  • HUGE thanks to the guys at Prevelo- I am really excited that my daughter gets to ride such a nice bike! She’s on the Zulu Two, and here’s an affiliate link to that bike’s page: bit.ly/PreveloJKW
Check out the Giro Tremor kids helmet (with MIPS) here: bit.ly/GiroKidsHelmetJKW
The Woom 2 (affiliate link bit.ly/WoomBikes2JKW) was a fantastic bike, super light at around 12 pounds and with a chain driven drivetrain. The Woom 2 is a 14” wheeled bike, which was great for ages 2.5-3.5. I did swap on some knobbier, kevlar bead (also called folding) tires, as we ride offroad daily.
The Woom 1 was an AWESOME first bike, and we’d highly recommend it! I also swapped on some knobby, kevlar bead tires to this bike as well. Here’s a link to the Woom 1 page: bit.ly/Woom1BikeJKW.
Big shout to my sponsors! Thanks to Jenson USA, PNW Components, Industry Nine, and Shimano- and any purchases from the below links to Jenson USA will help support my channel:

ounce they grow past the limits of there current ride. When she got her first hydro breaks, the rides instantly got faster. She was breaking later, bleeding off less speed, and off the breaks sooner. Why? it was easier to stop so she could carry more speed. plus everything he says about the breaks.
Right now i just broke the bank and order a soft tail for her. she was approaching adult speed on 24" with 50 MM of spring travel. she took her bike, which is good solid kids MTB to the limits. it is an XC bike as more are, and it held up very well in the bike park.
as for gearing, not only tire size but age. Before the age of 8 they do not really get it. at 9 mine start to work through the gears. she still sometime forgets to change them but she understands how they feel when she rides.
rewards, just hugs for mine. and yes lots of snacks. and always ride near a washroom

My Parents graduate with good Degrees but the wage from my country was so low that they got me my first bike at 12 they save for years to buy me a mountain bike and i was super stoke remembering that memory. Fast Forward im now 30 and we all moved here in West, Even my Dad owns a Trek Slash, he is almost 60but still manages to do whips and drops. LOL

Prevelos look sick! My son started at 2 on a Strider and Hotrock. When he turned 3 I excitedly bought him a 16” Spawn Yoji but turns out he didn’t fit it (inseam too short) since he’s a mini! So in the interim I found a 14” Spawn Furi - he freaking loves the bike. He was a demon on his strider and I love how he transferred that to the pedal bike. Also, when he started to learn how to pedal he forgot how to steer, when he started to brake he forgot how to pedal. Finally we had all those together and he couldn’t start himself. But after a month or two of focusing on that, he now starts himself and rips around like a maniac! Amazing to see the progression and happy to see you and Magdalena going thru the same stuff. And yea - Toweee is the beees kneees!!!
The Spawns def have a steeper HTA (I’d agree not ideal in paper) but I will say my son has done some trail riding (and bumps & roots too) with no real issues. They’ve got more of a dirt jump/bmx vibe. I’ll be curious to see how he does when we develop his trail riding, how confident he is on the Yoji. So far so good.

My first legit MTB was a 1997 Mongoose Sycamore SX. It was way too big at the time, but I eventually grew into it and loved it for many, many years. I just bought the Prevelo for my daughter who recently turned 4. She went from a Walmart balance bike, to a cheap Amazon bike (albeit, no training wheels, a legit freehub, and no coaster brake). So, so stoked to see where she takes this thing!

That's awesome! I just got a 24" GT for my daughter to move up to. Had pretty decent specs except for the cheezy fork that my 190lbs wouldn't even sag. I picked an old 26" dual air Rockshox SID, learned how to service it and swapped it out Already can tell its going to me a game changer. Way lighter too.

Great video. My daughter is riding since she was 3. Now after a couple of years on a 12, 16, 20" bike we moved to a 24" and decided to go with the Orbea Laufey Jr. 24 H20. Great bike and good geo. So I choose the bike and she chose the color - black. Combined with the dyedbro protection kit - pink zebra - she really loves her bike. Last year we were on the 20" she made around 600km, this year we are currently on 450 km. The kiddo is really bike crazy and we do a lot of family bike trips. Love your content (bicycles and motorbikes) and keep up the good work.

My 3yo daughter was on a Zulu one this past year (she's 4 now and still on it). It was great for her, but the weight was a big step up from her balance bike. Between the extra mass and the stability of the trail on the Prevelo, she would get going way way faster. There was a scary window in there before she started getting a hang of the brakes and kept trying to slide her feet to stop a bigger bike at higher speeds. It all worked out and she rips on her Zulu One now, but be ready for that transition.

Awesome vid! I have a 3.5 yo who is ripping with his 12" balance bike. He's getting a little too fast for it and he needs brakes now. I'm debating on whether I should get him a 14" balance bike (either the Woom Plus or Little Big Bike) or a pedal bike. He loves his balance bike and I'm not sure he's ready to pedal.

I have bounced back and forth between woom and prevelo. Woom is a little lighter and when they are small (at least for my kid that made a bigger difference). Now they he is 5 and out growing his woom I'll probably go back to prevelo for his next bike.

Logan was about 5 I think. Good old Jack's had a great trade it policy for upgrading as he grew. Now that he's 16 on Friday and standing at 6'1" he's on my older Specialized Enduro, however, XBOX typically wins out anymore ;) . I still drag him out with dad though, he doesn't get to stand me up. :) Like always, great video Jeff! Cheers!

I wanted a Zulu Two for my daughter, but who knows when it will be in stock. The Zulu Two Heir was of course in stock so that’s what she got yesterday. I was a little disappointed in the fork. If I put just enough air for it to hold its height, she can’t move it? Maybe it has to loosen up? Other than that, it’s pretty awesome.

Great video Jeff. My 3YO sons on a Commencal Ramones 14" and it's a sweet bike. The geo is dialed, good brakes and tires, but it's incredibly heavy for him. We're debating if we go Ramones for the 16" or look for another lighter option which would help him pedal longer uphill. Do you know the weight of your Prevelo or could you throw it on the scale? Thanks!

    • @JeffKendallWeed
      @JeffKendallWeed  2 роки тому +1

Oh man, the Commencal bikes are nice but they have a 71 degree head angle. Check around for something slacker. I know Prevelo has a back order queue, but other brands to check are Early Rider and TrailCraft. At 20" wheels there are a lot more options! I think our Prevelo weighs about 15lbs. It's not heavy, but it's more than the Woom 2.

Could not find a 16" Zulu or Commencal in stock and 20" fat tire MTBs were too big for my 4yo (we approach 5 as I write this, we had the bike since last spring), while I wanted to get him out of the coaster-rear 14" Segway he was riding since his 3rd Bday...Ended up compromising for a 20" Guardian Ethos "Small" frame: same standover as most 16", but with much longer wheelbase and ofc 20" roll-over and stability. HTA is super agressive/slack: not published, buy

Awe shucks! When my daughter is scared I've tried my best to show her less scary ways of doing things- like if she is scared on a steep hill, I'll walk her down half way. Then she usually sees that half way down isn't as scary, and she'll ride it. Next time, she'll try from slightly higher, etc etc. The other things that have helped are riding with friends and having her follow me, rather than making her lead all the time. Good luck Ahmad!

@@JeffKendallWeed great point about who is leading. When my son was 4, I couldn’t get him to ride the trails unless I was leading and my spouse was in back. Being so small and unfamiliar with the surroundings and not having experience reading trails, it’s a tall order for a little kid.
