That entire 'family' in Alaska should have been banned from owning or operating any boats in the future. They do not "own" any water and sure as h-ll don't have the right to set up blockades.
I agree. As someone that comes from a "third generation" fishing family they should've known that what they did was not only wrong, but was also asking for something like that to happen due to them not having the right to make a blockade in the first place.
They're lucky that he/she (I didn't hear the gender of the deckhand) didn't get killed which could've happened considering he/she got hit on the head by the exhaust pipe that fell.
Up in Alaska, im surprised the family didn't get completely unloaded on after damn near killing the guy on center deck and destroying a boat, and then letting a woman yell, "Get out of here"
These Familys are like Gangs or Mafia, of course they not shoot you but they claim what they think is ours. Im sure the got ways to get situations like this out of the Way, surly that was'nt the first time that happend.
They can't. It's just like gangs protecting their turf (which isn't theirs to begin with). Same as local surfers on any beach anywhere and how they'll harass outsiders.
"It's hard to determine who is at fault" What about the 2-3 boats bullying the one boat to leave their salmon fishing spot. Boat literally came in through the side. What kind of "blockade" is that?
I love hearing "no one was hurt." We wil always have accidents, but better building and better training goes a long way towards mitigating loss, human and cargo.
The Alaska family should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and then never be allowed to own a boat again. I hope the guy on the middle deck that got flattened sued the hell out of them.
How is it that I live in NJ my whole life a half hour away from Hoboken and never heard anything about this in my local news but somehow a UA-camr knew before me?!?!?!😅
Talk about "asleep at the wheel", well your local Hoboken news outlets, certainly are that; they're worthless! What things in the world, DO they consider then, WORTH their coverage??
With regard to the Kydon, last video, I do not think that accident was caused by an 'aggressive current'. Look at the considerable speed the ship (not 'boat') lurks forward and the black smoke coming from the smoke stacks. That indicates to me that for some reason the ship engine's telegraph was accidentally set in 'full ahead'.
@@ffemtx4 Nowadays "ship" refers to big vessels and "boat" refers to smaller vessels. Because an aircraft carrier is not a boat even though it is flat bottomed, it is a ship. And a submarine ironically enough is referred to as a boat despite being a tube lol
That ferry should have been in full-reverse to slow down. It wasn't. No reverse bow wave at all showing reverse thrust. Mis-judgement of speed? I think not.
The container ship on 3:42… those can not make sharp steering angles. Has to do with stability. That why it needs tugboats. Tug boats have to manoeuvre it in its place. This probably has to do with wind or the engine not stopping.

The Houston port one was ridiculous. The captain needed to go to reverse and crank the wheel left well before getting there. It is a far safer maneuver than attempting to make the turn away from the collision. It’s also logic 101. Don’t take an action that you know will close the distance. I’m guessing at a minimum a suspended license for that captain.
8:40 - The Genesis River "couldn't get out of the way in time"? How about it turned left instead of right and straight into the barge? You can very clearly see the change of aspect ratio of the vessel as it turns in the video.
Genesis river started to lose control, and since they are in a narrow channel, genesis river told the tow to meet him on 2 (or stbd to stbd), so the tow was trying to cross the channel to avoid a collision. The genesis river ended up bouncing off the bank and right in to the tow.
It would be interesting, "Underworld", if you found (a) clip(s), of (a) collision(s) far out in the MIDDLE of oceans, around standard shipping lanes. Extremely unlikely, but the closest example that I can think of, happened in 1956, between "Stockholm" and "Andrea Doria".
Buda Bridge collision : December 30th 2022 “It took several years but the Buda Bridge appears to have reopened in May of 2024” How do you define ‘several years’ in order equate less than a year and a half to ‘several years’? Do you work in dog years?
Looks like a lot of places need tugboats, tugboats can help ships to move in tight areas and or calmly maneuver ships and barges in busy traffic. Maybe some of those accidents could have been avoided.
WTF? At 12:38, the Cornuncopia Destiny has two sets of windows, and in the accident video (13:00) it has three. Was it heavily modified, or just sitting extremely low in the first pic?
Every one of these incompetent ship captains should lose their license and be banned from the industry. These accidents are no small matter. I don't care how well trained and credentialed you are. If you're slacking off or allowing yourself to be distracted then mistakes are going to happen.

I agree. As someone that comes from a "third generation" fishing family they should've known that what they did was not only wrong, but was also asking for something like that to happen due to them not having the right to make a blockade in the first place.
They are absolutely disgusting honestly. That was down right malicious period.

They can't. It's just like gangs protecting their turf (which isn't theirs to begin with). Same as local surfers on any beach anywhere and how they'll harass outsiders.
Buncha thugs.
Easily. By paying the state for the fishing rights in that area.
Narcissism and entitlement.
They don’t. They think they do because of greed.
Amazing how the captains of these various vessels kept their captain's papers.
Holy cow, the Skånevik skipper really did actually fall asleep!
I thought it was just hyperbole, but the guy actually dosed off. Incredible

An aggressive current? I’ll write that one down in my invisible notebook.
With invisible ink?
It goes with "Vicious weather."

ain't right let me also write that down on my invisible notebook as well
