I just discovered orchids. I love you. Seriously. Thank you for helping me find the bravery to repot the orchid I was given when my daughter died. I don't want to lose it.
A couple of the roots on my orchids are cracked (looks like someone snapped it in half), but the roots are still functioning and growing 😊 Also, I found the prettiest white mini phalaenopsis at the bargain store by my house. I originally bought her for the living room but I discovered that she has a beautiful fragrance and pretty pink stems on the flowers. Not a fan of white phalaenopsis but this one is a keeper.
Hi Danny, Love your informative videos. I have learned a lot from your Orchid videos. My question, I would like to buy Leca. Can I mix it with moss and bark?🥰
Now I'm using LECA with my orchids thanks to you, it fits to my environment conditions perfectly, thanks for sharing everything with us, keep up with the good work.
Thanks so much for this video! I am trying growing my phals in leca. I have them in small clay pots with the long slats for drainage. Placed them in a water reservoir tray so they can always have that moisture available. (Similar to the level at which you put the holes in the plastic pots. So far so good. I have never had any luck with phals so I'm glad that most of them are at least still alive. Please continue your videos on semi hydro as I find it very helpful and I'm sure that others do as well.
I love phals for their roots! Sturdy, sends a clear message when it needs water, doesnt seem to care when it's repotted. I bumped a new zygo root (which seem to be really sensitive) or something and it just decided to give up and die off. Root was fine one day and then brown tipped and dying the next. Plant needs to calm down, IMO. 🤣
How do you water these pots? I see there are only 2 holes for drainage on the side of the pot- does this medium require some water to remain in the bottom of the pot?
Hi Danni I am so glad I found your channel. I have become addicted to orchids (replaces the smoking which i too gave up). I have a question regarding the Leca, which I am keen to try (I currently use the Pon from Lechuza). Do you add food when watering the orchids?
Really love mini phals... I always get Them with Moss, but the roots is always dead it seems or rotted away... Phal that grow in Moss dont seem to like bark and All the roots die and the plant make New ones or it is just me? New sealand Moss seems to be hard to find near me... So i May try these leca beans.. I mainly grow phals so i think, this Will be the Best way to grow them. Thx for tips, keep up the good work. 👌Btw Are these 10~20 mm the leca u use?
Miss orchid can you do a video on orchid fertiliser to get more roots to see the comparison between to plants with little root systems because I have a orchid with a little root system and I'm thinking of getting a orchid fertiliser with humic and fulfic acid Also I worry my orchid will die stress
you mention the Flower Shop for those cute colorful pots but I cannot find this place on the internet. Can you supply a link please? Awesome videos, thanks!
I used a lighter to try to close the wound. That plant is still recovering but the other one I did it on after watching your repot video did fine in rebounding. I definitely need your legit methods.
Thank you so much. I love your videos & have learned so much. Could you please provide a source for the potting medium or different names of products that I can try & locate.
Sure do love those pots! Hoping the garden centers by me will start to bring in the plastic ones now that they're gearing up for the season! I just re-potted a couple of phals into moss - maybe I'll put one into s/h & see how it goes. As for removing the bark, I find soaking the mostly-bare roots helps to gently get rid of any clingers - I might have to do this several times to get everything off, but since they slough off so easily, its worth the extra time I may spend..
Hi, soaking does help particularly the thick rooted orchids, but those don't get much damage as it is so.. no real need for soaking if we are not dealing with pot bound orchids. But the damage is pretty severe on thin rooted orchids no matter how soaked they are.
So are you mixing the smaller and larger leca balls? I've watched a couple other of your videos about leca and just want to make sure I'm doing this right haha
Hi... I have a question for miss orchids... How important is the RESOVOIR method While plant an orchid in hydroponies medium..looking forward to your reply...
Hi, well depends what setup you chose to use, semi hydroponics relies on it. Here's the article from the person who invented this setup firstrays.com/free-information/basic-orchid-culture/semi-hydroponics/
hello dani, I have noticed that every time I repot phal from bark or sphagnum moss in to semi hydro the root start to rot or fungus grow on them, even though I use hydrogen peroxide and I also soak the plant in 10% bleach solution. what should I do to prevent fungus investing my plant?
lavenderiasis 10% bleach is really strong, and orchids dislike chlorine. You may be inadvertently creating a problem, if the bleach is damaging the roots that would make them susceptible to fungal and bacterial infections
lavenderiasis please don’t soak them in bleach don’t even spray with peroxide. The roots are like orchids organs you gotta be gentle and kind to them. I never have problem repotting to semi hydro I only soak and gently wash the roots with my finger using warm water.
