  • I just wanted to share some tips on how we can better situate our rifles in our weapons cases for transport to decrease the odds of your scopes and optics getting damaged. Here Rich Graham (Navy SEAL Sniper) discusses some some simple tricks he does to safe guard the equipment in its weapons case.

    Great point Rich, I also orient my rifle so that the stock is to the wheels for when rolling the case. This gives the foam more surface area to sustain the weight of the rifle when on it’s end.

    Good info. I've spent my life around rifles and often see vids like yours saying, "you've been doing it wrong" and I think, hey, I'm as willing to learn new things as the next guy, but don't waste my time. Often it's a waste of time, but not here.
    I learned something today, so thanks for that.

    Ruger PRC (300 Win Mag) weights 15 lbs + scope, + bipod, + magazines. It’s enough to have a designated case just for that one rifle ❗️

    The same goes for soft or hunting cases. Scope up towards the handle. Great advice.

    Thank you. Good video. Especially with your learning experiences included. After my introduction to shooting with the SLR L1A1, I joined a smallbore club and was taught quite a bit by the guy who founded it, a Bren gunner from 2NZEF. One of the things I learned was never to store a heavy barrelled rifle on its side because gravity would wreck the bedding. I bought a small Pelican case and cut it out to take the receiver sight and bolt for my Anschuetz target rifle. That case stayed in the wooden rifle case. I am currently building a top opening case for a centrefire rifle. Typical carpenter, too many projects on the go.

    Great video. I see a lot of people making this same mistake.
    One thing I would add though. If I was traveling frequently with a scoped rifle, I would remove the scope and pack it in it's own padded hard case. When dropped it will be under it's own weight (plus case weight) and not the entire rifle. Can't be too overprotective of a scope that costs upwards of $1000.

    HA! By the time I added a scope, my OEM case is too small. While shopping online, I kept wondering why others had their scope on the bottom and not the top by the handle. I felt it was wrong to do it that way. While searching reviews on cases, I stumbled upon your vid. Now, I know pretty much for a fact they have theirs upside down. THANK YOU.

    Thank you for this video. I've wondered about this when I've seen it. I don't even carry my shotguns barrel side down in their cases, much less scoped rifles. Maybe it would help some if vendors didn't sell cases on their websites with a picture of the rifle in the case in the "scope down" position.

    Problem is flipped, you can't check the action/chamber without pulling the firearm out, which means some minimum wage TSA guy is going to handle your gun.
    Use foam that fits key points like your forearm, handle and stock _very_ snug.. have room around the barrel and scope. include cut-outs for the mags. Done

    I have always been told to keep the stock pointed towards the wheels. That way the barrel is at the top when you are using the wheels. Do you think it matters? You would still be able to have the scope on the handle side.

  • @powerralley
    @powerralley 4 роки тому +4

    Respectfully, most of this information is inaccurate. It makes no difference how you orient the rifle in the case. If you have no custom insert, You can't count on TSA holding the case upright all the time. The case will be thrown around and will end up upside down at some point. Also if you have a custom foam insert, it shouldn't make a difference if the case is upside down or right side up. The foam spreads out the kinetic energy when hit around the rifle. If all the energy went into the scope then you have a poor insert as the foam should be contoured around all parts of the rifle evenly.
