I saw KISS for the first time in June 1979 at the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia, SC. Whiteface opened. I saw them again there in December 1985. This time, Black 'n' Blue opened. One of the members was someone named Tommy Thayer (wink, wink).
.....it's too bad the American tour flopped, as KISS was totally kicking ass again at this point.....All the American 'poser fans' turned their back on the band, they could barely sell 3000 tickets per night, and half the tour was cancelled.....I know, because I had tickets, before a show was dropped...I was so sad I cried!!!!
Surely they must have been recognized quite often unmasked? That long black hair that the whole band had, height and other social things that could reveal them. I remember the Unmasked period that was close after this and never believed that they lived anonymous in the states.
"Nobody tells us what to do'... The Elder. Gene was listening to the critics and Bob Ezrin, who were both feeding his ego. He should have listened to Ace and gone straight to the Creatures album. His desire to impress the critics almost killed KISS. He did say " Ace was right".
Gene approached Bob with the concept of The Elder , it wasn’t the other way around . And since WHEN do critics feed musicians egos ? Never . Ironically, aside from the ALIVE II tour , this was Gene’s best time period / era . Tall , thin , EXCELLENT outfit and he could still sing . His singing on Lick It Up is horrendous 🤮 Anyway , Ezrin never told Gene or Kiss “ what to do “ and yes Ace was right but then he turned down a complete STAGGERING 40 MILLION ( equivalent to 200 million in today’s money ) to stay with the band . Like The Stones, I feel they are quite unique and have a certain vibe. Gene was always interesting to listen to IMO
