.
Another one of my favourites, but for different reasons.
    Freddie’s last video. Extremely sad.

If you really want to hear a heavy song, I would recommend Stone Cold Crazy, which was one of their earliest songs.

You want some heavy Queen songs? Here I give some to you:
Ogre Battle; Stone Cold Crazy; Great King Rat; Death On Two Legs; White Man; Sheer Heart Attack; and I could go on forever! They started as a hard rock band with great influences on Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple, but they quickly developed their own sound in their second album, which is their best IMO. They have lots of heavy songs!

if you wanna listen to their heavier stuff then listen to „gimme the prize“, „stone cold crazy“, „was it all worth it“, „ogre battle“, „white man“ „i want it all“, „princes of the universe“, „fight from the inside“. „i‘m in love with my car“, „death on two legs“, „loser in the end“, „keep yourself alive“, „it‘s late“ and on and on. their catalogue is huge and diverse. it‘s a very steep and deep rabbit hole with many branches😉.
