Unpopular opinion: I believe people nowadays just way too much overcomplicate this so simple thing, which is love. I get that people want everything to look perfect and be magical but to be honest, it is just one day of your life. And just because something has the label "wedding" on it, suddenly costs two, three times more than a version of that without the label. I had a wonderful wedding last year, I planned the whole thing and it was easy, simple, and satisfying. I personally didn't want this experience to scream 'money' or 'expensive' because I don't feel like that's the point in marriage. What I wanted my wedding to feel like was 'happy, fun and to be just about us' not about how other people would want it to go.
We skipped the big wedding and had a Polynesian wedding on our honeymoon in Moorea, French Polynesia! It was just the two of us and so special! No stress 🥰
July 2022 is our wedding, no rushing, just planning very relaxed xx

I got overwhelmed with wedding planning, so I "eloped" and got married in my husband's backyard! Hah! I've been married 3.5 years and now we're thinking of doing a vow renewal in the future. These tips were super helpful. You made these complex topics much more palatable :-P

I'm getting married on 9th April 2021! We've booked our venue, our officiant, and our photographer! Got our theme and brought some bits and pieces of decor 😊 We've designed and got our save the dates printed, just need to write and post them!
I’ve been engaged for 2 years now and still don’t have a date set. Wedding planning has been complicated because his family lives far away from mine and both sides have important members with mobility issues. Watching videos like this helps wrap my head around the logistics. On the plus side, it’s fun to just be engaged and not rush. We’ve been together for 8 years now. Question for you Carrie - did you have family members who tried to influence your planning? If so, how did you deal with them?

Watching your wedding videos (please keep them coming 💕) and your videos about love I can truly say that I want to marry my boyfriend of almost 6 years. I feel so much love for him. We met when we were 17 and lately, looking at our time line, with finishing college, starting a company, moving in together I would love to get married on our 10 year anniversary on 28-6-24 I know it’s in the future but I like to dream about that day

I’m currently sending my fiancé links in emails from wedding wire or the knot of venues so we can start narrowing them down and deciding which ones to visit...when you posted this :) this is all really helpful, thank you so much for sharing all of this and being real about it? I don’t know if it makes sense but you don’t sound rehearsed and you’re just so down-to-earth so it makes me feel like you actually care. I’m still in the very beginning of this process so I’m grateful for you sharing. Yes to more wedding videos!
Also, we aren’t sure when our wedding is, ugh, we didn’t really have any dates we *needed* it to be on so we have just roughly landed on March/April 2021 and are trying to decide on the venue first? But I’m really eager to decide on a date so we can tell everyone, haha.

Congratulations!! 💗 I’m getting married July 16th 2021 in California, we live in NJ but my fiancé and his family are from CA, so for us it’s technically a destination wedding. My biggest struggle is keeping my family happy with having to travel for our wedding, even my mom isn’t too happy but we went with what made us happy and what felt right! I’m hoping they will all come around! Definitely sending out save the dates a year in advance so our guests have time to make their travel plans. Love all of your videos!!!

My daughter got married at the Foundry in NYC, which was an actual foundry so it has a brick, cobblestone and ironwork vibe. We also had a tent for the dinner tables, and separate areas for the bar and dancefloor. My daughter works in Manhattan and the building her office was in had beautiful flower arrangements in the corridors near the elevators, so she asked the management who the florist was because they were always beautiful. She found him and we ended up using him. He put various different silver vases with usual, unique flowers around each table and my daughter took photos of herself and her fiance and put them in canning jars with vegetable oil to keep them in place along the sides, because water only made the photos float. The florist worked the photo jars into the floral arrangements and tea lights were added and it looked magical. Plus, I have the photo jars in my house on shelves now. She also used a fantastic officiant who was so wonderful and everyone really enjoyed the ceremony because it was personal and unique. Also, having a wedding planner the last 6 weeks is so helpful if your budget allows, because it takes all the stress out of the day so the bride and groom can enjoy their own wedding. It sounds like your on the right track. I can't wait to see pics!
I'm making a group on Facebook with those I have as friend and adding everyone I'm inviting to it, and then sending the invitations later when I have all the details worked out. It gives them a good heads up to start saving.

