So very thankful every time serious, devout Bible scholars such as these men get together to 'slog thru' important topics and texts for the edification of the saints and God's glory.
GOD'S words never changes. This video is 8 years old and I'm going through much suffering and a lot of what they are talking about is applying to me. Bless the LORD!
what a great conversation. my conversion came in my mid 20's and the call to preach soon after that, and then bible college followed. but it would take years before God would release me to fulfill that call. The very ones I thought should affirm the call, were the one who blocked it. I finally decided that I would serve christ in what ever capacity He chose. I served in that wilderness for decades and suddenly the door opened. not by my doing but by His. Now I thank God for those who blocked me, It slowed me so that I could build the foundation that would support the Pastoral call.
God himself calls men and prepares them to preach. whether it be through sorrow or 40 years on the backside of the desert. or 40 days without food. God himself is sovereign and decides how much sorrow or how much grace we need.
My brothers! Yall are a treasure to us! I love Piper's comment about the Word being a healing salve or balm to the soul during suffering. I have experienced that to be true!
I’m currently losing my pastoral leadership and soon perhaps my ministry posting. Partly due to betrayal of some I welcomed in from a church split one year ago. This conversation was so timely right now.
I find such a statement even more convicting in light of Philippians 3:10, where Paul says, "that I may know him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings..." That Paul would actually seek to be "burdened" with Christ's suffering for the church adds to my understanding of why God would actually ordain that we would feel sorrow, yet always rejoicing.
Wow!!! Too much sweetest! I think I just became spiritually fat from all that! But more, I want more! But seriously it is so refreshing to listen to people of real faith. Who really love God and His word!
Blessings brothers, loved that closing statement. Its about walking with God thru that trial and letting others see that joy for Yeshua even though you are experiencing one of the roughest times in your life.
Paul wrote quite often about suffering -- Christ's, his, & the Church's. There are at least seven instances where he used the words 'Christ' & 'crucified' in the same verse. Paul even desired to suffer like Jesus did, so that he might know Jesus more intimately, & experience his power: "I want to know Christ--yes, to know the power of his resurrection and participation in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death" (Philippians 3:10). Sadly, most Christians only quote the first half of that verse.
A preacher that has suffered much like Paul the disciple people will listen. Because it causes you to be so loving and patient and compassionate towards people. This is what people need.
There's all kind of sorrows, but I think Carson nail it by cuoting Acts 5:41. If the cause of your sorrow is because of Christ, it will uplift your spirit. Any other cause will only remind you that you're still human and vulnerable, in need of tremendous humbleness.
We cannot make a line drawn about sorrows that shows who is qualified or who is not. It is called by God. because the line would forever continue because preachers dont go through everything that everyone goes through. But going through sorrow promotes reliability, comfort, wisdom. Sorrow helps you preaching but doesn't qualify you as a preacher. God calls us to preach and there is not set time table.
On Love BY KAHLIL GIBRAN Then said Almitra, Speak to us of Love. And he raised his head and looked upon the people, and there fell a stillness upon them. And with a great voice he said: When love beckons to you, follow him, Though his ways are hard and steep. And when his wings enfold you yield to him, Though the sword hidden among his pinions may wound you. And when he speaks to you believe in him, Though his voice may shatter your dreams as the north wind lays waste the garden. For even as love crowns you so shall he crucify you. Even as he is for your growth so is he for your pruning. Even as he ascends to your height and caresses your tenderest branches that quiver in the sun, So shall he descend to your roots and shake them in their clinging to the earth. • Like sheaves of corn he gathers you unto himself. He threshes you to make you naked. He sifts you to free you from your husks. He grinds you to whiteness. He kneads you until you are pliant; And then he assigns you to his sacred fire, that you may become sacred bread for God’s sacred feast. All these things shall love do unto you that you may know the secrets of your heart, and in that knowledge become a fragment of Life’s heart. But if in your fear you would seek only love’s peace and love’s pleasure, Then it is better for you that you cover your nakedness and pass out of love’s threshing-floor, Into the seasonless world where you shall laugh, but not all of your laughter, and weep, but not all of your tears. • Love gives naught but itself and takes naught but from itself. To know the pain of too much tenderness. To be wounded by your own under- standing of love; And to bleed willingly and joyfully. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving; To rest at the noon hour and meditate love’s ecstasy; To return home at eventide with grati- tude; And then to sleep with a prayer for the beloved in your heart and a song of praise upon your lips.
Your opinion of cancer sounded a little cavalier..”anyone can survive cancer, “you said....I disagree about cancer...some folks have a long, dark, gradual death with cancer and it shouldn’t be minimalized. IMHO. ✝️💕🕊🙏🏻
The passage Elder Carson uses regarding persecution in Matthew 5... any reviling and ill-spoken words done by people against any Christian - Jesus says it's violence! He says so in His similitudes regarding hating your brother (I add neighbor, enemy b/c of what Christ teaches us in His own words about these...) hating someone is to murder b/c you want bad things to happen to that person up to death. The imagination usually leads to this desire. Joseph's brothers proves this, Sodom, Gomorrah and the neighboring towns' men prove this. Jesus' parable of the Prodigal son proves this... there are many examples that prove hatred for someone always leads to murder, some form of murder or great harm. Obviously these examples have different endings, however, that's not the point. The point is these people's, person's hatred and what it implies.
I don't want to hear a man preach that is rich and prosperous and healthy. If you are going through things like Paul the disciple went through i would want to listen.
Mr. John Piper I love your words but this time you said something I didn't like. You said any one can survive cancer. I don't think that was ok to say.
Mm i see your point, but he himself is a cancer survivor and I don't think he was making light of cancer but just comparing it to challenges he's faced in relationships. those hardships were greater than the cancer that he faced.
If you are not a compassionate person and have suffered nothing as a preacher. I will not listen because i want to see your scars and your pain. Just like Paul the disciple suffered much i would listen and believe.
"The Word of God": Fortunately, at a certain point of time we received something different from what had come before: the words of Jesus, the Son -- and it is not quite the same thing as "the Word of God."
Why is John Piper always about sorrows and sufferings? I see a God who wants to bless us and give us hope and a good future. Sure there are troubles in this world but to dwell on it like he does is depressing.
Todd Kuhns// I think that is exaclty what he's doing... I have no idea how your life is but suffering is so widespread in our world (even among Christians) that he, as a realistic pastor who knows that, is attempting to bring hope to those who are suffering for the present and also for the future glory.
Well, the Bible tells me to live by faith and not by sight. I get it, there are troubles and people are hurting but I rarely if ever hear john Piper says take heart, God wants your life to be amazing. He wants to bless you. People who follow him must only be living for heaven and to me is to miss life, and life more abundantly.
You need learning. To live is Christ, to die is Gain. Suffering is what makes us better. Think of this; the words of the Lord are pure words, as silver tried in the furnace of earth, purified seven times. Understand that as believers we are to bear our cross. As silver tried, this means this gospel we have, is pure and will be attempted to be attacked by the World. Enjoyment is temporary here on earth. Do not know if you have ever suffered on this earth, but I know my trials make me appreciate my enjoyment even more. Christ tells us we will suffer. Eventually you will suffer and there will be beauty in surviving it; know why? The Lord will give you grace. Now the world grace; giving you MORE material than you had. There are other forms of grace. There is also a grace of joining the Lord. My aunt was very sick; grace was given when she died and joined Christ in heaven. No more suffering. Now, to the unsaved and worldly, they believe this life is ALL. But it isn’t. Heaven is all. Piper knows this. I know this. My aunt who loved the Lord and suffered, knew this. For this is why at her homegoing we celebrated Christ. A soldier has come home. Angels rejoiced. This is the life of a Christian in this world. We are to be in the world and not OF the world.
At Kuhn’s so what would that say for the early church persecution and all of the apostles minus John that died a martyrs death? The gospel has flipped since the time of the early church.
Here again after Pastor Tim’s passing ❤️😢
God needs to humble us in order for us to be used properly in the Kingdom
Amen
John Piper brought it home, Jesus, word, yes, but our relationship with Jesus and the Word of God deepens through sorrow

