Thanks. I am new to growing orchids and your videos helped a lot. I am gonna pot one of my two phalaenopsis in LECA semi-hydroponic setup now.

Thanks for the info on efflorescence. I was going to ask you about this phenomenon. Want to let you know that many of my orchids are now becoming accustomed to the leca medium and are showing new growth. I'm happy that I switched to this inorganic medium.

I love, love your channel and recommend your channel quite often. Could you do a segment on the different lighting requirements of dendrobiums, oncidiums/ miltoniopsis and Vandas?

Love your videos. You should think about a video on fertilizing Vanda orchid. It is the opposite of semi hydro . no fertilizer billed up do to quantity of water. and my vans love organic fertilizer. fish ,kelp ,coffee. coconut water. they utilize it in the air somehow, must be microbes there ? and 1tsp per gallon chemical fert, that is 4 time more chemical fertilize. I think that would bern the root tips off other orchids. thanks for the wonderful videos

Would you talk about aerial roots? Will they grow back if they die? What can make them die? Are there any signs of illness that they can teach us? Do you have to spritz them?

Love all of your videos. Do you purchase plastic pots and drill holes in them for your semi-Hydroponics? If not, where can I purchase pots like yours?

Very good info. My dens are in charcoal. It gets dried quickly. What should be watering frequency? I am from Mumbai India. It's humid here all the year, except Dec and Jan.

Never had to decrease the measurement of fertilizer in semi hydroponics and also never heard about having to do it.

Thank you so very much for the information. I’m currently in the process of repotting all of my orchids into the Leica as you have done. You are my main source of information above all those out there...

Hi Danny. Thank you for info. Question, do you have problems with your ph meter. Mines though only been using for less than four months seems to have erratic readings. My tap water which I think should be fairly stable seems to vary from fairly acidic (5.5 to 8) to very alkaline, though my town states the water is rated at 7.8. It’s hard to use fertilizer with such unreliable readings though the MSU seems to be doing very good. I’ve also been using the cal mag that Rick suggests though haven’t gotten much results yet. Only applied once. Any thoughts ??
Always value any of your thoughts as others in this space.

Please could you help me? 😢
I was given an orchid that I was told had root rot. The orchid had 2 leaves and a small new one growing from its crown. After many weeks, I watered it and realized it wasnt hanging onto its soil. I took it out and realized it had no roots- only few tiny threads. I put it back in. However, now I checked on it and while the new leaf has grown since I got it, I think it has stopped growing since I had taken out the orchid. And the 2 leafs dropped off to my horror! I took it out and cleaned again whatever blackness around the stem, applied cinnamon this time and put it back in.
Ive seen a video of rootless orchids kept in water. What should I do? Ive grown attached to this lil phal trying to survive and feel kinda bad like I messed up its improvement..

Hi!!! New subscriber here. Love your channel. QUESTION: do orchids need a day/night cycle? I’m not talking about temperature, I know a temperature variation is good for inducing blooming. But I guess I’m asking, do sun loving orchids NEED nighttime darkness? I have an artificial light, and sometimes I’m tempted to leave it on late at night to give growing orchids extra light. Should I limit light to only 8-12 hours a day? Or do you think that the extra light duration is okay? Thanks!!!

Of course it makes sense to mimic their natural conditions by giving night time darkness. I’m just wondering if there’s ever been any measurable negative reactions to very long durations of light. I’d never give them 24 hour light, but I’m just curious I guess.

+Bennet Riley hi, orchids do need a light difference between night and day as it regulates gas exchange, as for most other plants. A minimum of 8 hours of darkness is beneficial, since they come from tropical locations, day and night remain pretty much the same in their natural habitat no matter the season and are usually balanced.

How do I liquid fertilize in self-watering pots? do I just add the liquid fertilizer to the reservoir or just pour the liquid fertilizer on the soil?

Hi dani! So a week ago I made the switch to semi hydro. It was 4 phals, 2 from the store out of bark and 2 that were in a different inorganic setup. How long do I need to wait before I start fertilizing them. I've noticed that one already has old roots starting to rot. Presumably fertilizing would speed that up. So do I need to wait until all the old roots die off or should I start fertilizing while there are still some there so they can absorb nutrients for new root growth? Also the 2 older orchids that were in a different inorganic media already had their old roots die off. They just have aerial roots and a few small new roots with growing tips. Are they ok to fertilize whenever?

Do you think that the appearance of arial roots in certain types of orchids (not vandas, but Phals & others in a medium) can be a symptom of lost roots under the orchid?

    • @MissOrchidGirl
      @MissOrchidGirl  6 років тому

+Kristie Mamelli no not at all :) if roots die inside the pot you will smell a pretty bad odour coming from the pot when you water.

Hye, danny. Do you have Dendrobium crumentum orchid? And if you have it, can you make a video about it because I do have a Dendrobium crumentum orchid at home. The problem is I don't know how to make it start blooming.

    • @vindhyawijegunawardane8122

Muhamad the dendrobium crumenantum blooms after a very cold period(rain) and if it rains all the crumenantums in the area blooms (it bloomed for me and it is beautiful)
