I'm just a sport pilot, no 3D and I'm thrilles to just fly around the field. I have stabilization set in my Spirit FBL and it gives me loads of confidence and just makes the hobby that much more enjoyable for me.
Hi Jeff, I'm glad I saw this video. My TB40 has a left drift in auto level. Now I knew I set up swashplate and had heli balance before check box auto level had been done correctly bc once I go back into acro mode, it's stable and level no issue(rock solid, thanks to your videos) . I didn't know it needed to be off before plug in and take off lol. I'll testing this out when I get back home. Thanks Jeff!
Thanks Jeff I really needed to see this video because you pretty much proved that the auto level works on the ikon2. Once again Thank you so much. You got guys on all these blogs and forums saying the auto level and bailout are one in the same. I bought the ikon2 for that reason I hate when people don't know what they're talking about.
THE most needed feature that nobody talks about it for beginers and intermediate or scale guys. Only Blade helis and their SAFE on 200srx, 230s, and 330s. Think 360fusion also have it but needs a new radio for foward programing to activate it! I know any heli can use the Spketrum autolevel FBL unit...but i am a buy made rc heli guy! Can't program FBL units myself. Love this feature and can fly helis that way! :)
Auto level or safe, is a blessing and a curse at the same time lol it is very useful and a great learning tool book can also teach bad habits as you can rely on it. But every one has their own way or style. I do think auto level is a great tool to help push you and progress more in the hobby.
This made me look over my auto level/rescue setup again. I think it looks good now. Thanks Jeff! (I went to Ikon's Swashplate Setup Screen, make sure you are at your 0 pitch, then check heli level ensure that its also at zero pitch with blades turned on its side facing you with heli left to right, wedge as needed to make sure its fully level to the ground, then go to Optional Auto Level/Rescue screen and then activate the Auto Level/Use Rescue selections)
Once again, great video! Thanks so much for putting all the work into it. I've built my RAW420 and RAW580 with the help of your build series. I'm currently setting up my Brain2, also glancing at your setup video from time to time. Please keep it up! Great work!
I have never used rescue, but I have set it up on my M1. I set it to roll the heli back over from being inverted, If I go in to mixing and add + pitch to the same switch as my rescue, I assume that’ll do the trick ? My real question is how much 😂
With heli’s like the M1 you’re tricking the FBL to use Auto level as a rescue. So I would start with around 20% positive pitch and do it high and see if that works and then add more as needed.
This is exactly how I want my new 470LM to fly!! Do I need the standard Ikon2 or Ikon2 HD? After reading a lot on HeliFreak I was pretty sure I wasn't going to go with the supplied Microbeast.
Thank you! I think auto level is a great tool for muscle memory, but I wouldn’t rely on using it to learn backwards for you for long. As you can get use to that and when you have it off it’s like relearning all over again.
The problem I have with it is that I always think I can control it no matter what. I have to learn to hit it sooner than later. I'm beyond just plowing it into the ground but a lot of momentum can still give me problems. I want higher performance to stop that and pull out of anything but I can't handle it yet. I feel stuck doing mild 3d and sport flying.
Great video! Nice and detailed as always. Do you know if the custom user-created "Rescue" settings on a TX16S MKII function about the same as the iKon Rescue? I have a Goosky RS4 Legend. I was able to grab a TX file online with a custom Rescue program. My friend was concerned since it's being managed by the TX, it wouldn't know the orientation of the heli and could potentially add collective while in a position where the heli would "climb" horizontally instead of vertically... Which would be bad if it was facing towards the pilot xD.
I have programmed rescue on my tx16s to work on my Goosky s2. When i pull my rescue switch, channel 5 in the mixes goes to -100. The heli flips level choosing the shortest route possible. Then 0.1 sec later it applies positive pitch to climb up (channel 6 in the mixes). The heli is always facing up and never shoots to the side. I hope this helps.
Thank you! This does help. I have the S2 as well. I copied my rescue settings to all my non-iKon helis. I presume rescue works inverted as well. I was too afraid to try it.@@frisos3944
So when doing a rescue setup in your radio like on the TX16S with a custom mix, you are making a mix to use the “normal” or “self level” mode of the GTS FBL. So it will work but since the GTS does not have an actual rescue feature you are just tricking it to use the Auto level/ self level to work as a rescue. It does work from what I’ve tested on the smaller helis.
Jeff, what Switch are you using for your Rescue & Auto Level? I should problbly set mine up exactly the same for my IX12 Transmitter and IKON2 FBL. Thank you very much Jeff!! All the very Best in 2024 for You, Your Wife and little Angel, your Dad and Grandma and Grandpa!!! ❤️🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️
Thank you very much! Happy new year Larry! I wish you and your family the best for 2024! So I don’t set auto level up normally but that is set to my D switch and rescue is always set on my radios to the A switch.
Is there a difference between autolevel and rescue? If the heli is upside-down and you switched to auto level, will it just flip? And rescue adds a climb out?
My model in automatic mode active rescue automatic without pushing any buttons when the model reaches 2 or 3 meters and just before hitting the ground. only the spirit gt or gtr has this function
OK. I have setup auto level on my Trex500 & 600 both using Ikon FBL's. When ever I take off, hover at 5ft and then turn on auto level, both helis start to fairly quickly start sliding off to the side while maintaining altitude. It's like a ghost pilot grabbed my cyclic stick and moved it and is holding it to the side. When I try to compensate and apply maximum opposite cyclic, the heli barely responds enough to stop the motion and I almost can't land it in one piece. I have no idea what I'm doing wrong. When I switch off auto level, my heli hovers in one spot nicely with hands off the controls. My helis also fly quite well for me as long as auto level is off.
When you set the auto level up did you make sure the Heli was completely level? If the Heli was not level when you selected auto level then what happens is the FBL thinks what ever position it was in is level and that’s where it try’s to go when you select it.
@@westhobbiesrc8051 I sure did. I watched your setup video. I actually used a bubble level on both axes. I leveled it on the nose to tail axis and then along the left to right skid axis. I made sure that both bubble levels were centered at the same time (it took awhile to accomplish) THEN I checked the self level box for my flight bank. It's crazy. But it didn't work on either of my two helis. Obviously I'm overlooking something because it works for you.
I tested resque one time and it rold over and hit the ground hard... so it is not working al the time. After rebuilding i used it another time and it works great?. So i try not to use it😅

