  • In this video I take a whistlestop tour of the history of Seiko as a brand.
There are two great websites I would recommend visiting if you want more information on the subject:
    www.seikowatch...
    museum.seiko.c...
Apologies if any of the pronunciation is wrong!

    I like this series.😊
I would like to see one on rolex, maybe a bit longer
Or alternatively: one on gerald genta and all the watches he worked on

Great Video, love these deep brand dives. Any brand you choose next will be good but if you have the time I’d love to see your take on Timex, a brand that probably gave millions their first experience of a watch.

I can definitely do that at some stage, I think something interesting about your statement regarding Timex is that in the UK at least, they really don't have much presence. If you look at UK jewellers, a lot list timex as a brand that they stock, but don't have any listings. From my experience in the US you'd find Timex in department stores, but those have died out quite a lot in the UK at least.
I think Casio would be the brand that's the main starting point for UK based watch aficionados. I am a fan of Timex though so more than happy to look at their history.

@@ImpulsiveWatchesYou’re probably right about Timex now. I was really thinking about when I was young, back in the 1970s Timex was pretty popular. My first watch, when I was about 5, was a Timex with a cowboy on the face. It was colourful and fun and I loved it. It taught me to tell the time and to live watches. I was out today and looked in a few jewellers and didn’t see a single Timex but loads of affordable Casios.

This was quite the informative watch!
One question I've always had is - If Seiko managed to cause a "Quartz Crisis" by making the Astron, why have they relatively abandoned complete quartz watches today? I know one entry level GS is Quartz, and some other Seikos do some sort of combination - but I've not come across a modern quartz Seiko. Do they not want to compete with Casio?
On a side-note, I personally feel longer videos add more "long-term" value rather than shorter one's. A long video can go more in-depth, thus becoming a more filling watch experience. Don't aim to keep videos short!

You are quite right on video length, I just want to refine the documentary style a bit with some practice videos like this. As far as Seiko and quartz go, they do still have the Astron range, those are all solar powered now, so I guess they are essentially more of a competitor to the top end of the eco-drive range from Citizen than anything Casio are doing. I have the entry level GS GMT quartz and the hand finished movement is really quite something, as is the level of accuracy, so it's not that they aren't doing it at all, not that they are the same brand anymore.
I think this is probably a case where Occam's razor applies, they don't try to compete with Casio because they can't. The G-Shock range is just too strong and too well established to get a foothold against. To be fair it's not like it's just Seiko, very few brands have even close to the digital line-up that Casio can offer.

@@ImpulsiveWatches Makes sense, it wouldn't really be a smart business decision to take on Casio's top end digital models.
Plus, something I just realised, Seiko might still maintain a quartz presence, but through entry level Alba watches.

Just how many divers case designs do they have.

I'm not sure I could list them all from the top of my head, but I'd wager so many it would need it's own video to go through.
