I truly didn’t think there was an adult in America who had never heard Whitney’s music. Welcome aboard!
Same
There is a implicit contract between reactors and the audience. The reactors pretend to have never heard anything and we pretend to believe them. As long as the videos are informative and/or entertaining, I don’t think it really matters.
Ditto!!
Omg yes! I actually said out loud to myself, “omigod wait till he discovers Michael Jackson” 😂
@@thundernels Exactly. I've been willing to suspend my disbelief for most of Salvo's videos, but he's honestly gone too far with this one. He has CLEARLY heard this song before, because, frankly, EVERYONE over 30 has. His video adds nothing to what we already know, so the unspoken contract is broken. Can't even pretend to be emotional. Poor effort.
Dolly said Whitneys performance made her a fortune
A lot of which she used to help the black community in Atlanta
@@toriboy25 Not in Atlanta, in Nashville, TN. She donated all of the royalties she earned from the use of this song.
@@lamusiclover2264 Thanks for the carlification!
Dolly shares her fortune in so many ways.
Dolly wrote the song.
Dolly said on Howard Stern’s show that she was driving, the first time she heard Whitney’s version. Dolly said she had to pull over to avoid wrecking just to listen. She gave high praises. 💜 Dolly is SO real. RIP Whitney
Listening to Kevin Costner give the eulogy at her funeral was heartbreaking. Such an amazing talent gone way too soon.
I cry just thinking about it 😢
Her funeral was one of the most sad things.... next to MJ's. Ugh, hate that we lost so many amazing people. LJ
Coke kills!
he still is in love with her. he never stopped. she was his soulmate.
@@mikedineen7857 Clive did it after she wanted to leave him and his label
Whitney was absolutely stratospheric. One of a kind. She will never be forgotten.
Agree!
Absolutely - there will never be another Whitney.
Great way to describe her
I miss her so much! I have every CD! What a phenomenal gift from God! Her music will live on forever! ❤RIP queen! 😎
No we are stunned that there is someone alive who has never heard of her
Where have you been?
I stopped my other video just to watch this. How on earth can anyone who speaks English not know OR hear Whitney Houston? Now, I’ve seen everything.
I stopped my other video just to watch this. How on earth can anyone who speaks English not know OR hear Whitney Houston? Now, I’ve seen everything.
I'm torn between being flabbergasted someone hasn't heard of Houston's music, and being insanely jealous that someone out there gets to experience it for the first time!
This right here. It always amazes me that people have never heard her and brings me such joy when they experience her for the first time.
@@TiffaneyWatts I'm also very pleased to see on his channel he went and checked out the Dolly Parton version too. Both fantastic versions done in different approaches
Whitney will go down in history as one of the greatest vocalists of all time.
THE greatest.
I put her in my top 3 with Gladys Knight and Mariah Carey. I can’t order them though. Before anyone bites my head off, we all have different opinions and this is mine.
Gone way too soon.
no the greatest...
The greatest
Watch her perform the Star Spangled Banner at the 1991 Super Bowl You will be blown away!
Whitney and Chris Stapleton, the two best renditions of our national anthem hands down!
The absolute gold standard of SSB performances of all time
I was going to suggest this. Yes the GOLD standard. No one has come close! It sold millions of copies!!!
I don't remember who played that year but I do remember that performance.
Whitney was the only person who made SSB hit the top billboard charts….twice.
The entire Bodyguard soundtrack is a must reaction! Dear God This Woman's voice...
The Bodyguard is Absolutely a fantastic soundtrack.
Whitney's voice gives me the shivers. No one could top her in her prime. 💗
You should listen to her sing the anthem it was awesome
Listen to Whitney's live Grammy performance of "One Moment in Time." She could captivate an audience with just her voice
I came here to say this. It showed every element of what made her special.
Agreed its amazing
I read an interview with Dolly Parton where she told the story of licensing the rights to this song for the movie The Bodyguard. They contacted her early on in the filming process because they knew they wanted to use the song, but Whitney didn't record it for months, and it wasn't released until the movie was out, and by then, Dolly had forgotten all about it. Dolly was driving home from a meeting and the song came on the radio, and she had to pull over to listen to it, because it brought her to tears.
