Making Jam With Rare Tropical Fruits: Sapodilla
Вставка

- Last year I had a lot of fun making mango jam. I though why not see what other tropical fruit makes a good jam. My son had his football team staying on the farm for his birthday weekend and some of the boys wanted to help me out. I had a great time making this jam and now we have a delicious snack to last us months, maybe even till next season.

JD and Yuda - my wife and I stopped by the farm on Sunday to meet Tom and take a tour. Tom sent us home with several varieties of fruit and a jar of sapodilla jam. WOW! Delicious! You guys did a great job - keep it up!!! David & Pam
I hope you enjoy the jam
Looks like a lot of fun. Thanks for sharing, Tom. 🙏😎🏖🏝

You love the way he “puts himself in to the young men”? What the hell are you trying to suggest? He’s not putting himself in to young men. He’s a happily married man!
😂😂😂
Awesome bro 👌👍👍👍👌👌👌👌✌️✌️✌️✌️✌️💯
😋
Love how you've involving and mentoring the youth! Keep up the great work and I'm enjoying your videos as well!
these young men are doing a great job in life. one of them had his first job interview this past Friday.
@@SleepyLizard that’s really cool!
Very nice
Thx
Learned something new again. Will try this someday to come. Don't have a tree yet but i did a few airlayers on a friend tree.Your videos are always fun and something to learn from. Keep up the great work. Blessings.
good luck with the air layers!
Sapodilla is famous in south east asia.
it is so delicious
Any recipes for Goji berries Sleepy Lizard? They’re bitter until the right moment but there’s gotta be a way to make a jar of them sweet.
never heard of them
👍🏾
💪
What's going to happen when these kids go to Wal*Mart, and ask for sapodilla ?
these boys know you get the best tropical fruit at guacfarm dot com
When are these available??❤
December/January
I got a couple of these for the first time a wee while back. It was the smaller variety I got. I didn’t like them. They weren’t sweet and they didn’t taste like brown sugar. They had a kind of unpleasant grittiness or powderiness to em. Given the descriptions i heard people give the taste- being very sweet- I was quite disappointed cuz they weren’t remotely like what people described em. I live in Scotland so we don’t get stuff like that often and when we do it’s often not the best of quality
they were probably picked too early...they are so sweet a lot of people with diabetes have to avoid them.
Pineapple seeds (there's hundreds right underneath the skin) taste fantastic by the way, I just haven't figured out the best method to extract them and then soften them up a bit.
never knew that.
Habanero sapodilla or jalapeno sapodilla try that
I will. I've done habanero with mango jam and it was delicious
@@SleepyLizard yummy
Can you send tree to Romania?
we cannot sorry.
i'm gonna take a break from youtube for a little while
do me a favor before you disappear. go to my contact info and send me an email so we stay in contact. that cool with you?
@@SleepyLizard i will explain why in stream today

What a great way to start the morning!❤ Great video, Tom! Thanks for caring for these young men. You're a great teacher!🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺🌺I would suggest you wipe the rim before putting the lid on for a better seal though.
yeah, I make it a lot cleaner when I'm working inside in the kitchen. I find it difficult to do something and record at the same time, my mind is pulled in a million different directions. 😵💫
My favorite 🥑 farmer
aw shucks, thank you.
Really positive video 🙌🏾one of my favourite UA-camrs
thank you. I only have 3 jars left 😭
It snowed quite a bit. The snow cover is about 4 to 5 inches. My trees are still growing.
And my main avocado tree hasn't wilted, even though I haven't watered it for 8 days. The buds are getting bigger. I think that pruning was the best thing I could've done for my beloved tree. I mean sure, the browning is still continuing, but it's not as bad as before. The worst part is, the cold.
Since the cloud will diminish by the evening and the nights will be clear and calm, the temperatures will probably drop down to 15 degrees, or lower Farenheit.
we are having just a little bit of cold down here too.
Great video! Very informative! Handsome helpers!!
your grandson was not interested in helping 🤣
Why didn't JD get a t-shirt? That's not fair.
Try and tell a teenager what to wear 🤣
Hey sleepy lizard, love your videos! I was curious, have you ever tried Air layering, or Marcotting, your avocado trees? Just curious.
I've done it with loquat and mulberry but never with avocado although that method would work. Thing is you don't get as robust a root system with that method.
@@SleepyLizard thank you for the reply. My follow up question was going to be why you may not recommend it. Im stationed in Maryland now and was stationed in Washington state before trying to grow the Sir Prize variety avocado tree, but had a really bad frost and the tree didnt make it. Is there a variety you would recommend that can be grown in a large pot indoors? I keep getting orders to really cold climates.
Thank you, the kids learned something and we did too...great video, now I want to try this jam ;o)
it came out good. more tart than I expected.
nice!
thx
cheers awesome chef ... much love TommyBoy and family
I pass on your greetings to the family
Congratulations! Just being curious, do you have any plans to grow coconuts palms (Cocos nucifera) as well?
I do not. I planted one but I put it in a bad spot and had to take it out.
Damn i was waiting for this vid
Every time we open a jar it seems to get better with time. It's been about three weeks now.
@@SleepyLizard wow
Today is our last warm day before the winter comes back. Today the temperatures will reach 15 degrees Celsius or 60 degrees Farenheit. Then a thunderstorm will develop, and it's January, T-strom are unheard of in January here. And in 2-3 day, we will have mornings down to 15 degrees F yet again. The snow will be around 2-3 inches in depth.
A few days after I mildly "decapitated" my avocado tree, so to speak, it's doing pretty well, it hasn't wilted yet. The top buds mayyyybe look slightly bigger, but I'm not sure. The browning has almost stopped. Pruning is indeed essential.
I think you guys are also preparing for cold weather. I took a look at the weather forecast. Down to 40 degrees F there.
🥶
In our language kannada we will call that fruit name sapota , South Indian region 👍🏻
do you like it?
Yes
Thanks.
you got it Charles
First dude txtd his mate telling him to phone pretending he’s his mom and that he’s to come home immediately
they'd move in if their moms let them.

Are they some of the kids you coach Tom?