That’s great! As long as you’re flying that’s all that matters. Stability helps a lot of people.

That was very nice! Your videos always get me in the mood to wanting to get my first Heli.
Thank you! You should definitely get your first helicopter. They are an addicting fun hobby

Absolutely correct
Thanks for the videos
You’re welcome! Thank you for watching!

Very impressive
Yes it is!
great job looks good
Thank you!
Great Video Jeff. I also believe you can do a similar setup with the VBar/e? Keep up the good work and have a great 2024. 🧙♂👍
Thank you! Yes sir! You can do the same with Vbar. I’ll be doing a video on that soon as well. It works just as great. Happy new year!
Whoah what? It jumps up even being inverted? Crazy! I thought it will climb up only after autoleveling.

Wish that was around 20 years ago lol
Me too! It would helped big time!
Can you make a video on how you set yours up with your Spektrum transmitter, what seitches you assign to, etc?
This is exactly how I want my new 470LM to fly!! Do I need the standard Ikon2 or Ikon2 HD? After reading a lot on HeliFreak I was pretty sure I wasn't going to go with the supplied Microbeast.
Definitely get rid of the microbeast and get a iKon 2 regular. You will have a full range of options and a way better flying Heli!
Another great video! Do you think auto level would be useful when learning fast backward flight?
Thank you! I think auto level is a great tool for muscle memory, but I wouldn’t rely on using it to learn backwards for you for long. As you can get use to that and when you have it off it’s like relearning all over again.

It’s always good to learn a bail out plan without having to use rescue but it’s always there if you need it. I always for get its there as well! Lol
Cracking video as usual 👍🏻
Have you thought about doing a video about recovering a Bricked TX16s running OpenTX.
Cheers
Great video! Nice and detailed as always.

I would like to install this technology in an 800 class helicopter.
You can install an ikon in any size heli.
@westhobbiesrc8051 Nice! It would be easy to see my helicopter up in the sky.
There is no helicopter visible on the screen.
Check your settings, it’s filmed in 1440 HD and perfectly clear and visible the whole time.