The movie is “The Bodyguard”
She had the best voice. Full, strong, clear, pure, never screechy or thin.
Whitney was the niece of Dionne Warwick, one of the great voices of '60s Pop music.
Whitney was her cousin. Dionne:s mom and Whitney's mom Ciissy were sisters
Yes they were cousins. Dionne has that power house quality as well. She was part of We Are the World that you reacted to and you got to experience a piece of that. Of course she has many others to listen to as well!
She sounds a bit like Dionne...she had pipes. And just beautiful too..
Now I know ❤
her mom cissy sang with elvis i think
Whitney Houston was a rare talent, and everything she did was magic. I love both Whitney and Dolly on this song. We don't have to pick one over the other, so I won't.
Dolly said that this was no longer "her" song, Whitney owns it now
Someone once said that when Dolly sings this song it's like she's singing just for you, but when Whitney sings it's like she's singing to the entire world.
Dolly was a genius at writing and storytelling. Dolly is well loved. Whitney was magical and could floor you with every song.
Her voice fills me with such intense joy…and then such intense sadness. ❤😢
yes...she deserved a better ending.
My 3 girls used to dance around the living room when her song “I Wanna Dance With Somebody” came on VH1 💔🎶 She was amazing 😪 RIP
Exactly this
No matter how many times I listen to her sing this song, I always get goosebumps. She was simply blessed with an amazing gift. 👏 RIP beautiful 😇
Me too
That is the magic that Whitney has. She will always be missed and loved.
Whitney's performance of the national anthem at Super Bowl XXV is a must. It is widely considered the finest rendition of the Star Spangled Banner, to date.
This was a cultural landmark!
Beautiful version of a beautiful song. I always preferred “I Have Nothing, also from The Bodyguard soundtrack. Another stellar vocal from Whitney.
This version has the power to sing to a crowd, whilst the original version by the author herself: Dolly Parton has the personal softer touch!
Both were number 1 [Dolly's twice] big sellers.
I'd love to see you explore more of Whitney Houston's catalog. Thank you for this!
Way to go, Salvo! You can't compare apples and oranges. Dolly's original version was wonderful and in her wheelhouse and Whitney's was the same. Totally different vibes and feelings. Both are outstanding!!
Dolly was approached by Elvis’ management and told her that he wanted to cover the song. She was so thrilled! But then she was told that he wanted to buy the rights. She refused to sell. He never covered it.
Which just shows how smart she was as a young musician. This made her a fortune which she shared.
That was probably Parker sticking his nose in.
@@musik102 the colonel, he was a scumbag. I read that at Elvis’s memorial Pricilla made a comment about how she was surprised the colonel didn’t charge admission.
It's fun to hear Dolly P talk about hearing Whitney's cover of this song for the first time. She was driving when it came on the radio and she had to pull over and listen in tears at how beautiful it is.
Yes, I heard too👍🏿
Such an amazing talent gone too soon.
I can't believe anyone who is an adult has never heard of Whitney Houston.
It doesn't matter if you are a whitney fan or not. Her voice is magical. Even if you don't like her music you have to admit that she has one of the greatest voices of all time.
Whitney didn't have a talent rather she was a talent herself❤
Quite brilliant.. still love Dolly, but a completely different take. Dolly loved it....she Says all the way to the bank...
Whitney is the greatest vocalist to ever have vocalled. lol. HOW have you never heard her? She's otherworldly. Never to be equalled or replicated.
Yes, her air control is insane, like she had an extra lung or two lol!
Different style of course, but air control like Karen Carpenter's, both exhibited nearly non-human abilities in that area.
These smooth crescendo runs, each time culminating in elastic Vibratos are brilliant. And towards the end she rejoices as if she's treading water and only gradually let's herself slide down again. Great romance and simply "The Voice". ♥️♥️♥️♥️
His face and head moves like he knows what Whitney is going to sing next, the ups and downs, he definitely heard of Whitney before.