so this is my recommendation after 15 years of marriage! You don’t have to get married if you love , you don’t t have to spent so much money on your wedding, doesn’t mean you will be more in love or more happy if you get married ! I think all this expensive and stressful weddings is not really necessary for people to get married , I’m surprised Alex is having a big weeding ! Is like is more your wedding but he really want a big wedding? Take it easy Carrie ! You love each other and doesn’t matter what kind of wedding you will have ! Don’t get stressed out !its obvious is a lot stuff in a wedding when is not really necessary! You love each other you don’t Need a big wedding !!

Hey Carrie! I've been following the Vagabrothers for years, and absolutely love you and Alex. My husband and I got engaged on November 21, 2018 (literally days after you guys did) in India. My now husband (Alex, too) is from England, and I'm from Southern California. We got married alone at the Santa Barbra court house, but are planning our wedding in England on July 11, 2020. My spouse visa is pending, and it has been overwhelming dealing with the distance, visa and wedding planning process. I never wanted a wedding-my Alex really wanted one. Since I knew how much it meant to him, I agreed. I know having most of the people we love in one room will be SO overwhelming for me, and I'll be so HAPPY he talked me into it. Right now I can't help but feel like I just want to get it over with and start my life with him. I'm REALLY looking forward to our honeymoon (we are big travelers too)! I'm really enjoying watching your process and your journey with Alex! xxx
A note on the florals to anyone who is planning- ask for a quote that has more flowers and one that has less flowers and more fillers like foliage. Adding more foliage like eucalyptus into my bouquets with pops of flowers lowered the cost significantly! Most florists will be flexible about this.
On the emotional side: If you're open to talking about any awkward family/friend dynamics that have popped up while wedding planning (people wanting to be overly involved or sadly not as interested as you might have wanted)
Logistics and fun side: I think it would be really interesting to see how y'all chose a honeymoon location. Not that you have to tell us where you're going but to touch on a few places that y'all thought about, the pros and cons, maybe throwing your actual location in there but not saying which one. :)

My boyfriend and I have been together for 6 and 1/2 years and put off getting engaged for a lot of reasons. We are talking about hopefully getting engaged this year and possibly married in the next few years. However, I’m a huge planner and am very interested in the process of planning a wedding. Nobody tells you the details and nitty gritty so I appreciate videos like these ☺️

Hi Carrie, I have few advices for the day of the wedding rather than the planning process, but it might be useful. :)
1- First of all, get a good night sleep so you'll have enough energy to enjoy the whole day and night.
2- Eat! And I mean it! I know you'll be nervous but you need that energy and also you propably don't want everybody to listen to your hurdling stomach during the ceremony. And the most important thing, you want to enjoy the food at the reception and dinner, right? So if you don't eat in the morning you'll probably have problem to eat later without feeling a little sick.
3- Don't stress about anything. It's your day, nobody will know if something went wrong if you won't tell them. And honestly it doesn't matter, the only thing that matters is you two.
4- From the morning get rid of socks, tight clothes, hair ties from your wrist, bra straps... Anything that can leave a mark, because that mark could take few hours to disappear.
5-If groom has a new suit, check it for vents stitched together. Every other groom leaves it stitched together and it shouldn't be that way.
6- The only thing groom can have in his pockets are tissues for you and himself. His phone, wallet etc. he doesn't need it and it looks bulky in the pockets.
7-When you're walking down the isle, look at the groom of course but spare a few moments for your guests too. Bride doesn't see the guests before the ceremony, so greet them with your smile. And when you'll kiss your groom and while you'll be waiting for the song to end, look at your guests one more time, so you'll remember them not just from the photos and video.
8- Enjoy it! The food, your loved ones, your dress, good music and celebrate your love as much as you can.

I'm using Zola as my website and loved the rsvp options because I have lots of family coming from Costa Rica and Colombia. For budgets and such getting floral and baked goods (sheet cakes/donuts/cookies) from Costco is also a good idea.
