Hi Carrie, Your wedding day will fly by- everyone said it goes so fast. I understand what they all meant now looking back, I wish I took more time to soak it all in. If only time would slow down!! Advice I was given before my wedding day was - on the day of your wedding take a minute to yourself, without anyone around, totally alone and look at yourself in the mirror, as a bride in your wedding dress and absorb it in. It’s a moment in life that is treasured, special, all of the above, and deserves a pause through the busy day just for you. I know it sounds silly (I slightly thought so when advised) I know understand how important it was. Congratulations to you both. You’ll be the most gorgeous bride!
I'm not planning a wedding, but I'm still taking mental notes for the future!! I love how the process has been collaborative for you two as a couple...so often it falls just onto the woman but it's an important event for both people!!
My advice is, when it’s all said and done, the venue, dress, food, music isn’t what’s most important. It will be the faces of the people you both love making the effort to be there to celebrate your love. And that much love will carry you and Alex through the good and bad days. Im so happy for you both! 🥰
I am so passionate about all the things Carrie said in this video! We had a year long engagement, and 1 week before the wedding we had to completely change our venue. With only 1 week left, we decided not to spoil the exciting week ahead with worrying about relocating, but to be excited about the new opportunity to change plans. Don't be afraid to simplify is my biggest piece of advice. 🥰
I’ve never dreamed of a wedding, either. I imagine my future partner and I eloping then throwing a non-wedding party to celebrate with friends when we get back or maybe doing a more informal surprise wedding at an engagement party we throw. Nice to hear your thoughts on this and while I still don’t desire one, I’ll keep an open mind to the wedding idea. (Still looking for the guy, lol)
I'm getting married in October and I'm so excited yet so overwhelmed with everything wedding related! I love the tips you gave, more wedding videos please!
LOL hearing about how you originally wanted to elope and then changed your perspective is 10/10 me. Some parts of me still wish we’d eloped BUT I know having all of our loved ones celebrating with us will be priceless and something we’ll be able to cherish for the rest of our lives.
I use to make wedding bouquets and one girls attitude to suggestions was a breath of fresh air everyone that offered up a suggestion she said what a wonderful idea thank you for that i will most definitely look into that. which didn't upset any one
Yay! Finally wedding stuff! I’m getting married in 2021. I’m curious if there are any books or apps you’ve found helpful in your process? I’m currently using the Knot to keep me on pace, but open to suggestions.
“Limit your options” So true... I found a dress that I loved and that was inexpensive early on and I know it wouldn’t have been nearly as easy if I had more options... I haven’t gotten married yet (still 9 months away) and I absolutely can not allow myself to look at any more dresses because I know I’ll start to second guess and stress myself
I NEED these videos!! First off, CONGRATULATIONS!! I just recently got engaged myself and we JUST picked a venue but I have to say it has been QUITE STRESSFUL!
Hi, I am getting married in three weeks! My fiancé and I went through the same thought process when planning our wedding as you and Alex. I’ve never imagined my wedding and we were planning on a small ceremony followed by an untraditional party but changed our minds quickly. I agree with all the points you have here. I would also add that it helps to not be too set on one thing as it might not work out that once you start planning. It’s been the opposite for us but a friend of mine has had real trouble with bridal party size because her and her fiancé imagined totally different and specific things. It can also be hard if the thing you really want is out of budget! Good luck for the rest of your planning.
I’m getting married in July, and this was super helpful! I am in the same boat with always thinking I would just elope, but my fiancé wanted to be traditional- but I am the planner in the relationship, so it’s been a bit overwhelming doing a lot of it on my own. I’m working hard to turn it into MY day, and I’ve had to learn to be honest with a lot of people who give that unsolicited advice. The stress dreams are coming a lot, both to me and my fiancé. I know that it will all turn out well, but it’s hard to not get anxious! I just started working with an older friend who has done wedding planning before, so I already feel a huge sigh of relief. Good luck!!
Getting married in October, my planning process has been so stressful and overwhelming but there are some moments like picking out my wedding dress that were so nice and special. It really is just a rollercoaster of emotions and sometimes overwhelming stress but I know that at the end I’ll be married to the love of my life.
Excellent advice. Also, if finances allow, hire a wedding planner for the last 4-6 weeks to make sure everything is under control ( ie: photographer, DJ, deliveries from florist, caterer.....) and the planner will follow through with details. On the day of the wedding, they will handle any issues and allow you to focus on just your wedding day stress free. It was a great !
hey! I am not sure when I will have my own wedding, but thanks for sharing so candidly on your wedding planning process. I do feel I want to have a partner that is as committed into the wedding, but yet we still get to talk about the future together. I feel like it's easy to get lost in the wedding planning maze. For my wedding, I would also very much prefer to have a few good choices and make a wise decision and be over it. I also prefer to be able to be quite mindful about it. I hope that when its my turn to have my wedding, I will take the time to soak it all in and just rest and be grateful to all the things that had been put into thought, discussed, planned and done.