Exactly. I'm not convinced, cos if you live in a first world country, you've heard this song before.
now you know ❤
I was prepared to not believe this was your first time hearing Whitney sing this song as it is so iconic.......your reaction was so real.....nice to know people can still admire her talent.
The Body Guard is one of my top 5 favorite movies of ALL TIME!
"First time hearing" what!!! this song? you mean one of the most iconic and infamous songs of all time? this song? no way.
It blows my mind the You have NEVER seen or heard of Whitney Houston, she's a one name wonder. If anyone says the name Whitney she's the first to pop into your mind. I couldn't wait the see the reaction after experiencing her incredible GIFT... RIP WH..
The 'movie' is The Bodyguard and the soundtrack is the 2nd biggest selling album of ALL TIME , think about that .
She sang that song sitting down. That was a God-given talent. Gone too soon.
It's such a beautiful song. It nearly brings me to tears knowing the person behind the voice was struggling in life. 😢
Some other fun facts - Whitneys version of this is the biggest selling single by a woman of all time and the album it came from, The Bodyguard Soundtrack is the biggest selling album by a woman ever.
I almost cried the first time I heard this song. I had always heard about Whitney, but when I finally heard her music, I got so emotional! I did not expect it.
You gotta do more Whitney, my favorite femelle singer of all time
Whitney was taken far to soon from us. There will never be another Whitney Houston❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Much😢 love to Whitney Houston her voice will captivate audiences for future generations Kevin Costner gave her a beautiful eulogy ❤
I served in Desert Shield/Storm when Whitney Sang the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 1991 it was aired overseas it was a HUGE HIT
I was there as well
It’s wonderful seeing your reaction, not having heard Whitney sing before! There may never be another as good as she was. Gone too soon, beautiful lady.
The range of her clear and beautiful voice. This always gave me chills.
She was such an incredible artist! She was so talented.
Man, Whitney's voice still makes me cry every time like it's my first time hearing it. Whew!
She was trained, like most great RnB singers, in Baptist church singing gospel music. I love the fullness and tone this training usually produces. Rest peacefully, Whitney
ONE OF THE ICONIC VOICES OF OUR TIME! A TRAGIC LOSS TO HUMANITY.
My mom said I was obsessed with this song as a baby. My mom would clean the house and listen to VH1 and MTV and whenever it came on, she said I'd come running in the room out of nowhere to listen to it.
This song was top of the charts for WEEKS
It’s a classic
It was just everywhere- you couldn't get away from it, even if you wanted to!
The bodyguard is such a iconic movie and nobody sings this song better then Whitney. The movie has a good soundtrack too.
Oh my. What a treat to see a reaction from someone who has never experienced Whitney. You must give a listen to her perform The Star Spangled Banner and One Moment In Time, a live grammy performance. You will love these two live performances. She is the GOAT.
The Bodyguard soundtrack is amazing!
"The Bodyguard" should be on your list of movies for your movie channel. Starring Whitney Houston, Kevin Costner and others. The movie soundtrack is the best selling soundtrack of all time and the best selling album by a woman in history. (Ref: Wikipedia) So sad, another great singer that left us too soon.
This video is probably the BEST showcase of just WHY she was called 'The Voice." Her range was so beautiful. I love how you check our their wikipedia beforehand too, that's a nice bit of respect and taking the extra step to learn about an artist. Very cool channel :)
Listen to her live, early Whitney sounded as good, if not better, at her live concerts, or even in an interview, still slayed
You need to react to her singing live!
David Foster, the producer of this song, said when he produced Celine Dion he would tell her how to do the song and she would execute it perfectly but when it came to Whitney he would tell her his ideas and she would say "Okay but how about we try it this way?" and most of the time her take was better.
I do wonder if she would have won more Grammy's if the rules weren't different back then
You have hit a "gold mind" in the music industry. I am shocked you have never heard Whitney.
I'd give anything to listen to this song for the first time again.
Listen to Whitney Houston singing the Star-Spangled Banner at the 1991 Super Bowl best Verison ever.
It's a movie The Bodyguard from 1992 with Kevin Costner. She is playing a pop superstar and he plays her bodyguard. And that song is one from the soundtrack.
