- QUEST 3 vs QUEST 2 vs PSVR2 for GT7 & iRacing - Is there a Clear Winner Here? As I love to race in VR and that is the only way I currently race in GT7 using PSVR2 and iRacing with the Quest 2, I was excited to get my hands on the Quest 3! With the Quest 3 bumping up the resolution over the Quest 2, masking it slimmer and now coming with pancake lenses, is the Quest 3 the best, new affordable VR headset for sim racing? Well, for PC maybe but what if you want to race on console in VR? Then your choice is PSVR2 on a PS5 in Gran Turismo 7. Is the Quest 3 good enough to pull people away from PSVR2 and GT7? Let's test them all out and I will share my initial impressions.
Sim Equipment I Currently Use:
- Thrustmaster T-GT II with Open Wheel Rim
- Thrustmaster T-LCM Load Cell Pedals

damn, GT7 is crazy!!!! hands down! light reflection, mirror reflecion, sun shaft and textures!
GT7 looks amazing, best looking game no doubts, but it lacks a bit in terms of resolution. PCVR can look better and sharper, but will never match the GT7 visual quality.
And free maximum mura added!
@@jajantona I have 7900xtx and HP reverb 2 and psvr2.
An HDR pcvr headset with gt7 on PC would be stellar. I would take that free Mura.
IRacing isn’t a great game to choose. AC or ACC or any other number of games have much better graphics than IRacing
@@raymondnist8770 for acc you need a WAY beefier pc to get good graphics and clarity than for iRacing. I can’t get my ACC to look anywhere near iRacing with a 3080, since I can pump a way higher res with iRacing, even despite the DLSS in ACC
You can not take away the lovely dark blacks of the interior on GT 7, I would 100% say that the cockpit in the car looks so much better with the OLED display you can even see the textures of the plastic dash looks awsome 😀
Thanks for this. I found it very helpful! I think I will pass on the quest 3 for now.
It would be great to be able to compare the same game on Quest 3 and PSVR2, since, although GT7 has great graphics, it doesn't run at the maximum resolution of the headset and that's why the small letters on the dashboard don't look as sharp. You can do the test with the PSVR2 by running the replay mode in the interior camera, which runs in flat version. In this mode it seems that the resolution of the headset miraculously increases. I think Poliphony Digital could improve the VR quality of this game.
Flat version in VR doesn't require much power so it will always look good and give you full res. I do believe GT7 can be optimized more but seems like the devs gave up on supporting the VR side of things.
I just jumped into VR, bought PSVR2, HP Reverb G2v2 and Quest 3. Running all with fanatec dd setup with load cell brake and bass shakers. Quest 3>G2>PSVR2. PSVR2 is gorgeous on GT7 but anything you look at slightly off center is a blurry binocular mess. When looking dead center its absolutely gorgeous but it doesn’t make up for how limited the sweet spot is. G2 is slightly better but with the same limitations. Quest 3 has a new lens called ‘pancake lenses’ that changes everything. I’m not a fanboy of any of these companies and i know very little about the technical aspects of VR but don’t let the reviewers and screen captures fool you, you have to try them to see if the binocular blur peripheral vision bothers you/nauseates you.
They need to try and make GT7 run natively at 90Hz at least and get rid of reprojection.
Ps vr2 is absolutely bot blurry if you adjust the headset correctly. You obviously did not have it set correctly if it looked blurry
@@Dajlecyou didn’t correctly read what I wrote. When you take the time and effort to wear the headset correctly, it is crystal clear and very high res at the center of the headset viewpoint. I agree with you on that. When you look towards the periphery of the headset it is very blurry. As is the G2, as is the quest 2 or any other headset with a similar lens. This isn’t subjective, it’s the nature of the lens technology. Put on any other headset with pancake lenses and you’ll see what I’m talking about.
I'm glad you went back from the Q3 to the Q2, you usually notice the difference more when going back to the lesser model. I think they are very different products, I mean PSVR2 and the Quest, and it definitely comes down to what you plan on using them on. In VR, software is as important as hardware, so not only you need to purchase the whole platform to use the headset, but you also need to buy the games, and that's very important. Nice video 👍🏻
Thanks. Yeah, it was more noticeable when going back to the Q2 after the Q3. Same thing happened when I went back to my T150 Wheel after using the T-GT II. The difference was really seen when I did that between the two.
u r the most crispy youtuber i hv seen so far, good job man loved it, good luck with your channel
Thanks
Currently have the Meta Crisp 2, still on the fence if I should upgrade to the Meta Crisp 3.