I got engaged sep 2019 and I been so into planning my wedding I have a year left of planning and my emotions are a roller coaster how do u deal w that?
Yaaas sooo true same roller coaster here. Prayer has helped me and confiding in your bestest person (the bestie who lifts you up and doesn't judge and who is positive) focus on your day and be positive. Congratulations! I'm planning my wedding as well. My husband and I got married in court on June 5th, 2019. We got married first to move in together and to start saving up for our destination wedding in Hawaii on June 5th, 2021. We decided to do it in Hawaii since he grew up there and still has family living there. I just started researching and talking to vendors this month. I have 16 months until the wedding day. I already know who my photographer, videographer, month/day of coordinator will be. We just need to book our venue at 12 months. :)
I LOVE THIS VIDEO 😍 Thank you so much Carrie! I’m currently planning my wedding and am going through the same emotions as what you’ve said. It’s really put my mind at ease to know that I’m not the only one. Thank you for your advise and I wish you and your fiancé all the best for your future together.
This video is so relatable right now. We're getting married next year and slowly started planning and as much as it excites me it freaks me out at the same time. First of all weddings are sooooooooooooo expensive. Then there's the whole logistics like you said. My fiance and I are just back and forth between eloping or throwing a big party. 😆😆 But the good thing is we are true partners and can be honest with each other.😍
Congrats Carrie!!! I've been engaged for three years and we just decided on our date. And so far planning is at a standstill until further notice I'm sad. I hope your wedding is still going on as planned despite what's going on right now in the world
Thank you for being honest about those feelings. I’m going through those same up and downs of emotions. And it’s nice to know I’m not the only one. This was so helpful. Thank you!
I love these tips! I tell my clients things like this all the time! I love that you are keeping you and Alex at the center of this, as it should be. Wedding planning is overwhelming and I think you are doing such a great job navigating everything.
I ran off and got married. I’m really happy with that choice. Are you still using a part time wedding planner? You didn’t mention her so I was just curious.
My husband and I got married in a park near our home with just our close family as guests. My dress was a white lace summer dress I got on clearance for $30. My novice photographer brother took my photos. Weddings are whatever you make of them - just make sure it’s what you want. The only regret I have was not getting our backyard reception catered.
Same girl. I decided we should do a wedding. It will still be around 50 people and sweet. It's been a bit fun doing all the pieces. Never thought I'd be married ever
We had about a year to plan our wedding too. But more intense planing and organising stuff started when it was 10 months left. All works out fine so far... my wed on April 2020! I m extra excited ;) Great story about your engagement ♡
Honestly eloping is where it’s at. My husband and I eloped and saved the money for two different trips. One was right after we got married and we did a week trip between Seattle and Portland and it was amazing. Then after our second anniversary we went to Europe and went to 9 countries in 16 days. It was amazing and life changing. We don’t think getting married is an accomplishment, we think staying married is an accomplishment. So we’re going to do a huge party in a few years and do a vow renewal. With our kids (we’re a blended family with 6 kids) we’re going to say “you can have 3000$. You can either use that as a drop in a bucket for a wedding, or take an AMAZING international trip”. I think everyone should do what they want and what they can afford, but our society’s expectations of weddings are so skewed.
My wedding is in September this year 😊 Our venue was the first thing we booked too 👍🏽 I have been struggling with family opinions, so I'm really glad you said to just let them go!
You can wear gowns at new years and other formal occasions. Make sure your wedding dress is a ball gown or your groom will be bored. Choose different styles of dropped waist or high waist and a variety of neck lines, but make sure its a ballgown. Choose from different types of fabrics, lace, satin or taffeta but make sure its a full gown or your groom will be bored. Choose one that is short in the front with a long train but make sure its a wedding gown.

Carrie, i need some help 😅
me and my boyfriend are going to get married this summer (we are going to register our marriage). we won’t have a wedding, we thought that we would do it next year 😅 because for now we are students, we cannot afford a wedding. but i am scared what would my parents say. because my boyfriend didn’t “properly” proposed to me. we just planned that we are going to get married, to continue as married couple. what should i do with my parents? what should i say to them?
p.s. hope your wedding will be one of the best days of your life and you guys will be happy for the rest of your lives ❤️
Congrats! I am so excited to see more!!!

I thought all women fantasized about their wedding day but I was wrong! Nothing right with that. What matters is *actually* planning the real wedding instead of the fantasy one LOL
