iPad Pro 12.9 with Apple Pencil Apps: Procreate, Sketchbook Pro Screen Protector: iCarez Anti Glare (4:46 in the video) More detail at: crabfuartworks....
Man, this is the best review/comparison of the Ipad Pro + Pencil ever! The way you put the camera very close to the screen so we can actually see that there is no parallax compared to the Cintiq, that was great! Top review, man! I actually now want to buy an Ipad pro before the Cintiq, hahahha.
Pro tip, get a best buy credit card, the minimum payment per month is around 25$, or pay it off quicker than that for best results, you deserve one if youve done research, trust me. Great investment
Yah, you deserve the debt. *sarcasm* Don't tell people to lend money because it's a bad thing to do. Buy what you can afford, don't lend unless it's a investment that you can earn back with that. Even with low montly wages, does not mean the interest will not be calculated.
Yeah. Really. Pro tip? Go get a credit card? Credit cards are very dangerous. Plus you end up paying intrest = more money. Oh and if you miss a payment, then your intrest rate jumps from 18% to 24% for 6 months.
Great review. First one to mention that the iPad pro is in general more convenient to just pick up and draw. An artist's motivation and momentum is very fragile, and little things like worrying about battery life, viruses and updates can hamper the creative process. If you want to do more professional stuff, sketch inspired things straight onto the iPad pro, then just export it to your computer to finish it off.
Thanks for the great review! It's really helpful to see the up close shots showing the parallax and delay amounts. You have a very genuine voice and demeanor, too.
By the time I got mine, Procreate had already implemented a cursor so you can preview where the pencil will touch. I enabled it for like 45 secs lol The Apple pencil is so responsive and parallax so inexistent that it has eliminated the need for a cursor for me. I draw on it as I would on paper, except with the joy of having all the brushes and paints and layers. But I came here just to thank you. Your video helped decide whether to buy an iPad + Pencil and I am glad I did.
i've watched this probably four times.. im going to go pick an ipad pro up soon, so i've been watching videos like crazy. i adore how realistic the pencil strokes are in your drawings! this video is one of the few that made me choose ipad over surface pro. your voice is very easy to listen to and you explain very well :) thanks for the review !
Never thought I'd actually buy an apple product but this has made me seriously consider one. I love drawing and I will be doing a lot of traveling in the near future so this would be perfect for me. Thanks for the great review!
That was great. Your comparisons were spot on and you really changed my mind about the iPad Pro. I thought that every art tablet was just a lame attempt at Cintiq claimed territory, but now I think that the iPad Pro is the way to go. You really gave me a lot to think about. Thank you very much.
I'd strongly recommend going to the store and try it out. They will have Adobe sketch & notes installed, which are not the best app to show off drawing, but it'll give you an idea on the accuracy, tilt, and pressure etc.
Nice to see that Wacom is slowly losing its monopoly on quality graphic tablets, maybe the rising competitors will finally motivate them to put more effort into their products or at least price them more reasonably. I hope Samsung eventually introduces a graphic tablet of their own in response to Apple.
yes, good to finally see real competition for Wacom. They just announced their new mobilestudio pro line, to replace the companion line , specs look good. Samsung does have art tablets. They have the note line of tablets ( as well as explosive phones), as well as tablet pc's, that all uses old Wacom tech for tablet PC . I've reviewed them previously, if you check out my other vids. They are all great, but this iPad and pencil is at a different level for sketching. Overall, I'm using iPad Pro pretty much exclusively now, for the type of simple sketching work I do, it's amazing. Looking forward to see how the new mobilestudio pro compares.
Well I've been looking through lots of reviews ipad pro vs cintiq and you'res has honestly helped me make the decision to go with the ipad pro. I already own an ituos, so if i need to use a hearty program I will continue to be desk bound. For sketching on the go, ie flights, and days out, or just sketching on the couch the ipad pro seems like a great minimal option. Thank you for the review!!
Awesome! I'd recommend going to the apple store and test driving it. They will have Procreate installed... I'd go into settings and turn the top end of the pressure curve to 75% though, otherwise it feels like you need to power etch the screen to hit the full pressure, it's actually too sensitive!
I ended up taking the leap, and one of my friends did the same! Thank you so much, this is an amazing device, and with the screen protector it is absolutely perfect for what I was looking for. I still have my 22UX for certain things, but for sketching on the couch or on the go, the iPadPro is brilliant. (I've tried many tablets and have been waiting for the Cintiq Companion 3 [if it ever comes out] for something more mobile. SurfacePro 1 didn't cut it, iPad 1 and 2 were not helpful.) Again thanks, until watching this video, I had written this device off as another no-go.
