ABOUT
Howdy! My name is Scott. In 2017, I was unhappy with a traditional house (aka, storage unit) and a long Chicago commute. In 2018, I reinvented my life which included buying a Winnebago Travato GL Camper Van. Now in my 5th year of full-time travel in my Class B RV, I help others achieve their RV travel dreams more quickly and more fully. Thanks for watching and being part of the Go Small. Live Large! Park model at seasonal park April-Oct
I have to do that every year. Put stuff in the van take stuff out of the van!
Do you think you have enough alcohol in there? Lol
Funny story. My home base is a sticks-and-stones suburban single-family home with my office attached, and a few years ago I pulled together enough scratch to buy a good B or B-plus. After considering whether my descendants should ultimately inherit a pile of colorful rust or something with potentially appreciating value, I opted to shop for acreage to improve over time and park a modest travel trailer there, so OBVIOUSLY I bought a little ranch with a little house already on it. As one does. Downsides: It gets terrible mileage and I'll never be able to fit it into a campsite at a National Park. Upsides: it's within a couple hours of town so it actually gets USED from time to time as I tackle various projects, the costs are not much more than those of owning an RV, it will never blow a tire and careen off the road, all the appliances are full size, the water tank never runs dry (because it's a deep well), the black tank never gets full (because it's septic with a large drainage field), and the propane tank is ENORMOUS (because it's an enormous propane tank). There are also dozens of good small-town restaurants of impressively varied cuisine within a half hour in any direction. It's located in [REDACTED]. I may yet build a pad and "dock" for a travel trailer.
What an awesome set you guys have there. 5 more years. Planing on building a barndaminium so my van is under roof. And my wife and I will have a small condo for our home base. 🏁
Have to admit I had a pain in my stomach when you turned the Volta off...felt like the end of an era! Going to miss the full time living experiences you offered for us to learn from and enjoy. New digs are beautiful...enjoy your new chapter...you deserved many more subscribers.
Please just don't disappear completely from UA-cam, I don't think I could bear it. Thank you for being so good to us for all of these years. To be honest I would be lying if I said you didn't help me get through the pandemic.
I feel your pain! Hahaha Scott's so relatable.and down to earth. I've grown so accustomed to his videos and is a staple in my watching. Just a great human being 😁
100%
I feel sad, and agree… please don’t disappear off of UA-cam completely Scott. You were the one who helped me so much in deciding which van to get, and I learned so much from you! You are loved! Such a cool and nice guy.
Congratulations on beginning a new chapter! You haven't let anyone down at all. With respect...I have one thing to say about your firearm. Even though the exact location of your van won't be published, 41 thousand subscribers now know you have a firearm in the van which isn't in a safe. Your van is unique, easily identifiable and also could be broken into for no reason other than a random break in. Please wherever you decide to keep it, hide it and secure it so it's not easily accessible to others besides you.
I don't recall getting a notification from UA-cam. I'm glad I was thinking about the channel and I'm here.
I can see your joy. No reason to feel bad. Obviously you are well loved and appreciated. Enjoy your next chapter.
Great video.I am at 79 looking to adventure for the first time travel extensively in a van with the thought of establishing a home base after a year. There is so much I want to see as a wildlife photographer. My point is to ask for info on your trailer as a possible destination after traveling if you could.I live now in Florida and want to return at some point in the future.
Best of luck to you.
It's always good to take a break. Breaks let's you decompress, recharge and refocus. Enjoy being static - you deserve the vacation after being on the go for so long.
That's a reclining theater seat - it's not cuddle compliant. 🏁
Scott, you haven’t let anyone down!! I can’t even tell you how much you’ve helped me with making difficult van life decisions over the years. Because of you, I got brave enough to buy a van, and understood what I was doing from the get go, instead of trying to learn it all on my own, the hard ways. I love you, and I’m so happy for you. I do hope you will still do videos of your travels, or even just your daily life :). I don’t think I could bear it if you went off UA-cam completely. I’d feel like I’d be losing a dear friend. God bless! Enjoy your new home!! Its gorgeous!
You seem to be a very spiritual person. After watching your videos I feel like praying for world peace.
So excited to see you again. Happy life!
Scott. Good luck with your new adventures. I started watching you Chanel after I was recovering from cancer surgery. I am not an rv'r, but I enjoyed your travel. Live large!
Scott, please hide the firearm in your van. We don’t want a stupid kid to come across it. I’m looking forward to you new goals. Love your cool camp too!
Good to see you again. Hope you have been getting some rest and relaxation. Have missed your weeklies but look forward to your future travels.
