Okay but where is Steve's "Not Like Us" rendition, we've been waiting
Van's apology rule kinda goated
Sorry yall, I’m not saying Disney doesn’t notice the toxic fans at all, but if the Acolyte had cost less and been viewed more, none of that whining would’ve mattered.
Man I'm 100% with Van. HOTD Season 2 made me even more interested in Westeros, the lore, the books, than I've ever been. Gimme a white wig.
Same here. I just got Fire and Blood on audible and listen to it every chance I get. I'll just continue with all the books.
I, too, hyperfixate and ended up on a GOT/HOTD deep dive 😅
Peter Dinklage (Tyrion’s actor) has a pretty successful career after GOT ended, but he admittedly was one of the standouts from the show. He went on to star in Pixels, Hunger Games, avengers, xmen, transformers, nd pretty much any other big franchise you can think of😭😭😭😭
Warner Bro's needs to give Van 500mil to produce Robert's Rebellion, he sold me on a story I've never cared to see on screen until now. 🔥
Let's F'ing Go!!!!
Thumbail is Charles mid hate rant lol *must click
That’s an easy go-to for clickbait
😂 facts
Ha true
Charles throwing subliminals at Anthony Mackie and Captain America because he's still salty about getting drunk and embarrassing himself at that party. LOL!
Glen Powell shouldn’t be Batman. Glen Powell should be Harvey Dent.
He has the stupid smile already
This would be epix
Nah, this is great casting. But then who for Batman? Honestly, I could see Charles Melton.
18:20 Van unleashes his weakest take yet. my guy has become a bigger apologist for star wars & it's relative creative quality than even Jo and Mal - and thats saying something.
If you really think Disney is paying any mind to review bombing you’re way off the mark. They care about ratings and subscribers. The only heed they pay to that top five percent is related to how much money they spend on subscriptions and licensed purchases. That’s it.
They care about creating new designs you can sell in Walmarts and theme parks. The subscriber money is just gravy.
Have to disagree with Steve on how much ASOIAF material there is. More in f&b before HotD show as they mentioned The Conqueror, and the period after when the show will likely end, there is enough for a compelling movie or short limited series. Blackyfyre rebellions. Children of the forest and age of heroes. Just depends on getting the right people involved
I’m with Van on watching hour long videos on side characters or just side stuff within the lore
This notion that the hyper negative online discourse drives most programming decisions is just not true. It’s mostly viewership data that guides the slate. We don’t see Disney’s stats but the independent analytics showed a grim picture for an expensive live action production.
I see Glen as Hal Green Lantern more than Bruce Batman
The thing on the acolyte that folks need to speak on is: Yes. there are people that are "bad faith" actors that are toxic online. maybe it's 5-10%. but they aren't at fault for no one watching the show. it had the lowest rated finale ever. Roughly 40% of the viewership of Book of Boba Fett. That's why it was cancelled. maybe focus on that.
The Acolyte season 2 cancellation has nothing to do with Viewership or fan response, this was decided before the show even aired. The minute Bob Iger came back and disney decided that they are largely cutting back from Disney+ spending, its over for Acolyte because of how expensive it is.
Van I feel you brother.
The notification about this put a giant smile on my face! Glad to see the Boys back in action!
I love how locked in Van is on lore!!
Welcome to the “dark side” 😂
the video pod gets better and better every week. midnight boys best fandom pod out
To Charles’s point, RDJ literally says from the first movie “I AM Iron Man.” He couldn’t be more synonymous with a character.
The new spoiler intro is sweet, but ngl yall might have to re dub it, having it be Vans voice especially over steve is diabolical 😂
I stopped watching acolyte after episode 3 or 4, I was interested in the show. I just fell off of it. People didn't or stopped watching the show that's why it got canceled. Not because they listened to toxic discourse.
I am here for Van's idea for a Roberts Rebellion show/film. That story is so damn rich! I would love to see it on screen. 6"6 Bobby B in his absolute prime? Young Ned? Say less! The only thing is that history hasnt been 100% fleshed out by GRRM and that could be a problem.
This is one of my favorite episodes! Robert's Rebellion movie would slap ..
Pew pew
Van is 100% right about the ASOIAF world having more stories to tell
Love this content. Keep it up fellas!
35:22 idk what Jomi was TRYING to say but i think Van and I heard something else lol
“Flag” is what Jomi said
Jomi saying “no manches” to Van’s “apology rule” had me 😂😂😂. Chicanismo in effect 🇲🇽
That was a lot of fun guys, thanks 🙂
4:05 Alaya “The Maze Runner” Zenaris
“No one would’ve cared if it came back.” Exactly. Bad show. Bad foundation to build upon.
Exactly. Why dump another $180 million on a poorly written show?
I am using Van's apology rule now and forever!!! jajajajajaj
@56:40-CHUCK!!! Yes!!! My sentiments exactly! Although I did enjoy Deadpool v. Wolverine, I’m a bit weary of the nostalgia factor that is in every Marvel movie. The success of Marvel right now is due to them simply going back and playing on nostalgia.
Why in the blazing blue fuck would they make a whole movie dedicated to red hulk? Like what are we talking about rn? Who was supposed to be the villain for brave new world? Are we forgetting serpent society ARE cap villains?
How y’all sleep on static shock?