Joking aside, appreciate your time doing this comparison.
If they refresh/improved the installed game I have on the Q2 I may upgrade to Q3.
Cheers
what he didnt talk about is the FOV and comfort improvement. For standalone games my quest 3 is so much better inpcvr it's definitely better for the lense clarity, but that FOV improvement in quest 3 in the taker for me. seems so much more open. plus having the dial for ip adjustments is wonderful. really get that precise dialing in. much easier to get the "sweet spot"
plus the overall view is clearer not just the little section right in front of your eyes. overall big imprvement for those reasons
If you use the headset for regular VR games, it's a definite for the upgrade.
Thank you very much. It shows the differences very well. The Q3 is the clear winner, but the difference to the Q2 is not very much. The Q3 has a higher Resolution than the Q2. That is it. How would a pico 4 performe in comparison? I think it would be like the Q3.
Looking forward to seeing PSVR2 vs Q3, same game, on PC 👀
I was gonna ask why you didn't compare games that were all on these platforms but then I realized this was a racing sim channel. Lol.
😁
Owned the Q2 Q3 and the PSVR2. Q3 is better than the Q2 in visuals obviously, but mainly because of the lenses and FOV, not the resolution. It's about edge to edge clarity and forgiveness of the sweet spot. I didn't notice improvement or degradation in color, blackness or brightness. As of the PSVR 2 - I always notice better color and blackness, it's such a treat! PSVR 2 has noticeable brighter screen, but I don't think it is a huge advantage, it seems that brightness doesn't matter... But in terms of display quality PSVR 2 has two big problems - it has very small sweet spot (less than Q2 and it is very noticeable), and also Mura effect. For me Mura effect is not a big problem, but it is tiresome to setup headset right on to sweet spot everyday and every five minutes of gameplay. Especially when Q3 gives an option to not do it.
As a headsets in general - I advice everyone to buy Q3. If you don't have money - buy Q2. PSVR2 probably has the best picture quality, but in general it isn't worth it I think
I actually think the Quest 3 offers better picture quality with it's sharpness and edge to edge clarity, but PSVR2 and GT7 is still my jam right now. If PSVR2 used an LCD screen, which would have gotten rid of the dirty screen effect, I think it would have been next level quality, but people are more happy with the color pop, contrast and deeper black levels I guess of the OLED screen.
I have the original quest and the quest 2 and psvr2 with the PSVr the sweet spot is killing me and sometimes I get some weird drifting cuz of traction doesn't work properly. I prefer the original Oculus cuz it's oled display but it's heavy on the head but I have a aftermarket head strap for it which makes it comfortable. I still haven't tried q3@@thecasualracinggamer
Awesome video mate 👍
Thanks!
I'll be getting a Quest 3 for Christmas, it will be interesting to see how it compares with my Reverb G2 for racing sims. I haven't really been around here since this became the GT7 channel, but hope all is going well :)
Folks here have been saying picture wise they are on par, but the pancake lenses make give the Quest 3 an advantage.
They're all the same.
I'm waiting until there is a breakthrough in optics that allow 200 plus FOV.
That paired with OLED and you have something.
All headsets still have that binocular effect.
doesnt close things always look blurry in vr because your eyes try to focus on close but the actual image isnt close?
I don't have issues seeing close things. No different than what I would see in real life.
I'd like to see a comparison between the Quest 3 and the Reverb G2. My biggest issue with the Quests is battery life, even with the cable. I do a decent amount of endurance racing, so I need to be able to run long stints without any issues. I've read that the Quest 2 will give you a low battery message that doesn't go away until you let it charge up for a bit. Plus, I'd imagine that constantly topping it off isn't very good for the battery long term. Is that true of the Quest 3? Of course, those potential quirks are offset by the ability to play other VR games wirelessly. I'm looking to upgrade from a Rift S. I currently don't play other games on it because I don't have room where my sim rig is. It would be cool to be able to take it to a better area or even outside. Thoughts?