Thanks! The Pencil is long and pretty heavy, balanced well in the middle, so works great for spinning, easier than a Wacom stylus or a normal pen. I fidget and spin it a lot when I'm trying to think of something to draw :)
Thank you very much for the pressure tilt and parallax tests. This makes me feel even better that I have the pencil now. I have the Wacom Cintiq 12w and never liked the feel with it.
I am happy that you found a good mat screen protector that works with the apple Pencil by the screen protector giving the iPad pro more tooth or texture.
Thanks for a great review! Really helped that you were able to compare it to the other current tablets from top tier companies to show the pro's and con's along with software companions and how to tweak things to make the drawing experience more natural. Keep up the grind man!
Lol I always see people ragging on the Apple Pencil for being $100 but it seems like it would actually be worth it. I've got a Wacom drawing tablet and I totally agree with the complaints about the pencil kind of being unpredictable. I don't draw too much with it because it's just not really that comfortable to do.
razrv3lc it is a very expensive piece of plastic.... Buy I can't deny that it'll be very useful, expecially in my college course.... So it's kinda worth it since its the best stylus for the iPad 🤷♂️
Thank you. It's great. I also like the creating part, as you can just take it out and write down what you are thinking. For my I do a lot of formulas and calculating. It's really convenient.
I think you have just saved me making another expensive mistake. I bought a wacom tablet and I'm seriously struggling with the tablet to screen hand eye coordination. So I've decided to invest in something I can draw on the way I do in my sketchpads. With cintiq's being as pricey as they are, I really needed to be sure. So, thank you so much for such a comprehensive comparison between the two!
What an absolutely great review! I only use my Apple Pencil to take notes and write my journal..but it's always so nice to see how powerful it is. Thank you!
Thanks for this review it's fantastic. I'm patiently waiting for the Ipad Pro 2 and it's update on the Apple Pencil. Rumour has it that the upcoming Ipads are going to have further improved screen refresh rate, further improving the responsiveness of the Pencil. And really hoping Apple will listen to feedback and do something about the lack of hover cursor.
I've been looking for a comparison video for sooo long! Thank you bc you for including so much detail in this. It really helped be decide which tablet i will be getting!
I find the hover cursor distracting and prefer the way Apple does it, it's more natural. The Apple Pencil draws where you touch the screen, just like a real pencil draws where you touch the paper. No need for a corrective guide while using the Apple Pencil. I think I read somewhere that that's exactly why Apple didn't include the hover cursor. Other tablets use the cursor mainly because of stylus inaccuracies and parallax, which, you said yourself, is virtually nonexistent with the Apple Pencil.
+adamaj74 I think not having hover is awesome for pencils and thin lines. Where it gets harder is big paint brushes. When you use a real paint brush, you can see the size of the brush that you are using, and you can paint with that in mind. Switch from small brush to a large brush, you can see the brush size of the brush that you are using. So digitally, I like to see the size of the brush, when the brush is very different than the actual physical pencil's small fine point. That way you don't get the instance where you start painting, only to realize that the stroke is way too big or small, because you have no reference until you're already painting. Overall, not a huge deal, as you learn to adapt.... I just wanted to point out that I like wacom's hover better than not having it. With thin lines and pens etc, I like having no hover cursor on the apple pencil. On wacom, you need a cursor even for pencil lines, because the accuracy and parallax isn't as good.
I think apple could have included this feature but they also should have given the choice to activate and deactivate it at will.It would be a win-win situation ;)
Great review. I liked that you compared the tilt functionalities. The one on the Apple Pencil definitely seems like a real pencil. Also, Your drawing is amazing !
Great review! I picked up an iPad pro with a pencil last week and I second everything you pointed out here. It is also worth noting that Astropad for the iPad is a must have purchase as it lets you draw on your PC or Mac. The app transmits pressure sensitivity back to your computer. I use this now instead of my Cintiq to draw on my Mac. For anyone who does get Astropad, you can turn off the purple trail that follows your cursor when you draw. I personally find it a bit distracting to draw with it trailing my pencil.
+Leticia Let No, I haven't noticed it scratching the screen. It feels that it glides over the screen pretty well. I recently put a screen protector on it to give it the feeling of drawing on a textured surface and that plastic protector hasn't been scratched at all, so I wouldn't be too worried about it.
Thank you for such a great review! I've bought an iPad pro and an Apple pencil too, but it felt weird to draw with them and I didn't know why. Turns out I have a really light hand when it comes to drawing so your setting tip really helped! Drawing experience on iPad is much more pleasant now haha. Thanks :)
So glad I found your review! I was on the fence about what to get, but not anymore! I've been using my Galaxy Note5 for on the go drawing, but I want something bigger. The full size iPad Pro is just too big for me. I checked it out in person. Now that the 9.7 iPad Pro is out, that seems to be the one that will fit my needs! Thanks again for your great review!
