Orthax (Percy's demon) looked SO COOL. I love his design so much
The moment when Scanlan's player threw Percy's gun in the acid was so goddamn funny in-game, since there was nothing necessarily that indicated that the gun had any issues, Sam (Scanlan) risked doing that for nothing and Taliesin (Percy) was furious. Immediately afterwards the DM pretty much confirmed that it was a good move, but Tal still couldn't accept it lol
Also, the second I heard "Cloudtop" I knew exactly where the ending was headed, and prepared myself for the cliffhanger lmao

@@carlotaperes1031 For sure, and even though that was years ago, something tells me recording Legend Of Vox Machina must have brought it all back up. Considering Taliesin holds two royal titles, goth prince and drama queen, I can definitely see him bringing it up with Sam in the studio

I'm still a bit disappointed that Percy thanked Scanlan immediately after seeing the demon burn in the acid. That lasting grudge was entertaining in the d&d game.
Having him turn away in frustration while only Scanlan sees Orthax dissolve would have been fun. After the demon's death, Percy could have breathed in deeply and smiled (to himself) as if he's having the first good thought in years, unburdened by the desire for revenge.

Season 2 has already been greenlit, but there's enough content for several seasons beyond that...for example, the Chroma Conclave Arc was about twice as long as the Briarwood Arc, and could easily fill 2 seasons for the animated series...as for the Chroma Conclave themselves, Brimscythe was a younger dragon, and dragons become more powerful as they age. The remaining members of the Conclave are all far older and far more powerful than the young Blue that Vox Machina has already faced.

It was so epic when our legendary badasses in the actual game had these 4 dragons attack, and they were so helpless to do anything to any of them. Even fighting one of them by itself they were so little of a threat that they barely registered on him *while they were hitting him*

    • @xboxman1710

I could see Chroma Conclave being 3 seasons since there is a lot of stuff that was introduced in the Kraghammer/Vasselheim Arc (that was before the Briarwoods) that they will need to fit in as well.

@@xboxman1710 Briarwood arc was 14 episodes (including 2 filler episodes we didn't see anything from in here). The CC arc is 44 episodes. 3 seasons would be tight. So Matt Mercer, the DM, is usually pretty good about ending a game session on big cliffhangers like this. The funny thing about the ending of this episode vs the live-play game, is that the game didn't end at this point. He could have, they were far enough into the game session that calling it quits for the night would have made sense, and you usually don't get into a battle near the end of a session of D&D. So the players were clearly a little surprised when he brought out a battle map.

Don't thank Amazon for this show -- thank the Critters. No one was willing to work with these guys until the Kickstarter happened. That's when Amazon showed up with a 2-year contract and the understanding that they would stay out of it and just let Critical Role make their show their way. In the campaign the fight with Orthax (Percy's smoke demon) went a little differently. Taliesin (who plays Percy) rolled high enough to resist it, and it physically exited his body so the others could help attack it without hurting Percy (to which Taliesin yelled "THERAPY! You're all fighting my demons!"). But I really like the changes they made to the show. It shows the struggle still going on in Percy, and his choice to ultimately choose mercy. He blew his own hand open to save his worst enemy. That's some powerful forgiveness.
And it also reminds me of what Taliesin said about making Percy: he wanted the answer to a question, "Can someone who's done the worst possible thing be forgiven? Can they be saved? Can they be loved?" Percy created guns, probably the most powerful killing machines this world has ever seen (even if they're still prototypes that break easily for now). He used them to kill dozens of people, and they will be used even when he is gone to kill millions more. Does he deserve forgiveness? Can he be saved? That's the question Taliesin was asking with Percy. And I can't wait for what y'all think of that as the show goes on!

Amazon Prime Video was pretty much the only one that would give them a platform to run it on, BUT it came out so great that Amazon Prime actually funded a season 2 for them. Also, you should take a moment to look up the IMDB on this one. You might be surprised to see some of the names that were behind the voices. The main cast was the players, and Mathew Mercer did a lot of side characters. But there are some really pretty big names in there. Like some hobbits you might recognize or even some doctors.

