I have been a fan since the 1970s and I am very much enjoying this renaissance spurred on by the Edgar Wright movie, which I haven't seen yet but knowing the Sparks extensive repertoire I can understand the buzz. I still want to see a Finn brothers-Mael brothers collaboration. I say this every so often, Sparks and Split Enz/Crowded House - the number one collaboration in heaven!!!!!
The brothers are still kickin' ass! Have been a fan since the 70's. For the 5 people that voted thumbs down, I bet you were born in the 90' or 2000'. Shame on you!!!
I've loved them ever since they were on TOTP in 1974. My strict father came into the room, took one look at Ron Mael and said 'Son, he looks like he should be old enough to know better.' Sadly he died in 86 but Sparks just keep on rocking.
My Dad did look a bit worried when I was taking more than an interest in Sparks on totp in '74. He'd already panicked 2 years earlier when Alice Cooper was my main man. When I explained it's all just rock theatre but the music is really amazing he understood a bit more. I was also into Queen, who he liked himself, so that was ok. When Hippo came out I caught him lifting his weights to the music one morning (at the tender age of 80). He smiled and said 'this is quite good isn't it?). I finally made him into a fan! He'd seen the joy Sparks had given me all my life. We all need a passion in something.
This is one of my favourites from the 70’s and all the way to this day. Really good performance. Such energy ! Such a delivery ! Great musicians the whole band. Don’t just listen to the old records. The new one will surprise everybody. Fantastic !!!!
Such an amazing show and great film production quality! Having rediscovered Sparks thanks to the Edgar Wright doc, the last year and a half has been an endlessly wonderful trip down the Sparks rabbit hole. Having seen them in concert this year (2022), I am in utter awe and gratitude for their enduring freshness, energy, and brilliance.
How did they get there, how did they get there, how did they get there without getting world wide recognition i dont know !!! Just are an incredible band. I will never turn my back on Sparks who deserve so much more success ❤ em such a heart warming band.
Sparks its out this world. I'm in my mid 30s. and just discovered them recently. Seriously i don't get that 9 people that voted thumb down, that people have a horrible hole instead of a soul.
Still a fantastic band after all the decades, love them since i was 7 years old in 1974 and my older brother played a lot This Town Ain't Big Enough. One of the best Pop/rock Songs of the 70's. Last June i flew extra from Vienna, Austria to Malmö Sweden, via Stockholm to see them live. Because i was on Holiday the weeks before and had no Chance to see them Close to my place. Next day back home, what a fantastic band they are. It was worth it!! Best Wishes, hope to see the Sparks again soon, Chris from Vienna!!
Tyler's guitar work on "Amateur Hour" was incredible! That may have been the pinnacle of the performance yet "Dick Around" and "Edith Piaf" were fabulous. My favorite portion of the concert has to be the bone jarringly repetitive "My Baby's Taking Me Home" (at the 41 minute 30 second mark) because you come to realize each time Russell repeats the line it tends to grow in emotional intensity, importance, and confidence. This song is a primal distillation of 1975's "Miss The Start, Miss The End" from their album 'Indiscreet' into a seminal outcome as they prematurely leave the performance. Decades later Ron revisits and concludes that song by telling us the subject's outcome and I assure you it was well worth the wait! His partner is taking him home and not someone else. Years of familiarity mean nothing anymore, we're in this together and no one can or will replace you. My baby's taking me home! Solid, sturdy, steady, rock fast love. By the time we arrive at the soliloquy Russell ejaculates the thoughts in his head. He allows them to spin and spurt through the room as you realize just how powerful and moving one line in one single concept can become. It echoes and throbs into a thrusting crescendo! Sheer angst in the pants! "My baby's taking me home!" and we're out of here! We now know that 40 years later the lover's relationship in "Miss The Start, Miss The End" hasn't changed, their love is still strong and Ron implores us to ask of ourselves, "What's wrong with us and why don't we feel this way any longer?" They don't need more than each other, not much more than just each other. Loved it! Perfect bookends for a lengthy and productive career. Ron Mael, you're the best lyricist teacher going and you've deconstructed the song itself into, through, and past the point of conception! Too bad we didn't get an encore of "Tryouts For The Human Race". Loved the concert. Great voice remains in place, Russell Mael. I don't detect a change worth noting and I've changed a lot after nearly 50 years of Sparks. You're hard to keep up with and don't sound half bad at 70 years old!
I’m trying to work out how I got to this ripe old age living without Sparks music in my life. So I’m doing my best to make up for it now. Thank god for Sparks.
Феноменальное выступление по качеству исполнения, учитывая возраст главных фигурантов. И музыка безупречная. Слушаю эту группу еще с 1974 года - и до сих пор они в числе любимой классики.
I saw the New York City show for this tour. Took my 13 yr old kid, and he loves SPARKS, so it was fantastic. HIPPOPOTAMUS is an unexpected masterpiece, after their whole career of excellence.
Thank you, Tsui Hark, for including "It's a Knockoff" in the credits of your 2nd Van Damme movie. That's how I discovered Sparks in early 2006, just before Hello Young Lovers came out. Man, imagine time travelling to the early 1970s and showing R&R this video, the state of their act in 2017... They'd think that scientists invented a fountain of youth supplement at some point.
I believe the German and the Swedish people are a little bit more difficult to wake up! Not so spontaneous, but I have a feeling that the Guys learned that during the years. When we clap it's the same thing as when the rest of their audiences scream like crazy 😂😂😂😂!🇸🇪
They can show today's band a thing or two A Real spark of injected new music with all there longevity in the glam to.indie music scene that goes back.45 years That is amazing and are they in the Rock Ness roll hall.of fame This group.inspired the likes of Pet shop boys musically and Erasure vocally I bet I'm watching this now in Feb 2020 !!!!!
I love that some of the concertgoers wore stripes to coordinate with the band. Now that's a great fanbase! ...and great music- these versions of "Dick Around" and "The Number One Song in Heaven" are SO GOOD!
Hey Guys around the world, this recording was not made at the regular Berlin concert of the Hippopotamos tour which was played at Columbia Theatre on September 12th, 2017. Before judging he audience please compare with recordings of the regular concert. There the crowd was exciting from beginning to end!!!
I can't help it, but every time I see that guitarist's face (behind Russell on the left) I think he looks like he thinks: "What am I doing here? And how did I get here?" Edit: His name is Evan Weiss...
This audience was showing respect for the music and the musicians. They wanted to see the show and hear the performance and I can appreciate that there are not phones blocking the view, no fans dancing at the front row and blocking the view, and those standing do so without interfering with their neighbors. This is a polite venue and unlike those I've been to recently but it all leads to a better looking band performance and we can concentrate on Russell's and Ron's stage presence. Had this been at one of the more rowdy shows the effect would have created a more "lively" video but you'd have lost so much of the esoteric aspect in watching and being able to hear the band properly. Should they make a live CD from this performance I just hope they don't add raucous synthetic sounding crowd shouts to detract from the performance quality. Ron, excellent work!
At 18:45 I think I know this woman with the glasses and blond hair on the left. She looks like someone who was at school with me (in my class) in Weinstadt - Beutelsbach (Großheppacher Schwesternschaft) near Stuttgart for 2 years (2003-2004). But is that really possible? She at the Schwuz, listening to a song called "Missionary Position"?? That would have been pure irony so I think I mistake this woman here for somebody else. :-)
After all these years their Sparks shine on always brightly....they're two Angels from Heaven, Masters !...

