All forms of cinematographic & photographic light are based on the measurements of natural light.
Even though I am not one who says that everything should be covered with natural light, I do agree with the educational suggestion that natural light should be studied & learned because it opens up the mindset to seeing all of the other forms of light originating from natural light.
This is an amazing video and would be the perfect crash course to anyone wanting to learn proper lighting for video.
I do have to say though at 8:51 that the egg crates won't serve its purpose of reducing spill when it's behind the diffusion fabric. It's meant to focus diffused light, but the configuration in the video instead diffuses focused light, so the spill in the end is pretty similar except the brightness will be slightly reduced. The product photo you used at 8:32 shows the correct way to use it!

I found this a very helpful video clearly explained and demonstrated. I often film in natural light, often doing interviews. As pointed out, this can be hit and miss with all kinds of variables potentially affecting the image. I have noticed that relatively powerful lights are - or at least one relatively powerful light is - needed for these situations when the sun is strong, which is something it looks like I could do with getting.

What about using flags, diffusers and reflectors along with your lighting? Let’s say you want to create a harsh tiny beam of light across a subject that simulates a small opening through a door from a bright room out of frame. How do you mold the light?

The spotlight mount or known as a Projection attachment with a bowens mount will do that. You will want the Nanlite 720 for the source with the Projection attachment 19° or 36° depending on how wide you need the beam.
Cant you just diy it with some cardboard in front of the light and make a slit?

You're the best :D also I tin the natural low key look is my fav, I've very inspired by Gordon Willis, Sven Nykvist, Owen Roizman etc who did that look beautifully (to me). Idk, more contrast-y lighting is just more realistic looking to my eyes, and makes the image more engaging and unique looking

As some others have pointed out. At 7:50 is there a reason for putting the diffusion outside of the egg crate instead of behind it?

I would reduced the overral exposures on the backgroud and use a 4x4 bead board to wrap that light , thay way i an not bowing out the windows but still keeping exposure on talents face even
Natural would look better if it was using the right dynamic range or shot with an alexa.

Putting the egg grate /grid on the inside of the diffusion completely negates its purpose , it has to be out side of the diff layer .
