  • Today I am doing old knife restoration. The knife’s blade has markings FMM (Frosts Matts Mattsson). It is produced by Swedish knife factory - MORA. The blade is in terrible condition and the handle as well. Stick around to see how I restored this beautiful old knife!

Mora's are excellent knives , I have 2 of them. My first was the Wilderness model which I bought for 13 dollars from Smoky Mountain Knife Works. The 2nd one I bought from the same place and it was a blade blank of which I think is the same blade as the Clipper. I put a cedar wood handle on it and I made a leather sheath for it. Now I carry it as part of my EDC.

Awesome! Thanks for restoring the wood handle as well- most of other UA-camrs just replace it and kill the history with it. You coul have split the crack completely, clean the split area and glued it together first (I would use bone glue mix with some rabbit skin glue) to avoid using the 2K fix. If you prefer the used look fantastic (I do) but you can refresh wheathered wood too.
    Love your work!

Actually I have stopped using wood glue (white glue, I hope we think the same) because if it comes often with water and such it wears off. I am not talking one or two times, it takes some time to wear off but it is not long lasting. At least from my experience...

Thank you for the video. A meticulous effort on hopefully a good old knife. My thought is this; first thing I would sharpen the knife to see if would hold a good edge no matter what the provinence, then put the effort in a known quantity. I spent a lot of time on a similar knife and feel I wasted a lot of time, but it's ok if you don't need a keen edge. Best of luck anyway!

@@FFD_Restorations I had to go dig mine out; it appears identical to the one you restored, probably a more recent Mora with traces of red paint still on the handle but either it wasn't stamped or the stamping is rusted out. I had to do a lot of work on to get to smooth metal as it was in my woodshed in Nova Scotia for perhaps fifty years and the climate did its damage. I can put an edge on it enough to cut paper but it won't last. It's a good all purpose knife for someone who doesn't mind if it's a little dull. A lot better than no knife.I also found, stuck in a floor joist in my house, a similar knife with the same style handle and ferrule, with peened washer holding handle on but the blade is just over an inch and much thinner; probably used for wood carving, and it holds a remarkable edge so it's in my wood carving kit...lol. Thanks again for the video; good ideas and you're onto a good product with the Teak Oil. I use it a lot, and like the finish.

Awesome, it sounds like you did an amazing work on that one. I know how hard is to get the shiny blade that still have enough strength to be used. Those knives are really simple in design but great for many occasions. Thanks again for sharing your story here and that you are willing to restore things, not just to throw them away. That is for respect 😊👍
      Take care Frank
