I when I was a kid I used to have a fish in a tiny fish tank which was way too small for it but when we moved house we had to move the fish to my grandparents pond by transporting it via car and it miraculously surviving the long journey the poor thing. It was really small and all the other fish we kept in that tank kept dying from the bad conditions but now this one has been moved to the pond it is about 5 times the size it once was and is still alive to this day.
How old was it before you moved it? My fish doesn't grow. It's about 2 and half inch and is 2 years old. I finally moved him to a 20 gallon tank. He is healthy but just doesn't grow.
One unfortunate side effect of "power growing" (when you feed a lot and do a lot of water changes to get them to grow as fast as possible) is it shortens their lifespan. I dont have first hand experience with this, but this is what I've read. I've had my biggest goldfish for a couple years now and they're probably closer to Jack's size than Olivia. But they are not small. Just not big
I am not sure how many people know this but goldfish can actually grow very large. They can keep growing and growing as long as there are the right conditions like the size of the tank. There have been people who catch goldfish as big as carp in the wild.
When I was little my mom got me two goldfish, they were tiny, eventually my mom had to get rid of them as she couldn’t continue to clean out the tank due to the ammonia. She gave the fish to her uncle cause he had a fish pond and my mom knew he would look after the fish. The fish became giants and they ate all of his expensive fish 💀
The size of the tank also matters a lot. You can have a 10 year old goldfish in a bowl with all the other thing (theoretically) and it’ll only grow inside.
Not abnormally- nowhere near abnormal actually. Goldfish can get pretty gigantic. Over a foot in length, if not 2 feet. It all depends on how big their environment is.
As a stay at home mom the best thing is I can do so much maintenance and care to my babies. My black skirt tetras are super chunkers and poop quite a bit so I feed and clean and daily water changes are so appreciated by them LOL they don’t even mind my hand in there or anything anymore. They know their getting clean home and lots of bubbles after 😇 (air stone after water changes just perks them up so much)
In no world should you be changing water every day unless you are a fish farmer. There is literally no stability in that tank and black skirts do not have the bioload that a goldfish their size is.
Olivia is an excellent name! My dog I rescued from a kill shelter came with that name and I never changed it. I thought it was funny, but I love the name now! Long live Ms. Olivia! She's beautiful! 💖
I have 3,4 year old gold fish and they are still the same size only their wings grow. I take good care of them and my family become so attached to them.
It's depending on the size of the tank/frequency of water changes. The goldfish fills the water with its growth hormone, so if it detects high concentration of the hormone in the water, it will slow/stop its growth.
wow I am early this time. I got some goldies myself in a 250 liter pond, they actually grew massively in the first few months although now they aren't growing as fast as before.
I actually have a big goldfish! She's around 6 inches long and is quite big. She was a feeder fish until my family rescued her. My grandparent actually bought her alongside another goldfish (there was also a third one but it sadly died) to feed to her turtle but she (the turtle) didn't want to eat them and so she lives in our 55 gallon tank now
Facts. I also think the size of the tank matters as well. I've fed gold fish a lot and have done water changes everyday in tanks before. But the success I had with growth with them in a pond is something else.
I've also heard the amount of available space will somewhat impact their size, it's why when people introduce them to ponds or lakes that have little to no predators they can get the size of a child's football sometimes even slightly bigger and destroy the ecosystems they were introduced to
I heard that genetic play it's part too. I have this one black oranda that refusing to grow, even though he is the most aggressive when it's feeding time.
Just a reminder: obesity can affect goldfish just as much as it affects you, and maybe even worse. So do not over feed unless you really know what you are doing.
My mum won a goldfish 27 years ago at a carnival thing. It kept growing and growing and growing. We think it was a koi or something like that. Definitely want a goldfish 😂it ended up in her neighbours pond and it still kept growing 😂
ive always wanted a big goldfish, theyre so elegant… once i get a goldfish ill refrain from power feeding it because its unhealthy, but i would love to have a nice fat one.
I fed mine with sausage, beef, chicken... even with fruit like peaches or grapes ! and they love it and became huge! Goldfish eat anything edible, they have exactly the same behavior as piranhas, without the teeth 😂
I had one just like her, he was huge bigger than her he was 7 years old when he passed from an ammonia spike that happened when I was outta town. I was so sad when I came home and he was dead he was my first fish.
I brought two goldfish and I thought they was both just the same like fancy goldfish but one of them is growing so big compared to the other one and I looked it up and it looks like it's a ryukin goldfish
I wasn't powerfeeding - but I did finally decide to put a heater in the tank. Goldfish are technically "cold water" fish, and I'm in Arizona, so the tank naturally stays on the cool but not freezing side when indoors, usually between 62° and 68°, except briefly in the summer when the cooler can't cool the house well and the temp jumps up to 72 or so. But, I heat my Betta nanos and planted experiments, so I figured why not, I've got a spare heater. Once I got that water to over 72°, my goldfish just GREW. They've outgrown the tank - they started at little 2 or 3 inch cuties and now they've doubled or tripled that in less than a year, and despite the careful feeding they're still growing. I keep yelling at them to cut it out, I dont have time for more tanks, but they won't listen so I guess I'm making time 🤷♀️
The most important part is SPACE. If they have room to grow, they will. If you over stock a tank they fight for space and food. The stress of fighting will prevent them from growing big and healthy. Can't believe you'll completely skip over that. Not everyone who watches is a pro in aquatic life.

Hi
I wouldn’t recommend power feeding as it may shorten their lifespan
Key word may. Or you might get a superfish. Faster than a speeding boat. More powerful than a great white shark. Can leap a whole mountain.

I know about power feeding in snakes, and it can cut the lifespan at about in half. It really isnt a good thing

Would it cut my lifespan in half as well???
he's a breeder so he doesn't care so much about the long lifespan i think

Myth theres no such thing as shorten lifespan my got bigger shes 17 yrs old

The size of the goldfish is dependent on their growth hormone and whether or not you’re getting rid of it when you do water changes
That's so interesting
I brought two goldfish and I thought they was both just the same like fancy goldfish but one of them is growing so big compared to the other one and I looked it up and it looks like it's a ryukin goldfish

Goldfish can get gigantic. Especially in the right environment. They are invasive in many ponds and lakes.
Okay okay. Hear me out. What if. Giant gold fish found in lake.
So that's why my fish stay tiny that I've bred

And genetics!
The size of their tank is also a factor
Size of the space they are in matters aswell
And the size of the aquarium they’re living in ✅
The most prominent factor in size is actually genetic
So true! And genetics too