I also think the 10% bleach and then on top of it soaking it in it....could be the source of your problem. Or at least it can not be healthy for the orchid. Orchids are very sensitive!
How come when i transferred my orchid to leca the roots are starting to turn yellow and some black or in other case root rot, i also put little water just about where the roots are meeting the water. I dont know what i did wrong, i think its dying😢😢. Anyone help me please😭
Hi MissOrchidGirl I live in Finland and here the climate is dry especially in winter. Because of that dry climate I have not dared to purchase Burrageara Nelly Isler for many years which I have always admired at Ikea. I watched many of your videos in the past month and I found out you also like Nelly Isler and you grow it in semi hydroponics. Do you think she will be happy in semi-hydro if the climate is dry? Also how do you put those holes in the pots? Does the holes need to be next to each other or on the other side of the pot?
Hi Danny, thank you for your super helpful video. I just want to double check on the concentration of hydrogen peroxide that you were using. Did you use 3% (10 volume) or 30% H2O2 (100 volume)? The highest concentration I can get at the chemist is the 30% (100 volume) one and I am bit worry about using the full strength on my orchid. Cheers.
Using colored pots, how will you know if the water reservoir is empty? I just got a new Phal and put it in semi hydro with a colored pot and it's drinking much more water than my others. Any suggestions on how I can keep on eye on when I need to water again, without being able to see through the pot?
Sara Endres if the reservoir is empty, the beads will dry out and change colour. You could put your fingers over the two holes and hold the pot up to the light; with luck you'll be able to see the water level. Failing that, just pour water on top until it runs out the holes.
Paul Saunders thanks. I have been tipping it a little to see if I can feel water or if any comes out the holes. But with the seasons changing, and a watering schedule changing, I was hoping for some tricks
Hi, the weight of the pot, level of wetness at the top and a bit of experience will let you know once you get the hang of things. But you can water whenever, no need to let the pot dry :)
Hey i need help😢 i repoted a mini phal from moss to semi hydro . For some reason the roots are kinda bruised looking and i think they are gonna rot why is this?😢😢 i clean all the moss pieces and sterilised with hydrogen peroxide why are the roots rotting 😢
Thank you for sharing this video. I want to try this method on one of my mini phalaenopsis that needs to repot now. Have you tried the lika that they have at IKEA?
I tried the clay pebbles from IKEA. One phal is doing great in it but in a traditional way. The other one in SH has rotting roots but I am not sure if it is related to the pebbles, this phal was very stressed out(after flowering from grocery store) before I repot it. As long as I can see, the wicking ability is good. The size of the pebbles is 8mm-16mm mixed. Hope it helps!
Sophie Y I've had this one for about four years. She had a kekei and both are doing well. The main plant needs the orchid bark replaced this year and thought trying this out.
Hi Danny! Helpful tips! I have a question about Phal roots: what are your thoughts on leaving the inner root "string" and just removing the dead velamin around it? I've heard some growers do this as a way to keep some roots on a plant that doesn't have too many or just in general. Would the roots still take up water without the velamin? Thanks! 😊🌺
Al C one of my orchids have a big thick root but somewhere on it's middle (length wise) velamen is missing and that inner string is visible so it literally holds onto that string. Can that root live like that or will it die with time? :-s
Milena Andjelkovic If it’s a phalaenopsis the root can still live and branch out but it’s more vulnerable than an intact root because of the open wound and it may die off sooner. Usually it still functions unless it’s really bad and more than half of the root is missing velamen
Danni I really need like 15 of those little pots! Can you tell me who manufactures them? I cannot find anything that size and the larger pots I got were made by Elho which one store here in the states imported but said they will not import them again.
Julian Perez Usually an environmental stressor. A common one is a cold or hot draft from an open window, door, or a heater vent. I had an mini phal bud blast just because I brought it home and my home environment was different than the store one. My environment is better! However, the change stressed the plant. Good luck.
Also I'm having a issue with water making it to the top of the lyca in my pots I removed all the largest peices and still the very top layers go dry after a couple days
Hi I'm curious why you keep referring to this method as semi hydroponic??? This is in fact full blown hydrophonics its actually a spin off of the krantky method of growing without running water. I really like your videos and I find them very informative. Keep up the great work 😀
I just discovered orchids. I love you. Seriously. Thank you for helping me find the bravery to repot the orchid I was given when my daughter died. I don't want to lose it.