The gorilla putty tip is what I needed for an art piece I bought off Cheri Ducrow. It's an awesome trumpet with a beautiful multi colored paint splash all over it with a blue-tooth speaker at the end of the horn. I want it in the corner of my counter top of my Embassy and it has to stay put when driving. I'm really hoping the putty works for that.🏁
🏁 We just returned from a land/sea Alaska vacay! Trust you enjoyed yours. Congrats on this shift; it seems like a great direction.
New to the channel and now you're stepping back! :) Well, your videos are timeless, really. I like the presentation (very personal) and the information is priceless. Thanks and don't stay away!
Made it to the end! Miss you and am so happy for you following your heart and needs!
Long-time watcher, first-time poster. We're currently looking for 2020 or '21 GL, by the way. I may be late to the party suggesting this, but have you considered launching a channel about bourbon and favorite cocktails? I'm sure many of your van subscribers would join!
I do not blame you at all! I think coming home to your base camp will bring calm and peace and then time to recharge and look forward to picking out a new adventure! Just another season and more joy! "rally flag"
🧩 New piece of your life puzzle. Change can be bittersweet but there are new opportunities right around the corner. Enjoy your new home base and continue to appreciate the shorter trips in Miss Lily. Hopefully it will be the best of both worlds.
🏁 Thank you for sharing your first time "mothballing" of Lily. I imagine it is very bittersweet. I too am entering a new chapter after events over the last year (my dad, also best friend, passed away & I also received forced early retirement - unrelated to dad, just within same year). All the best to you in your new chapter! p.s. Alaska is wonderful, I hope Sitka is on the list, enjoy!
Are you concerned about mold in the van shutting off power in the heat for a month?
If we are out of our van we keep it plugged in to have some air flow but keep the a/c at a high temp. We have only had our van a year so appreciate your feedback.
We have put many miles on the van for wonderful trips, helping family, visiting friends and family and medical trips, it’s helpful to use it for so many purposes.
Glad to see you trying something new, change is good
🏁🏁🏁Please don't feel you've let yourself and audience down. Quite the opposite. You encouraged us wannabes to buy, and we are getting a Coachmen with the rear twins, upgraded Rover gear, and DOUBLE Lithium pack. I also think this video will help other FT'ers who are sitting on the fence about going PT. It will encourage them to make the right decision. Thank you for all you do.
It looks like a great rental property. Good luck with everything!❤
🏁🏁🏁🏁So interesting, Scott. Just moved from NW Florida and put my Class C RV in storage in Palm Coast, FL after living on it for 3 1/2 years. We met at Stawberry Fields for RV’ers in Chiefland, FL a few years ago 😊.
Looking good, Scott. You haven’t lost your touch, great video. Thanks for not deserting us. Love you -Lynn
I love the new place and the new living/travel plans! Is it ok for the bourbon to be in the van with that heat? Let’s protect the bourbon!🥃 🏁
I've always had a home base. I keep my van loaded to go. Just add food and a few things .
🏁What a Nice Surprise - Looking Forward to WUW !
That seems like a LOT of storage space occupied by booze. I haven't checked in for a while, so I feel compelled to ask: is there anything you feel the need to discuss? 😉
🏁🥃Cheers to new beginnings!
Hi, Scott! The new digs look great. We hope to see you soon out here on the road! -Guy & Rose Anne
🏁Good luck Scott
I’m curious, the interior has wood, Floriduh is hot, humid, I remember returning with a friend to check on his house, and the humidity and heat had done a number on all things wood. Shouldn’t you leave a bunch of moisture removal packs, or even leave a dehumidifier running draining into the shower?
Congratulations 🎉 I love the new rig❤❤
🏁congrats on the next chapter!
Good for you Scott. I have a 59KL National Park edition I’ve been traveling in, across the US and Canada for the past several years. I was motivated by Joe and Kait Russo when I met them back in 2015, I also have a home in SoCal so my time on the road might be anywhere from a couple weeks to 6 months. I’ve learned to keep a complete wardrobe, meds and non-perishable necessities in my van all the time. That way I can hit the road at a moments notice without a lot of preplanning. It really just comes down to a matter of getting groceries. Just a tip while your rig is sitting idle,,,make sure you check your toilet every week or so,,,if you don’t keep water in the bowl the casket will dry out. You have no responsibility to us subscribers/viewers Scott. You are giving us a glimpse into your personal life; we enjoy and get something from it. Thank you and good luck with your new chapter.
Scott,
This is awesome! We've all learnwd a lot from you. One of my inspirations to buy my PW Ontour 2.2 van and got a lot of ideas from you including the rover van tire/ladder rack.
Would love to come take a look at your glamping location one day. I live in Stuart. I'm in the West Palm area all the time. 😁 🏁
Glad to have you back, in whatever capacity you choose. Have missed you!
