Great episode, love the show period but really enjoy the old school fire side chats with just you guys. Use some of your episodes for discussion in my CPT articles. Been watching since I found your 100th episode.
I really like just the barbell shrugged boys having a chat I have been following your advice of progression for a while and its working! Keep working on that accent Chris, being a Brit you are nearly there...but not quite.
I disagree with the advice to just show up to the gym without a program as the first step. That works if you are just going to crossfit and they will give you the direction, but it won't work in just a standard gym where the person shows up aimless for the first couple times. Following a beginner program gives you a reason to keep going back to the gym.
Awesome episode! As someone who is intermediate, im looking for a good program. Mostly basement gym stuff, got any links to any of the programs you guys were referencing?
Would've liked to see someone like Rippetoe on this episode given that he has really specialized in novice strength adaptation. Would like to see him on here on a future episode. Just my 2 cents, I know you guys probably don't give a shit lol.
I like this type of episode where you keep it on topic better and the topic is relevant. You guy's mentioned Practical Programming but didn't mention Starting Strength by Rippetoe or Fit by Lon Kilgore. I was a bit disappointed or maybe I wasn't listening. Also, the progressions you mention of 5lbs a week are slow for a real beginner. With Starting Strength I was able to add 15lbs and then 10lbs a week at 31 yrs of age and weak diet for close to 150lbs total add to my squat. You mention the Texas Method as if beginners should be doing when I would disagree.
Rippetoe's a co-author on Practical Programming, and it's a much more complete work than Starting Strength, so it makes sense to talk about it instead. I agree that the 5lb progression is pretty slow if you start light. I also agree that the Texas Method is a intermediate-only program; I'm currently working through it and it would be silly for a beginner to start on a weekly volume/intensity progression.
TheZooCrew I was referring to Starting Strength as a program not just the book. The book Fit was written by one of Starting Strength's original co-authors and presents more of a Crossfit Strength Bias programming for beginners. I have Practical Programming too, and would suggest it to anyone beyond the beginner phase. I am working on an HLM while cutting and it is working great. My diet is based on info from their site as well.
Chris Moore Was more of a euphemism for can you stay on topic. I love free advice and that's why I've been an avid listener for around 90% of your episodes, and as a listener or perhaps part of a community that allows you to continue making content it's just an opinion on what I believe is a way forward and to keep this community on board. If you look back to previous content this has been brought up by many people before. Therefore it may say something about you in a refusal to adapt to what your "consumers" are saying.
Love these episodes where its the original crew just discussing strength and conditioning
Nothing will make you appreciate progress like a serious injury.
With Carl Paoli's book on the table, that back handspring is forthcoming!
have been doing CrossFit a bit over a year and just came across your site and links. I must say I find your info extremely helpful. thanks!!
I'm currently on the 20 squat program. I've been stuck at 275 for a week now, it was great to hear this. Thanks guys
Chris' favorite word: Profound.
Mike Bledsoe 1:07:00 to 1:07:50 Thank you for this.

But... you're all sitting. I can't handle this.
Joking aside, good episode.
Fred Savage and Judge Reinhold in Vice versa. It wasn't important, but not saying it bothered me for some reason

Love ya Chris, but can you talk a little louder? It's hard to hear when you get quiet.
Evening made! :P
Wonder if Mike got a touch up or some new ink on his sleeve!?
New ink.
Get Change?? Author ??
second oh ya
Henry Rollins eh?
Chris needs to lay off the acid a bit
Is that how you always react to free advice? Might explain a lot about you, if you don't have what you want in life.
You can be more than a Troll.

Одна эмпирика, умозрительные выводы и ни слова о физиологии и спортивной адаптологии. Разговор ни о чём.
Зато весело:)