The ipad pro's pencil is amazing, but you'll have to make sure you can deal with the app limitations. Once a canvas is created in procreate, you won't be able to resize the canvas. The automatic video recording of your drawing is nice though.
Great review of the iPad Pro, and from an artist too. Appreciate the comment about the screen protector too! First review I've seen that mentions this.
I know this review is over a year old (but it's so good and well done and is helping me make a decision!) but I felt compelled to let you know that Procreate (at least) has the option to turn the brush cursor on. It's in the preferences menu. You might not be able to do it for all apps, but it definitely works for Procreate. Thanks for the in depth awesome review!
PoppyFox Thanks! Yeah several people have pointed that out. Yes, you can turn it on, but it doesn’t display it until you draw, or change the brush size. Wacom detracts when the stylus is hovering over the screen without touching the screen, so you can see the brush size before you actually paint/erase etc. It’s just one of those things that I do miss, and thought I should point it out that the iPad doesn’t know anything about the apple pencil’s position until it’s touching the screen. Also, yeah this is an older video, I have another that compares this old 12.9 to the new 10.5.
so the answer is Yes! Thanks for the great review of iPad Pro...waiting for new March 2017 release update...I just visit weekly to Apple store and play on theirs...as I cannot just yet afford one...hopefully in March.
This was an amazing review. I was twiddling my thumbs over what tablet to buy and I always wanted the iPad Pro and you’ve sold me on it. Thanks! Gonna get it ASAP
I did show the tilt in the Wacom Cintiq Companion vs Pencil in this video, it shows close up of how the wacom pen's tilt was not nearly as easy to control for the tilt, as the Pencil. I don't think that the Pencil's tilt is perfect, but it is useable, where wacom's was more of a hit or miss. But I'm guessing that you are talking about the MobileStudio pro, and Wacom's new stylus for that. It's higher pressure sensitivity and better accuracy than previous Cintiqs. This video was made way before the MobileStudio was announced, so I was comparing the Pencil the my Companion, and my friend's Surface Pro. I'm not a professional reviewer, but a professional artist, so I don't get all the tools free to test.... I just review tools that I love, and test of tools from other artist friends. So far no one I know has the MobileStudio, and I'm not ready to fork out the money for that without a test drive, since I have the iPad Pro and Cintiq Companion already.
Alright. You mean there wasn't the stylus pen for the tilting task when you made this video. I didn't count the time difference. I'm sorry. I thought the tiltying stylus has been on sale for a quite long time. Perhaps I'm wrong. Nice review. Thanks.
NO need to be sorry... but I meant that I DID show the wacom pen tilt in this video, at about 2:45. I showed apple pencil's tilt first, then I compared it to the wacom cintiq companion. Not many pc programs use tilt, and I think Painter's tilt is the best, Photoshop just doesn't come close to being useable. So you are right, tilt in wacom stylus has been around for a while now, but virtually no programs use it, and the hardware doesn't tilt well because the thin nib just goes in and out. So you can never tilt very far before it's just not sensing any pressure levels. Apple pencil's nib is like pencil lead, so the cone shape works like tilt in a real pencil, and it somehow senses the tilted sideways pressure. I wouldn't say it's perfect, but it's by far better than wacom's cintiqs. Sorry for the confusion, thought I was clear on showing zoom in shots. What I meant about Mobile Studio Pro, is that it's the new wacom device that just came out last month, and I don't know anyone that has it to test drive :( Wacom claims that the stylus pressure sensitivity has increased by a lot, and that parallax is better, but didn't mention any improvement on the tilt. Personally, I think the wacom sensitivity is fine as is, but could really use improvement on the parallax, and better tilt. With tilt, programs/apps has to support it correctly. So Procreate does a nice job of it on the ipad, but sketchbook's tilt isn't as good. I've tried many other ios pencil supported apps, and procreate felt the best.
Thanks for the detailed review. I always admire painter artists, so I gather information about drawing knowledge whenever I encounter them. I feel like getting both devices, but in reality I have an intuos. I love it, but I also want to experience new tech from apple and Wacom. Keep nice work ~~
I have a Cintiq 21UX now and was considering an iPad Pro, went into the Apple Store to try it and was surprised I did not like the feel of the iPad Pro screen. Thanks for the tip about the screen protector. The only other thing I will miss is the backside eraser and hover brush size preview in Photoshop. iPad Pro is back on my wish list, now to decide between 9.7" and 12.9"...