I have had no issue with Quest 2 and battery life. It didn't lose battery enough to affect me. I have always been able to go for a few hours with no issues. The Reverb G2 just for sim racing might look better as you won't get any compression and it's made specifically for PCVR. If you will do other VR stuff, the wireless feature of the Quest 3 is the best out there and a nice quality jump over the Quest 2.
I do endurance racing too, and actually you can get a cable with a built-in 5V charger capability to remedy that. Mine now usually gets down to 80% when not used, due to battery management I'd imagine, then gets to a 100% after 20-30 minutes while in use. :)
another option is a small powerbank. they make little strap that connect it to the headset, and if it supports 5v charging, the headset can run 6 or more hours at a time. depending on whats being demanded of the headset, sometimes it'll charge faster than being used, or slightly slower. so you may want to have it plugged in the entire time you play.
The Quest 3 is unfortunately worse in that regard, there's a noticeable bump in power draw over the Q2 and playing over a link cable or even a standard battery bank with virtual desktop is going to drain the internal power. That said, without using any of the mixed reality features it's only going to go down about 10% every hour. MR ups it to 20% every hour.
I appreciate this video. I’m just finishing my first sim in the next 3 days and I have had the Quest 2 from a few years ago. Of course I thought I need to buy a Quest 3, until now. The difference I see is definitely not enough to spend $500 more. If I dint have a Quest 2, I would in a heartbeat, but damn, all 3 looked great to me.
I've been waiting for a video comparing the 2 the 3. Debating if I should get the 3 or save for the pimax crystal.
You should do a screen shot or 10 second video of all 3 at the exact same spot and put them all up side by side for comparison.
The problem is the screenshots don't represent what you actually see in the headset.
i got both, quest 3 has better resolution and is clear from left to right in the lenses, quest 2 has a small sweet spot but not great on the corners of the lenses and lower resolution
I wouldn't go for Pimax just due to their customer support/history with the community. I'd say if you wanted to go high end right now it would be between the Bigscreen and Varjo Aero. Pimax has the highest clarity screens but I don't personally think it's worth dealing with them if/when something goes wrong.
If you don't have trackers and a beefy PC then I'd say just get the Quest 3 and save for the upgrade later.
@@KaoruSugimura I have a 3080ti and 12700k, I currently have the 2 and hate the screen door effect. Is the quest 3 worth the upgrade from the 2?
yes @@rusty4104
To match the graphics of GT7 with Psvr2 you need a high level PC, that's for sure.
Yeah, for what the PS5 offers as far as power for price, it's a great piece of hardware. Also, eye tracking in PSVR2 allows devs to concentrate all the gpu power to only where you are looking which is huge.
I think its time for your first giveaway.
to the first comment on this video for example. I'll take the quest 3 thanks so much ;)
🤣🤣🤣
Great video!
Thank you.
And please can you tell which one is better PCVR2 or Q3 for watching movies, Picture Quality wise...........Thanks
Well, Quest 3 will have more ways to watch movies and also being wireless, you can watch them anywhere. The only thing I would say would be better on PSVR2 is the black levels and contrast due to the OLED screen. For me, I would definitely go with a Quest 3 for movie viewing. The clarity on a Quest 3 is great, and the lenses put it over the top.
Now I know that if I want crispy crisps for breakfast I go on a quest to Mcikky Diiieezz
Yo, make sure to pick up one for me!
How can I set it up for my meta quest 3?
Set up what?
Quick option. Rift S or Quest 3 with a 5800x3d and 3070 for iracing? I worry on the 3070.
While the Rift S won't have compression, it will be a much lower res screen and also the screen door effect will be way more noticeable over the Quest 3. I think the Quest 3 will probably look better using a 3070. I would try a Quest 3 first from somewhere you can return it and see how it performs for you. Overall it's a way better headset than the Rift S, and I also have a Rift S
@@thecasualracinggamer thanks for the input. Love your videos.
What's the name of this for Quest 3? I can't seem to find it.
It's on PC. Not the stand-alone headset.
