Wish me luck, I'm building my first RC car, the Tamiya 1973 Porsche 911. I wont it as a show piece and the paint and decals have me worried.
Just take your time and everything will work out well, I'm sure. I also did a painting tutorial as well. You may want to give that a look as well.
I was so successful, it turned out great.
@@2ndLastJedi Awesome to hear! Thanks for the follow up!
@@quietrc Just took my time, misted the paint layers on and with the decals i soapy water wet them and used a hair dryer, they are 94% perfect. For a first time builder i am so stoked :D
@@2ndLastJedi Glad to hear your project was a success. You definitely followed the right tutorial. Even if it takes alot longer, always better to do things to the higher spec. 👍
Absolutely amazing job.
Thank you! Hope there were some helpful tips in there
I’ve been building/restoring rc’s off and on for 25 years and I learned LOTS from this! Some really solid techniques I’ll try out on my next shell, thanks 👍
That’s awesome to hear! Glad it was helpful!
This is how the Pro's do it. Love your patience here. 👍&🔔
Have you ever considered using pinstripe of paint between the body panels.?
Sometimes black is too dark, so i mix in up to 60% colour that the car is painted.
Edit:- Haha. 19:25 This is why i should leave ALL my comments to the END of the video. (forget everything i said about pinstripes & panels)
The body panel work does elevate it a bit more. Interesting idea about using the car color for the panels.
Great instructions, I'm in the middle of putting the 140 stickers on my Tamiya rally car (FLIPPING TEDIOUS!), I had no clue they wanted you to go in order starting with #1, great tip! Too bad I have already done the front of the car, I was working front to back, now I will change it up and find # 1. LOL.
Glad it was helpful. I just completed another Tamiya body with 100+ decals. I guess I'm a glutton for punishment, because I love it!
I like scissors myself they are fast and accurate if you get good at it. I have not tried a razor and will try it out. The hair dryer and soap water is a great tip. I'll use tweezers for the small stickers.
Dude - love the Dr. No lunchbox and Bond stuff!!! Also great tips for decaling!
Glad the tips can help! Bond is a longtime obsession!
Terrific instructional video!
Thank you! Hope it helped!
Lol. I call them stickers to avoid the DEEKAL VS DEKOL arguments 😅. Pedal vs peedal😂
Yeah... and then I went and said "sticker" anyway.🤷
I find it so much easier using scissors for decals
I was just using scissors to cut out some windows masks and my hand was cramping up almost immediately... So I think I am stuck using the xacto knives.
Great video I'm new to the model RC building and have got sooooooo many good tips from this vid thanks 👍
Glad to hear it!
Excellent tips and beautiful job I learned a lot thanks!
Glad it could help!
I have used tooth picks as well to help push decals into tough spots on models...
Yeah, anything that is softer than metal and closer to hardness as a fingernail will work great.
Great video! It blows my mind that people don't use scissors lol. I'm much more accurate with scissors.
The debate continues, I guess!
Nice work there and some great tips. Yek ive used Tamiya PS paind on small pieces of abs plastic and it doesn't have a gloss result but seem to be okay. A lot of people say not to use PS paint on ABS plastic as it may dissolve the plastic. Like even hobby shops and Tamiya instruction manuals say this. Nice work again 👌👍
I wonder if laying down primer like I do mitigates any danger of dissolving the ABS. I haven’t seen any issues myself. Hope there were some helpful tips in there for you!
Great instructions, thanks!
How about windows, mine (M06 Beetle) are laid out so it's obvious that I could just cut around the trim, not having to cut the actual transparent window out. But I'm feeling it could be a mess with air bubbles etc. Thoughts?
Follow my video on applying decals and you'll pretty much eliminate any chance for bubbles: ua-cam.com/video/VNPMeJuaVko/v-deo.htmlsi=bjEl5nwM1BXhgwm7
Leaving the number on until the last moment helps you keep track amongst the batch you cut out, so you don’t put the lefthand decal on the righthand side…that kind of thing.
This kind of backs up my argument for using a hobby knife to cut them and leaving them on the whole sheet. When you cut them all the way out with scissors, yeah, you have to leave the number on and then cut *again* to cut the number off. I have to be missing something, because a lot of people do use scissors.
Thanks. Our channels are similar in size. I’m building the mk2 escort kit but I’m only hoping to put on some of the car stickers and leave off the rally livery.
I don't know how people do this and similar liveries without this method. Seems like it would be so difficult! I have the MF01x Escort. Fun car!
Would clear coating over the whole outside of the body help keep them on long term?
Not for Lexan/polycarbonate bodies. For hard plastic ABS bodies, it would help.
Smallish fine sissors for me every time...not good with knife...both are an exacting skill and requires both time and patience!
Excel make a hobby knife with a swivel blade. The blade rotates inside the barrel (handel) of the knife. Brilliant tool for cutting curves. Scince i found it, I've never looked back.
Yeah, I know that now. I'm french and could not understand the word decal when I started to be interested in scale models. For us, french speaking people, we call them stickers.
It’s a little bit of a joke, because “decal” and “stickers” basically mean the same thing. But somehow “decal” sounds more sophisticated. Merci!
@@quietrc I think we give the sticker name if it is already sticky it self.
Aren’t decal sheets typically precut?
There are many that are, yes. About 50-50 for the kits I come across. These Tamiya body sets with decals are almost alway *not* precut.
Look s like a sticker to me. 😁I have no idea why people cut stickers out any more I feel a true deal would be water base decals. And for all the serious people out there I'm just joking around between stickers and decals
Stickers are what my toddler plays with… I’m trying to pretend I’m a fully grown adult over here!
I think the vinyl decals are more robust than the water slide decals on static models. But the technique I’m using here is basically mimicking what you do with water slide decals.
@@quietrc 😁
I made an earlier video on how to paint a body as well… at least what I think is the best way.
Good luck, I’m sure it’ll turn out great!
Decals tend to show wear & tear more than stickers. Coating can reduce that, but stickers are generally easier to apply w/peel & place.
scissors: better control
Thank you!
This is too tedious for me this is why I don't put Lego together have you ever built a Lego kit
I just built a couple with my 4 year old a couple nights ago!