+Ezra Engle The pencil feels different, even with screen protectors. I've used the 21UX for years before switching to 22, 24, and companion etc, so I'm very comfortable with wacom's stylus feel, on both smooth glass feels, and the more textured screens of the companion. Pencil feels different, and for me in a good way. If you get one, I think you'll just have to get used to that it is a different tool than wacom's tech, over all I love it, even with it's shortcomings of no buttons, no hover etc.
*_GREAT_* review of the iPP, and Pencil, done by *_actual artist!_* And a really *_good_* one, too! You certainly make it look very attractive. Now, if I only had any money--! ;)
Best review I've watched so far! You have definitely convinced me to buy the iPad Pro + Pencil instead of the Cintiq. P.S. I'm an arts student and this was really helpful before I can invest my money. Thank you! :)
An actual review by someone who knows they are talking about with regards to digital art! Was tossing up between the Surface & the iPad Pro, seems the iPad Pro is gonna be my option. Thanks!
+Bobeo If you were considering the Surface for some of the professional applications, note that the problems he mentioned with the surface here has since been updated (fixed). The only exception is that tilt control is still not supported. Something to consider so you can make an informed decision based on your needs. :) Edit: for spelling.
Thanks for the advice, but I already bought the iPad Pro - got an absolute steal on one, so it was a no competition. Paid almost half price for the 128GB model. *Sigh* if only the Apple Pencil was cheaper though...
I cancelled my Wacom, after reading the review, wacom cintiq(27 touch) contrast ratio is so low and it doesnt make your image pop.. Better solution is Ipad Pro + pencil then via astropad to mirror to my 4k screen and you can bring it to another room and continue your work.. Wacom must be tethered to a PC which is a deal breaker..
+66stryker66 iPad pro's screen is beautiful, I must say. However, I didn't like using Astropad, there is a bit of a lag to it. They use a magenta line to hide the lag, which helps, because the magenta lines is done on the ipad side and has no lag.... if you turn off the magenta lines, you can see the lag much more, even using usb instead of wifi. It's great for tweaking and adjusting, and some little paint overs. Astropad has gotten a lot of great reviews, but was a bit disappointing for me when I tried to use it like a cintiq screen. But I find that I can do almost everything that I want to, on ipad pro/pencil/procreate or sketchbook pro. You can always exported as psd from those apps, and bring it into a pc/mac.
+66stryker66 bad idea man, the cintiq 27 is way better than an ipad. i know i have them both. I also tried astropad, its not a good solution like Huang mentions. if you need full software get a cintiq. ipad is more for sketching or light duty illustration work.
i noticed that and really slow performance. its only a win for noobs or apple fans. i hope apple puts video capture into the ipad like the cintiq, then there will be no lag and better image quality for those of us who need it. software solutions will never be up to par.
Don't mind Dany joy guys. He is just your typical apple hater. Check out his site www.danijoy.com now compare it to I-Wei Huang illustration. Enough said.
+66stryker66 i have cintiq 24hd and recentli bought ipad pro ... and after some time i came to conclusion that ipad is perfect portable sketchbook for sketching ideas but for finishing is cintiq the best because of full photoshop features and computer power
this is a really really well made video! super informative and the way it's filmed just gave you a very realistic impression of what working with the tablet is like, thank you!
Awesome review man. I'm currently shopping between the pro, cintiq, and Surface. I've seen many reviews that show how you can draw on the three but none have gone into detail as I feel you have. Pro it is....
Go try it out at the store.... apple store and best buy have them to test with the pencil. Unfortunately there isn't a place to test drive the cintiq to compare, but at least you can see if the ipad pro / pencil will work for you or not :)
Hi, do you recommend an iPad pro instead of Cintiq if i use it with photoshop? i really accustomed to paint only in this software so maybe i dot use procreate
Logan Cure iPad Pro is good for mock up into photoShop where the software is much more advanced. Can't wait until the processing gets that good! will be great
Great considerations! I sold my Cintiq 13HD Touch for an iPad Pro cause its so much more inspiring to use and simply make something fun and draw anywhere however you like! And the Pencil is far superior, feels like a real, well-balanced tool to swing around and hold naturally as you would a range of different media. A solid stylus. :)
Thank you for making this review. I've had the Cintiq Companion and now just ordered an iPad Pro 12.9" model. I did like my Companion, however, it was so heavy and bulky that it didn't make portability that interesting or desirable. It was cumbersome to take out on a plane and draw with, the stylus ALWAYS set off security so I learned to take it out and put it on the tray instead of leaving it my bag and the battery life was kinda poor. I couldn't just easily sit outside at a park or something and draw without fear of it dying before I was done. When my iPad Pro arrives, I was wondering about the screen texture and if I would want to get a protector to help with the tooth of the feel for drawing, and your video wonderfully touched on that. Thank you for such a thorough review. Very very helpful!
