"Angel Baby" was a 1960 single by Rosie and the Originals. The song was recorded independently on a two-track machine in the small farming community of San Marcos CA when lead singer Rosie Hamlin was only 15 years old. Initially unable to find a label willing to distribute the song because of its unpolished sound, the group convinced a San Diego department store to pipe their master through the listening booths in the record department. The response from listeners prompted Highland Records to sign the band and promote the single. Since its release the song has become an oldies standard." Rosie wrote the lyrics for "Angel Baby" as a poem for her very first boyfriend when she was 14 years old, She was not even given credit for writing it on the 45. Its "unpolished sound" was/is part of its appeal in an era when most pop recordings were over produced by record producers . BTW, back then record stores usually had "listening booths" where you could listen to a "45" before purchasing it .
She was the first Latina artist to appear on American Bandstand and was the first Latina inducted into the R&R Hall of Fame. She was never able to duplicate the success that she had with "Angel Baby" and, sadly, died at the age of 71 in 2017 due to advanced fibromyalgia.

Yes, you’ve heard that chord progression so many times in so many songs. Blue Moon and Heart and Soul as well as Stand By Me. There’s a song from Grease called “Magic Changes” that is about the sound from the era. Love you guys! Thanks for loving this music. So glad! I used to take so much guff for liking 50s music, and you’ve vindicated me! I knew it was good back in the 70s and it’s STILL good. I used to sing this song in a doo Wop group.