@@thecasualracinggamer Thanks. I haven’t gamed in decades. Purchased the MQ3 because my nephew had me put on his Q2. Loved it, but some things I’m working through.
It's a great headset. You can also hook it up to a PC and use it as a PCVR headset which is what you see here. If you are looking for a racing game on the headset, there is a game called GRID LEGENDS you can check out.
Hi! But what is your computer hardware?
RTX 3080, i7, 32GB RAM
Does the link cable make a big difference versus Wifi connection to your PC?
-Senior Chief_VR
I don't ever use wireless for sim racing. To many things that can effect gameplay.
Just bought the link cable. Quest 3 due to arrive today prior to 10pm. I’ll try the link cable on the quest 2 and see if I see a difference.
Let me know what you think once you try it.
The link cable has improved the image quality. The quest 3 wifi to PC connection has some issues works great with link cable. The quest 2 wifi to PC has no issues, works great, @@thecasualracinggamer
So the Q3 is not immediately noticeably better than the Q2 in iracing?
If it ain’t then I won’t pick one up today.
If you think the Quest 2 doesn't look good you might be impressed more with the Quest 3. I personally always thought the Quest 2 looked good and was nice and clear. When going from a Quest 1 or Rift S to a Quest 2, the jump in clarity was huge. Going from a Quest 2 to a Quest 3 for iRacing didn't make me feel the same as moving up from those. The Quest 3 is definitely sharp and clear and I think it has to do with the better lenses but if you look at the max resolution in the Quest app slider, they are pretty similair to each other even though the Quest 3 is a higher resolution headset.
They might need to update the app and headset to allow 120Hz for Link as my option only went up to 90Hz currently. I would say purchase from somewhere that you can return in case the price doesn't justify the bump over the Quest 2 for PCVR. Unfortunately we are limited to USB-C for PCVR and they don't give the option for a display port connection. That would have been a game changer.
@@thecasualracinggamer yeah I always felt Q2 really struggled with stuff in the distance. The car cockpit is awesome but if I wanna see 100m up the road it’s rubbish. Like the 300/200/100m boards don’t come into focus until they are above your wing mirror 😂 I have a 3080ti and Ryzen 5900x so the pc is ok.
Just felt VR wasn’t quite there yet. If the distance visuals are better I would buy one.
Thanks dude
@VansCampingLife There definitely seems to be a bump in clarity.
@@thecasualracinggamer Hiya, great video... just a question about the same max resolution: Can't you simply use the oculus debug tool, or oculus tray tool to supersample beyond 1.3 in standard app? Would that make a difference? I'm thinking about upgrading from the 2, to 3, but I'm sort of happy with the 2 with my current settings, so would only want to spend money if the upgrade is very noticable. Cheers!
So the Oculus app was supposed to replace using the debug tool to oversample. I am not sure if it works the same way it used to and if it will override on top of what you set in the app.
My SS toggle goes up to 1.7. Yours maxes out at 1.3?
Yes. What resolution does it show when you are at 1.7?
@@thecasualracinggamer Oh, I see the issue. At 72hz it only goes to 1.3. At 90hz it will go up to 1.5. Not 1.7. 1.7 is at 120hz on Quest 2. You could still click 90hz and get up to 1.5 though.
But the resolution will be the same. It's just a higher number showing how much harder your PC will be working at that resolution and frame rate.
There isn’t a game that’s on quest and psvr2 you can compare?
There are but I use my headsets for sim racing.
I wish all the Quest 3 users a Merry Crispness. 😜
😁
I had the oportunity to try the HTC Vive XR elite with a rtx 4090 rig, that is at a similar level to the psvr2, the others do not even compare, and the handling model in GT7 is way improved over the previous games, I still say ACC is the best by feeling, but GT7 exceeded my expectations, I was afraid that they will just recycle a lot of GT Sport and call it a new game, but I was surprised that they put in the work to make a good game, I would have liked more tracks.
Let's hope AC2 gives us good VR support. ACC has terrible VR support on PC and no VR on console.
@@thecasualracinggamer I played a lot of Dirt Rally 2.0, and I am sad that with WRC23, they are not even planing to make psvr2 support, and pcvr only comes with a later patch who knows when.