I really wish the iPad Pro Pencil had a side-switch. That's definitely a deal-breaker for my workflow. It would me amazing if Wacom made a peripheral for iPad Pro that gave it hotkeys. lol Imagine if Wacom, Apple, and Adobe teamed up to make an iPad suitable for professional art... Sigh. It'll never happen.
I was so tied to the stylus buttons and express keys for Wacom Cintiq/Tablet Pc's, that I thought it'd be a deal breaker for me too. Surprisingly however, I got used to the workflow and now don't miss it. Procreate has brush size and opacity, and color eye dropper on the side of the screen for your other hand, and gestures for pinch zoom, and pop up menus, two finger tap to undo etc., that I don't feel constrained. Mind you, I was so used to cintiq's express buttons, that when I do real pencil and paper, I twitch my left thumb for undo because I was so hard wired. In any case, I don't disagree that having buttons is better, but I'm shocked myself that I feel ok without them.... in fact it feels more like traditional media, lol.
This was surprisingly a well made review. One thing you forgot to mention is how is the wear on the nib? I draw a lot every day and I want to know how tough is the nib.
I use it for work, so put MANY hours a day on it. The nib does wear, but not bad at all.... however, disclaimer.... I have a super light hand, and have never worn out a Cintiq pen either. The pencil comes with a spare nib, and I haven't changed the original one yet.
No, but I think that would actually work really great for life drawing... however, having a device that can undo and layers may defeat the purpose of life drawing practice....
max dagle normally i would agree. i hate apple products. but we can trust our eyes. what we see here is a very well behaving stylus pen that if you dismiss there is no hover, looks rathen tempting to try, at least. having used wacom styluses of all kinds for many years i think the reviewer did a good job in describing differences.
racerschin a few weeks ago i got to test the ipad pro and pencil, while the latency was good, the screen was way too smooth. the color also looked quite distorted. and its just a personal opinion but the feel of holding an ipad or having it in my lap is just too awkward. its slippery and unbalanced. a case could fix this but i didnt have one to try. i liked the feel of the pencil but the tip is too hard and round.
max dagle yes nib looks way too hard. screen surface issues are mentioned in the review and comments as well, so there is definetely an issue there! thanks for answering, i ll give ipad pro it a try when i found one.
Thank you I-Wei. Nikolai Lockertson is also a great inspiration as you are. He has been using Procreate many years now. Did you get the iPad Pro that was connected to a cellular phone service or one yoy only need wifi? Thank you much. Great little review and new ideas to consider! Keep up the good work.
Really amazing review, thank you... I am torn between plopping money down for a Wacom Intuos Pro versus doubling or tripling that price to get an iPad Pro and the Pencil... I need to do vector artwork in Illustrator, though, so I'm not sure which would be the best. It just seems like the iPad pro is so multifunctional and wonderful for sketching! It seems weird to put 250$ down for a one-use only device.
Wacom's got the Cintiq line, and new Mobilestudio Pro coming soon. I don't do illustrator/vector work, but I assume that it'd be better on the PC, with full illustrator. I'd look into ipad apps to see if there is any that does vector the way you need, before even considering the ipad pro/pencil.
That looks amazing. Thanks for the great demonstration. I keep wondering (and haven’t found any good examples online) if it’s possible to do a very fine pen and ink line drawing like Alan E. Cober (a great illustrator) used to do years ago. Or something that looks like a Rembrandt etching. That would be a dream come true.
David Parker I think just about any digitizer stylus can give you the pen and ink look.... pen and ink lines are pretty easy for software to emulate, as compared to pencil, watercolor, oil paints etc, are much harder to make look convincing. I’d suggest going to an Apple Store/Best Buy, and try the pro/pencil out and see if it can do what you are looking for. I think the demos have Procreate installed (if not just use the default notes app), and take one of the pen brushes out for a test drive.
Finally, your video provided me all the relevant information for me to make my decision. And the screen protector recommendation is also very considerate! Thanks!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Great info, well done. Thanks! As a long time Cintiq user, I've been very hesitant to try the iPad Pro and Pencil ... now I think I can safely make a better decision. Cheers!
Very well done! Very informative and gave me the push I needed to invest! I appreciate your time and video! Thanks again for being awesome dude! Keep these videos going!