Missed you guys
I started watching Game of Thrones because of HOTD and by extention this show. I wish you guys had this show going from the start of GOT because I would love to see the takes you have
I’m like Van where I also watch tons of videos of Game of Thrones lore
What kinda school Steve went to? LOL
Good for you guys being able to sit through the Acolyte
I recommend y’all read Strange Adventures. It’s a comic book story that made me a Mr. Terrific fan
I think it's a positive that Acolyte got dropped. Has any show ever gotten better after such a poorly written first season? I think the action scenes and some of their actors were excellent. But the plot choices were so bad imo. Putting that season 2 money behind a new SW show and getting better writers is a smarter plan I think.
Star Trek TNG. Season 1 is BAD.
@@ThePravon Sorry I've never watched TNG. But I'll take your word for it man. Maybe some shows can come back. But with the level of writing that we are seeing in some of these Disney SW shows (Obi-Wan, Ashoka, Bobba Fett), I don't think they have the personnel to fix the Acolyte. In my opinion.
The Lakers need a big man
Bro, I ain't paying for D+ and watching everything they put out to Support The Brand. I don't owe Disney my money and time. Put out something good and I'll watch it. Not even that, show me you have ideas that you can carry fwd.
Star Wars output is mostly trash that contradicts previous output and then gets cancelled for something that will contradict it. Even their one hit, Mando, ends up contradicting itself with the third season There's just no incentive to invest in it
(Andor excepted)
I have kids and they like other stuff like Gravity Falls which is actually really good. Also Hulu has good shows and old movies, and with La Liga and Bundesliga on espn, the bundle just is most cost effective. I do understand your frustrations
Who is Skeleton crew for???? 8 and 9 yr olds??? I saw that trailer and was like NOPE
10-12 or so was the original target audience for the trilogy. So that is always something I consider with SW. Andor and Rogue One were of course different
@LaCheeserie my son is 12, and also saw that trailer. he had less then zero interest in it. 12 yr Olds in 2024 aren't watching this, it a tad different then mid 1970s
Was not expecting this. Nice treat
I will say as much as Charles says he wants marvel to get away from the typical quip and get something different and new. Go look at Eternals. That is probably the biggest risk and divergence from the Marvel formula with a non conventional director. Everyone hated it. Black Panther II was pretty similar. But then Disney sees No way home and Deadpool and Wolverine are hits by following the formula. Why on earth would they change when audiences show they don’t want that?
Van has to stop introducing Charles to famous people.
I need ya'll to start watching and talking about FOUNDATION!
Is this only up on UA-cam? I don't see the podcast up on Spotify
Update: The podcast has come out as well
LOL. Never been this early.
Clapping my flag to this episode!
The guys talking about "only 5% being negative or bad-faith actors" while that tv show is the least watched tv show in Star Wars/Disney+ history is peak fanboyism.
Finally they’re back
Darker darker darker Batman? You literally just described Lego Batman.
Finn is 5’11, but I get what Jomi is saying, need a tall actor for Bruce to make it work
THE RETURN
"The Authority" trailer may be the worst I've ever seen. Van is excited, but all I saw was an old man take a bus trip and some barely readable motion text onscreen.
I've never been into Star Wars never cared for it because it felt like a boys club. The Acolyte was the first show I was even remotely interested in. To preface I have not watched a single piece of Star wars content until The Acolyte. A lot of that was because of the diversity of the show and seeing actors that I know, loved, and respected. I loved it; it made me want to get into Star Wars get into the lore understand why it was such a hit. I even started watching the older movies. Then I see the cancellation of the show and all that interest and wonder immediately dies because I feel like 'great this was never meant for me and people who look like me' and that sucks to have all the hate that was spewed to those actors and creators be validated that we don't belong . I got so many of my girl friends to watch this show with me. I think they were capturing a whole new audience that they haven't tapped into yet and it sucks to consistently be disrespected and reminded that you don't matter. But I hear disney and lucasfilm loud and clear I wont touch star wars again .
11:50 Lando is not moving forward as TV or movie
Why can’t they rank the X-men movies? I didn’t get the joke
They say it's because it would get people angry but I don't think that's actually true. Personally I think X1 and First Class are the best. Then Days of future past and X2. The others I don't care about, lol
Acolyte was horrible, and the majority let that be known.
Which part was horrible for you? For me it was yet another OP Jedi/sith that don't even have to train to be good with the force.
@TReelio in what part of thr show was It suggested that the characters didn't train?
Yeah, that's what y'all limit yourselves to covering, but, c'mon, instead of being another one of 127 UA-cam channels talking about Romulus, how about you guys covering Supercell?
20:10 the NEW creators aren't dedicated to tell a good story, don't conflate George Lucas' story with Disney's new "please everyone" bullsh*t
the head of Lucasfilm just came out and said she wants to resign, but she wants a successful project before she leaves
Who is that? Where did she say it? Would love to read that press release
Wait…Charles didn’t like X Men 97!?!
What tf DID he like???
Yo your mans in the cowboy hat has some weird takes on some of these shows 🤔🤦🏽♂️
28:18 besides the title…I’d watch that😂😂
Blade 1 and 2 are very MCUish I didn’t realize it until I rewatched them recently. Blade 2 especially has a strong MCU tone even with the R rating.
Andor was loved but a lot of people didn’t watch it.
Chocolate boy is tough😂