I have a home base (Suburban house) in Bloomington, IL… sold the condo in Daytona Beach Shores, and bought the van. I like having a home base, and I’m so happy for you, Scott. You will love it, and it will be so much better being able to plan out trips, go have fun, and have your home to come back to. I still am hoping that someday I’ll get to hang out at a camp spot with you. Glad you are keeping the van, and still traveling! :)
🏁Scott, thanks for sharing your new path with us. Really enjoyed the Res 1 tour of your new home base and all your special hints. Your comments really help those of us who are new to this. Stay strong. You have more great adventures ahead you. 🏁Simi Gee
Thanks, Scott. I get the need to change things up a bit. I hope you enjoy the new routine. I want to thank you for all of the work you put in boosting the class B trend. Your info has been tremendously helpful. So much so that we have selected going with Embassy and have gotten our VIN # . Very excited to start our new journey. God's blessings to you for a safe and healthy future. I'll keep watching for your future posts.
🏁 Congratulations on this new season! Thank you for keeping us updated.
🏁 I just returned to my MN townhome after spending 7 mos living in my van in Florida. Crazy nice to have space! My concern with what to leave in the van is mice🐭. You do what you can but never know.
I was traveling a lot in my older class b and always had a home base. Having one keeps me rooted even if traveling quite a bit.
🏁 Enjoy your new chapter!!
Congrats Scott! best wishes for everything and will keep on following your adventures!❤
🏁 Exciting and hopefully more relaxing less stressful times ahead. Congratulations on the move.
The other thing you may want to pay attention to is your water tank--your probably don't want to leave water just standing in it for weeks and weeks??--unless you are just using it for washing dishes which is how I do use mine.
🏁 that's all very exciting news! Love the residence RV Airbnb too!! Wishing you and Kyle much success!!!
Hi. Always nice to see you. Love the RV. 🏁
Looking good Scott! Enjoy the change but can’t wait to see you on your part-time travels. Love ya, little bro.
Hi Scott nice to see you back on line congratulations on new changes stay safe
🏁Enjoyed seeing your new digs Scott! Happy trails for your new adventures... Grace (Seal Beach, CA)
🏁 Your van looks so nice. The new place does too. I hope you have a great time on your new adventure.
Good luck with all the future adventures and travels ! Been watching for about the whole time and really enjoy your channel . Cheers and safe travels !!
Will your new home continue to be an Airbnb? I’d love to rent it for a few days sometime when you are traveling. If so, can you post a link to Kyle’s airbnb site?
Good stuff! We all need different seasons in life. All of just one kind is wearing, to be sure. Enjoy this new season & the mindset that goes with it!
🏁 I love this new chapter for you!
Hey Scott, Enjoy the next adventure in your life. I learned so many things following your channel and will probably learn more in the future. Thanks, Have Fun
A much deserved rest from the travel! On a side note, I’ve been following you basically since the pandemic, and it speaks volumes about the quality of the Travato that you’ve been full-timing in it for 5 years and it still looks fantastic inside.
I was a crew chief 79-81 on the SR-71. Interesting to see that over your dining table. Were you there too?
Best of luck on your new chapter Scott…. I am sure you will be happy. Nice home base . Always liked your travel video’s , looking forward to watching you on your new adventure.
The new resi is amazing. So spacious!
🏁👍🏻🏁 What a beautiful trailer! Great decorating job too! Congrats on this new chapter of living! Good times ahead!
🏁✌🏻🏁
Congratulations Scott on your new chapter in your life. Glad you’re still keeping Miss Lily. Will be picking up my Solis Pocket 36B Saturday. The review you did on it a few months ago help me with my decision. Looking forward to a meet and greet on the road.
🏁 loving the new RV. Good luck in your new chapter.
Congrats 🍾🎉🎊
🏁 Good luck, Scott. Will be keeping an 👁 out for your next video.
Congratulations on your new residence / rental...recharging and taking a break from living in your Travolta....i have enjoyed every episode and look forward to what U will present in the future!!!! 🎉❤😊
🏁. Congrats and good luck on this new stage of your adventure! More power to you. Don’t know if I would want to change up to a residential RV that I’d have to move out of for guests. But hey, hope it works out. Enjoy! Don’t leave your gun in the van. Times are so weird now. Keep it with you wherever you’re staying. That is my only advice. You are fantastic. You haven’t let anyone down.
🏁 Have fun in Resy1! Have a good nap Miss Lilly!
Best of luck in your new lifestyle! I've enjoyed watching you grow your channel. The Resi1 is lovely.
Thanks Scott. 🏁
(finish line flag) So happy for you Scott! It IS a bittersweet time when you have to put your beloved home on wheels in storage mode! I always feel a little sad, but know soon I’ll be back having adventures! have a great summer and see you on True Believers! :) ❤
Stayed to the end. Good luck on your new rv chapter. 😊
Very cool! thanks for the tour!