+I-Wei Huang the last words : virus who have to worried about ( pc) my friend dats a little bit bulshit. A Smarthone can have a virus, a tablet , Every Apple Product what have a touch and every Product with a screen WHAT have a app or look like a pc or a smartphone can have a virus. no offense. I like the video its really help me about both side. but . as a concept artist for me its not good... mostly the Companion is better. Keep these videos going
Super Video, exzellent skitzen, i have tried before only with Wacom Tablet, but it hasn't so much colors like by Apple Pencil , Bit Good for drawing ! Thanks for sharing!!! 👍🌹
Brush cursor: i found that the brush cursor setting was enough to give me a heads ups about the brush size and placement before starting a brush stroke. I like it much better than the X marks the spot style. Thanks for the vid. I really appreciate it from an artists point of view. A lot of non-artist reviewers complain about the pencil length but for an artist who is used to holding a pencil from the back, it is excellent. The ipad pro is finally large enough to make this viable.
Thanks! Yeah, the Pencil is only long compared to a stylus. It's more important that it's balanced well, then length or weight. Luckily it's very well balanced ( and easy to spin!) and makes it easy to draw holding it pinching style.
Great review. I wonder if wacom will listen to all the negative feedback for the companion 2. I really love my companion hybrid. The battery life is enough to cover a transatlantic flight with heavy use. I use artflow btw great alternative to sketchbook/procreate. but the fixed OS is a killer I am getting to the point where I can no longer run or the newer apps. For now it looks like if I get a new digital sketchbook ipad pro will be the way to go. Thanks for your help.
Yeah I was tempted on the companion hybrid... but went for the full pc version instead, and it's an amazing device. I gave it a great review before! So not trying to slam wacom, but apple made it simple and a tool that feels amazing. So for the type of work that I do, I am feeling like the pro/pencil can do just about anything, and I am not pretty much using it solely for work.
Right. I just want that digital on the go capability. The more powerful it is the better. But if it can't compete with my desktop for the heavy lifting it just isn't worth it...now if you had to rock a fully capable mobile office. Wacom would certainly be a better option. But for ideas, sketching, pleinair and such portability and battery come just behind a solid pen and paper feel.
That was an insanely helpful review! I've been meaning to switch from Wacom to a different tablet, so this was very much appreciated. Thank you for such a wonderful review!
Lazy Laney Glad that you found it useful! I have a review on the pro 10.5 vs this old 12.9. And just uploaded the ipad 2018 vs pro video today, which is a super cheap alternative that works with the pencil. So make sure to check out those 2 videos!
Glad that you found it useful!
This finally sold me on buying the thing. Great review!
+nick criscuolo I have it. Its a dream come true! GO NOW. GET IT. WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR!!?
+Daniel Aubert Yeah same here, the parallax is crazy!!
Wait, ipad pro 1st gen have laminated display or the parallax is just unnoticable?
dat pencil flip at 2:41 :O
ikr XD
dood them butterfly knife skills
its called penspinning, genious.
"genius"
Mediamatix understood?
I think this pushed me over too the Pro.
This is the only apple product that I really want to save money and buy
Pro tip, get a best buy credit card, the minimum payment per month is around 25$, or pay it off quicker than that for best results, you deserve one if youve done research, trust me. Great investment

Yeah. Really. Pro tip?
Go get a credit card?
Credit cards are very dangerous. Plus you end up paying intrest = more money. Oh and if you miss a payment, then your intrest rate jumps from 18% to 24% for 6 months.
lol, if you want to pay monthly. at least go through your carrier. not apply for a credit card...
Mary Universe exactly!
Great review. First one to mention that the iPad pro is in general more convenient to just pick up and draw. Thank you for such a great review from a *real artist*! finally found one. :)
Haha... thanks for considering me a "real" artist! :)
Also your voice is ridiculously soothing I felt like I was listening to asmr. And don’t even get me started on those epic pen spins.

+Abner Santos Awesome! Glad to hear that :)
What Apple Pencil did he use
@@volleyballshenanigans5021 that's definitely Gen 1
i've watched this probably four times.. im going to go pick an ipad pro up soon, so i've been watching videos like crazy. i adore how realistic the pencil strokes are in your drawings! this video is one of the few that made me choose ipad over surface pro. your voice is very easy to listen to and you explain very well :) thanks for the review !
mirthfulpandemonium Wow thanks for the comments, glad that it helped you!
Never thought I'd actually buy an apple product but this has made me seriously consider one. I love drawing and I will be doing a lot of traveling in the near future so this would be perfect for me. Thanks for the great review!
Yeah me too. I'm getting one this month just for the pencil
This is easily the best, most informative comparison breakdown video I've seen. Thank you!
Thanks! Glad that it helped.
Thanks for the review and for actual name of screen protector; which I ordered.
One of the most sensible reviews i have found for this subject. Quiet helped
Thanks. I'll do that as soon as I can. If I can get past the salespeople/ geniuses.
you really capture the moment with the family portrait. subbed for life.