Great reaction! It's been great following along on your journey to discover Critical Roll. There will be at least one more season. It was part of their deal with Amazon when they got to publish it as an Amazon special, that they funded the second season. This season was funded by a Kickstarter, that went very well (750K -> 11.3M), so I guess it was safe bet for Amazon to throw money at. I'm hoping that the success of this season will be the impetus for a third as well, now that they have black on white that it was a success. If you want something to pass the time while waiting I suggest looking into their Narrative Telephone series. It's fun and light hearted and you get to see the cast of CR, plus some guests in later episodes. The premise is like Telephone, but they start with a story set in the same world, and then they each in turn try to retell it after only having viewed/listen to the one before only once... so the story morphs and changes in the most chaotic and awesome ways. Each episode is a new story, starting with a new cast member crafting the initial tale, so every episode is self contained so to speak (but it's recommended to watch them in order). Even if you don't react to them on your channel you should treat yourself to that experience. Then of course they have hundreds of hours of live play on their YT-channel - most are part of their main campaigns (they are on the 3rd one now) but also mini series and one-shots.

Virtually everyone except maybe Percy and Pike get an adventure central to their character. But those two had a lot of focus here, so not a big deal.

I think time frame wise it was only about 2 weeks from episode 1 to episode 12

17:21 As one whos seen the original game my main nitpick about the magic would have to be Delilahs lack of variety, she's a super powerful wizard with a versatile arsenal of spells, stacked with enchanted items, but in the final battle she didnt do much more than vauge ~blast of shadow magic~, the obvious thing to show only viewers would be that in the first encounter she was teleporting all over the place and didn't use that at all in this final fight.

@@SgtPriad This. You can't really compare them...as Arcanes budget was fucking MASSIVELY larger. And so will be higher quality animation-wise. LoVM was intended to be mid tier animation-wise because they WANTED a nostalgic feel in design and animation style. It wasn't meant to be super duper high quality and mind blowing.

At 15:11, don't worry ladies. There's ONLY ONE DRACOLITCH who was accidentally written into Exandria by Mathew Mercer & the gang accidentally, and DAURGOTHOTH, Has not attacked the realms yet. THOUGH, the team from campaign one DID get dangerously close to walking right into his lair during the "Underdark" chapter. But that was skipped over because "Orion" and thus we *PROBABLY* don't need to worry about him for a while. As of campaign 3, he hasn't shown up yet. BUT, both Mathew AND Laura Bailey (Vexalia) have mentioned him in one compasity or another throughout Critical Role's history. So he's DEFINATELY THERE. Laura even all but mentioned him by NAME, in the second episode of Narrative Telephone. So I'm sure, "The Creeping Doom" show up eventually. Just not yet.

I can't remember which story it is, but Daurgothoth was introduced in the forgotten realms add ons. However, his lair is near or directly UNDERNIETH a abbandoned city in the underdark. One of the doors is guarded by a lava waterfall. Mathew SPECIFICALLY describes this lavafall detail for detail in the early campaign one under dark event. I can't remember who, but ONE, of the team wanted to go investigate it. hahhahahahaahha NOT ONLY, would it have led to a TPK, there are two women in there group. (Pike wasn't with them at the time I don't think). Big D, has always wanted to create his own progeny, so there's a horrific chance that Marisha & Laura's characters would have ended up PREGNANT AS WELL, due to magical experimentations that he would have used on them. HOLY SHIT! Talk about dodging death !!

@@tomesofawesome8041 He can't use the Creeping Doom as it's a Wizard product. He could make his "version" of it, but I don't think he will after making Exandria it's own product

    • @hhylobates4098
      @hhylobates4098 Рік тому

There have been canonically at least two dracolichs in Exandria; one in the Age of Arcanum and one currently in Blightshore, i don't think the one you're thinking of exists in Matt's world. The dragon that rules a city from Laura's narrative telephone was obviously Jamon Sa'Ord of Ankharel.
Matt wouldn't have put something that was a certain TPK in front o the party, and no way in hell he would have done anything like that to the ladies characters.
As for lava waterfall, theres on used by the duregar fortress, but I think you mean this moment in Episode 3 at 2:04:24. Theres a cavern with a waterfall, and numerous flows of lava that pool and flow into a tunnel that Keyleth wants to investigate, no actual giant lava waterfall