It's sad that developers are not giving PSVR2 the love it deserves for racing games. We haven't even got a single VR update in GT7 to fix anything or to improve the VR experience since the release. It's like PD abandoned their VR support. They were like here is VR, but you are not getting any improvements or fixes for it, so hope you like it as is.
Now compare the total cost of a PC to run iRacing VR and the Quest 3 to a PS5 and PSVR2?
No one is arguing that a PC setup will run more. Headsets, though, are priced the same.
@@thecasualracinggamer but only one can utilise a £350 PS5 to run VR. The others need a £1500 PC to run ACC in VR at a half decent setting.
if you want to make a serious pcvr video on quest 3 you need to use virtual desktop . it's a day and night difference. Also what is your rig?
I wouldn't use wireless for sim racing. I use a TGT 2 and load cell pedals.
What are you on? Yes VD is superior compared to airlink, but not compared to link cable with cranked up settings lol. Have both q2 and q3
Yes there was improvement in the Q3 like going from 720p to1080p over the Q2, not huge but evident for sim racing. Warplanes in stand alone was very noticeable. Along with mixed reality, less over hang of the slimmer Q3, good pass through, no doubt about Q3 being top dog.
Mixed reality has me actually using the headset for more than just sim racing.
I recommend getting a pop filter on your mic and distancing further from the mic. Despite this being an excellent video, the audio pop on your voice is extremely irritating to listen to.
I have one. It's just me being to close to the mic and the filter being to close too.
Ciao quale è il migliore ? E perché in italiano GRAZIE ❤
Sorry, I don't speak Italian, but Quest 3 is better than Quest 2, and for console you only have PSVR2 which does a great job on that side. Quest 3 requires good hardware to preform well for PCVR while PSVR2 is going to give everyone a great experience.
GT7 looks real life bruh :P the quest looks like video game look no shadows no light reflections or anything inside the car.
While I love GT7, I actually feel the opposite. I think the OLED screen exaggerates the colors, making them very poppy with lots of contrast. The Quests LCD panel is more muted and probably closer to real life.
The reason quest letters look sharp is because of less graphics, gt7 imo looked more realistic and sounded more realistic.
The Quest 3 looks sharp no matter what the game, nothing to do with less graphics. The lenses and resolution make the clarity and sharpness look great.
Hi and thanks for your video
There are a lot of games coming to psvr2 as you’d expect but it’s quality rather than quantity that counts but really am on the fence as to wether to buy a psvr2/quest 3 at the moment .
The reason I state this and never thought I’d say this and a I know a lot of people especially those who own a psvr2 already will disagree with me, but I have to admit that the quest 3 has been surprisingly better than I had anticipated and up to now the psvr 2 has been a bit disappointing in terms of the quality games it has to offer since it released a handful of very good showcase games like horizon and re8 - but since then most look like first generation vr titles . And just judging from the videos of a lot of the upcoming psvr2 games they hardly look that much better graphically than the better psvr 1 titles like rush of blood or re7 or Batman Arkham - Just hoping this is due to it being early days and they’ll be a lot more graphically impressive games to come for psvr2 even though all I can see coming right now that’s on a par with the first showcase games is resident evil 4 and even some of the graphics in that game don’t look that great . I feel the only real advantage the psvr2 can offer over the q3 is the graphical fidelity of the games and haptics but If Sony don’t pull there hands out of there pockets and start producing better graphically appealing games that match what the power of the ps5 can offer then they’re going to start to fall behind meta and you might as well buy a quest 3 as you get similar mobile games on almost the same graphical level as most psvr2 games - looks at Asgard’s wrath or red matter 2 on the mobile quest 3 - and then there will be quest 3 exclusive games coming soon which will probably be even better graphically and with all this you don’t need to attach it to a pc/console and you get mixed reality , wireless roomscale and better clearer optics with better field of view and it’s cheaper especially as you don’t need to buy a pc/console to run it necessarily . If psvr2 doesn’t start producing better graphical games all you really have over quest 3 are better haptics. And if you can even attach the quest3 to a pc you can even get graphically impressive games like half life alyx and a there are a lot more experiences and these are a lot cheaper or even free also and there’s loads of flexibility in what you can do with it attached to a pc but with psvr2 your just stuck with the Sony ecosystem which is pretty limited unless developers find a way to use it on pc . Also quest 3 supports 3D movies and gaming and is backwards compatible with the older quest 2 games and generally there will be a lot more games and experiences and support and mods and updates judging by its present popularity and what the q2 had - it’s almost a no brainer to buy a quest 3 over a psvr2 right now. But graphical fidelity in vr games is a big thing for me so am going to wait for the next half year and see how things progress before I decide to buy either though .