Ofcourse Dolly Partons song was fabulous & she also wrote it, which was incredible. All the same I thought Whitney's voice & seeing her sing the song was truly unbelievable. They were both incredible in their own right.
My first exposure to Whitney was as a teenager when she was a model for "Seventeen" magazine. But jaw dropped when I saw her first music video to be played on MTV. She was a cutie pie on the magazine that became gorgeous with the voice to match. 1986 "Saving All My Love"
Her death was such a tragedy. Then, for her daughter to die in the same manner was insane. Whitney was a powerhouse. Her voice is still unmatched.❤❤
Yes. The movie 🎬 The Body Guard. Epic. Kevin Costner really fought for her to be in the picture
The movie is:The Bodyguard . Great soundtrack!!
Imagine listening to this song at a funeral. I attended a funeral where the person knew they were dying and planned their own funeral...and wanted this song played during the service...tough one to get through.
She was called The Voice for a reason. You really need to watch her 1994 AMAs performance. Flat foot singing for 10 straight minutes and one of the best live performances of all time.
the most awesome singer of all time.great reaction
The movie is The Bodyguard with Kevin Costner. Whitney's voice is incredibly beautiful, powerful and emotional.
❤She really did have the most gorgeous voice. It was fun to watch someone hearing her for the first time......especially this song. She has the best version of The Star Spangled Banner 🇺🇲that you have ever heard.
Immaculate pitch. So passionate.
And, yes, see THE BODYGUARD tonight.
New subscriber here. When they played this as the exit song during her funeral, anyone watching lost it. No one was, is, or ever will be, like her. I still miss her.
The Bodyguard
How have you not heard Whitney before? I’m mindblown. You’ll love her song I Have Nothing. It’s from the same album/soundtrack.
It's a tough call, but I think that one is my favorite of hers, period.
You should definitely do a deep dive into more Whitney Houston.....too many favorites to list. Her voice is incredible. Both live performances and studio recordings.....you'll be blown away
Dolly Parton sang the song in a movie also The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
I came here to say that, too.
Whitney was an amazing live performer. Check out:
1. One Moment in Time live
2. All the Man I need Live 1991 military special
3. Super Bowl National Anthem
Gotta check out Whitney's national anthem performance now. It's considered the best ever delivered by most for a reason.
I still can’t believe that she’s not with us anymore. Heartbroken, greatest singer of all time.
R.I.P. Whitney, you took that song and made it your own, 🌹🌹🙏🙏
You need to look up and listen to her singing the National Anthem. It will blow you away.
I heard this song on the radio when I was 12 years old. It was a strong emotional impact for a boy passionate about music. To this day, this song moves me. I'm an unconditional fan of hers. RIP Whitney. IWALY! ♥
Whitney Houston was the mfking truth!!! A legend and gift from God
Bodyguard with her & Kevin Costner is a phenomenal movie!!! 🎶🥰🥰
Whitney is perhaps the greatest female vocalist ever, she was born with perfect pitch and was an amazing actor as well. Kevin Costner refused to star in the movie "The Bodyguard" unless she co-starred with him. She had NEVER acted before, and she was amazing !! Her Aunt is Dionne Warwick, who is also a great singer. Personally, I think one of her greatest performances was The Star Spangled Banner, at the Super Bowl way back in 1991 ( I believe ) Just watch that performance, TRUST ME !!!! She sings SO effortlessly , and you can tell she is just having fun and just singing.
Did you shed a tear I thought I saw a tear 😂 she was amazing
If you can listen to this and not get goosebumps...you must be dead..Such a beautiful talented lady..Tragic ending..Addiction SUCKS
I truly didn't think it was possible to get to your age without EVER hearing that song (even if you actively tried to avoid it lol) or Whitney Houston at all unless you were a recent arrival from another planet and/or universe lol. Welcome to "The Voice!" You're going to lose it completely when you get to her rendition of the National Anthem at the Super Bowl in 1991.
Run To You is my favorite Whitney track, hopefully you'll react to that one too at some pont ☺
