    What Cassandra has going on is a very nasty cocktail made up of a metric fuckton of trauma, flavoured with magical mind control, genuine resentment for being abandoned, and 5 years of bog standard emotional abuse/manipulation at the hands of Exandria's most evil power couple.
    If she makes it out of this that girl (who's like 18 at this point) is going to need _all_ the therapy.

    Just fyi Pike and Keyleth are not wizards. Pike is a Cleric, sort of a holy warrior, who uses divine magic i.e. magic granted from her goddess. Keyleth is a druid who taps into the forces of nature itself. Delilah is a wizard with a focus on necromancy.

    Just so you know, when Scanlan summons his hand he sings “Scanlan’s Hand,” not “Scanlan time.” 😁 In D&D, it’s a spell called “Bigby’s Hand,” but since that’s copyright under Wizards of the Coast, they can’t use it for the show.

    Technically Vax doesn't use magic as his class (Rogue). He has some magic items. Pike as a Cleric has holy magic (classified as divine magic in D&D). Keyleth has nature magic as a Druid. Scanlan casts some spells as a Bard. Vex, as a Ranger casts some spells, but not to the extent of the others. Rangers are sometimes classified as 'half casters' as opposed to full casters like Wizards. It may be the use of magic items that makes you think Vax uses magic. Like his belt that turned into a snake. That's a magic item rather than something he can do as a Rogue.

Even from the beginnings on twitch there were comments in the chat about how great certain things would look in live action or animated, or how we wished we could see it as such. Though honestly most everyone who's played D&D has said that about a few of their own sessions.

    20:13 yall have done a great job of NOT mixing their names. Good job catching yourself. Usually people new to the characters/show mix them up a lot. Even other players and the DM messed their names up during the campaign from time to time. They started to wear shirts that said “I’m Vax, ➡️that’s Vex” and “I’m Vex ⬅️that’s Vax”. They sat next to each other at the table.

    The idea of watching the comparison between the show and the actual table moments is incredible, that would be pretty cool!
    And to summarize the classes of everyone:
    Vex'ahlia, Ranger - Sort of a hunter/tracker/scout/survivalist? Focusing on her Marksman skills and some magic, also her bear Trinket that DESERVER MORE LOVE IN THE SHOW!
    Vax'ildan, Rogue - Assassin/thief sneaky type, a fun fact is that he is also VERY FAST
    Keyleth, Druid - a kind of spellcaster that gets their magic from nature and the elements. And that can turn into animals and other things
    Pike, Cleric - Holy warrior, they get their magic from their gods, in case of Pike she worships the Everlight, one of (if not the most) benevolent god of the Pantheon
    Scanlan, Bard - Bards conjure their magic and abilities through many artistic expressions, in Scanlan's case it is his music
    Grog, Barbarian - A primal warrior that is very brutal and resistant to damage. They can also go into a rage to become even more tanky and deadly
    Hope this helps! Great reaction as always guys, can't wait to see more!

      Not quite but that's fair enough. In truth theres more to it but let's just say the gun is adding names based on the moment and it's needs. If say vex was trying to stop him from something he was determined to do like say shooting someone then the gun might interpret that as a betrayal or maybe her as an obstacle to be removed.

    • @TheJerbol
      @TheJerbol 13 днів тому +4

      Not really how it works. Since I assume they've finished the season by now we can talk about it. The first 5 names were completely intentional by Percy. But since it's possessed by a demon thirsty for souls, it would just add names that it wanted and could trick Percy into wanting to kill.

    • @SebastianWeinberg
      @SebastianWeinberg 13 днів тому +2

      During the campaign, both Matt and Taliesin independently came up with the idea that _The List_ would just keep manifesting new names, because that kind of obsessive, bloody revenge spree doesn't end neatly; you're never _done._
      They used that for the show, but they also implied that the _final_ victim of the gun would always be Percy himself - because vengeance is not a road that leads to a "Happily ever after".

    In DND magic is split up into arcane magic and divine magic... (these can be further split as shown below)
    arcane magic is either enate within your being (sorcerers), granted by a patron (warlocks), or studied for many years (wizards and bards (book learning vs life experience respecrively))
    Divine magic is split between magic granted by a god (clerics), and magic granted by tapping into the natural energies of the world (druids)
    There are what we call half casters as well, elritch knights, paladins, rangers, and trickster rogues for example, these are all martial subclasses that incorparate the use of some magic... they can also be refered to as gish characters :) they dont get super powerful spells like full casters do, but they gain the benefit of being able to use armor and weapons that most full casters never get to use, so its a bit of a magical trade off for more martial utility.

    18:33 Spoiled for choice means they now have the luxury of choosing a sacrifice, instead of having to go for Cassandra, as originally planned.
    18:39 Episode 11: "Hold my grog."
    Clerics are sort of priest-ish characters but they do wear some pretty hefty gear instead of robes, unlike priests from other franchises & games - and D&D itself has no separate priest class. I believe the only other divine magic user is the paladin, which is more of a warrior type (not warrior class) character. One thing to note when comparing Critical Role to D&D is that they are a different campaign scenario. Standard D&D uses the Forgotten Realms as their standard campaign scenario, which is this huge fantasy world filled with lore and history. Critical Role lends most of it from the Forgotten Realms, but in some ways it goes its own way.

    • @caffeinedelusions
      @caffeinedelusions 12 днів тому

      Clerics are at least partially modeled on the priesthood of the medieval era, where the catholic church was effectively a superpower that kings answered to, and more than a few popes spent years on military campaign in armor and swinging maces.
      Priesthood wasn’t always nonviolent, is what I’m saying, and D&D clerics harken back to that archetype.

    • @Dark__Thoughts

    I've been playing a long time and usually run the game (as a dungeon master). That means I create all the plot lines and run the non player characters (like the Briarwoods and their cronies). When I do play as a character, I usually play a cleric. That's my favorite class.
    Percy developed the hand gun, but Ripley was also experimenting. Percy took her handgun parts. He can repurpose them and prevent Ripley from having them.
    Grog diving in the acid was totally insane and totally badass. Cassandra's betrayal was expected, but still hurt. She has a lot of trauma to deal with.

    The "story" told by an RPG campaign tends to be meandering, sometimes unfocused, and occasionally having to backtrack from narrative dead-ends. For this show, Critical Role streamlined the narrative, re-ordered some events for better clarity, and often pulled bits and pieces from completely different parts of the campaign to new places in the narrative, where they would make sense and enhance the storytelling.
    I, too, recommend watching one or more of the "from table to screen" comparison videos. It can be very fascinating, especially if one is interested in all the "behind the scenes" stuff that goes into creating shows or movies.
