    I graduated from Electrical Engineering earlier this year and EE's were pretty much the only cohort who had jobs lined up right after finishing. The only people who didn't start working right out the door were people who wanted to do a PhD for more specialized chip design kind of jobs. I almost gave up the degree because the math was kicking my ass, but I'm so glad I stuck with it.

      Most engineering students should expect $60K-$90K in their first year with some salaries as high like as $110K (prodigies, elite schools, hot fields, HCOL) and as low as $50K (easy job, LCOL, state college).

    I graduated with a BS in EE in 2018 and it took me 4 years to land my first job ... Im working in defense as a radar systems engineer. This year(2024) i made $95k with less than 2 years experience(P1, i will reach my 2 year mark, P2, in April 2025)...
    yes, you will get tons of recruiters asking you if your interested in a job, but does not mean you are getting hired. I work with EE, ME, and Software engineers. I do a little bit of everything. Flashing new firmware and testing on circuit cards, project planning, build electrical block diagrams, data analysis, redlining old manuals etc...
    Not every EE is building PCBs and drawing electrical schematics unless that is specifically your job title. I work with EEs and they are not involved in deep electronic troubleshooting as you would expect. I have access to all their schematics and are expected to troubleshoot electrical failures on my own whenever the actual EEs are not around...
    FYI, if you're a black engineer, you should lean towards defense because they are more likely to hire you. They are contractors for the US government and are producing the most sophisticated missiles, and radar technology in the world, depending on where you work. No reason to feel as though defense engineering isn't a respectable career. There is always work to do and you will be surrounded by some of the smartest people you will ever encounter in life. My office is in Massachusetts and I work with MIT and Harvard graduates.

    I changed from mechanical engineering to electrical power engineering. Now I have to complete my bachelor's degree (cause I'm at the end of it) but I intend to do a master's in electronic engineering.
    I will definitely have to recover exams about tlc, programming, signals, digital electronics as single courses from other degrees in my uni before starting the master and I will have to move because there is no electronic engineering in my city. But now i finally feel that this is my future.
    I will finish my academic path a little bit later but at least I will do what I like.
    Electronics applications are so wide, from electrical vehicles, power electronics to embedded systems, and as an electrical engineer you can also learn lots of computer science and programming, getting a general vision of everything you like (or at least for me 😂).

    The reason I’m switching from computer science to EE is because I’ve seen a guy land a software engineer job with a degree in EE. And I can always get my masters in Comp Science. It’s just two extra years 🤷🏾‍♂️ that’s so quick

    I'm studying EE rn and looking into RF hardware/front end, systems, communication systems engineering, antenna engineering. My main gripe is whether i would be okay with working for the defense industry, especially for warfare applications. but the availability of jobs / demand for RF engineers and relatively competitive pay is appealing. but geographic relocation / restriction to urban/higher COL areas is another gripe.... but i'd rather study and pursue a career in something im interested in, passionate about rather than something boring

    Is it too late for me to shift to Electrical Engineering if I’m already in my 3rd year of Computer Engineering?
    The reason I’m considering this change is that, in the current job market here in the Philippines, Computer Engineering seems to be somewhat undervalued (maybe, just my observation in job websites). The majority of job opportunities are focused on software and website development. Perhaps I’m not fully aware of the potential opportunities available to someone with a Computer Engineering degree, but this has made me question my current path.

    Is it worth starting school for the first time at 25? I feel behind and don’t know how to finance it and if it is worth it or even possible to study ee. The debt, housing, food. All of that. I thought about community college for associates. I work full time right now. I just don’t know if it is worth quitting and committing, maybe take 2 courses for a few semesters and decide? It is a 50min 50 mile drive one way. Idk if it is worth the commute, the time, miles, money. Then I would have to move to another town for the final 2 years and pay for housing there too.

      Go to work for an amazon warehouse if you can. They’ll accommodate you for school and pay for school. I’m 24. I started school when I was 23. Just do it now because when you’re 30 you’re gonna be like “dangggg man I should’ve went to school 5 years ago”. Just get it done so you can set up your life. You’re at a perfect age, you may be even smarter compared to your younger self. Go and give it your all. 💙

Luckily my parents are helping but I would still do it if they weren't because it will be worth it in the end. I started with 1 class and worked my way up adding another one each semester. I almost failed highschool because I never developed study habits so my main focus was to learn discipline and build momentum and self confidence.

      Lead with your interest. Undergraduate isn't easy, it helps to lead with what you like first. While including courses that will help you continue growing in the secondary field you're interested in.
      If it was me, Electrical Engineering math courses go all the way up to differential equations. I would rather complete those in my undergraduate, you have room for C's. Masters you don't...That being said, you can always keep what you have but include your Circuits classes, and the top ELEE courses that directly relate to what you want to do...

    Hi, I’m studying EE and my partner is an embedded engineer with CE degree. He is currently working as an embedded and feels as though the environment is very senior and not as motivating as the big ones. He wants to switch and do devOps, because he feels they somewhat underpay the hardware guys? That’s his experience too as an African developer in his 20s. I studied EE at a PWI, and while it is definitely chewing steel doing this major, I wonder about the RF engineering field, and whether it’s mostly senior experienced veterans as well? What other pathways would you recommend that aren’t too hardware? I’ve had exposure to the construction industry in particular and with Lockheed.

      @moustaphandiaye9449 4 місяці тому

      @Ddddaah it’s basically a lot of calculus,1,2,3,4
      Differential of equations
      Linear Algebra
      Physics:Electricity and Magnetism
      Mechanics
      Thermodynamics
      You also have to take some programming classes ( Java, Python)
      Engineering classes: Electrical circuits, some designing classes depending on your school this is most of what you have to learn during your first 3 years I will say
      After that usually is when you’re going for your bachelor degree where you have to learn classes where it’s a mixture of physics classes (electrical circuit 2 for example), electronics and computer science.
      If you manage to be good with Physics and Math in general you will be good because everything else builds up on that