+Tronald Dump thanks!
You just sold me on the pencil spin trick.
Thank you very much for your awesome review. "Just pick it up and draw". For the first time, it sounds possible for a tablet.
I was thinking the same. This is the perfect review to help me make a decision.
Awesome! I'd recommend going to the apple store and test driving it. They will have Procreate installed... I'd go into settings and turn the top end of the pressure curve to 75% though, otherwise it feels like you need to power etch the screen to hit the full pressure, it's actually too sensitive!
Sweet, try a test drive at an apple store if you can!
SurfacePro 1 didn't cut it, iPad 1 and 2 were not helpful.) Again thanks, until watching this video, I had written this device off as another no-go.
drailerplay glad to hear it worked out for you!
Bonus points for spinning! :D
Thanks! The Pencil is long and pretty heavy, balanced well in the middle, so works great for spinning, easier than a Wacom stylus or a normal pen. I fidget and spin it a lot when I'm trying to think of something to draw :)
#
I-Wei Huang me too lol i always spin my pencil when im drawing
I-Wei Huang ah..don't you afraid to drop it ? It's very expensive!
Awesome! I do think Cintiq is an amazing art tool as well, but quite pricey.
I can't wait for the next version too :)
Very very good review! It's that kind of things that gives the right idea of the iPad Pro + Pencil for Graphic Users!
Really nice review. Direct, concise, and stable video
thanks!
Nice informative review! I think the matt screen cover has sold it for me - going to opt for an iPad pro..
the pen twirls sold me, are they included? :)
Nice drawings!
Thank you for the great review. It really helped making my mind on this 😊
Thank you for such a great review! I've bought an iPad pro and an Apple pencil too, but it felt weird to draw with them and I didn't know why. Turns out I have a really light hand when it comes to drawing so your setting tip really helped! Drawing experience on iPad is much more pleasant now haha. Thanks :)
I know penspinning, but I would never dare to do it with an Apple pencil. One little mistake and that's as far as you go
So glad I found your review!
I bet a native app could be made to see the cursor. I have the Cintiq and I want to get the iPad Pro so I can leave my desk.
cintiq companion allows you to do so
I bought the iPad Pro and it's amazingly accurate. I have Sketch Book Pro for both my iMac and the iPad Pro and both versions are about the same.
The ipad pro's pencil is amazing, but you'll have to make sure you can deal with the app limitations. Once a canvas is created in procreate, you won't be able to resize the canvas. The automatic video recording of your drawing is nice though.
Procreate is improving a lot though, a few days ago it got a huge update with great new features. No doubt it'll come with resizing soon.
Awesome review man. Glad to hear from someone who draws for a living. Got my iPad pro and love it sofar
Your PenFu is strong
Great review of the iPad Pro, and from an artist too. Appreciate the comment about the screen protector too! First review I've seen that mentions this.
Awesome review! I am so glad I got the iPad over the Cintiq!
+BeccaBee Art omg im a huge fan of you !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is the video review that sold me on the 9.7 iPad Pro. Thank you sir!!!
awesome in depth review! now i want ipad pro+pencil because of you
Thanksz! Now, if I can figure out a way to make commission....
I'm buying the pencil just to spin Hahaha
lol pro pen spinners are all over it I'm sure lol.
You need to buy a book on how to take a joke... lighten up man
Mary Rosario What ? I thought the comment you made was funny...
no the comment before
Mary Rosario Oh ok, yeah that dudes underwear is on to tight I think.
so the answer is Yes! Thanks for the great review of iPad Pro...waiting for new March 2017 release update...I just visit weekly to Apple store and play on theirs...as I cannot just yet afford one...hopefully in March.
Best review ever and the pencil brush is awesome. Thank you VERY much
This was an amazing review. I was twiddling my thumbs over what tablet to buy and I always wanted the iPad Pro and you’ve sold me on it. Thanks! Gonna get it ASAP
There is another pen for tilting in wacom. I love ipad pro, but you should compare it fairly.
Keep nice work ~~
I-Wei Huang cintiq companion and iPad pro are equally drawing tablet ? except experience and program interface ?
Now, if I only had any money--! ;)
I hope that Apple makes smaller and cheaper devices for the Pencil. I'd love to see this on the iPad mini and iPhone.
Took so long to find this review. Great work, man!
ok ill get one thanks for this review
Best review I've watched so far! You have definitely convinced me to buy the iPad Pro + Pencil instead of the Cintiq.
P.S. I'm an arts student and this was really helpful before I can invest my money. Thank you! :)
+Joni De Guzman Great, hope that you enjoy it!
