The function of the external HDD enclosure is just to connect your hard drive that was originally designed to be installed inside the desktop PC case to your laptop or a small form factor mini-PC or SBC (single board computers). These new types of PCs have very limited space inside and only the SSD, NVME or M2 drives can fit inside. The HDD external drive enclosure is not limited by the capacity of the hard drive, as long as your computer can handle the size of your hard disk, that is OK. There's even a company that tested their enclosures with 14 terabytes of HDD and still work just fine. The data transfer rate is up to 6 Gbps so there's no problem with that either. My main concern with that enclosure is it's ability to dissipate heat as it is made up of plastic. HDD generates heat if used continuously and there should be a way to dissipate that heat. If you can find a metal HDD enclosure, most probably aluminum then it is a better choice.
I'm studying for the CompTIA A+ and this was really helpful. I don't have all this cool gear to play around with and just reading the book can be a bit dry, but this was fun to watch! thank you!
I am currently using a WD barracuda 8TB with no issues. Funny thing is I found your video trying to reference where to put the foam pads. I put the small one in the center of the lid and its working great. Such a simple part causes so much confusion. Thanks for the video.
The smooth/firm sponge goes on the bottom middle to rest on in order to keep the connection stable and the other sponge is made to keep it from rattling during travel or vice versa. I don't remember which. You've likely figured that out by now but either way, thank you for reviewing! I intend to get one to help a relative so i really appreciate the insight
Nice, i have an extra hard drive from my old desktop and im trying to figure out what to do with it. Now this is an option i can do. thanks for sharing this video boss.
Just purchased one today (from watching your video). Thank you so much. Good video. I will attempt to figure out where to put the sponges. I think you had it by putting it where the other sponge was located.
By the way, have you contacted the manufacturer of the enclosure concerning the specs you are concern about? Maybe they will have the answer you are looking for (?)
There are many different enclosures out there now so I don't know the advantages or disadvantages.. This is an old video but I still use this for an external enclosure so I would check online (Amazon, New Egg, eBay, or search Google) for something that would suit your needs.

those are good for temp using. But not something you want running 24/7. Would get very hott and eventually could damage the hard drive. But for temp use, its excellent.
Can someone explain. Is it true, i read somewhere in google. The notebook hdd/2.5" hdd, does not need power to run. I mean it can be power up with usb only. While the desktop hdd/3.5" hdd need power plug to run. It cannot run on usb power alone.
Every 2.5" drive will start on 5W or less, and 500mA of current at +5V per port on a computer laptop with a minimum of two ports can power the drive (2 X 500mA X 5V = 5W) . But most 3.5" drives need about 20W to start up, which requires the additional external power. Hope this helps.
I have western digital internal hard disk and want to convert external hard disk,I just want to know this enclosure works with above said HDD plz reply
@@blitzkrieggaming7685 hello sir so this kind of enclosure are compatible with ps4 as long as it has a 3.0 usb and 12V of power supply? So i want to ask if a different brand but with a the same specs is also compatible to ps4? Have you tried using this to your ps4?
Was your Seagate drive fully functional when you installed it in the enclosure? I have a similar one except its a 3TB and my laptop has stopped reading it. The Seagate drive makes ticking sounds when plugged in. So I was hoping the enclosure might help me recover the data I have on the seagate drive.
I would NEVER buy anything from Amazon Basics. Maybe a Cable but everything is Crap , just like this HDD Enclosure look at the SATA Cables & how's its mounted in the Enclosure, you'd have to have it upside down so it doesn't bend the SATA port or put stress on the drive

I bought 1 and it doesn't pop up like that I have a bunch of movies on hard drives but it's not picking it up

Which drawer do you recommend for a 2.5 or 3.5" hard disk?
What are the advantages?

No it was not functioning. I have gotten away from Seagate due to multiple failures and use only Western Digitals now
Was yours making any type of clicking/ticking noise by any chance?
Actually yes it was.
Ok perfect. So maybe there's hope for mine too. I'll try the enclosure you linked to. Thanks again :)