You are number one tutor. I am little English but still understand everything you say thank you
Xin chào! I live d2 Saigon before. Yes, her English better than mine, my native tongue 😂
This is the first video I saw where the stem with flowers wasn’t cut. It’s good to know I can keep my flowers during the transition. 🌺
Gosh, the yellow& orange-ish phal, I still cannot take my eyes of of it, it's so gorgeous!
Does anyone know the id on that orchid?
Hi Danny. You certainly have the eye to pick the prettiest orchids. Thanks for repot update into semi hydro and additional info.
A couple of the roots on my orchids are cracked (looks like someone snapped it in half), but the roots are still functioning and growing 😊 Also, I found the prettiest white mini phalaenopsis at the bargain store by my house. Hi Dani. When repotting into semi-hydro with leca can you advise me re how much & how often I should fertilize please?
Hi Danny, Love your informative videos. I have learned a lot from your Orchid videos. My question, I would like to buy Leca. Can I mix it with moss and bark?🥰
Great in-service Danny! I converted my 3 orchids to Semi-hydro... my phal seemed to acclimate quickly. Hopefully my other two do well too
Now I'm using LECA with my orchids thanks to you, it fits to my environment conditions perfectly, thanks for sharing everything with us, keep up with the good work.
What is your environment like? I'm in a very dry area and wonder if this would work well
Same question I had. Please answer if possibke.
I like your Orange & yellow mini phal a lot. Nicely re-potted. Thanks for sharing.

How do you make holes in plastic pots? Do you use a drill, a nail? How do you pick plastic pots that make neat round holes without cracking?
I love all your videos Danny ❤️
you mention the Flower Shop for those cute colorful pots but I cannot find this place on the internet. Can you supply a link please? Awesome videos, thanks!
I think she just means “flower shop” generically.
Wow...u make it look so simple🌸🌺🌸 Thanku for all the great tips👍👍👍 Do u use orchid fertilizer?
Hi, yes I do! Here's my tutorial on it ☺️ ua-cam.com/video/3wVKQ6C3CUM/v-deo.html
Thank you! This was long waited 😊
Thank you for showing...👍👍👍
What do you do when you (proverbially), accidentally, create what you call a wound? I haven’t seen that video yet.
I used a lighter to try to close the wound. That plant is still recovering but the other one I did it on after watching your repot video did fine in rebounding. I definitely need your legit methods.
Can you tell me what kind of water to use for orchid , how often can I water it .
Please let me know where you buy your leca. Thank you for your videos. They are AMAZING!!!
You can find leca in any store that sells plants and at Ikea most definitely. Good luck👍🌻
If a big healthy root or Ariel root gets broken by mistake, can you put the root in water or medium? Will it grow?
Thank you so much. I love your videos & have learned so much. Could you please provide a source for the potting medium or different names of products that I can try & locate.
Lisa Turner I buy leka on Amazon: 45 kilogram bag is the cheapest way ( but you can buy smaller amounts). Seller is Canna Aqua clay pellets.
Lisa Turner you can buy leca from Ikea too.
Can i use LECA in different size i am random size some are so small some are big
What fertilizer do you use?

Hi Danny do orchids grow in Leca in a country like India. Please advise. Thanks
I have no idea what to tell you 🤷🏻♀️ cannot know until you try!
Flaming or heating up hardened steel changes the temper
So are you mixing the smaller and larger leca balls? I've watched a couple other of your videos about leca and just want to make sure I'm doing this right haha
Hi danny, would you recommend semi hydro for oncidium with leca? Would you advise to mix with spagnum?
Ace
Can you use hydroponics and still use bark?
Where can I purchase the semi hydro potting material?
Just want to now can all the roots die af phalanopsis or not. And how long will it take to get new root in die medium
How long the old root last on newly repotted phal into semi hydroponic?

What did you put around your orchid? Where did you buy them? Thank you
It is called leca, you can find it almost everywhere they sale potting soil.
Hi I live in the UK what heating would I get for a small green house
Hi Danny, thank you for your super helpful video. I just want to double check on the concentration of hydrogen peroxide that you were using. Did you use 3% (10 volume) or 30% H2O2 (100 volume)? Hi, it's 3% I would not use higher cobcentrations! Good luck!
I danny, didi you still use sera super peat??
Do you dilute the hydrogen peroxide
No. If you use 3% you can use it pure. She is also doing it this way.

Hi, I would go for sphagnum moss or a mix :)
@@MissOrchidGirl thank you! I just got a bunch of minis on sale and had ordered some leca. You mean bark mix right?
Yep, bark and moss!
👍👍👍
