I went through four or five sets of radio headphones. Something kept going wrong with each one. I finally got myself a pair of Bluetooth noise cancellation headphones. Now I can listen to audiobooks all day with no wires getting in the way. I just hope they last longer than the other ones. Not only can I listen to books all day, I don't have to listen to my assistant. It's a win-win so far. I love your wedge cutting idea. I'm stealing it.

    Mike,
Always enjoy your workmanship and your thoughtful additions to the video. What I write about, is great hidden snippet of working in the reverse on spreading the glue with your finger and running the film backwards. Watching, I think wait a minute I need to rerun that. Nice job and very clever.

I think the screws holding on the wheels will pull out under a load. I would use carriage bolts putting the rounded smooth side on the inside of the wagon where the kiddos are and flat washers, lock washers, and acorn nuts on the bottom. More durable and safe for the kids that way.

    • @MikeFarrington
      @MikeFarrington  4 роки тому

Thank you for the input. I think carriage bolts would be stronger, but the screws I used are strong enough.

Some people may watch this and think, "It's for his son and he built it the same way he builds everything. He didn't do anything extra. No special attention for his own son." Those people would be wrong. In fact, you build EVERYTHING with the same care and attention to detail as something you build for your own child!
You may want to add the date built to the bottom, along with the date you and your son make repairs to the wagon X years from now. Your grandchild will appreciate it. :)

Mike Farrington I’m sure they will. It’s the basic stuff that can be used for whatever a kids imagination can come up with that will stick with them and I’m sure that the times that you play with them with it will be a great memory for them as well. I can clearly remember pulling my baby brother around with him sitting in our old wagon. Also when they get older I’m sure that they will want to add their creative marks to it giving it even more personality. I have to say that yours looks like it is better able to handle outdoor play better than my old one could.

I also made three kumiko lanterns one for each of my children, will send you picks when I get home to Philly. BTW The Beach Boys and The Beatles had an echo chamber of inspiration in the mid-60s, with the latter’s “Rubber Soul” inspiring “Pet Sounds,” which in turn inspired “Sgt. There will be a cooler in this thing some time this summer, and there will be beer in the cooler. No joke, I sized this to fit one of our small coolers.

Mike Farrington Man, that needed to be an end cap to the video.
P.S. The beer cooler fits perfect. [Fade to black]

Beautiful. Now you need to add some "Radio Flyer" type classic removeable stake-sides for the true retro look and feel.

    • @MikeFarrington

I thought about that, but ended up keeping it simple. I like the idea though.

that is really a fantastic project. love the concept and finished product. i am not sure why, I am drawn to the slight curve where the sides protrude past the front vertical. it is a really nice touch, very appealing to the eye.

Thank you. I really like the rounded front edge as well as the rounded front rail. I totally agree it really helps give the wagon some stance. Kinda makes it look fast.

Beautiful project! Love your videos. I look forward to your song/podcast/audiobook recommendations. Love the quiet anti-hype production and all the quality tips and wry humor ("real page turner!" 😉). Now wear your safety glasses so you can always see those cute kids.😊

Beats the snot out of the collapsible steel and fabric wagons from Academy/WalMart/Sams. You can carry your kids and the picnic supplies in it.

You have built an heirloom to be treasured by generations. When I was five, we took a vacation trip to the Ozarks. My folks bought a little red rocking chair for me. I used it, my little brother used it, all our kids used it. Three years ago, I found it in the barn. It was in rough shape. I brought it home, cleaned, stripped, repaired and repainted. I gave it to my oldest grandson. Now the younger grandson is using it. It has survived since 1951. I hope one more generation gets to use it.