Nah...they suck
@@jjthomas2297 They kinda don't. What you doin' here anyways?
Just saw them in Copenhagen, truly amazing experience. Wasn't all that into them beforehand but I most certainly am now. My baby's taking me home.

How could I’ve lived without knowing the great Sparks,oh my Gosh they’re gorgeous
Amazing, they sound as good as they did over 40 years ago! And Russells voice? Just Wow!!!!
Well Done boys! Been following Sparks since 1974
Omg. I love Sparks so much. I hope they will live forever :)
Best band in the world.
Best band in the known universe
aldiakaroofus and Kiss
I won't argue with that.
Magnificent. Great balance of new and older songs. Best lyrics band ever. I wish they would tour Australia again.
I knew the band just by "name". After the FFS project with my favorite band, Franz Ferdinand, I fell in love with Sparks. What a show!
Júlio César I knew a little of Sparks before Franz (who’s also one of my favourite bands) but I became a pretty big fan after FFS too
Me too, i’ ve known its work in earlier 2015 ffs’s project
Russell sing with energy as a man in his early 20s not in his late 60s... God bless you Russell

Yeah, both brothers look hot in these stripes. And I especially love Russell's shoes, they are very special.
He looks great ❤
I would love to see them play Get in the Swing, the very first Sparks song I ever heard way back in 1975.
I’m trying to work out how I got to this ripe old age living without Sparks music in my life. So I’m doing my best to make up for it now. Thank god for Sparks.
Excellent. Thanks for this great show.
The energy is amazing and the music is superb a class act always liked sparks and the new material is shit hot
wow this is the best Sparks UA-cam video
They have always ruled their niche in style, and a testimony that creativity simply lasts.

@@solarOlexa много кого посчастливилось видеть вживую, но с братьями Маэл увы не сложилось. Уникальнейшая группа.

Big thanks for upload.
Wow, This is so much fun! Great quality video production sound and band behind the fabulous brothers. Perfect, we love you Sparks!
I saw them perform A Woofer in Tweeter's clothing about 10 years ago. Brilliant.
My favoritt band at the moment❤
"I wish you were fun" was rather fitting for the most of this audience :)
How right you are🤣.... still: the worst audience you can imagine is the Swiss💀!
That performance deserved a better audience!

One of the worst audiences, watch here: ua-cam.com/video/4O88wI6bLA8/v-deo.html They are not interested at all, although Russell gives everything!
Not better - bigger audience.

As good as in the 80's !!! I saw them at LE PALACE in Paris (1983) .... They were already excellent !!!

Different mentality. Being more reserved doesn't automatically mean that they liked them less