Do you really think psvr2 is that much of a leap over psvr1 for most of the games psvr2 has to offer right now ? especially if you have to buy a ps5 as well as the headset and the expensive games and , Yes , I know the resolution and the haptics and the freedom of roomscale is better but does it justify paying over £1000 for a new psvr2 and ps5 at the moment when you can get a quest 3 for less than half the price ? 🤔
Outside of sim racing, the Quest 3 for me would be the recommended buy for just VR gaming. It's a great headset. Mixed reality is awesome, and wireless VR is a game changer for anything that requires standing up.
@@thecasualracinggamer Thanks for your support !
The quest 3 was running at 72hz, I didn’t think it had 72hz?
Same, LOL. I also think it's funny that the 120Hz option isn't there either. The headset was marketed as 90Hz and 120Hz.
72,80 and 90 via the link.
@leedove7255 I would think there would be an update to 120Hz for it as the Quest 2 is capable via Link. Not that it will affect me, I never run my headset that high via Link. You are just asking for a bad experience at that point. 😁
So VR is only about crispness
🏎️🏎️🏎️
the meta quest pro has better blacks than the Q3
True
the winner is Bigscreen Beyond VR
Or maybe Pimax, but I can only compare what I've owned.
The quest 2 is way too blurry from my experience
You need to have a beefy PC and be able to push the resolution all the way up as well as the bit rate. If you can't do this for the Quest 2, it will be the same issue for the Quest 3. Lower resolution and lots of compression.
U not comparing the set ups etc psvr2 wins every time for everything
What do you mean compare setups?
@@thecasualracinggamer I’ll explain, first of all how easy is it to setup the vr headsets ie psvr has just one wire an it’s practically plug an go , however on a pc it ain’t so easy to setup especially for someone who isn’t massively experienced in how to work around a pc so what I’m saying is u cannot just simply plug vr into pc an off u go there is a lot of messing around an some ppl will just not want that , in this day an age ppl want quick access an u believe the psvr is the only way to go for me
Ah, yeah. PSVR2 is definitely easier for many to get up and going. Also, everyone gets the same experience being in the same hardware.
Dude, don't say "PORSCH" The name is "PORSCHE". With "e" at the end 😅 pronunciation is like "A" (not ABC) from "A PORSCHE".

psvr. I have a quest 2, my fb got hacked and the quest is acting strange. If someone hacks your facebook, You're kinda f....ed right,
You can try contacting support, but you can always reset your device. I don't believe you need a Facebook account anymore but you will probably lose all your purchased games if you signed up with a new Meta account. Not sure how all that works though.
@@thecasualracinggamer I'll try. Theres probably a way or ways. I've had fun with the headset. 3 looks cool also.
A crisp screen does not equal good graphics.
Even Driveclub on PSVR1 looks better than that game on Quest3
As a former owner of PSVR1, you have no idea what you are talking about.
@@thecasualracinggamer as a current owner of PSVR1, PSVR2 and Quest2, and have access to a Quest3, i know exactly what im talking about.
Resolution and good graphics are not the same thing.
Sone PSVR1 games like drive club still look way better than quest games, except for the low res.
You realize I am talking about the Quest 3 headset plugged into a high end PC. Not the native stand alone Quest games. PSVR1 on PS4 cannot come close to Quest 3 on PCVR running on a high end PC.
@@thecasualracinggamer im talking about that particular game in this video. It looks awfull. Of course a PC 'can' out perform a PS4, but in reality the games dobt always push the PC.
And as I said, Im not talking about resolution. Yes that game looks crisp, but the ingame models and textures are basic.
Also the reason the PSVR2 looks soft and blury at times is due to foveated rendering. The player will never see those blurry bits, as the game only renders where the player is looking in full detail.