You're a pencil ninja. ;) Good video.
+Mike Franklin Awesome, I need to put Pencil ninja in my resume!
Like the pencil but don't love the 'feel': so plasticy, rigid and skatey. Cintiq has much better feel, imo.
You draw awesome. Excellent video!
thanks!
Lukas Mei thank you! If possible, go test drive the pro/pencil in person at the Apple Store or Best Buy!
definitely gonna buy Ipad pro :O
Awesome review man. I'm currently shopping between the pro, cintiq, and Surface. I've seen many reviews that show how you can draw on the three but none have gone into detail as I feel you have. Pro it is....
Awesome!
You forgot to mention, you can change tips on surface pro and Cintiq
thanks for making up my mind for me. i've been thinking about getting a cintiq but after your review, i'm definitely getting the ipad now.
Go try it out at the store.... apple store and best buy have them to test with the pencil. Unfortunately there isn't a place to test drive the cintiq to compare, but at least you can see if the ipad pro / pencil will work for you or not :)
Nice Penspinning
IAF is a HUGE factor for those with light handed strokes. the stylus's initial activation force compared to the wacom stylus
Hi, do you recommend an iPad pro instead of Cintiq if i use it with photoshop? i really accustomed to paint only in this software so maybe i dot use procreate
If you need Photoshop, I'd just go with the Cintiq, which is also an amazing art tool!
Logan Cure iPad Pro is good for mock up into photoShop where the software is much more advanced. Can't wait until the processing gets that good! will be great
Adobe is working on a full photoshop for ipad! 💛
What a great, informative, non-frenetic review! Thanks.
ahh i cant wait till i put my hands on an ipad pro ,totally worth the money
Great considerations! I sold my Cintiq 13HD Touch for an iPad Pro cause its so much more inspiring to use and simply make something fun and draw anywhere however you like! And the Pencil is far superior, feels like a real, well-balanced tool to swing around and hold naturally as you would a range of different media. A solid stylus. :)
Show off. Cool video bro.
It would me amazing if Wacom made a peripheral for iPad Pro that gave it hotkeys. lol
Imagine if Wacom, Apple, and Adobe teamed up to make an iPad suitable for professional art...
I-Wei Huang Good point! haha. And yeah I find myself tapping the table to undo across several different types of activities. Pretty funny :P
The pencil comes with a spare nib, and I haven't changed the original one yet.
fun to spin xD thats a plus lol
Thank you for such a comprehensive review. Have you ever used iPad Pro and Pencil for life drawing from model?
No, but I think that would actually work really great for life drawing... however, having a device that can undo and layers may defeat the purpose of life drawing practice....
this feels very biased towards apple.
max dagle Agreed
max dagle normally i would agree. i hate apple products. but we can trust our eyes. what we see here is a very well behaving stylus pen that if you dismiss there is no hover, looks rathen tempting to try, at least.
having used wacom styluses of all kinds for many years i think the reviewer did a good job in describing differences.
racerschin a few weeks ago i got to test the ipad pro and pencil, while the latency was good, the screen was way too smooth. the color also looked quite distorted. and its just a personal opinion but the feel of holding an ipad or having it in my lap is just too awkward. its slippery and unbalanced. a case could fix this but i didnt have one to try. i liked the feel of the pencil but the tip is too hard and round.
max dagle yes nib looks way too hard. screen surface issues are mentioned in the review and comments as well, so there is definetely an issue there! thanks for answering, i ll give ipad pro it a try when i found one.
Yeeahh
BEAUTIFUL WORK AND AMAZING TECHNOLOGY...MORE PICTURES PLEASE :)
Thanks!
welcome!
This is exactly what I was looking for. Great info, well done. Thanks! As a long time Cintiq user, I've been very hesitant to try the iPad Pro and Pencil ... now I think I can safely make a better decision. Cheers!
Clean, intuitive, and sensible review. Thank you!
Very well done! Very informative and gave me the push I needed to invest! I appreciate your time and video! Thanks again for being awesome dude!
Keep these videos going!
Thanks!
+I-Wei Huang
the last words : virus who have to worried about ( pc) my friend dats a little bit bulshit.
this is the video which convinced me to buy the Ipad pro !!! and everything told here is TRUE !! Thank you !! Im very happy with my Ipad!!
rahul dora Awesome! Glad to hear that you are happy with it!
Great review! I liked how you also compared the surface pro 4.
Thanks again.
Try to use Pantstorm Studio for ipad-pro. It`s professional software, like painter.
Will buy. Thank you for getting into the details that artists really look out for.
I've been waiting for your review! Thanks for the detailed look. Great drawings, BTW. :)
Thanks! Sorry it took so long, been busy.