Congratulations on your decision to explore other possibilities. Having a home base makes sense. There are several RV'rs who have a home base they have turned into a AirB&B which IMO is smart, making the most of what you have. From watching RV video I was shocked at the many really nice state parks in Florida. I have lived in FL since the mid 80's and never realized there was so many, there are also many historic towns / cities in FL that IMO would be of interest to your viewers. Good luck in this next phase of your journey. Thank you for sharing.
I really like the RV -> very beautiful .. i like how it is a business venture w/another person & that you get to use it personally as well for a change of pace, & time of regrouping. 😊
Hi Scott. Your new rig is great! Love all the windows. Enjoy this new chapter in your life. :-)
This is a beautiful upgrade.
🇨🇦question??? What is the brand of your front window covers for the van???? Congrats on the move and new travel plans. Change is good🎉🎉 merci
We are just starting our RV journey with a 2022 (new to us) RoadTrek Chase. We are trying to keep our van semi-stocked. We find that using packing cubes is an easy way to bring in laundry, wash it and then put it right back in the van. Another thing we are trying hard to do is to gas up and clean the van immediately when we return from a trip, which reduces between trip fatigue and means the van is always ready to go. The one mistake we’ve made so far is leaving dark chocolate bars in the pantry. That did not work out when the van got really hot. Best wishes on your current chapter. I hope you will continue to make content when it’s comfortable for you. We like your channel a lot. My husband says if I ever leave him, he’s getting your model van. We would have bought that model, but I just couldn’t bring myself to try to go from our at-home king-size for that tiny bed. Lol
Scott hope all goes well with the transition, Susanne and I have fond memories of the meetup in Nashville with you, Minnesota Dave, Arkansas Tracy, and the Ginger Walkabout. I'm packing my van for an overnight trip to reconnect with some childhood friends later this week. My Springfield Armory 911 is packed.
🏁 Hi! Congrats on Res 1. It will be an adventure.
Congratulations on your new RV! Good luck in your new chapter! Missed you at the Embassy Rally! Maybe next year? The new Embassy Cape Cod is awesome!
🏁Have always enjoyed your videos. I just recently got a Class B, and I'm doing (sort of) what you are now planning. It stays parked in my driveway, always packed and (almost) ready to drive away. Never powered my unit down. I leave the Maxxaire fan running very low to keep a breeze running through. Never seen more than 92F inside the van (in eastern NC) in the the partial shade. So far I'm averaging two long weekends/month on adventures. Zero regrets.
🏁Enjoy the cool in Alaska! All the best in a time of transition-always interesting.
Scott, I am glad you are finding your way through life and have found your next chapter. I will continue to follow you. I am sure fulltime van travel got old. Your videos were are informative and entertaining.
Enjoy the break🏁
🏁😀good to see you!
We currently leave as much in the Rv as possible but that will change when I don’t have a sticks and bricks anymore. Well good luck in the new adventure. I like the layout of the place and the outdoors space 👍🏼
You will mostlikely enjoy your new Keystone home base "Res1 cool 😎 name". Husband and I looked at 2 different Keystone models as a home base, 1 of those had the same Floorplan as yours. Very nice for comfortable stays in one location 👍. We ultimately decided to go with a Dutch Star Motorcoach. For our needs having two fully motorized travel options, our Van/Airstream and also the Motorcoach worked best for our regional travels. The Keystone models 😍 were very comfy (home like) for use as a true home base! Good 👍 Choice.
Oh yeah. Breckinridge Bourbon is amazing!! ❤
I have quite a few duplicates in the van, and the house. I like the flexibility of being able to just jump in the van and go, without dragging a bunch of stuff in, and out. Btw, I want to travel with a plant; however, not sure how to do that without it becoming injured. Any tips?
My evenings won't be same again, with only the beginning of June I think July is too far, please don't disappear and looking forward to the new content
👍enjoy your break
🏁Place looks nice Scott.
I have a traditional house to come back to. I will travel 3 to 4 months to get away from Winter. I do have some duplicate items that I leave in the van. If I am going to store the van for 2 months I will take a bit more out but usually leave items in the van. Good Luck and enjoy a break from decision fatigue.
Haven't been able to watch as much as I've wanted lately. Was so sad to hear about the change, since i love going on your adventure. Completely understand the the need for this new chapter. The new space is awesome; you're not going to know what to do with all that space but I'm sure you'll enjoy it. It's beautiful. Maybe just leave all the liquor in the Van and open a bar. Hahaha. Looking forward to all of your new adventures. Have fun. Couldn't figure out how to to put finish flag in. But i made it