Imagine how Christian theyd be if they hid their ivory tower. This is their life, they love it.

I could feel the ecstasy in John Piper as he spoke
I DEEPLY appreciate John Piper. I wish I could sit and have a one-on-one conversation with him.
Be Clear me too. Love that old man
same here brother.

7minute gunreview yes sure.....
He immensely used it for the church to be sanctified..,
Sounds like all of that is a list of sorrows.
This conversation is such a delight!!! Thank you for sharing.

So many things can bring sorrow. And each person can suffer differently.

James Lee head up sir!! Your position in God through Jesus is more important than your duty for Him!!

Best video I've seen in awhile, I needed this.
A thousand sorrows.Maybe more than that,brokenness hurts.
Best discussion on the internet on preaching.

Thanks for this message I liked the X-ray technician story along with everything else

Amazing to see such Christ centered men talk. Thank you.
Hallelujah!!! May God be praised.
It is wonderful to hear you men of God discuss His word and how it effects your lives .
Thank you for this .
Yes our sufferings bring us closest to Jesus. some go away from Jesus.. Stand firm and stay on the narrow path.
There's all kind of sorrows, but I think Carson nail it by cuoting Acts 5:41. If the cause of your sorrow is because of Christ, it will uplift your spirit. Any other cause will only remind you that you're still human and vulnerable, in need of tremendous humbleness.
Good God! I can listen to these three whole day. Piper's humour 🤣♥️
Such a powerful, honest video.
True that! Suffering is a tool for change.
Amazing Thank you 😊
Love these guys!!
Good message. Thank you.
excellent message.thank you
James 1:2 New American Standard Bible (NASB) Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials,
Awesome.... hallelujah
The things I would do to hide under that table.
If you graduate seminary and go on to preach without seeing this, you have been shortchanged.
the Lewis lover. hahahah love it

Did Dr. Carson say that his father was in prison in Canada for preaching the gospel? What were the circumstances of that?
His dad preached in Quebec, Canada which (at least at that time) was strongly Roman Catholic

Where is Paul Washer in this video?
The answer is very simple. Vipers of the brood venom brood together. The men above are popery snakes.
Grace Garden what is the Gospel?
Grace Garden How so? What's wrong with the above preachers?
Grace Garden you are wicked
@@thelawofgrace6429 why do you say this? Just curious
Crazy in the midst of a pandemic, in some states you are getting fined for going to church

You preacher's that don't suffer anything cannot really reach people. You have to show people your suffering, your scars and then they will listen.
